A very good one again! I like your vids Sir, and the gunsmithing part of these BP revolvers. And I have to, because in my country, only these are legal to have. Greetings from Hungary. I managed to have an Uberti 1873, big dream to make it race gun.
I picked up a single action intercontinental arms Armi jaeger Dakota in .45 colt from a pawnshop a few years back. Seems like a quality pistol, I guess Bob Munden would use the same model on occasion. Really don’t know much about them though!
I'm a big fan Bob munden wish i could shoot like he did too bad Canada has a handgun banned bill c 11 so probably will never be able to own a single action revolver and toco i enjoy watching your videos learn alot about revolvers from you.
I must say you did a very good job on the 1873 it is not an easy task, but my favorite is the 1851 there is nothing like opening up a part of history, i have done many myself and i know just how difficult it really is, we really were born in the wrong century.
Id really love to see you review the Taylor's and co single action revolvers. They have some that they claim are "Taylor tuned" for competition shooting and such id love to see your opinion of them for the price they are at
A "tuned Taylor" has a nice action but it's like tuning up a car to run smoothly comparing to building a 9 second quarter mile hot rod. That's what a race gun is. There really is no comparison. Competition tuned single action revolvers can not be aggressively fanned or fast triple shot like a SAA race gun even though they can be used effectively in cowboy action or cowboy fast draw competition.
Hey bro, I just wanna say I love your videos your videos kinda got me hooked on all the revolvers. I’ve been watching you for a long time and love all of your content recently, I purchased one of my top-tier dream guns 1872 colt cattleman, revolver by Taylor and Co but sadly somethings going on with the revolver I only shot 100 rounds through it at the range. And a lot of weird stuff kept happening I can see the hammer kept striking the round way off where the primer was and later when I got home and inspected it every single screw was a loose on the gun. The bottom look like the it was splitting into two pieces. The handle was coming off and now when I put the hammer in the second position for reloading the cylinder spins freely forwards and backwards. I’m talking about so freely that if you blow on the cylinder hard enough, it would start spinning and the little fingers that come out to turn the cylinder really work anymore and are very chewed up. Very upset with the pawnshop that sold it to me. I’m gonna get in touch with them Monday to see what they say but what do you think I should do? Should I make a post about everything? saying who and where the business is bc God forbid, my hand could’ve blew up, considering every single screw was loose on the gun. It could’ve flew apart and came back and hit me in the face. Need some advice. 😢 btw I never fan the gun or nothing like that and I was using low grain cowboy rounds. The gun is chambered in 44-40
@@TUCOtheratt ya it is uberti i’m just gonna go to the pawnshop tomorrow and tell them to just give me a refund or exchange it for something else because this was ridiculous and honestly very dangerous, considering they never checked anything and all the handles and screws, and everything was loose w e i’ll let you know what happens tomorrow
Would you consider doing a review of a somewhat new single action on the market. The gun I am asking about is the Taurus Deputy in 357. TUCOtheratt, have you ever done fast draw with a modern double action revolver from a western holster? Would the time of the first shot be as fast as a single action revolver? Would this be safer than fast drawing a single action revolver? I think The Walking Dead Nebraska Bar scene - You tube is one of the best modern western style gunfight scenes ever made. The You Tube video is only 24 seconds long and worth watching. Also, I really enjoyed the video about the 1858 race gun.
I have shot a few double action revolvers but I have never owned one. I suspect that if a person worked hard in practice to develop the skill necessary he could go very near the speed possible with a single action revolver, and yes it would be safer to fast draw a double action revolver than a single action revolver using live ammunition assuming all gun safety rules were followed. However, in terms of the fastest speed possible the single action revolver has the advantage because as the strong hand draws the gun and presses the trigger during the draw the weak hand can close in on the hammer for a fan shot as soon as the barrel is on target.
I just got my first single action recently. It's just a stock Uberti Evil Roy in .357 so one question I did have is how fast can I get with this revolver before I need to upgrade to a race gun to avoid damaging it? Obviously no fanning for the stock gun but I don't know how fast you can go just with two hands before it's 'too fast'
Thumbing with the off hand, like a cowboy action shooter, as fast as you can shouldn't hurt anything. However, striking the hammer with the palm or fingers with any significant speed or force will damage it. More info on my Rumble channel. Thanks!
Great vid Tuco, I posted an edit of you on my RUclips if you’re interested. The quality isn’t super sharp but you still look very cool in it. Thank you!
