    you can totally cheese umbral form: You can enter into objects (including wall) and end your turn inside. You'll take 5 damage per turn but you'll be basically immune to all other damage. On your turn you float out, launch your spells and then just float right back in...

    • @Sparkle5fanboy
      @Sparkle5fanboy 5 лет назад +4

      I see your umbral form and raise you a free mount. Play as a Halfling and ride the beast closer towards the targeted creature. This is great is chases as you can run up besides them and cast hold person on them giving them disadvantage on the save.

    • @rafaelcastor2089
      @rafaelcastor2089 5 лет назад +3

      Not necessarily since someone might try to destroy the object and then damaging you afterwards. A wall of stone for example has 30 hit-points and an AC of 15, a fighter or a paladin could easily bring down something like this and damage you afterwards, especially the paladin who gets radiant damage + force damage via smites and that could make you go down real easy. The DM might even rule, and it would kind of make sense, that exceding damage the object takes goes directly to you afterwards. In either cases while you're still mitigating a lot of damage, it isn't really a "you are immune to all damage besides the 5 you take for being inside an object".

    • @Sparkle5fanboy
      @Sparkle5fanboy 5 лет назад +1

      @@rafaelcastor2089 That would be hilarious. Thank you, Now I''m just imagining a halfling "Not lets catch up to that troll" hops on a shadow hound and starts chasing it before the troll goes over a wall and the dog goes straight through it while the halfing falls off.

    another combo for hound of ill omen- the hold spells. The hound makes all of the saves at a disadvantage not just the first one and when paralyzed the target gets auto critted from your hound.

    I had a half orc Shadocerer ready before this vid and I can’t wait to go down twice without death. Control flame is a great cantrip for shadow btw, most dungeons and buildings are lit by torch sconce or brazier. It’s not as good as darkness but it’s free.

    One fun combo is to combine umbral sight with darkness cast via sorc. points and a cloak of the bat.
    You can cast darkness on yourself, and then immediately gain a flying speed of 40 ft that travels with you. Any attacks against you have disadvantage and any you make have advantage, all because they can't see you. It makes dive-bombing enemies a viable tactic, and it's seriously good battlefield mobility not a lot of other casters get at will like that.

      Blindness/Deafness does a great job shutting down enemy casters. Cast it on an enemy spellcaster while your Hound of Ill Omen is next to him, and he'll have a harder time passing the Constitution Save. It's not concentration either, so you can use it while concentrating on another spell, including concentrating on Bane to make your target have even more difficulty succeeding the saving throw against Blindness/Deafness.
      If you look at all of the spells in D&D 5e, most of them require you to see your target. And if the enemy spell caster can't see .... he can't use any of those spells that require you to see your target.

    9.48 "Your average monster doesn't have very good saving throws...because they don't get their proficiency bonus added on"
    I don't understand. My rulebook says: "A saving throw bonus is the sum of a monster’s relevant ability modifier and its proficiency bonus, which is determined by the monster’s challenge rating (as shown in the Proficiency Bonus by Challenge Rating table)."
    I understood that as meaning, that monsters ALWAYS get their proficiency bonus added on, starting at +2 for the lowest 1/8 CR mobs....

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад +4

      Look at an adult silver dragon, its save entrys are dex, con, wis and cha. (CR16 +5 prof) once you add the ability score mods then the numbers fit right. so why does it not have str or int saves listed? pit fiend has cr 20, +6 prof. run the numbers, they match right. why would a goblin have proficiency in every save? I doubt it would. I thinks it's just wizards and their poor wording. proficency may be nessacary for attacks and skills and some special abilities but for basic creatures the saves don't get proficency from what I can see. this is why they have included the table, for skills and stuff. but only special or tough creatures get a save entry in their description.

    Nice in depth analysis as always. watching this got me to wondering...
    I have recently watched "The Crow" and after which I wonder if you would use this Shadow Sorcerer and Raven Queen Warlock multi-class to make the character?
    Or more directly, how would you build "The Crow" in D&D 5e?...my thoughts are either Rogue Asasin3/Raven Queen Blade pact warlock, or maybe the Shadow sorcerer/Raven Queen Warlock?

    • @thefracturedbutwhole5475
      @thefracturedbutwhole5475 4 года назад +1

      The hound only lasts for 5 minutes and can only move towards it's target by the most direct route, there is no reason a small creature could not ride the hound but the only control you would have is where it appears when you summon it and who it chases and attacks . . . . The hound can only use its action to attack its target, it can't dash, dodge, disengage, hide or help so even a small creature could keep up with it if they use their action to dash.
      also, you would want to be mindful of where and when you summon it since it has the ability to move through another creatures space and takes the most direct route towards its target you don't want it (or you if you're riding it) taking a bunch of opportunity attacks and getting destroyed before it can reach its target.

      The main use of the hound of ill omen is that it's a superior heightened spell metamagic as it forces disadvantage on multiple saves. The hound's attack is a nice bonus, but you're using it wrong if you don't utilise that massive buff to your save or suck spells.
