It can barely read games or charge the battery, and everytime I use it, it randomly cuts off the power. It's not predictable. It'll just happen anytime. For me, I think it's time for an upgrade. About the 3D? Eh. Doesn't hurt my eyes. I just don't bother with it a lot. XD

They made it because it is as fast as the new 3DS XL but it doesn't feature the 3D which most people don't end up using anyway. It is lighter and runs the games that require a faster processor that will not run on the older 2DS. It is also very cheap and has a lot of games already available. It makes sense to me.

I got one because the limited edition versions were AMAZING! The hylian sheild edition and the pokeball edition are both some of the best limited edition nintendo consoles ever IMO. Then you have the pikachu version, the animal crossing version and the minecraft version which are all pretty good if your into any of those. I got the hylian sheild edition because of how amazing it looks and if I could go back in time, then I'd get the pokeball version too! So that's why I think these systems are valuable

Savannah Lorén -- Not for me at least. I use both a Pixel and an iP7 rn and I notice a huge difference between them and the Pixel is only a 1080p screen. My old Nexus 6p's screen was a 1440p screen (like the GS8) and it was noticeable switching to the Pixel. I guess the 1440p screens have just spoiled me.
Because the first 2DS sucked. The advantage of the 3DS is that it's portable. The original 2DS was not that portable, because it never fit in your pocket. A 3DS without 3D function would have been better in the first place instead of this bulky 2DS. And it looks better than the regular N3DS in my opinion. But I don't get why they removed the camera. What about Games like Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance which needs a camera for it AR Cards?
Kazu I think you should have visited nintendo website first before saying there is no camera. The camera is place in a different location, instead of having the 3d camera at top shell, it was situated at the back and other side of the shell. I think it is a move nintendo made to make it cheaper since it is located directly at the motherboard. Oh and the speakers are at the bottom. Right around the corners. Not a good placement imo, but I will wait for a review though.
Well, my thoughts with the regular Nintendo 2DS is similar that I have with the most recent Nintendo Switch and the first Game Boy: the system _is_ portable, by the fact that you can play anywhere, of course, however, it is not _pocketable_ :v
I had the original 2DS and I still have it but I only recently got the new 2DS XL. My reason why I bought it was to upgrade my 2DS as mine was now a little broken. I couldn't put my 2DS to sleep anymore and the bottom screen is scratched after years of use and a little bit of abuse. I think it looks really good and it fits in my pockets easily. (I know I'm 3 years later on this video. Lmao)
We're getting both the black and the white versions here in Australia, I don't know if that counts as 'the west' though. At first I was kind of interested in buying this, since my old 3ds xl is falling apart (the circle pad fell off from too much monster hunter). I was thinking it would be nice to have a little console for whenever I wanted to play some of my 3ds games as well as virtual console games. But I don't know, I'm pretty happy with how things are going with the switch. Great video by the way!

I think they're also going to release the white-orange version in Europe. You can see the white-orange version show up in the UK trailer, in the Dutch trailer, in the German trailer and probably also in other trailers from countries in Europe. I think I'm going to buy one, but I don't know which one

sleepypillow i did and still not enough battery power for me at least. i like to play RPG like SMTIV, Persona Q, etc that games need hours to finished and forced to stop playing to charge your 3ds kinda ruined my experience (i never play any handheld while charging because of past experience with other handheld that i don't want to talk about lol)
Definitely skipping over this. Already have the original North American 3DS XL and a Japanese New 3DS LL (which I found for cheap locally), so I don't need another iteration of the 3DS. Besides, that makes it the 7th version to be released of the console, probably the final one. And there's also the price factor -- it may be $150 in the US, but in Canada, it'll be $200.
The "New" 3DS XL in Canada costs $250. So even if the "New" 2DS XL costs $200, it's still a better deal for those who want to upgrade to the latest iteration but don't care for the 3D effect.
my friend would buy this over the new 3ds xl because of the price cut, inclusion of the charger, and amiibo support. that seems a legit reason to get it and I can understand why nintendo would make it. I myself might buy one cause it looks freaking awesome

