- Episode 13 - We've travelled to well over 100 countries but we've never been to or even seen anywhere like the Mangystau desert in Kazakhstan. Navigating this area was a real challenge and once we arrived we were quite literally blown away by just how vast and wild it was. This episode is filled with uncertainty, challenges, and some of the most incredible landscapes on earth. All the ingredients for an epic adventure!
If you'd like to know more about us, Project Wild Earth, and how this all came about, click here: projectwildear... For our journey, we are driving Jane, our INEOS Grenadier, and live in a Patriot X3 Trailer so we can travel off-road to remote locations and be off-grid for long periods of time.
Thank you for coming along on our journey!

wow...what an incredible landscape
What an incredible journey! Overlanding is all about embracing the unknown, and you captured every moment of it perfectly - from the stunning scenery to the thrill of off-roading. This video stirred something deep inside me. Your channel is a must-follow for any adventure seeker!
Thanks so much for the kind words. We try our best and always feel we can do a better job but with having two young kids with us it’s very much a balance - with our priority being them of course. 😊 We’re glad this struck a chord deep inside, that’s one of things we’re trying to do here with our storytelling. We’re complete amateurs but learning all the time!
Amazing views. Thank's. The Grenadier also looks like performed very well
No issues at all. 👌
Thank you so much for sharing and showing us just how beautiful this rock that we live on is!
@@reynhardttheron6901 No problem at all, thanks so much in taking an interest and following along on our journey. There’s still plenty more to come!
Wonderful channel, really good for the soul. And camera work .... OMG.
Thanks Mark! We really appreciate these comments and are glad you’re enjoying our channel! There’s nothing better for the soul than being out in nature. 🌲 😊
LOVE the channel - simply amazing and inspiring.
Hi Anti thanks for the kind words. Welcome aboard! 😊
Fantastic - in every way!
Thanks Paul! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed watching!
Stunning scenery thankyou for sharing 👌
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen! More coming soon!
Wow guys! Your are incredibly brave! :)
We just want to make the most of the opportunity we have here. You only live once, we take calculated risks based on our experience and all the information we can gather. Most of the time it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t! 😂 We try our best to be prepared for worse case scenario and if we’re ok with that, then we can go for it.
Beyond Epic 😮
It certainly was! 😎 Well worth a visit if you get the chance!
Fantastic video.
@@1blackbridge Glad you enjoyed it Richie!
Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing 😍
Good to hear! No problem at all. Plenty more to come, we’re still quite a way behind!
Totally amazing adventure!!
Definitely a window of opportunity we’re very appreciative of and trying to make the absolute best of it! 🙏
It's Amazing, crazy view. And youngest baby is walking pretty better than when you started trip.
@@SjYang-pk6cc This part of the world does indeed have some crazy views! As for our kids, they’re both very much walking, talking, hiking, biking, digging, climbing etc now… Charlotte actually found flat ground a little tricky at first, which is hard to wrap your head around, as she’s so used to the rocks and uneven ground! 😂
Your videos are a joy to watch, with great natural scenery, a young couple exploring it, and cute babies growing up among them.
@@SjYang-pk6cc Thanks so much Sj! Our plan is to be respectful of people’s time and just show what an amazing planet it is that we all live on. Hopefully we can all do our little bit to keep it that way for future generations. 🌍 😊 🙏
Wonderful photography and such beautiful scenery. Amazing!
Nature has done most of the work here! We’ve just done our best to bring you along for the ride! 😊 Glad you enjoyed this one.
Epic vid guys, looking forward to seeing the next one.
@@hubbsywubbsy Cheers Hubbs! We took a bit of a gamble for the next one… 😉
You’ve just taken me to such a beautiful place. Thank you for all you do Matt and Leah. ❤
@@stevejoung4711 That’s the beauty of RUclips and modern day technology, it allows anyone to come along for the ride and see just how amazing and beautiful our planet really is. 😎 Glad you’re enjoying the journey!
Sooo good❤
That it was. 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video! Plenty more to come…
This both awesome and beautiful mate!
Cheers Matt, glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Just discovered your channel. Gonna go back and watch the rest to get caught up and then follow along on your adventure!
