I used the same maddox ball joint press from harbor freight and though it works, I had a hell of a time on the lower balljoint. Using it like you did, I mushroomed the body of the ball joint with the threaded end of the press and had to press it back in before extracting it back out. The biggest spacer also was just a little too short to fully push the joint out before it started hitting the shoulder of the joint and threads below with the hollow cap. I had to fit a socket under the threaded part of the press and the joint to get it out. It worked though. I hear people say the OTC 8031 is the kit to use ideally. Thanks for showing me how you did yours! It was a great reference to what I had ended up doing!
That ball joint kit from Harbor Freight is one of their tools you only have to buy once (very rare .. lol) Very beefy and strong, will probably last forever, have had mine for over 15yrs.. Great Vid!!
Seemed like that penetrating oil really help on that lower ball joints removal. I’m gonna soak mine the night before I attempt this I believe. Thanks for your time man. I’ve watched this 5 times now in preparation and I’m sure it’s gonna be a life/time saver. Thank you !
Thanks for the video. I did this on a '98 Ford "Exploder" and it about killed me (very rusted). Not sure I want to attempt it on my Ram. Guess I gotta pay this time.
What brand of ball joint press did you get? I've got a 2005 ram 2500 4wd that needs this done but I've gotten conflicting reports of the press. Some apparently aren't big enough to do these big trucks. I was going to rent one but I'm afraid it'll be too short to do the job. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. I'm installing rebuildable joints from synergy so I'll probably never need this tool again.
Thanks so do I. I don't remember the name but I bought it off of eBay. The only thing that suck is they went up in price quite a bit. I'm think of getting another one for a paint booth.
Jack the truck up you can pull wheel off or leave it on it's up to you. Then can put a pry bar in the axle behind the u joint make sure you keep it tight and then rock the wheel back and forth if there is any play in the u joint they are bad. Also if you see any rust dust coming out of the caps that's also a sign of a bad u joint. hope this helps you out.

@@badtama07 The first ones the worst one. lol. Glad to hear that you got them all done and the video could help. Thanks for watching.

What did you use to clean inside where you replaced the ball joints ?
Did you need the adapter kit as well from harbor freight? Or was the ball joint kit alone enough?
Go ahead get the adapter kit. Can be done without it if your balljoints aren’t badly seized.
I feel as the kit saved me from extra aggravation.
Great video man just did them on my 2012 wore a hole in the lower one decided to install xrf
Do you need to put your truck in 4 wheel drive before you pull the axle shaft? I heard there’s a little lever than can drop sometimes if you don’t.
No I didn't have to put it in 4 wheel drive.
I believe this is a trick only for the second Gen’s with the Dyna 60 axle. Up to 2002?(ish) don’t quote me on the years.

There is a link to the one i used it is in the description below. i got it for harbor freight. hope that helps.
I bought the OEM tools 25104 from Amazon and it did a great job. Also handy for our u-joints. (I have an 03)
HEY, hoW LONG I TOOK YOU DO ALL THE JOB?
What's that type of building called? I love it.

Question? Why the new ball joints move up and down freely?
The upper joint allows for up and movement.
Hey what about those outer axle seals?
How can you tell if you need to replace your U-Joints?

You may find the upper edge of the tire leaning outward. There's a max spec of something like 1 degree of camber.
What brand of ball joints did you use?
There is a link in the description of which one I used.
Ball joint torque specs?
I want to say it was 140 on the lower and 120 on the upper.
Great video but the music is un necessary.. it’s so loud at some points in the video it’s annoying.
👍👍👍😁
1 3/16 converts to 30mm not 32mm
Needs to slow the video down so you can get a better idea of what to do.
I do the same on my dually
