    this was an excellent analysis. I have never heard anyone say that wild magic was better, so this was a refreshing opinion.

    I think you missed out on a big point about draconic wings: its concentration free flight and concentration is a HUGE resource in 5e

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад +2

      Someone else mentioned that, maybe you're right but still it's not enough of a selling point to redeem draconic compared to the other cool stuff in other origins.

      Broom of Flying. There’s obviously no guarantee you’ll get one, but I’ve seen one show up within the first session or two of two different campaigns this year.

      Sorcerers are so used to paying hand over fist for class abilities that when they get something for free it blows their minds

    Draconic resilience effectively gives the sorcerer a d8 hit die when leveling up. That's not insignificant

    I agree with nearly everything you said apart from about Dragon Wings on the Draconic Sorcerer. Yes you can fly with a 3rd level spell, however, it has plenty of advantages.
    1) It's free, your saving yourself a 3rd level spell or 3 sorcerer points,
    2) it doesn't require CONCENTRATION which in this edition is huge, at high levels it open up some many more spells.
    3) It's activated with a bonus action meaning you can activate it and still cast a spell on that turn

      @johnathoncrines3198 6 лет назад

      TheWelshWarrior plus you are one of the only Core character classes who can cast haste and fly and mage armor at the same time spending only a single spell slot. And you can concentrate on stuff mid air like protection from energy, which is way handy against say dragons, angels, fiends, genies, elementals and other shit you fight at 14th level. The dragon sorcerer approaches the kind of insane "spells for days" power that casters used to have during 3.5.

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      A couple of good points made by both of you, though i'd suggest if you need flight for battle purposes then you're party will probably need it too, so it's probably something better to cast with a higher slot for party benefit. the concentration point is excellent, I'd say it's the strongest benefit of the ability and if you really need it as a bonus action then you've always got quicken spell. Still, it's good to debate these things. Thanks for your input guys.

    I think of bend luck like this. Yes it's 2 sorcery points, but 2 SP will get you a 1st level spell slot, and Bless/Bane on the cleric list is a 1st level spell. It's basically letting you cast a single target, non resistible bane or bless on someone.

  • @Jessterr2

    Fighters and Barbarians are usually terrible at Intimidation as they usually dumpstat Charisma. I think intimidation, since it uses words to make threats, makes more sense in the hands of the Sorcerer than anyone else. A magical being of chaos incarnate is already pretty frightening to most non-magical peasants.
    Persuasion and Deception are both great and neither are situational. When you can't use persuasion you can usually use deception and vise-versa. My advice is to pick up either both or whichever the party doesn't have. To be honest if I only had Arcana, Deception, Intimidate and Persuasion then I'd be quite happy... but there are a lot of charisma classes so like someone else will pick up one of these.
    If the fighter or barbarian do pick up intimidate then its easy to let them have it. I like intimidation because I use it to make verbal threats (Showing someone how strong you are only shows them than you are strong.. so... good?)... But if the fighter really feels like that is in his domain then let them have it.

    If in doubt be a Wild Magic Sorcerer its a laugh its the kind of dumb fluff I love, I enjoy Orks in 40K though and they are all about that chaos especially with Meks and Weirdboyz.

      True that, funny though, My favourite classes are always spell casters but my 40K force is Dark Eldar, who don't have any sorcery. Odd. :)

    • @jerseydragon8233
      @jerseydragon8233 6 лет назад

      That is the only downside. You can get an AWESOME DM, or one who never ask you to roll.

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      We alternate, I know someone who takes a great deal of pleasure in such things thinking he'll get one over on spellslingers. You could say to your DM, "WMS check as standard per cast?" If they agree then your golden! After a tide of chaos advantage prompt for a roll next time you cast.

    • @Dragonlordofthunder
      @Dragonlordofthunder 6 лет назад

      We house ruled WMS to be that it procs at a higher range if the spell is a higher level and/or using metamagic. Therefore a quickened empowered fireball will proc on a 1-5( 2 meta magics + 3rd level spell) on a d20 rather than just 1. This makes the Wild mage alot more wild imo.

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      That's probably the best house rule i ever heard for 5e. It makes a lot of sense to do it that way. more bang, more backlash!

    • @blakebrockhaus347
      @blakebrockhaus347 6 лет назад

      Jewkey Bones personally I would do 1/2 spell lvl rounded down, because the wild magic table while mostly harmless is still a risk. This doesn't put higher lvl spells in the "almost never cast" category

    My bard took levels in sorcerer because at the beginning i was looking for attack options. To multiclass in my game there must be a good reason. Because in the game he runs dragons are extinct and neither of us had the xanathar guide so he told me i could do wild mage. At first everyone freaked out. So far the choas has offset my surges. The others love the randomness. Especially when his hair fell out.