I would. In fact, I pre-ordered it. I sold my original one years ago because I got tired of the few games I had for it, and I wanted a Vita. Now I just want a system that can play the DS games I recently collected, and I suppose a few 3DS games. I no longer have access to a regular DS, and buying one new would cost a fortune (I refuse to buy a used one, as the DS is cheaply made as it is and used ones might break soon after I buy it).
This is an amazing console, huge screen, all the features of the New 3DS, and quite cheap compared to the New 3DSs original launch price, and just looks plain cool
I have a New 3DSXL and an iPhone 6+. They're about the same size, so I don't think pocket size will be an issue. My New 3DSXL fits in my pockets just fine.
Apparently, they changed the SD card slot and cart slot location to make it easier and less prone to accidents. WIth the former, I heard it was a massive pain to change sd cards on both sizes of the n3ds. When the money is right, I'm certainly getting a black and blue one to replace the barely functioning 3ds normal that was given to me.
I think I'm probably getting this. I sold my 3DS about 2 years ago, mostly cause I needed cash then. Not planning on getting a 3DS anytime soon, but this one looks good. Didn't really bother much with the 3D, and hate how the 2DS looked. This is an awesome slightly cheaper alternative and hybrid of the two. Looks great, might get them.
I think you're spot on. The price of the 2ds made me say, "eh, why not." I'm still playing it, and haven't upgraded, but I was really excited to hear about the New 2ds xl, thinking I could add Snes vc games and have a bigger screen. But as I was browsing for new games last week, I thought, "hmm, I may as well add the 3D aspect." This way I'm getting a new experience on games I already have as well as on some new Nintendo Selects titles I've just purchased. And so I'm expecting my New 3ds xl to arrive tomorrow :)

Bro, THIS is what I wanted. Its basically the NN3DS XL but with no 3d (no one uses 3d anyway). I have a New 3ds XL, got it few months after its release date.If this was a choice back then, I'd pick this one instead. You get all the good features from a NN3DS(amiibo support, a tad bit of power than usual) and no need to pay extra for the 3d feature that no one uses.
I lost my original 3Ds XL and never replaced it, I never used the 3D, but didn't want to get a 2ds because it wasn't a clamshell design and the screens were not XL size. So having a 150 dollar option that doesn't have 3D, has a clamshell design, and XL screens, it is perfect for me.
density itself is stupid, Apple convinced people that it was important just to justify the fact that the iPhone 4 had a small screen. What really matters is big resolution, and a big screen with small borders (search for screen-to-body ratio). And you cant change the resolution of a portable handheld like that, all the games were developed in a 400x240 resolution, you cant just change that without having to refactor all the system software to scale everything, specially HUD items. The best you can do is to make a console with a big screen and small borders, wich is exactly what Nintendo did.
As somebody who owns a 2DS, here's a few reasons why I wanted one 1. I'd never use the 3D function (mostly 'cause *that* seems like a money grabber) 2. My first two 2DSes, broke 'cause they had a problem with the hinges in one way or another 3. I actually find the 2DS easier to hold than the regular DS systems
I might buy it. The last Nintendo portable system I own is the Gameboy Advance SP. There is a massive amount of games I can get very cheap. I can slowly build a large backlog of games to start playing when I retire from my job in five years.
Damn it. This was my idea. I even shared it with someone from Nintendo. The only difference - I was saying they needed to release more of the $100 New 3DS. The smaller one they released last year. It would sell like crazy. The other half of my idea was to release more Nintendo Selects titles which are cheaper. To introduce and get people into Nintendo characters, titles and series.
The 2ds was honestly made for kids. It was cheap enough so parents could afford it and not feel too bad if their kid dropped it. But, I think all your points are spot on. I don't think it was a good idea to release the news on the day Mario Kart was released. I mean I would not buy one for myself because I already have a New 3DS XL, but I do see people who've played it for a long time will now recommend it to their friends, since it is cheaper and looks more modern.
I have a new 3ds xl with a lovely animal crossing HHD design on that I love. I bought it not many months back and it works perfectly. I still want this though, for some reason. I love how the bottom screen is finally the same size as the top screen. I never use 3D. I may get this. Especially if my 3ds for some reason decides to wave goodbye (I'm hopeless with electronic devices) this is a cheap and great system (it seems).
I feel like the only person that likes to use the 3D on my DS ALL THE DAMN TIME. I love having it and I use it constantly and always notice the difference. It makes playing Xenoblade seem like I'm staring through a porthole into the pixelated world, while when I turn it off it just looks... cramped and pixelated...
Last christmass i bought a normal 2ds with Pokemon for like 109 euro's which was a great deal! So i will not be moving on to a next type. I can play Pokemon and monster hunter on it. I am totally fine with that. Great channel btw!

This is for people like me that didn't like the 3D or the price tag and patiently waited for exactly this product. Now I can finally get into the latest hand held and there's the entire library to choose from right from the start. And it's not the brick that was the 2DS. I don't get why so many people can't figure this out.
Personally, i really like the idea of the 2DS XL. I dont care about the lack of 3D, they brought the clamshell design back and it is relatively affordable, which makes it perfect for me since i have been meaning to replace my old 3DS with the XL variant anyway.
I've always wanted to buy a 3DS to play Pokémon, my fave games, but the 3D part never really spoke to me. And when I saw they were going to release a much cheaper version WITHOUT the 3D, dude I was so happy. Being a uni student this is awesome, since it so cheap. Nintendo is doing a great job by releasing a new console in the DS family. Also, here in Belgium, we'll be able to buy the black/blue and white/orange one. So both versions!

