No more words to say about the DT-03. It's one of my most liked chassis. But as a child of the 80s I have to say cars have to have corners and edges, so I like the Fighter body more. Nice video Addam, thanks for showing👍
Yeah the body on the Racing Fighter is more inline of the classics and the Neo Fighter is more of a fuselage almost. Both are great but like you I kind of prefer defined shape to the cars!
I do think it is a rather underrated kit as they do perform very well and cost very little compared to many other 2wd buggies. I do enjoy the DT03 chassis a lot and they all run very well. They don't take much to be super great cars!!
The DT-03 will be a future classic. So glad I chose this buggy as my first RC after a very long hiatus. I'm curious about the DT-03T Aqroshot too. Those don't come up too often.
The Aqroshot is on my list of things to get the moment I see it back in stock! I think it may drive a bit better out of the box with the heavier and wider front tires. I think that would have to help the light feeling front end and the understeer from it. As soon as they show up here again I am getting one for sure!!
Thanks!! They are a really fun build and are really good right out of the box. It does have a longer wheelbase so you may have to goose it around the corners to get it to rotate! The good old full brake, full turn, full gas type turning!!
Thanks! I had looked at it prior but could only find the XB version which to me is defeating the purpose of a Tamiya kit by it being pre-built but I also didn't want to pay the roughly $60 extra for it. those front decals are a bit tricky but not hard. Just take some patience and care putting on. I think it looks a bit tougher and meaner than the neo fighter. Possible the pink and the big cartoon frog on my neo fighter softens it up looks wise a little! LOL! Focus mister, you need to get it done before you start getting snow up there!!!
I like it! Orange was not available when I built mine. I painted it black. I was going to go stickerless for the Batmobile look but ended up putting on the decals. Nice job! The grey stickers up front are the hardest
I had tinkered with the idea of painting it another color. I had seen a few done in non-box art paint schemes and liked it. once I got it in my hand I really did like the contrast of the orange and black so I went that way. I am glad paint seems to be easier to fin now. A year a go it was hit or miss if you were going to find what you wanted in stock anywhere! Thankfully my LHS has a full rack in stock now so I can be fairly confident they will have what I want. I agree the front sticker are the trickiest of the whole kit and make this kit a little tougher than the Neo to get finished but thankfully I was able to get them on without and major issue!
Hi Addam, yeah, everyone need a DT03 (or 2!) in their collection! Like you said, it's a lot of buggy for your bucks! The car looked great around your track, a little fine tuning and you'll be in the low 10's! All the best, dude! :))
Thanks Mark!! I think with a few tweaks it will be a ripper. I am looking for the DT03 option springs currently for a decent price. Otherwise I think I have everything here to get it tuned and dialed in!! Thanks for watching as always!
I think the color combination with the black wheels looks great. The car looked great on the track. I noticed that it wanted to wheelie on the turf section of the track. I have a friend with the same chassis and he runs in a parking lot series and he's trying to get it to turn better.
I am going to stick a couple of the self adhesive wheel balance weights in the front to get a little more weight up there. you can find them on Amazon and most auto parts stores. I would like to find some stiffer springs as well for the rear. I think they make a sway bar kit for the DT03 as well but I have not ventured that far down the road yet. Some of the Schumacher "Cut Stagger" front tires may help as well. I think I am going to get a set for mine, I have just not ordered them yet.
They really are great buggies and I am not sure why they are not more popular. I love mine and have enjoyed the Neo fighter on the track as we as just bombing around in the yard as well!
Hi Addam, I have one too. I bought the chrome body one thinking it would be nice, mmmm it's not so nice. Your orange looks better. any how is a greta car and super good to drive. I'll make a video, next year. Ciao
Thanks Nanni, I have seen the chrome on and it looks cool but I think the chrome one are best suited for collections of shelf queens. It is a niche finish that quickly gets torn up when driving them and it kind of ruins the idea of the pretty mirror finish with scratches on them! They are super fun to drive and easy ones to build as well.