May I ask what the three little black strips on the grips of the revolvers are? I’ve never seen that on a revolver before. Is it just for aesthetic reasons? Is it to have better grip on the gun? Or is it a part of the process of turning it into a race gun? I’m fairly young, and don’t have the money or the freedom to be able to buy my own guns just yet, but I know that the single action revolver(don’t exactly know which model I’m going to buy yet) is going to be one of the first guns I ever buy.
Wow what a quick response. I am very interested in wear and tear, how do they hold up if shot a lot. Any vendor you would recommend to purchase from & do the tune up. I wish we lived closer I let you check out the one I have. I bought it on a whim. Now I don't want to buy a match and find out they aren't any good. I don't know how to Thank You, Boomer Jack In cold rainy Pa.
Ok, I like to throw a curve ball in once in a while. What would be cool is a single actioned colt python race gunned. That would raise the Tuco cool factor up a fair few notches… huh !
You ought to be in western movies, but all of the known western gunfighters didn't fan there guns which is purely Hollywood because ammo was expensive and depending on what you carried was hard to come by.
I want the Colt Navy, precisely the last one on the table, I love it, I just don't know where to buy it because I wanted to buy at least an airsoft one (if I really couldn't find the real one) because anyway I wanted a model that could be used because I have the license, but at least if I can't find the real one I wanted the airsoft, do you know where I can buy them both so that I can evaluate and buy one?
I’m curious, do you have any experience with short stroke revolvers? I believe one of Bob Munden’s bird head Ruger Vaqueros was shown on Hickok45s channel years ago and Munden had made it into a short stroke where the hammer didn’t have to travel back as far as normal to engage the “full cock” notch. Would be really interested to hear your take on it in a video!
I've only handled a short stroke SAA once. It's great for cowboy action slip thumbing but the action must remain a bit heavier than a race gun because all the movement/friction/inertia happens quicker and the main spring must be a bit heaver to build hammer drop speed with the short stroke.
I saw a couple of videos breaking one down. The ejection housing is screwed right to the barrel like a cheap Uberti. The action appeared to be corse. I think they are way overpriced.
Colt quality is all over the place and they are way over priced. Pietta's GW2 are at least as good and replacement parts are consistently high quality and affordable imo.
Hey Tuco, I'm new to the Italian clothes but I'm picking up what you're laying down about Pieta's guts being stronger than Uberti. I kinda dig the octagon barrel on the El Malo. Is it as strong as the other Pietta's? I only shoot a couple or 300 rounds per month and no fanning. In your opinion do you think I'd be good to go with the El Malo?
Pietta has their own octagonal barrel model. It is a “Davidson’s Exclusive” 1873 Pietta Gunfighter (Great Western II) 4.75” barrel .45 Colt - Color Case Hardened Frame, Blued Finish, Black Plastic Checkered grips. Has a thicker front sight, has a 1873 round shaped cartridge ejector. UPC: 8052464213467 - I have been happy with mine.
@@Mr.9x19mm I have to say that's a fine lookin widow maker and I'll bet it does shoot good. I guess i should have mentioned I'm lookin at a .357, just got a 1873 and lookin for its mate. Do you offer services to make race guns, or do you know of a good service that will make a race gun? I would love to have a single action revolver that would hold up to fanning the hammer and things like that.
Now the real question, when are you going to start building race guns for people, and how much $? Because at some point in the not too far off future I'd definitely be interested in purchasing a custom Tuco race gun if it were possible.
@@TUCOtheratt perfectly understandable. My uncle did his own gunsmith work back in the day, mostly competition shotguns, and he had those same concerns. He still ended up doing a lot of work for folks though, sadly he needed the money bad enough to run the risk. That's been 25+ years ago and I still run into people who have his custom builds. For all the time I spent with him as a kid while he was working on guns I didn't retain a bit of the knowledge 😆🤷♂️

Thanks for the info. I want to get some single action cowboy guns. Would like one to be able to be fanned. Is there a downside to a race gun for plinking type use?
@@TUCOtheratt Thanks. So the next obvious question is where does on purchase a quality racegun? I know I can’t do it myself. Can a Schofield be made into a racegun?
Any help you can give me would be very appreciated. i know theres a big difference in how they work, but is there any advice you can give me on how to prevent the cyclender from over rotating during my follow up shots

Those are grip tap strips, like sand paper. Helps managing recoil with one hand while shooting fast.
would it be possible to release the photographs of the disassembled Bob Munden gun parts for others who are trying to get into race guns?
not on YT
Wow what a quick response. I am very interested in wear and tear, how do they hold up if shot a lot. Any vendor you would recommend to purchase from & do the tune up. I wish we lived closer I let you check out the one I have. I bought it on a whim. Now I don't want to buy a match and find out they aren't any good. I don't know how to Thank You, Boomer Jack In cold rainy Pa.
