    That has to be one of the most unique suspension designs in Tamiya history. When you showed a close up of the rear suspension, I wondered who thought that would be a good design when driving the car. It looks neat and functions like it supposed to. But, as you said it difficult to drive. You did a great job on the build. Thanks for sharing.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад

      LOL!! Right!?!?! It is a cool buggy and a little weight may help but I think the solution is the ball diff they sell for it. It would keep the rear from pushing the already limited front steering around and allow it to pivot instead of pushing or rolling as it does now. They have them in stock again so I may go ahead and pick one up. It would be interesting to see a before and after of how it affects it!

I think I am going to order the ball diff for it and do a before and after with it to see how much of an improvement it is for the turning alone. My first RC was a Rough Rider and your comments about the handling of this one are very familiar... 🤣 I never liked the transparent box or the big bent paperclip of a steering linkage in the RR, so it's nice to see the design here. And yeah, that rear suspension looks awesome (and like it works waaaay better than the torsion bar version... 🤣). It's a very cool car and you've got it looking great. 👍

    The super champ was the first Good RC I wanted when I was a kid I thought it was so cool looking straight out of the Baja 1000 books I used to take out of the library . I never ended up getting one as a matter of fact it was a few years before I got a good RC which ended up being the Blackfoot 💪 once they re-released it I was like cool I'm going to get one but even then it was a few years before I did because it's pretty expensive for what it is. Anywho last year my wife made me buy one for my birthday and I built it and I love it I still haven't ran it but I love it it's such a cool looking and unique tank of a rc I ended up buying MCI super champ decals for it to have the old livery. My cousin owned a Super Champ back in 1983. I thought the Fighting Buggy looked like it. I also wish they had kept the Super Champ name. The thing is a tank with all of that metal. So this is a locked diff or aka "straight shaft" as my cousin used to call it. I recall it didn't handle well at all and it weighed a ton LOL I like the oil bottle connected to the shock in the rear. I don't recall that being on the Super Champ. Is that exclusive to the Fighting Buggy? Is that oil bottle functional? Does it keep the oil level full? Thanks for bringing back some fun memories!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      The Super Champ and the Fighting Buggy are the same. It was named the RC Fighting Buggy in Japan when released originally but the name was changed for the US market (maybe others as well) to the Super Champ for better marketing. It does have the locked diff and he was not wrong, it is a solid brass gear with a straight shaft going through it! It is is pretty beefy with all the metal in it and it is not going to clear any big jump well or turn super well but it is fun to drive and like no other I have. The oil bottle is functional as a pressure tank and oil reservoir. It allows for that big shock to fully compress without blowing the seals out when the rear end slams down. There is a lot of fluid movement from full release to full compression in the shock and without that bottle it would not work well at all! Glad you enjoyed it and it brought back some fun memories for ya!

      It is a great looking buggy and his did really well out in the dirt. It worked a lot better out there than mine in the grass! I bought the ball diff for it so once that gets here I will get it in and see how well it does!!

    You should tell people to get a ball diff for it aftermarket that they make for it or someone else does and it'll turn better.

      I am not going to tell people to buy something I don't know how well it will work or not. If I had put on in and it made a difference then I would make that suggestion.

    I always wanted a Super Champ (Fighting Buggy), but at the time, I could afford a Super Champ or a Blazing Blazer but not both. I chose the Blazing Blazer (for better or for worse). I am curious as to how this chassis would work with a differential.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      I would have totally done the same thing! Bother are really cool but I would have gone with the blazing blazer too! They do make a ball diff for this, I have not gotten it yet but should! It is part number 54897. It is not a bad price at all and I should go ahead and get and try it out and do a before and after video! Maybe that could happen..... Take care bud!

      I may get the ball diff they make for this and see how much that improves the diving of it. I assume it will help out a ton with the understeer issues as it does drive like a bulldozer on power! It is a gorgeous classic buggy for sure and I adore looking at it and watching that rear suspension work!
