  • I got the Fighting Buggy all finished and aside from one small deviation from box art it came out great. We chat a bit and and then I take out for a drive! It drives fine but does take about a mile and a half to make a turn! It is a true version of what it was back in the day and I enjoyed the build and the drive!

    Hi Addam! love this buggy, dude! You made me smile (in a good way) when you were talking about the yellow/white lights - are they yellow or white!?!?! Haha only joking, I had no idea what colour they should be. We've all done it though! The run footage was excellent, especially the onboard shots. Very cool! Take care, bro! :O)

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I know there had to be someone out three screaming inside that it was not 100% true box art! Looks lovely Addam. A Tamiya classic for sure. Great run footage too. Interesting to see that central rear spring working. Hey how hot is it out there at the moment? It's about 30c/86f here at the mo which is too hot for me but I bet you have it hotter?

      Thanks! It was a wonderful build and turned out looking pretty good! The rear shock did get a work out for sure!!! It has been in the mid 80s to mid 90s for the last month but the humidity has been in the 85%+ range so it just feel like hot soup when you walk outside. Thankfully the last couple days the humidity has gone down tremendously and this weekend is supposed to be the same so I have a list of chores to do today since I have been putting them off for a while due to the heat but I am hoping to get some stuff out running for upcoming videos now that I won't won't instantly start sweating out there!

    Wicked cool build Addam! Super job on the details! Love the metal bits on it, as it just ads to the realism!. You showed some great physical endurance and agility for a man your age running around following that thing with the cam😀😆. Kinda like running around chasing a 2 yr old!😂! One handed driving, running and trying to keep the car in frame while not trying to fall on my face... yeah, that should be some sort of sport all on it's own!!! • @AddamsPlayground

      It was fixable thankfully and you can't really tell. I was so please with how smooth and glossy the blue came out when the red bleed up under the tape I was really deflated and it took a couple of days to get back to it! I just had to clear out the grumpiness and get back into a good state of mind to continue with it. If I had tried to fix it the same day I pulled the tape off of it I probably would have been more hasty and caused more problems! I had really hoped that by taping it off so carefully it was going to be super crisp and clean and was just the opposite! It turned out great in the end and I learned something from it so all good in the end and part of building kits!

    You did an outstanding job on the build. You have a lot of patience and attention to detail. The car looks great! It really absorbs the bumps we'll and the rear shock system is very unique. It seems every Fighting Buggy I've seen has the unusual camber in the rear.I was wondering why it was designed like that or is that a function of the shock system? Thanks for sharing.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! I am happy with the build and the end result! The wonky camber is due to the way the suspension mounts and works. The rear arms shar a pivot pin with the cantilever arms the shock mounts to so they have the same pivot point and to allow for full travel the arms pivot downwards and the hub is part of the arm so the camber goes from one extreme to another through the up/down travel. Most buggies use tow arms or an arm and a a link with a pivoting hub to all the wheel to stay straight up and down through the cycle but this one is fixed to the arm so it changes at it pivots up and down. I hope that explained it well enough.

      I always try my best with them and inevitably something goes wrong with something but usually it is a mistake that will be hidden by a well place decal or something. This time it was just more frustrating when prepping to be successful led to failure so I was kind of bent about that. It turned out fine in the end and it was a fun first drive! It does take a country mile to make a turn but other than that it works perfectly. I had a blast watching that rear suspension work! Strive for perfect but accept "really nice" as an outcome!!

  • @MauzyrockRC
    @MauzyrockRC 2 года назад +1

    I have to agree with Rex, besides the other sweet cam views, watching that wacky design on the rear shock move was great! Are you using an insta 360? Also, what are those block that prop up your models on your awesome new shelving? Rock on!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 года назад

      Yeah I was wanting to get those cool rear end shot like David from Kai City RC gets but I just looked like a drunk chasing a chicken out there and the video of that was terrible!!! I am using the Insta360 and still have not found the best setting for filming yet but it was a cool shot of the shock! The blocks I use are foam yoga blocks that U cut down. I usually try and get the 9x6x3 blocks and for the trucks and on-road cars I cut them to 9x3x3 and for the buggies I cut them on a diagonal from 2 to 4 inches to slant them forward just for a cooler looking angle! You can buy the same type of foam stands but I can buy 2 blocks, cut them into 4 stand for $15-20 and ones sole for RC are close to $20 each!! When you only have one or two cars it aint that bad but when you start getting into a dozen or more it gets to be an pricey option! I work best to cut them with a bandsaw but I have done it with a chop saw. You can cut them with a regular hand saw but preferably one with a small tooth to avoid ripping chunks out of the foam when cutting. They cut like warm butter on the bandsaw!!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      Hi Lionel, this one looks great and drives really great in a straight line! Turning is not its strong suit! On power it wants to just keep shoving it along in a straight line. Off power turning is a lot better but you have to be really careful to not fully let of or it can slow too quick and then the front end dives and then it turns too quick and wants to roll! It takes some getting used to on how and when to turn it properly. I give it a pass as it looks so good and I can watch that rear suspension work all day long!!