They made it because it is as fast as the new 3DS XL but it doesn't feature the 3D which most people don't end up using anyway. It is lighter and runs the games that require a faster processor that will not run on the older 2DS. It is also very cheap and has a lot of games already available. It makes sense to me.

I got one because the limited edition versions were AMAZING! The hylian sheild edition and the pokeball edition are both some of the best limited edition nintendo consoles ever IMO. Then you have the pikachu version, the animal crossing version and the minecraft version which are all pretty good if your into any of those. I got the hylian sheild edition because of how amazing it looks and if I could go back in time, then I'd get the pokeball version too! So that's why I think these systems are valuable

Savannah Lorén -- Not for me at least. I use both a Pixel and an iP7 rn and I notice a huge difference between them and the Pixel is only a 1080p screen. My old Nexus 6p's screen was a 1440p screen (like the GS8) and it was noticeable switching to the Pixel. I guess the 1440p screens have just spoiled me.

Because the first 2DS sucked. The advantage of the 3DS is that it's portable. The original 2DS was not that portable, because it never fit in your pocket. A 3DS without 3D function would have been better in the first place instead of this bulky 2DS. And it looks better than the regular N3DS in my opinion. But I don't get why they removed the camera. What about Games like Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance which needs a camera for it AR Cards?
Kazu I think you should have visited nintendo website first before saying there is no camera. The camera is place in a different location, instead of having the 3d camera at top shell, it was situated at the back and other side of the shell. I think it is a move nintendo made to make it cheaper since it is located directly at the motherboard. Oh and the speakers are at the bottom. Right around the corners. Not a good placement imo, but I will wait for a review though.

Well, my thoughts with the regular Nintendo 2DS is similar that I have with the most recent Nintendo Switch and the first Game Boy: the system _is_ portable, by the fact that you can play anywhere, of course, however, it is not _pocketable_ :v
I had the original 2DS and I still have it but I only recently got the new 2DS XL. My reason why I bought it was to upgrade my 2DS as mine was now a little broken. I couldn't put my 2DS to sleep anymore and the bottom screen is scratched after years of use and a little bit of abuse. I think it looks really good and it fits in my pockets easily. (I know I'm 3 years later on this video. Lmao)

We're getting both the black and the white versions here in Australia, I don't know if that counts as 'the west' though. At first I was kind of interested in buying this, since my old 3ds xl is falling apart (the circle pad fell off from too much monster hunter). I was thinking it would be nice to have a little console for whenever I wanted to play some of my 3ds games as well as virtual console games. But I don't know, I'm pretty happy with how things are going with the switch. Great video by the way!
in the UK there is the blue&black and white& orange
US turquoise/black, Oz/NZ white/orange. That's probably about stocking ... you can now run a train from China through to the UK, much faster than ships, much cheaper than air freight, so it will be easier to restock the UK than to restock the US.

I think they're also going to release the white-orange version in Europe. You can see the white-orange version show up in the UK trailer, in the Dutch trailer, in the German trailer and probably also in other trailers from countries in Europe. I think I'm going to buy one, but I don't know which one

sleepypillow i did and still not enough battery power for me at least. i like to play RPG like SMTIV, Persona Q, etc that games need hours to finished and forced to stop playing to charge your 3ds kinda ruined my experience (i never play any handheld while charging because of past experience with other handheld that i don't want to talk about lol)

Definitely skipping over this. Already have the original North American 3DS XL and a Japanese New 3DS LL (which I found for cheap locally), so I don't need another iteration of the 3DS. Besides, that makes it the 7th version to be released of the console, probably the final one. And there's also the price factor -- it may be $150 in the US, but in Canada, it'll be $200.
The "New" 3DS XL in Canada costs $250. So even if the "New" 2DS XL costs $200, it's still a better deal for those who want to upgrade to the latest iteration but don't care for the 3D effect.

I would. In fact, I pre-ordered it. I sold my original one years ago because I got tired of the few games I had for it, and I wanted a Vita. Now I just want a system that can play the DS games I recently collected, and I suppose a few 3DS games. I no longer have access to a regular DS, and buying one new would cost a fortune (I refuse to buy a used one, as the DS is cheaply made as it is and used ones might break soon after I buy it).

Apparently, they changed the SD card slot and cart slot location to make it easier and less prone to accidents. WIth the former, I heard it was a massive pain to change sd cards on both sizes of the n3ds. When the money is right, I'm certainly getting a black and blue one to replace the barely functioning 3ds normal that was given to me.