    Thanks, bard. That was great. You opened my eyes to the wild mage sorcerer. I also look forward to your thoughts on my favorite archetype, storm sorcerer. Thanks again.
    Funny thing: I tended to avoid the draconic sorcerer because I always believed that the natural armor meant your skin was partially scaly and dragon wings were demonic looking and ugly. (Not beautiful feathered wings like angels) Lol. Do you have any ideas for increasing a sorcerer's magical versatility or utility?

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      Ritual caster: Wizard spell list; is vital if you are the primary arcane spellcaster.

  • @shadeseba599
    @shadeseba599 6 лет назад +1

    I have a request, how about a build for an aasimar scourge divine soul or sun soul monk, the idea is a being of light doing range radiant damage. It could be protector and be flying while radiant and/or fire blasting. Like an angel/agent of the sun or fire. I made and tryied some builds but never got it right to a point of being proud of it.

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      I'll look into it, "A light doing damage?" Sounds like the old Lantern Archons from before.

    As far as metamagic goes, how does Haste and Quickened Spell work? Is it: Haste + additional action + bonus action

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      Meta magic quicken + haste gives you a faster cast so you can still get a "regular action + Haste action" on the turn you cast it since quicken is a bonus action.
      Extend is good for twice the duration.
      Twinned Spell is Great because 2 creatures can be hasted.
      The normal effect remains "Action+Bonus+Haste action" in the following turns.

    • @xvader9445
      @xvader9445 6 лет назад

      Can you twin a concentration spell

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      Well, the description says you 'target' another creature with the 'same' spell. So it's one spell and hence one concentration so yeah, I guess you can, it's not two seperate spells.

  • @leanbow4807
    @leanbow4807 6 лет назад

    I was making a valor bard and I when I went to pick spells I noticed that you could make a Assassin using the spells without needing the campaign to be a long drawn out thing. Is this what you were referring to in your rouge archetype video? Also hope your having a good day

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      Hey L.B. You okay? sorry, i'm not sure what your asking. In rogue I thing I was saying the assassins main mid level effects were more about RP than mechanical usefulness. You could build and assassin in another form but spells and effects would generally be faster for the purpose rather than establishing certain things over time. since the assassins abilities are more involved in those respects they are better suited to longer, intrigue based campaigns.

    • @leanbow4807
      @leanbow4807 6 лет назад

      I'm doing okay D.B (Don't go jumping out of airplanes with a bag of money now) I just remembered that out of the three core archetypes the assassin was your least favorite due to it's abilities being geared to long drawn out social/political campaigns so when I was making a random character everything decided by dice I rolled valor bard and the cantrip minor illusion struck me as great for an assassin character. Hope your day is going good and your staying warm

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      Glad to hear you are okay, Assassin isn't terrible, it's just not really on par with the other archetypes and seems to require the right set-up or situations in my opinion.

    • @leanbow4807
      @leanbow4807 6 лет назад

      Fair Enough and it does seem more like a class best suited for a
      three level dip instead of a full thing like Thief as I don't really care for Arcane Trickster due to the low level spell slots

    • @leanbow4807
      @leanbow4807 6 лет назад

      makes it hard to pull off my idea of a Arcane Trickster that uses illusions and like you said if your fighting a wizard and they aren't casting meteor swarm they aren't doing it right which makes spell thief useless

  • @krypsiematthews1027
    @krypsiematthews1027 6 лет назад

    Wild Magic is terrible as it's extremely DM dependent. If your DM doesn't want to play along with wild magic, it's no fun. I played one, and the 4 times I ever rolled on the table they were great buffs, but they came at a terrible time when I couldn't use them. Wild Magic also has very little chance of popping up. If you have 7 spell slots, you're getting an average of one roll on the table every 3 long rests. That's extremely uncommon. I asked my DM if I could also have cantrips have me roll on the table and in the 7 or 8 sessions I only rolled 4 times! I became the laughing stock of the whole table because of my character because he was a gnome as well as a wild magic sorcerer. My experience with wild magic is so bad that it caused me to quit dnd for 3 months. Don't make the same mistake I did. Ignore wild magic.

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      While i respect your experience, from what you have written it sounds like the class is not really the problem. Wild magic is going to create some humorous results occasionally but we need to be prepared for that. Yes it is DM dependent , however if you undertake WM then he/she should be invested in it enough to create a good gaming experience for you. I am sorry too hear how your other players have treated you but I would respectfully suggest that is something you need to address with them. It's not really the fault of the class or it's mechanics. If wild surges happened more often then to much attention would be given to the sorcerer players.

  • @lucasupright

    I hate analytical reviews like this. You have completely ignored 1/2 of what makes this game great: ROLEPLAY. Not all skills/spells/feats should be about what makes you the most powerful or gives you the best advantage. That type of gaming ruins the game. Thank you for taking the time for making this video, just wish you would consider what makes a character fun not just optimal.

    • @DrowBard
      @DrowBard  6 лет назад

      I see your point, but don't judge the subscribers too harshly, some of them asked for an analysis and that's what I delivered. I cover alot of aspects of the game, not just the numbers. Maybe you'd like the series I started on role playing philosophy?
