- Episode 9 - We were heading to Europe’s first major Wild River National Park but we had a few challenges along the way. Despite the weather, we headed back up into the mountains again too!
The story of Vjosa’s struggle to stay wild has been ongoing for well over a decade, it has been threatened by over 30 proposed dam projects which would flood some areas while leaving others dry. By becoming a National Park these dam projects have come to a halt. It marks a significant step towards the conservation and protection of this pristine river ecosystem a huge win for those working to protect it.
It was clear to us that Vjosa is much more than just a river that flows through these mountains and valleys. It’s the heart of this vast ecosystem which provides water, food and so much more to the people that live along her waters. The Vjosa story is a true testament to the power of people coming together for a common goal. We would never see rivers the same way after our time along the Vjosa. If you'd like to know more about us, Project Wild Earth, The Projects and how this all came about, click here: projectwildear... For our journey, we are driving Jane, our INEOS Grenadier, and live in a Patriot X3 Trailer so we can travel off-road to remote locations and be off-grid for long periods of time.
Thank you for coming along on our journey!

Love to see you are feeling better 💕
Thanks Julie! It was pretty miserable at the time but we’re all good now! Fighting fit and raring to go! 😎
well done. nicely told and presented.
Thanks so much for your kind comment! We really appreciate it! 🙏 😊
Wonderful. Thank you!
We are eyeing off Albania. One day perhaps.
Glad you enjoyed it! As for Albania, there’s a lot to see and do and some real hidden gems if you have the time!
As always I look forward to your videos. Another great adventure and project. The first scratch is the hardest, but in the end they are just as you say - Stories and memories.
We’re glad we didn’t disappoint with the latest episode! As for scratches, we’ve always seen them as stories and memories. It’s what life is all about at the end of the day. 😊
Nice video. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the nice comment! 👍😊
Whenever you guys have chance...come and visit the US. Maybe even attempting the Pan-America highway.
The Americas will be the last phase of the journey... 😉 projectwildearth.com/route
We loved that one keep them coming please
Great to hear, thanks for the comment Graham! The project videos take a lot more time but we hope in the long run will be worth it! 😊
Good ❤
We’re glad you enjoyed it!
I am always amazed following your stories- so professional cut and narrative and this time you entered into sustainability from a local point of view. I did spent a week Offroad on the motorcycle and I can confirm it I is easy to get lost in Albania - it was dark, heavy rain, no food, no water and at the end no fuel 😂
Thanks so much for the kind comment and for following along with our journey! We’re glad you appreciate what we’re doing and the work that goes into it behind the scenes.
Each project we support will be slightly different so that we’re not repeating ourselves but we do hope to communicate some common themes throughout as we believe that’s important. We will cover projects you don’t hear much about, the positive and inspiring side of things that can be used as a blueprint by others around the world to show that it’s not all doom and gloom! There’s a lot of amazing people doing amazing things and we want the world to know about it.
This is just our way to do our little bit to shine a light on those that are doing the hard work on the ground to protect what we all love for generations to come!
As for Albania off-road, it definitely has its challenges but it’s all part of the fun! We’re not sure when you went but we can report there’s plenty of food, water and fuel now. 😊 You do have to plan a little conservatively and maybe not always choose the “most interesting route” but we guess that goes for anywhere that’s a little remote and unpredictable! (Which will apply to almost all of the places along our route)
You are a so lovely family and I can sense that you are giving back to all of us. Indeed I was driving from Gijrokaster to Pogradec in off road and of course along the Vjosa river and I did recognize some of the bridges you did cross. And from Pogradec to Tirana we found a very challenging road but it was already end of October and it turned out to be foggy and very rainy in the mountains - and of course we got lost and it took us 8 hours to go back to the tarmac at 10pm - we saw only some shepards, a bear a wolf😅 . Luckily I was not alone and at the end it we all made it and had a rest day in Tirana. Yes, Albania is a very beautiful country with very pleasant people.
@@patpie3703 The weather can certainly be changeable in that area. We were operating in a pretty tight weather window as always 😂 Glad to hear you got out ok despite your challenges! It makes for a great story in the bar afterwards! 🍻
Very nice video😍
@@PajeroLand Hi Sead! Glad you enjoyed the video!
