This new generation of nu-metal reminds me a lot of when Thrash had a comeback in the middle 2000's. Had that energy and that feeling but just never stuck per se (Municipal Waste, Havok, etc)... good bands with few memorable songs and just retreading old waters. That said, I enjoyed this release and was really looking forward to it! Only gripe is that the best tracks were the last two, and they were so short. "As We Know It" was phenomenal and I wish there were more songs like it (albeit longer ones). Very excited for the future of this band, I think their next album is going to be HUGE
Yeah I noticed for some reason the last few tracks were very short I don't know if it was intentional but I get what you mean they were pretty good ones
Nice review John! I knew of the band but didn't check them out until I saw Hector's review, and I really dug what I heard! There's no escaping the fact they sound like Slipknot, some of the riffs are similar and of course Griffin is going to sound like his dad (hearing him is like going back 20 years to Iowa sounding Corey). But there are differences, to me they sound heavier with a modern extreme Metal sound. In a way I feel like this is what Slipknot could have been in an alternate timeline. It doesn't sound like Nu Metal to me (if so I've been missing out), it sounds much heavier than that, with more Extreme Metal influences like you said. Definitely has some Groove like Slipknot has. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but what I have I'm really impressed 😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
Vended is good but Dregg is 10 time better and sound more original And have a new album next month there 1st album 🙌 And i'm loving the new resurgence of nu metal, This is what I grew up with in the 90s and early 2000s, Bringing aggression back to metal

This kind of stuff has been coming back for a while now. Check out the song "Serpentine" by Purity from 2021.

Nu metal has been slowly creeping back. It is a solid album. But they do sound like early Slipknot.
Yes I noticed it's coming back but this new generation doesn't sound exactly like the first generation.
Trends recycle every 20 years or so…
