I did this job, including the thermostat, yesterday for the first time in 5 hrs. I did not use a c-clamp when putting the alternator back on the first time and that cost me 30min of frustration trying to line up the holes. Using the c-clamp trick it took 5min. Great videos thanks.
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm a 20 year old college student and your videos helped me save a ton of money. I've never been a car guy, but I knew I didn't want to get an overpriced fix for my car when the water pump blew. Thanks to your easy-to-follow videos, I was able to replace my belt and water pump within a couple days. Thank you for making these videos!
Thanks for the video. I just did this yesterday with the help of your videos. The most challenging parts were removing the two bolts on the water pump that are not easily visible and putting that alternator back. Cheers!
So this is actually really hard. The last bolt is just about impossible to reach. Jacking the car and removing the wheel pulling back the wheel well cover helps but still hard. Need the small torque wrench also as the common large version wont fit and wont adjust down lown enough for the 96 and 80 inch pound specs. The new water pumps will need different length 10mm bolts that are not included will have to buy a kit maybe even use washers. The car this guy is working on has way more room than my 06 corolla so expect lots of knuckle scraping and cussing. You can also remove the motor mount, of course support the motor with a jack and a 2×4 then jack up the motor about 1 to 2 inches only, that will make getting that last pump bolt off and everything back on easier.
Crap i came here because my 06 needs a new pump and was told "its a pain in the ass" and i cant find anyone to do it regardless that i have the money.... bummer got this car becsuse i was told ots easy and cheap to fix
powered ratchet vrooom vrooom 2 seconds each bolt. Then torque to specs . However. try to not a powered tool with flat Gaskets that have holes for bolts in them. It will twist them and teat them up.
NutzAboutBolts, my 1997 Corolla 4A-FE has a small diameter O-Ring (6:36) in the back of the Water Pump. I see you didn't use Ultra Cooper Silicone on the O-Ring. Is it good to use it or not? It's not easy to install the Water Pump on the 1997.
Thank you for the help, side note doe has anyone said you would like Lex Fridman? Or are you Lex fridman lmaooooo. Regardless nice video, good job and thanks again
That’s why I don’t buy a after market water pump. I go directly to the Toyota dealer ship and pay the premium price for original equipment parts and no problems
I just received the new pump for my 2005 Corolla and all the flanges are the same height, just like you said. But it didn't come with new bolts and when I called the dealer they never heard of this and they don't sell the bolts. I'm confused. What happens if you use the existing longer bolts with the shorter flange? Does it bottom out before it gets tight?
not needed, you will create more problems with rtv since there already is a gasket. You can use a little dab to prevent it from falling off of the water pump, but don't over due it or else it'll create a gap between the matting surface and cause a leak.
I have a 2001 Corolla with 30k miles. Is the water pump something I should still consider replacing preventative just due to age vs miles? Was owned by a elderly person so miles stayed low.
I would since the gasket is made of rubber and could deteriorate anytime now. But if you want to take the risk, you can wait for the coolant to leak by the water pump.
Where did you get the shorter bolts for the new water pump? I know it is a 10mm bolt but do you happen to remember the length or the part # for the bolts? Great video by the way. Very informative.
I ended up returning O'Reilly pump because the O-ring gasket didn't fit, even after trying another gasket from fel-pro, I ended up buying the Toyota pump and no the dealer did NOT have any replacement bolts and the new Toyota pump also had all the flanges the same height --I used some bolts and washers I bought at O'Reilly in a metric nut, bolt and washer kit. Used 4 6mm washers on each of the shorter bolts and I had to replace 1 of the long bolts that rolled down the driveway. What I should have done is use the aftermarket pump and buy an o'ring gasket from the dealer
@@NutzAboutBolts ...Mine does not come with them. Just bought it from PartSource. Toyota wants $264 for the water pump. PartSource wants $80. No bolts. shit.
NutzAboutBolts ...I don’t have another car to take the old bolt down to Home Depot for shorter one. I wonder if is ok to shorten the old bolt by cutting it

Not trying to sell tools but I’m sold on the Milwaukee battery ratchet for these jobs, if you’re do very much it pays.
Great video. Straight forward. Looks like an easy job. Thanks.
How long is the new bolts approximately? About an inch?

good work.
Did the new updated pump come with new hardware or did you guys find that out the hard way?
Thank you for the video. I appreciate it very much, and you got a new subscriber. Thanks again.
Would you please post the part number for BOTH the new water pump and the old water pump. I want to make sure I get the updated version. Thanks!
Can’t click on the links to the left side of the screen so do I need to look for them after I subscribe ?
Thanks best explanation keep going !!!
The links were perfect, thank you very much for the help
Glad we could help :)

I want to see oil seal and ball bearing change video.
Will a 2007 Corolla already have the redesigned water pump? Trying to decide if I'm going to need different bolts after taking it out.

Do you know What is the Torque spect for the Water Pump Bolts?? Thanks :)

This is the reason im watching this video to see if is right or not to use some on that gasket. I guess I got the answer ! Thanks you both👌🏼👍🏼
the belt tensioner must be removed ??

NutzAboutBolts is oem recommended? Rock auto recommends ac Delco or aisin but only aisin comes with the bolts and gasket where delco is gasket only
Sal Salvador id go with aisin, they manufacture Toyota parts.
NutzAboutBolts thanks much man I appreciate the info
NutzAboutBolts wise to change the thermostat too while it’s all apart or not necessarily ?

The shorter bolts came with te water pump. They should come with the new water pump since its been revised.

I bought my part at O'Reilleys. it didn't come with any bolts. Should have gone with the dealership. Thanks man

wow, I'm surprised your dealer didn't give you bolts... you should let them know about the revised water pump.
What was the size of the new shorter bolts? (Length/diameter? pitch?) Thanks.
M6 1"x 25 or you can shorten your two SHORTER bolts to 1" on a grinder like I did.
