@@MintleafCakes I've had over 12 DS's. I bought them all myself as a kid, same with my 30+ games. Even in an abusive environment, I was stubborn. I wanted a DS, and I damn well got one. I never regretted buying it. Nintendo can stop making DS games if they want, but the games that were made are so timeless I could play them over and over. My DS was one of the few things that was really mine. My DS was my whole childhood, and every day I love it even more than I did before.😄
@@jaxayesa5478 Wow, that's really cool! I'm glad you managed to get your hands on so much, regardless of the circumstances. I believe I've had a total of 9 systems in the family? I'd have to go back through memory, but I know that I at least had two 2ds systems (both broke after a few months, they didn't really last very long), a New 3ds XL (my mom sold that for drug money), and a DS lite that I had gotten from a family friend who didn't use it anymore (that was left with my mom as well, I wouldn't be surprised if it got the same fate as the New 3ds XL). I do still play on the 5 that I have with me though, and I have a lot of fun playing the games I've had throughout childhood. I hope to continue it for awhile. 😊
@@MintleafCakes I'm glad too. Buying a DS was the best decision I ever made tbh. ACNL and Pokemon were my escape, and I know that people may call this out as BS, but my DS was one of the few reasons I didn't give up. When you have nothing, even small things are EVERYTHING. I have fond memories of hiding my closet playing XY. Unafraid of the yelling outside. All I saw was my Greninja :) They couldn't take it away either, I bought it myself and they knew better than to try. I'll never stop playing my DS, and I'll never give it up. I'll keep buying them until Nintendo stops building them.
sim rat my parents got it for 100 on Craigslist back in 2011 and it was all new when I opened the box. Sadly, they would have to sell my old ds lite for 90
I didn’t even know the “New Nintendo 3DS” was even a thing. I literally thought they were saying the 3Ds was just a “new” console or something. I wasn’t keeping up with any of the new stuff at the time and totally glanced over it.
I had to wait until early 2017 to be able to get my hands on a "Smaller" New 3DS because the only North American versions of the faceplate swappable model were the Super Mario Black/White editions released for Black Friday 2016.
I had one like that, but sadly it was left behind when I moved places (due to reasons I don't need to get into). The floppy hinge was kinda funny though, it made me laugh.
Kiwi Yeah, my friend had the same problem. Until at some point, the top screen completely fell off. She just shoved it back in its base and it was still functional, albeit with the colors occasionally being off. These systems could really take a hit.
Well, if you had/have the GBA, you could play GBA, Gameboy Colour and OG Gameboy games. Now THAT is a library. If you had/have a GBA and 3DS, you have the ability to play 5 generations of games! That's incredible for just two devices.
The only thing it is missing is GBA games but apparently, if you get a 3DS hacked it is literally the best GBA emulator, or at least on par with the original DS which means it plays them flawlessly. I am gonna save up to grab a hacked console, load up every game I love from my childhood with the greats of GBA to the greats of the 3DS, and store it in a nice dry-cool-safe place for my future kids or my future niece/nephew. They aren't growing up on mobile game garbage. They are getting the good sh*t when they leave the house. Everything from Harvest Moon & Rune Factory, to (Gen 3&4) Pokemon, to Kid Icarus Uprising, even Megaman Battle Network and FF Tactics Advanced. I just haven't decided if I will throw trash licensed games on there since I don't think we will ever see another Shrek Kart 2 port and that is a good way to teach the difference between sh*t and quality.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 honestely the 3ds gba emulator suffers from a lot of slowdown and you are better off emulating it on a psp or your phone ( and this is coming from someone who has both a 3ds and a gba) Maybe it is better on new 3ds but i doubt it
I just realised DS stood for Duel Screen? I've owned a DS system since I was 8 and I only just realised that. My parents also fell for that news story and I was banned from Pictochat until I was 12.
Same but I'm more of a player of old games anyway so I should be fine until the next console comes out and I can finally afford a switch. I rarely ever had the newest thing until the next newest thing came out.
I kinda like the switch but in my opinion it lacks many features and good games, i really liked the wiiU even if everyone hated it and i spent thousands of hours on my 3dsXL an i just cant get myself to like the switch and the games it offers but i guess im just used to the older nintendo consoles
I love my 2ds xl. It’s been really sad the last few years watching certain features go away. It’s been forever since they added new themes, Nikki doesn’t send swap doodles anymore, I don’t get gifts from Phyllis is acnl anymore, miiverse is gone, badge arcade just loops the same sets. For me that’s the saddest part of consoles being phased out. I’m sure someday they will shut down online services for it too.