Thanks! It is a fun and pretty easy kit to build up and other than those front stickers it is an easy one to finish as well. I had toyed with the idea of painting it another color but I had saw a few done in non-box art paint schemes and liked it. Once I got it in my hand I really did like the contrast of the orange and black so I went with it and I do like it a lot!
yah, the switch thing with the 1060s not fitting the tamiya holes is annoying, i just snip em off and solder on compatible switches. A good source believe it or not is dollar store flashlights. a lot of the switches in those things believe it or not are compatible with the hole arrangement. For 1$ you get the switch and some leds heh.
Yeah I have not understood their rebranding of them but not having the proper switches installed on them to be compatible with their kits. Seem silly but it seems like we are stuck with them. I have looked a couple time for switches to replace them but there are 1,567,347 different types, sizes and functionality out there and I never find ones I want and get tired of looking! I may have to swing into a dollar store soon!! LOL!
That's a great buggy chassis for sure and a great deal! I would think with the smaller rear wing and deeper cut front tires it would have less understeer also than the neo fighter.
They are a great bang for the buck! I think it I had watered the track down it would have gripped a bit better. It was really dry and sandy in some spots but it still did pretty good for box stock. A few tweaks and I am sure the front will grip a bit better.
Thanks! It does suffer from a heavy booty! The stock springs are a little soft but I crammed a few extra spring spacers in the Neo Fighter to compensate for it. I'll probably do the same for the RF as well as I did see some scrapes on the rear end after running it.
Nikko 1 second ago I just built a DT-03 …I put my own spin on it , all steel bearings and turquoise blue shocks front & back / steel turquoise blue front bar . Tower servo , Hobbywing speed controller & Carson reciever & control . Plus all blacked out wheels 🛞 ( wider wheels in front ) rather than the skinny wheels . As for the body I done mine all gloss black , with few stickers ….looks slick that way . Took it out today , the grip it has is insane , ain’t flipped it once !! 🔥
Grats Addam. Two wonderful Buggies you have there. I am with you. The DT-03 Neo / Racing Fighter are slightly underrated by the Tamiya community in my opinion. But I will definately pick one of these up. The price is so good, you can build them as a side project and once they are finished you have a nice runner with an acceptable perfomance. Have fun 🤘😎

The Racing Fight front sticker are a bit more of a challenge but is not too hard at all. I highly recommend these buggies as for their price you get a lot and they are just a good time!
They are really fun buggies for the price for sure! The gearboxes on these hold up to decent power and I have seen a lot of folks running brushless systems on them. I think the 3600-4000kv would be more than enough for it. Any more than that and you'll be blowing the tires off it!! LOL!!
They are a great bang for the buck buggies. It is not easy to find a kit with oil dampers and a motor upgrade for this price! They run really well and are nice relaxing build, no real tricks or troubles from them!
They are both great buggies and are both a joy to build and drive! I do enjoy my neo fighter as well, it isn't quite as tough looking with the cartoon frog and the pink paint on it though! LOL
Both look like great buggy’s. The neo fighter really catches my eye. $125 is a great price for these. The neo fighter is going on my list! Thanks bud!👍🏻😋
They are very straight forward builds and a great driving buggies. They are wonderful buggies for the price point and have extras included not on most kits around this price! If you opt to go fast in them it'll handle it but you will need to add some weight up front to aid in on power steering.
11.02, not bad! That’s one of the faster times if I remember right, that thing is beautiful but it reminded me of a question I had meant to ask a while back. How do you go about masking the interior of the body to prep for paint? I got some fat fingers and I just can’t seem to get the masking right on the windows and such. I know you’ve got years and years of experience but I was mainly wondering if you had any tips and tricks that help.
