  • @francostrong202

    This car is so frustrating to like. It’s a platform that started R&D in the 90s. Nissan saved a boatload by using a platform that needed minimal R&D money. The starting price for the base should be the price of the performance (with the LSD). And the Nismo should be like 10-15k cheaper. Nissan should have known that they were never going to compete with the Supras/ Corvettes/Caymens of the world with a platform that’s 30 years old, so they should have gone the value proposition route. Maybe siphon off some BRZ, Miata, or CTR customers. Getting smoked by a Supra on track would be easier to swallow if I’m paying 10k less than those guys. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      Yep, and for that price you're not even getting all the Nismo parts on the car, and no hshift is a no sale for a lot of car folks. It's a shame since the Nismo catalog is actually very good and the parts are reasonably priced compared to other performance parts. The Z has always been more of a choose your own adventure type of car, you can keep the soft SUV type grand touring suspension and auto trans for folks who just want to ride around (which let's face it, it's what a vast majority will do 99% of the time). Or you can go all the way with an hshift Sport and essentially make it a shifter kart with some Nismo and SPL parts for serious trackday fun.

      It would need to be way cheaper to be desirable. These cars are barely selling. There are a ton of brand new 2024s on dealer lots still and most aren't moving. Even at 10k below MSRP many are just sitting. For these to be desirable, every trim needed to start 10k below what they are. The Nismo should have been a 5k upgrade over the Performance, not 12k.

    Okay, first, all cars should be tested for HP and torque figures in the same way and in the same machine. We have a BMW that is tested at the wheels while the Z is providing a claimed hp at the crank. Remember that in the numbers from the BMW, the power loss throughout the powertrain is already effective (torque converter, transmission, differential) while the Z is yet to take all of that into account after the hp number. Then, we have to wonder about fuel quality, tires and weather (temperature affects a lot of variables like adhesión, air density, cooling, aerodinamic drag, etc). So, before jumping to conclusions about the claims and how much better of a car one is over the other, we should at least have the numbers straight from the same dyno using the same fuel and have the track tests performed after that on conditions as equal as possible

    I love these cars, but they are so overpriced. These are only moving with deep dealer discounts and then the depreciation has been brutal. People who paid 56k for a Performance just a year ago are struggling to sell them at 40k with barely any miles on them. There are many sub 60k Nismos available that havent moved in months. Im worried Nissan axes the Z in a year or two, especially with the economy being in the toilet.

      It's such a historic nameplate, and the NISMO really gets so many things right. We'd just love to live in a world where the numbers on this car add up and there's another worthy market and track competitor to cars like the Supra and Cayman.

      @Grassrootsmotorsports  Месяц назад

      Not many complaints about the auto from us, except for the soft shifts near redline. It reacts quickly and predictably to the paddles, and feels like there's very little if any torque lost through the converter. A true DCT would probably be better, but this one is in a league close to (but slightly below) the BMW/Supra ZF8HP

      Take it up with Nissan's marketing department. Z Nismo is the official name of the car. I agree that it's awkward as hell, and there are a whole bunch of takes we redid of me saying Nismo Z because that just flows off the tongue better. But we wanted to be accurate, and sometimes accurate is awkward.

    It's a bit disingenuous to keep talking about how much more power the z makes compared to the bmw you guys mention. The z does not make 420hp (people have dyno'd it at about 360hp) to the wheels and probably is only marginally powered compared to the bmw. Not too mention the bmw extreme tires are probably actually better than the factory Z tires. So what if the bmw makes less power. The cars are pretty even... Maybe outside of cost lol. Which is where the z falls flat on its face. Yes... it's over priced.

    • @JustOctane

      @Alexkcaruso Месяц назад +2

      That's the point they're trying to make though. They're showing us that the horsepower rating doesn't match what Nissan is claiming when compared to another RWD turbo 6 cylinder car which weighs about the same with a much lower claimed horsepower rating. It's not disingenuous, they're showing us their work rather than making unsubstantiated claims

      Our point was that the Nissan should have a roughly 90hp advantage on the BMW, with similar curb weights, but they're a near dead heat in acceleration. The Z is definitely letting all its claimed horses out of the corral.

      @@Grassrootsmotorsports you guys openly compared claimed horsepower versus real world whp. It's purely disingenuous. There's no other way to put it. It's an odd argument. You are comparing a modded car versus a stock car. It's silly.