I think I'm probably getting this. I sold my 3DS about 2 years ago, mostly cause I needed cash then. Not planning on getting a 3DS anytime soon, but this one looks good. Didn't really bother much with the 3D, and hate how the 2DS looked. This is an awesome slightly cheaper alternative and hybrid of the two. Looks great, might get them.

I think you're spot on. The price of the 2ds made me say, "eh, why not." I'm still playing it, and haven't upgraded, but I was really excited to hear about the New 2ds xl, thinking I could add Snes vc games and have a bigger screen. But as I was browsing for new games last week, I thought, "hmm, I may as well add the 3D aspect." This way I'm getting a new experience on games I already have as well as on some new Nintendo Selects titles I've just purchased. And so I'm expecting my New 3ds xl to arrive tomorrow :)

Bro, THIS is what I wanted. Its basically the NN3DS XL but with no 3d (no one uses 3d anyway). I have a New 3ds XL, got it few months after its release date.If this was a choice back then, I'd pick this one instead. You get all the good features from a NN3DS(amiibo support, a tad bit of power than usual) and no need to pay extra for the 3d feature that no one uses.
I lost my original 3Ds XL and never replaced it, I never used the 3D, but didn't want to get a 2ds because it wasn't a clamshell design and the screens were not XL size. So having a 150 dollar option that doesn't have 3D, has a clamshell design, and XL screens, it is perfect for me.
density itself is stupid, Apple convinced people that it was important just to justify the fact that the iPhone 4 had a small screen.
What really matters is big resolution, and a big screen with small borders (search for screen-to-body ratio). And you cant change the resolution of a portable handheld like that, all the games were developed in a 400x240 resolution, you cant just change that without having to refactor all the system software to scale everything, specially HUD items. The best you can do is to make a console with a big screen and small borders, wich is exactly what Nintendo did.
As somebody who owns a 2DS, here's a few reasons why I wanted one
1. I'd never use the 3D function (mostly 'cause *that* seems like a money grabber)
2. My first two 2DSes, broke 'cause they had a problem with the hinges in one way or another
3. I actually find the 2DS easier to hold than the regular DS systems

I might buy it. The last Nintendo portable system I own is the Gameboy Advance SP. There is a massive amount of games I can get very cheap. I can slowly build a large backlog of games to start playing when I retire from my job in five years.
Damn it. This was my idea. I even shared it with someone from Nintendo. The only difference - I was saying they needed to release more of the $100 New 3DS. The smaller one they released last year. It would sell like crazy. The other half of my idea was to release more Nintendo Selects titles which are cheaper. To introduce and get people into Nintendo characters, titles and series.
The 2ds was honestly made for kids. It was cheap enough so parents could afford it and not feel too bad if their kid dropped it.
But, I think all your points are spot on. I don't think it was a good idea to release the news on the day Mario Kart was released. I mean I would not buy one for myself because I already have a New 3DS XL, but I do see people who've played it for a long time will now recommend it to their friends, since it is cheaper and looks more modern.

I have a new 3ds xl with a lovely animal crossing HHD design on that I love. I bought it not many months back and it works perfectly. I still want this though, for some reason. I love how the bottom screen is finally the same size as the top screen. I never use 3D. I may get this. Especially if my 3ds for some reason decides to wave goodbye (I'm hopeless with electronic devices) this is a cheap and great system (it seems).

I feel like the only person that likes to use the 3D on my DS ALL THE DAMN TIME. I love having it and I use it constantly and always notice the difference. It makes playing Xenoblade seem like I'm staring through a porthole into the pixelated world, while when I turn it off it just looks... cramped and pixelated...
Last christmass i bought a normal 2ds with Pokemon for like 109 euro's which was a great deal!
So i will not be moving on to a next type. I can play Pokemon and monster hunter on it. I am totally fine with that.

This is for people like me that didn't like the 3D or the price tag and patiently waited for exactly this product. Now I can finally get into the latest hand held and there's the entire library to choose from right from the start. And it's not the brick that was the 2DS. I don't get why so many people can't figure this out.
Personally, i really like the idea of the 2DS XL. I dont care about the lack of 3D, they brought the clamshell design back and it is relatively affordable, which makes it perfect for me since i have been meaning to replace my old 3DS with the XL variant anyway.
I've always wanted to buy a 3DS to play Pokémon, my fave games, but the 3D part never really spoke to me. And when I saw they were going to release a much cheaper version WITHOUT the 3D, dude I was so happy. Being a uni student this is awesome, since it so cheap. Nintendo is doing a great job by releasing a new console in the DS family.
Also, here in Belgium, we'll be able to buy the black/blue and white/orange one. So both versions!