It is pretty quick around the track. I think the fastest is somewhere around 10.3/10.4 so this was not bad at all for a fresh out of the box build! So for window mask the best way is to completely cut out the masking with the backing applied or if it is pre-cut then I remove all the excess masking material and cut really close to the pre-cut masking. Then peel back one small corner of the backing and cut it off, maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of it. It should stay rolled back a little, leave it like that as you don't want it to grab anything. Then I stick the masking up to the window on the inside and get it positioned where it needs to go and and then stick the one corner down. once that is stuck and the mask is in the right spot fold it over and begin peeling the backing away. I will get about half of it exposed and start sticking it down carefully making sure it stays lined up with the window. once that is down I then pull the rest of the backing away and finish laying it down. I do not press it all down as I am laying it. I tend to run a line from the lower corner of the mask to the upper corner across from it diagonally to get it down and in place but it could be peeled up if needed. Once you have it down nicely, start from the line you pressed down and work you way out from that line smooth trying to get all the air bubble out if it. Don't fret over a bubble or two if you have some. As long as the edges are down and have no creases the air bubble is not going to bother anything. I used to worry about them and pop them but run the risk of paint bleeding into the pinhole.
They really are good performing buggies with a nice price tag. I have only broken the servo saver on one of them but those Tamiya servo savers are prone to just snapping. I don't mind it as it protects the rest of the steering bit s from damage!
Very good comparsion. Your sticker information ist also interesting, because I hate painting, and sticker jobs. For the Neo Fighter front wheels, the inner sponge Sp-1448 from the Zahhak 2WD Buggy DN-01 fits. In Germany most of the time, the Neo Fighter is a litte bit cheaper so I prefer (and have) the Neo Fighter.
The painting and stickering can be the most time consuming and tedious parts of a build so I get it! Thanks for the tire tip! It used to be the same here with the Neo Fighter being cheap but I think they realized they sold a lot more of them so they raised the prices on them. I recently got this one for less the going prices of the Neo Fighter. Thankfully I got my Neo before the price increases!!
Hi there Addam, they look great! The Rising Fighter is perhaps a bit more visually striking, but the Neo Fighter looks cool too, with that Frog throwback. I’ve got a Neo Fighter to build up, purchased in on Amazon in the UK for £76! A real bargain ! Take care and best wishes to you and the family 😉😊😁
Thanks! I m toying with the idea of trying to find a body set for the Racing Fighter and doing it as a Hornet throwback as well! If I can find one cheap enough and get some cheap decals maybe, not something I want to sink a ton of money into. The are great kits for the price and a ton of fun to drive! Take care buddy!
Well I had some practice doing it the first time! I did lose the footage, temporarily, it has been found but it was too late. I had left the SD card in a pocket and it went through the washer! Once it dried out for a while it is fine and ready to go again. I think I'm losing it too but that is not terribly surprising! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for tuning in and listening to my ramblings!
@@AddamsPlayground I was watching while working my my first kit - I just put the 2 differentials together on the 911 GT1 Street kit. I’m hooked, this is going to be a lot of fun.
@@All_RC_Fun it can be rather addicting building them up! Honestly it is my favorite part now. I get more out of seeing them come to life and building new and different types or customizing them than I did driving them. Now I still do get a kick out of driving them but my main interest is in the building. Have fun with it and I apologize for the light wallet you will have soon!!
Thanks! I like the buggy a lot and the track is a real nice thing to have at the house!! I need to get out there and do a bunch of maintenance on it as it is get be a little beat up in some sport, mainly the jump face!
@@rcuintheshed6981 I will probably doo more running in the colder weather than the summer! I hate the hot and humid weather we get over the summer, you start sweeting and never stop!! But it always a good time to be at the bench building a kit!!
Nice car, I think I like the Neo Fighter body better than the Racing Fighter body. But, I guess that is just personal preference. I have a DT-02 car (Sand Viper), I think the front shock mount looks stronger on the DT-03.
I do thin the shock mounts on these are little more prone to breaking but so far so good with mine!. I do like the looks of both of the buggies and enjoyed doing my Neo up in the Frog theme. I do like the aggressive styling of this one too and it would be cool to get another body and do it in a hornet theme!
Thanks! I also like the aggressive look to it and it looks more like a traditional buggy than the fighter jet fuselage than the Neo Fighter has. I like both of them and they both look cool but this one is more on tougher side looks wise. They are a great bang for the buck as well with the extras you get on here!!
LOL, maybe it is a phase maybe it is permanent, who knows! I think most of in RC for a while go through phases and preferences change over time. These are some good one to get going with though if you decide to try something new!!!!
