    Found this after getting nioh 2 today (ty ps+) and wow. You not only went in depth while keeping it simplistic, you made it incredibly difficult for me to decide what to use 🤣 sword, tonfa, fists, switchglaive and dual swords all seem right up my alley

    Splitstaff is definitely harder to grasp, especially knowing what attacks are worth extending and which aren't. I was suprised to see the ammount of damage and ki damage I could deal once I started practicing with it. Its one of those weapons that makes me feel bad for the enemy. Even the flash attack to splitstaff is like giving your foe the middle finger.

Afterwards you unlock the depths, and the depths are unforgiving, you need combos, good stats and equipment if you wanna complete them. It's hell afterall.

    The combat in Nioh is so fun

  • @GobiSubramaniam
    @GobiSubramaniam 10 месяцев назад +2

    Weapons in Nioh comes in three category - close combat, medium range combat and long-range combat. Swords are medium, tonfa is close and odaichi and spears are long range. The way I see them is how far the reach they have to the enemy - one arm's distance (which is what a sword is) is usually means medium distance. Anything that puts you directly in the face of your opponent like a tonfa is a close range.
    This is why you should always have a powerful odaichi with you. The lenght is about twice that of a sword which means you can hit once or twice and dodge out of the way. At least, that's my formula.

    One thing that the game doesn’t tell you is that yokai don’t flinch as easily as humans. That makes short ranged weapons like fists and claws hard to use for beginners like me because you need to be at point blank range to deal damage.
    It’s easy to stun lock human enemies with a barrage of attacks, but at the start of the game when you barely have any skills, you will basically poke and run at bigger yokai. That’s obviously going to be easier if your weapon is a spear, odachi or anything with a long reach.

    Personal tier list based off of overall weapon versatility, ease-of-use in any combat scenario, as well as considering how easy it is to find drops:
    S
    Sword, Spear
    A
    Odachi, Switchglaive, Dual Swords
    B
    Fists/Claws, Hatchets, Tonfa
    C
    Axe/Hammer, Kusarigama
    Defined
    S - You will never have issues finding revenants to farm with these weapons, boss battles feel almost designed around someone having these weapons, the skillsets are easy to grasp with a high skill ceiling.
    A - You will find plentiful revenants with these weapons, boss battles feel fairly easy and approachable, the skillsets require just a touch more focus on combo potential and good ki pulses.
    B - You will find less revenants with these weapons, boss fights feel a little more challenging/engaging, the skillsets require a better understanding of flux and ki pulses.
    C - You will find very few revenants with these weapons, boss fights are a fair challenge with making sure you use the right skills as to not get stuck in either animations or loops, you will need a good base in ki management and not overdoing yourself, fights become higher risk/reward with either predictions or trades in mind.
    The moment you hit NG tier lists become null because of set bonuses and divine gear. These differences are *very* nuanced.

    For fisting Yokai I use the reckless charge to climb in their ass then press Y/Triangle to do the bonus attack that comes with it. You take reduced damage and gain poise during the charge, you can also chain it if things go well. Then you just keep the pressure on till thier poise beeaks then hit them with the high stance Fists of Reckoning.

    This is a succinct, well-made video that ironically was _no_ help in getting me to pick a weapon. I was already stuck between Tonfa, Fists, Switchglaive, Hatchets, and Odachi, but now you convinced me that Sword is cool instead of boring, and that I could make Splitstaff work if I put in the effort! And even then, I'd probably be happy with anything except Kusarigama (because it was my Nioh 1 main weapon) or Dual Swords (because boring).
    In the interests of not burning out again (by playing the first couple of missions over and over testing out weapons), I've resolved to pick only two and stick with them...but even then I'm stuck between tonfa/switchglaive, fist/staff, or any/hatchets... 😖

      Fists are absolutely fucking nuts. I'm only back in the game now after finding this channel and deciding to hop back in but if you got your hands on Fists that have purity, you could literally permastun enemies because of the stagger attacks fists has combined with purity debuffing stamina and the fact that on any enemy that has a breakable horn, there's the high stance axe kick which would break the horn, so you can get it, break the horn for a stagger, go absolutely nuts in low form to apply purity and then use the rapid punching attack skill to just fucking wail on them.
      Switchglaive also has the same potential with high stance attacks and cyclone plus the skill swapping. I use both of them and go nuts

    1.) Stances have different moves that I can freely pick
    2.) Your combos are incomplete until you unlock the finishers.