    @matthewtavik 2 года назад +1

    Bro, that rear suspension set up is bonkers and that back end is hella chonk! Have you taken it on the track yet to see how it goes over the hill? Also is it my imagination or did it look like the front end was really stiff over the normal terrain?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 года назад +1

      LOL, it has a solid rear end! It does not turn very well both due to lack of steering throw and that locked rear end. I may take it on the track after some practice with it but you really have to plan for turns with it and I know right now I would just hit almost everything out there! I did notice in the video the front seemed like it did not move as much as expected. I did check today and the fronts move super easy so I am not sure why it looks like that!

      Thanks!! I was trying to get some good shots of the rear by running behind it like David from Kai City RC does... Yup, that did not last long! I looked like a drunk chasing a chicken out there!!! My non-athletic butt out there trying to lumber around awkwardly behind it while trying to drive one handed was an epic failure an thankfully nobody witnessed that mess!!! You should have seen the confused look on my face when the yellow lights would not go one there! It took me a few minute to figure out what was going on! I had fun and it was a great build and I am so happy to have an iconic car like this in my collection now!

      Thanks!! I honestly enjoy the building as much if not more than driving them. Especially if they are a new chassis type or a custom build. It is my happy place sitting at the bench and listening to some tunes and just tinkering away! Sometimes making them come out too nice is a curse as you really don't want to drive them hard and run the risk of ruining all that effort. Now that I have a couple out there to choose from it is not that big of a deal though.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      It is a great kit and was a joy to build. I really enjoy building new chassis types (ones I have never built, not new as in age!). The front bumper is not the best but at least is isn't one like the Grasshopper that is almost as big as the buggy! I did get the ball diff here to install in it at some point to help with the on power steering. It is a unique one to drive and get it to turn well, you need good throttle control to get it right! Take care and thanks for stopping by and checking it out!!

      @@AddamsPlayground I always have fun until it is time to put the decals on and then it just gets stressful! Somehow they never seem to fit properly for me. When I applied the decals on my Buggy Champ/Rough Rider, I just couldn't get them to line up properly no matter how carefully I tried.

    i really want to get this. is this better than the wild one or sand scorcher?

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      I have not gotten the Sand Scorcher yet (it is on the list for sure) but I have heard the SS does turn a bit better than the Fighting Buggy does. The FB does not have the internal electronics box so fitting a regular battery is a lot easier to where it can be pain with the SS. I think the Wild One will run circle around this one (Literally and figuratively!) and has better suspension and handling. The classis looks and the super cool rear suspension is the selling point for me on this one and it is a very wonderful kit to build. For performance I would go to the Wild One, for the cool factor of the machined parts and the fun of watching the rear suspension working I would say the FB is great and for just a cool fun looking bug that is one of THE Tamiya trademark cars the SS is the winner!

      @davekim7573 Год назад +1

      @AddamsPlayground thanks for the honest review...I got the ss and it's running a lot better than I thought. But it's not running pretty well considering the old design. I got the blockhead wild one only for the looks and will probably stick with torque tuned and Ali servo. I started to pay attention to the fighting buggy since the rear oil reservoir looks awesome...I hope it could at least run somewhat on grass. I am gonna do hobbling 1060 with torque tuned if I do get it

    Picked up a nib rere a few weeks back. Felt this was a kit I just had to have in my collection for the nostalgic value of it and all aluminum. Trying to wrap up a few projects before I start that one. But I'm looking forward to it !

      @AddamsPlayground  Год назад +1

      It is a terrific build and some really unique stuff going on with it! Take care when driving it for the first time! It takes a bit to get used to the turning. Since the diff is locked it really pushes the front end around and it has less than ideal steering angle as well. It all wraps up with taking a country mile to turn while on power!!

      Thanks!! After I got them put on I kind of like the lights they way they are, it kind of didn't make sense to why they would run yellow and white covers on them anyways. It drove well outside of the lack of steering rate but that is just something that take a little while to get used to. I guess there are mods you can do to increase the steering but for now it will leave it alone and enjoy it just romping around in the grass and driving it as it was back in the day!!! It is certainly no racer but is a tremendously fun one to build and drive. It has a turning radius of school bus but once you get used to it you learn to plan for it.