Thanks Pez, I really like these buggies, they are a great buy for the price and are a ton of fun!!! The SD card did not need formatting, it need less laundry matting!! It went through the washer and had to dry out for a few days. By the time it was found I had already gone out an re-recorded both of these and uploaded the footage. Too bad I couldn't have found it sooner as it was some of the cleanest footage I have ever had!!! I'll see myself out now....
Very nice I would definitely prefer the orange one also it looks a lot nicer great info there I like sticker's also but as you mentioned it can be a lot of hard work 😄
It definitely has more of the classic buggy body lines. Thankfully the stickers went on really well and look really nice. Some can be very tedious though!
Thanks Charl, I am glad you enjoyed it! The DT03 platform is a great buggy and a blast to drive! The decals on this one can be a little more tricky but with some planning and patience they go on there very nicely and look great. Take care and have a great weekend!
Irresponsibility! Also known as little kid mind and big people money! LOL! I liked the look of both, they are relaxing to build and they are cheaper kits so it was just like many others where the "oh, I want that one too" kicked in!
Thank you!! The Sand Viper is a little more agile and has a little more steering overall. This one has a slightly longer wheelbase and is a little light in the front end and adding more power than the torque tuned motor is just going to amplify that. Now the Sand Viper was also a little light in front too but that was getting pushed around by the GT Tuned motor. A few self adhesive wheel balance weights up front will help the on power and off power steering a lot. A super cheap and easy fix. The only other thing is the rear shock springs are a little soft so a few extra spring spacers will fix that.
Currently they do not have the full RTR version available. You can get these in two ways, the kit version you have to build and paint yourself, Tamiya part #58628. Or they have the assembled version that just requires you to install your own radio gear and steering servo, Tamiya part #TAM46702. The kit is currently $124 and the assembled version is $192 at Amain Hobbies. A budget radio system will run you $40-65 and a servo will be $15-25 roughly.
Nice looking build Addam👌, that's my favourite buggy of that series. It looked good on the track, where does it place on your leader board? Thanks for sharing another great video👍🦘🇦🇺
Thank you, I thinkit is up towards the top. I need to add it to the board as well as the Sand Viper. I will get them added toss out a quick update on it very soon! Thanks as always for stopping by and checking in!!
Hey there Mark! Thank you very much!! The Mutts Cutts van is my favorite custom build I have done so far. I am not sure anything else will beat it for the fun factor! You should go find the run video of it, It is so funny to the the ears flopping about and it is just plain silly and I love it! I appreciate you stopping by!!
I would like to build mine because now you're going to have to open one that's built and put new ball bearings in it because it doesn't come with ball bearings.
I did eventually find the original footage, it went through the washer and had to let the SD card dry out for a while but by then I had re-recorded the footage and the uploaded the videos! Thanks as always for stopping by and for checking in!
Damn I got the bug, I want a racing fighter with the neo wing but the racing fighter is $50 more expensive than the neo, what do I do? Decisions decisions why is it so hard, 😂.
Yeah, I don't understand the price difference in them. It used to be the other way around a few years ago, the Neo was more expensive and then for some reason they swapped pricing. To be honest, if you are going to drive it hard, just get the cheaper one as the wings get get pretty beat up and the roof gets scraped up after some tumbles.
I prefer the racing fighter buggy body over the neo fighter however like the wing and wheels from the neo fighter better. I think it’s the graphics on the racing fighter that lose me. Love the orange however.
Yeah they both have their pros and cons. I kind of see the Neo Fighter more of a blank slate to do whatever you want to with it. The Fighter Buggy has all the cage frame decals you kind of need our it looks odd. Both are fun and are decent performing buggies for a reasonable price so you can't be mad at that! LOL!
No more words to say about the DT-03. It's one of my most liked chassis. But as a child of the 80s I have to say cars have to have corners and edges, so I like the Fighter body more. Nice video Addam, thanks for showing👍

I have the Neo Fighter with a Core 15t motor, I love it. Tough, nippy and dirt cheap.
They really are good performing buggies with a nice price tag. I have only broken the servo saver on one of them but those Tamiya servo savers are prone to just snapping. I don't mind it as it protects the rest of the steering bit s from damage!