Ok, I like to throw a curve ball in once in a while.
What would be cool is a single actioned colt python race gunned.
That would raise the Tuco cool factor up a fair few notches… huh !
I've never owned a double action revolver and have to interest in them.
@@TUCOtheratt
Exactly my point, make it single action only.
Don’t ask me how I’m not a gunsmith but it would raise some interest.
In my country I can buy one at any gun store.
Unfortunately I'm in Italy and I can't go to an armory since mine is a small village and not a big city, so I needed a site
@@checkmate664 You'd have to check into the laws in your country.
Hey Tuco, is there a way to get a hold of you to talk more about your 1858 setup than RUclips will allow?
Check out my Rumble channel.
@tucotheratt what are your thoughts on the standard manufacturing saa?
I saw a couple of videos breaking one down. The ejection housing is screwed right to the barrel like a cheap Uberti. The action appeared to be corse. I think they are way overpriced.
Do the Great Westerns have larger style grips? I'd love to get a single action but I have large hands and some grips seem too small for me.
No, they have the original Colt 1873 size grips
Hey tuco! Just wondering how come you prefer pietta instead of colt? Is there a difference?
Colt quality is all over the place and they are way over priced. Pietta's GW2 are at least as good and replacement parts are consistently high quality and affordable imo.
Hey Tuco, I'm new to the Italian clothes but I'm picking up what you're laying down about Pieta's guts being stronger than Uberti.
I kinda dig the octagon barrel on the El Malo. Is it as strong as the other Pietta's?
I only shoot a couple or 300 rounds per month and no fanning.
In your opinion do you think I'd be good to go with the El Malo?
I don't have an El Malo. If it's part of the GW2 line the insides are identical.
I have several .45's and yes that's my favorite, Colt 2nd gen and 3 Rugers.
But if you're lookin on Davidsons check this UPC 814230101358,
Pietta made Cimarron El Malo 2.
My LGS $599.+ UNCLE SAMS PART....( So they can send it overseas for gender understanding on frogs or maby house more aliens). But don't get me started.
Do you offer services to make race guns, or do you know of a good service that will make a race gun? I would love to have a single action revolver that would hold up to fanning the hammer and things like that.
No. Sorry.
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Would you be confident carrying a SA Revolver for self defense? Do you? Or do you carry something else?
No I wouldn't carry an SAA. They are for fun only. I carry a Sig 320
Now the real question, when are you going to start building race guns for people, and how much $? Because at some point in the not too far off future I'd definitely be interested in purchasing a custom Tuco race gun if it were possible.
Thanks for the nice comment. No I don't, and will never build race guns for other people or sell my guns. Just too many legal problems with that.
For all the time I spent with him as a kid while he was working on guns I didn't retain a bit of the knowledge 😆🤷♂️
next time u build one can u do a tutorial there is not much online or a set by step video on it anywhere
you need to pay attention and watch my entire video
@@TUCOtheratt i have and i think it’s great i understand the mods u have to do to the gun i was just saying a full build video to show visually how its done would be pretty cool didn’t mean any offence
@@bobsburgers2071 no. you didn't watch this entire video and follow my suggestion
@@TUCOtheratt alright mate 👍
Your top choice is Pietta, yet you carry and customize the Uberti????
I do videos with many different guns. My customized Uberti will outperform any stock SAA including Pietta. However stock for stock or race gun for race gun. Pietta's performance beats Uberti's
Hey Tuco what do you think of the heritage rough rider?
Junk
Thank you!
What do you think of single action replica Colt air guns
Never touched one
@@TUCOtheratt i heard that umarex makes a good replica (chambered in .177)
Thanks for the info. I want to get some single action cowboy guns. Would like one to be able to be fanned. Is there a downside to a race gun for plinking type use?
No. With a properly tuned race gun, slow fire accuracy/operation is great too.
@@TUCOtheratt Thanks for the feedback.
@@TUCOtheratt Thanks. So the next obvious question is where does on purchase a quality racegun? I know I can’t do it myself. Can a Schofield be made into a racegun?
@@joeleonetti8976 There is no manufacturer of SAA race guns. All of them are customized from stock SAAs.
Here’s a question: Tuco…the Ratt???
Like your vids, though.
Hi @TUCOtheratt, where do you get your clothes from?
Different western where stores.
Any help you can give me would be very appreciated. i know theres a big difference in how they work, but is there any advice you can give me on how to prevent the cyclender from over rotating during my follow up shots