Welcome! We hope you enjoy following along on our journey. We're a little behind with the videos and social but plan to catch up fairly soon! Let us know what you think once you're up to speed. 😊
@@projectwildearth I got caught up! I binged watched them all with my dad haha. We both love your channel.
I went to Norway several years ago so was really fun seeing those videos and re-living my own adventure.
Romania really impressed me! I had no idea it looked like that. Reminds me of Wyoming and Montana in the US with the forests, mountains and all the big wildlife.
I also like the locals you interview with their various environmental projects.
Good effort! Cool that you watched it all with your Dad too!
We hope to get our next one out in the not to distant future and have a feeling you may like it as we go somewhere that many don’t… 😉
That was soul soothing! Hope you enjoyed your stay in Kazakhstan
Glad you enjoyed it so much and had a connection on a deeper level. We loved our time in Kazakhstan and will no doubt be back again! 🇰🇿
@@projectwildearth Mangystau has been on my list for many years . I feel embarrassed that i had not been able to visit it even though i live in Kazakhstan. Please let me know if you come to Almaty region. I know a place or two where you might not want to skip.
Thank you for this video. Absolutely inspiring.
You’re welcome! Worth the trip or you get the chance!
Think it is a little while since your last post, as before, extremely interesting.
@@brucelumsden94 Indeed it is! We’ve been in Central Asia through the Stans. Where we were, there’s pretty much no signal. It’s not much better now but we’re slowly catching up! Much more to come!
Such an awesome video. This part of Kazakhstan reminded me of the Navajo Nation / Monument Valley Arizona.
We were thinking it had a bit of an Arizona vibe to it. Incredible place that’s for sure. We spent a fair amount of time here, the main challenge by far was the wind at night! Once you’ve cracked that, it’s truly a very special place.
Insanely good landscapes
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it! Like you say, the landscapes in this part of Kazakhstan are out of this world! We really loved it! Great for a family too as the kids can just run wild!
amazing video guys. a question. from where did you get the patriot trailer here in europe?
Glad you enjoyed it Ronny! We imported the X3 into the U.K. from Australia.
@@projectwildearth ok, did you changed the brakes or could you found a solution with the Electronic brakes? Normally These brakes forbidden here
The footage starting at 11.20 onwards has to be one of the dramatic video/drone shots I have seen for some time.
Thanks Jeremey. Slowly but surely we're getting a little better each time. This one is definitely a good one to escape and relax to the music and visuals. We couldn't believe what we were actually witnessing in some of these areas. Truly breathtaking!
@@projectwildearth also good to see the Grenadier being used for what it was designed for. Mine is mainly used on road.
@@jeremymurfitt1512 Exactly the reason we bought it. Our trip has been about 70% off-road so far so we’re very happy with our choice and the slight leap of faith with it being one of the first.
Hi, I just came across your channel. Amazing adventure!
I have a quick question: you tow a Patriot Camper. Do you use its famous DO35 coupling? Is it legal in the UK/UE? How about the electric brakes?
Regards and good luck!
Hi Marcin! Glad you’re enjoying the adventure. To answer your question, yes, we do tow a Patriot X3 with the DO35 coupling.
We can’t give any legal advice and so would suggest to do your own research on the legalities and regulations in each region around the world. Sorry we can’t be of more help in this respect.
@@projectwildearth Thank you anyway, lots of luck!
It looks like Utah's Moonscape Overlook area.
Some of it definitely reminded us of Utah! Having all these landscapes in such a small area (relatively) was what really blew us away!
My question is only.... Since Grenadier not so good with fuel comsumption, so how did you managed for refuel?
We do have to be careful from a range perspective with the Grenadier and trailer, especially if there’s a lot of challenging off road sections.
With this in mind, we have the capacity to take an extra 90L with two Jerry cans and three Giant Loop Armadillo bags. This has worked for us so far.
Our plan going forward will be to revert to just Jerry cans as we’ve found the Giant Loop Armadillo bags to not be up to the job. They leak and are not suitable for what we’re doing or any sort of overland travel in our opinion.
@@projectwildearth than you for enlightenment.
@@diepieche No worries!
I've noticed that your RUclips channel is growing really well, but it could grow even more if you use better thumbnails. I can make thumbnails for you for just $10 each, like this one.
What a sad video...Not even a tree...Almost a dead nature!Did you understand why this country is in such desperate environmental situation?