@@AddamsPlayground very true, and again, parts are so cheap and easy to replace, we can deal with that 👍🏻
Very good comparsion.
I got my Racing Fighter as a XSA. I wish I had it as a kit. Anyway I love DT03!
Yeah I am not sure why it only available in the XSA version for so long! The DT03 buggies are really fun ones and drive really well!
Well second take was good, so either you lost the footage or you’re losing it. But it’s good entertainment either way. Keep up the fun sir.
Another nice build bro good design and style to it nice lap work to bro that track is awesome 👌 👊
Thanks! I like the buggy a lot and the track is a real nice thing to have at the house!! I need to get out there and do a bunch of maintenance on it as it is get be a little beat up in some sport, mainly the jump face!
Keep a track in good usable condition is hard
@@rcuintheshed6981 that and it is nowhere near as much fun as building the kits to run on it!!
Awwww yer and heading into winter good time to be inside building kits
I wish I had one more dto to and I a dto3 I have a dto1 and I would still like another detail one so I have all the DT series.
Racing fighter looks awesome Addam really like the body shape 👍🏅🤩🚴 great price on these to
Thanks! I also like the aggressive look to it and it looks more like a traditional buggy than the fighter jet fuselage than the Neo Fighter has. I like both of them and they both look cool but this one is more on tougher side looks wise. They are a great bang for the buck as well with the extras you get on here!!
Wow-once I get past my rally phase( is it a phase though?) I think I should check out these higher end buggies... 👍👍👍
LOL, maybe it is a phase maybe it is permanent, who knows! I think most of in RC for a while go through phases and preferences change over time. These are some good one to get going with though if you decide to try something new!!!!
looks great Addam, I love those cheap builds. Sad about losing footage again? could the SD cards need formatting?
Thanks Pez, I really like these buggies, they are a great buy for the price and are a ton of fun!!! The SD card did not need formatting, it need less laundry matting!! It went through the washer and had to dry out for a few days. By the time it was found I had already gone out an re-recorded both of these and uploaded the footage. Too bad I couldn't have found it sooner as it was some of the cleanest footage I have ever had!!! I'll see myself out now....
@@AddamsPlayground 😂😂😂😂👍💪🔥
Very nice I would definitely prefer the orange one also it looks a lot nicer great info there
I like sticker's also but as you mentioned it can be a lot of hard work 😄
It definitely has more of the classic buggy body lines. Thankfully the stickers went on really well and look really nice. Some can be very tedious though!
Thank YOU REALLY APPRECIATE VIDEO and advise, Charl south Africa
Thanks Charl, I am glad you enjoyed it! The DT03 platform is a great buggy and a blast to drive! The decals on this one can be a little more tricky but with some planning and patience they go on there very nicely and look great. Take care and have a great weekend!
What made you buy two of the same chassis just because they had different bodies
Irresponsibility! Also known as little kid mind and big people money! LOL! I liked the look of both, they are relaxing to build and they are cheaper kits so it was just like many others where the "oh, I want that one too" kicked in!
Super fine video as always sir! How do you feel it drives compared to the Sand Viper? 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
Does it come with the transmitter??
@@AddamsPlayground
No problems, thank you!
Looking forward to seeing the leader board mate👍
Put two pieces of Lexan under and over the wing
Yeah, it definitely could use some reinforcement! I know the ne on my Neo fighter has gotten bent a couple times now.
Hello from the UK. Great channel mate. Lovin that dumb and dumber in the background 🇬🇧👌
Mine has bearings in it, I did not get the XB version. I got the kit version.
👍 happens bro👍
What are the dimensions of your rc track?
I think it is around 24x40 roughly.
I like the racing fighter better than the neo.. kinda resembles an original RC-10
It does have the classic body line to it for sure. It is kind of like a Hornet body and an RC 10 body got smashed together!
@@AddamsPlayground yes, that’s it totally..
LOL!
I've seen these cars run off of 3300 brushless systems.
The racing fighter would have better turn in would be quicker and more razor sharp and turning than the other one.