  • @ethandonnelly1973
    @ethandonnelly1973 2 года назад +2

    Oh fists aren't hard on Ki at all.
    The thing about it is, the core skill you have is rising gale, which is a Ki pulse attack that also palm strikes/body blows the opponent, so you can like, pop off techniques and inbetween, get another hit in that staggers some ememies and does a bit of damage while recovering some ki. If you burn through all of your Ki then you can use a soul core attack to continue hitting while letting your Ki recharge, and then go right back into it
    It's also a fantastic weapon against Yokai, particularly horned yokai, if you get access shugendo gauntlets that have purity (Or any purity gauntlets) because they debuff stamina. So on horned yokai you can high kick to initiate and break their horn, Rising gale into another stance, wail on them with a fast skill like kick cycle to apply purity, and then go ham with the highest damage combo you have, Soul coring them in between
    Putting all of this together you can basically stunlock the hell outta enemies. I remember getting access to(or trying out) purity gauntlets just before I fought Sukuna.
    That fight was over in like a minute, Purity got applied and he got absolutely destroyed

    Though I have yet to understand the full scope of Nioh's combat system to make full use of their mechanics
    It's actually the first game where I have to actively learn how to use a skill tree
    I'm so happy I picked the hatchets, I love weapons that have nuances to how it works, the Odachi too, was thinking I was stuck with slow attacks.

    with the Odachi i try to build around the stance switching mechanic abilities to ensure i can constantly flux between stances for the consistent damage and i fel it can be rather quick but it really feels amazing for crowd control and using its parries. though i plan to learn and work on mastering the fists due to the speed they tend to have. but yes they tend to be lower damage than most weapons but with the speed at which it attacks that rapid chipping damage adds up to devatating effects

    • @youradhere3476
      @youradhere3476 3 года назад +5

      With some abilities, yeah the animation lock can absolutely get you killed. One trick is knowing which abilities stun humans or can reliably break yokai horns - if an ability locks you in place for 1.5 seconds but it also stuns your opponent for the entire duration it's a win. Some abilities, like splitstaff's dragon dance, usually misses against smaller enemies and takes forever to wind up and can be interrupted mid-way by attacks from bigger enemies and bosses, but if you get a window to safely and accurately unload on a target it rips ass. It took me a while to figure out its intended use case but now when get to pull it off it usually means i've won that fight.
      I just got into NG+, used splitstaff and odachi mainly with a bit of spear and hatchets - so far it feels like almost every ability has at least some situational use.

Monster Hunter requires you to be much more deliberate in your button presses, lest you get locked into an animation and instantly killed by an elder dragon. They're both fantastic games in their own ways, but they play completely differently to one another. You don't have to respect one and hate the other. It's okay to enjoy more than one game, you know that right? Monster Hunter isn't "trying to be" anything but Monster Hunter. Climb off it m8.

    Baked? :D Good breakdown though, feels like you showed the important stuff while still keeping the pace. I got a clear picture of all the weapons now, problem is, pretty much everything is appealing.. I'll just go with fists / axe for now I think. I played the first one on PS4, from what I remember I used the Odachi and Kusarigama in that game.

      I had the same issue until I finally bunkered down and just pushed through the game. Once you clear vet dojo you can use whatever weapons you want. I tend to abuse flash attack and keep switching between my two weapon slots based on the situation. One of my favorite setups is doing god of wind 3 into odachi or splitstaff flash attack. Against humans its absolutely abusive, and vs yokai its equally nasty.

    The best weapon in nioh 1 is kusarigama but I don't know if it is still the same in nioh 2

  • @20starcombomaker

    I hate how, if you look at the skills diagram, you have the:
    • fists at the top corner
    • switchglaive on the left corner
    • splitstaff on the right corner
    • but there is NO bottom corner weapon!
    Thats a whole extra weapon we could have gotten (bringing the total from 11 to 12)! I also feel like certain weapons could have just been different variants of the same weapons (i.e: fists and claws) to save weapons slots so we coukd have gotten more weapons. If i knew how to mod, i would have:
    1. Fists = claws
    2. Sword
    3. Odachi
    4. Spear = staff
    5. Hatches
    6. Kusarigama
    7. Axe = hammer
    8. Splitglaive
    9. Tonfa
    10. Dual swords
    11. *Ninjato*
    *12.* *Sais*

    i would say in real life i would choose fist sword and a staff since there isnt really a stuff in the game i guess i skip this and stay with fist and katana really dont care how they will play out it just does fit myself the best :)

    • @2bussy
      @2bussy Год назад +1

      In real life you would choose a spear or you would choose death. There's a reason why spears have caused more deaths than any other weapon in the history of our world, because they're incredibly easy to use without training and the range advantage is enormous.

    just finished nioh 1 and move to nioh 2. I had lots of opinions and stuff i have problem with 1 and they literally fix them on 2 XD It almost felt like they read my mind. For example i played nioh 1 as pure mage and when i saw karasu tengu on 1 i wish we had staff too and on nioh 2 we have staff that even have that monk tengu theme. So yeah i'm pure mage on 2 with staff now :D Oh also they add option to hide second weapon and hide ranged weapon. You can refhashion your outfit while seeing yourself.

  • @averagejoe1468

    Idk if its the same in nioh 2 but in nioh 1 i used an odachi magic build and it was like being in easy mode, all i needed to do was that high stance move that makes two fast attacks after using sloth talisman and it would destroy the bosses. I litaraly dies 5 times in the entire playthrough and it was my first playthrough too

      I like Nioh 2 more than Sekiro, BB, Elden Ring.