Switch Lite is a home console that doesn't connect to a television though. Since Switch Lite is a Switch, and Switch is a home console that only replaces the failed Wii U (a home console), it's kind of retarded a home console doesn't output to a television...
Solar well I meant as a gaming platform the screen is horizontal rectangle I find it a little annoying especially when the game moves and it gives that sense of depth by no means the switch is amazing but I don’t like screen
Imo the Switch is such a cool concept that I’m fine with the handheld legacy ending like this (though the Switch does have a few issues like joycon drift)
@@NimhLabs just get one Nintendo is anyways due to a recent class action lawsuit anyways forced to replace joycons if they drift. Failure to do so might get switches recalled and even worse for Nintendo federally sued 😥.
I have a dsi XL and I’m gonna get a 2ds for my bday in September so I can play a Pokemon game cuz I never played one when I was younger. I’m gonna be 14 and still rly wanna play Pokemon 😂
When the 3DS came out (I was 11), I was so BLOWN AWAY by the 3D feature and I spent all my savings on it on release day. And seriously - I do hold on to that opinion. I barely ever play without 3D, I just really love it. Interesting that you liked street pass that much. I barely met anyone in all the years. You probably have to travel or live in a big city.
I legit thought that I was literally the only one who actually liked the 3D feature. Heck back in late 2019, I was really deciding on which N3DS system that I wanted to upgrade to and long story short, I got the small New 3DS just for that reason, as well as the system just not being a fingerprint magnet.
I’ve never played with the 3D mode on because it’s just a pain in my eyes.. But I also hate watching 3D movies in the cinema, so my body seems to be simply not made for that
Fr, got it back in 2012 and was sooo obsessed with it. Also nowadays love the fact that me and my sister used to record many voice recordings on it, so crazy to hear them after 8 years.
Damn I'm so glad I was a Nintendo kid. I witnessed the making of a revolutionary gaming history Also also. I still use my new 3DS and with some games not being in 3D...is kinda wack. I bought style savvy on the eshop and I expected it to be in 3d and boy was I wrong and pretty pissed
I'm gonna be using my 2DS XL into the foreseeable future because the Art Academy games are a lifesaver for me. Being a self taught artist in the U.S. where college is a scam designed to put young people in debt forever... Finding out about the XL ds and the art academy games seriously felt like god answered my prayers.

I remember the days when everybody had a DS. R.I.P 3DS. :( Now everybody has to spend twice as much money on a switch just to play local multiplayer with your friends. I'm not saying you can't play local multiplayer on a 3DS but now it's hard because everybody has a switch instead.
The 2DS is actually a lot sturdier as well. My siblings and I went through so many 3DS consoles and DS consoles because they kept snapping in half. I still have my 2DS, and I got it at launch.
@@TheCandoRailfan Lol right, you have to be really careless to break one of these. I still have my DS lite with a cracked hinge from 2006 and it never broke
My 3ds xl hinge literally crumbled in my hands like 2 months ago. I hadnt played it in a while and was excited to play some animal crossing. I open it and immediately the top screen swings down to one side, the plastic now in my hand. They wont even fix them anymore if you send it to nintendo. But I love my 3ds xl so I gorilla glued that bitch open.
No. Having been someone who used Nintendo consoles/emulators solely to play Pokémon games, over the course of time I've found that DS and GBA have much larger and better library of games than I ever thought, and when you compare Pokémon to it, it just comes out as overrated, and even though I love Pokémon games myself even today, I hate the fact that it overshadows other great titles released on these consoles. The Legend of Zelda games, Metroid games, Castlevania games, The World ends with you, Golden Sun, Super Mario games, Shin Megami Tensei, 999, etc. I could be going on forever.
@@Omfcody1 what? Just... Think about it, the controls, also we don't have a dual screen on the switch, how would it work?! You need to think things thorough before saying them
@@alialpaca I have zero issues emulating the DS on my phone not sure why someone would think the switch is so different? And there's literally an official emulator on the Wii U so I'm not sure where you're coming from at all. The 2DS also only has one screen.
Animal crossing made the original DS my favorite handheld. Now. I can’t wait for crossing on the lite. If anyone told me I’d have a handheld experience like the lite when I purchased my DS. I've been back at my parents house for the holidays and found my old stash of ds games. That is probably the console I have the most games on. So much nostalgia.
The DSi was the first device I ever played on, before I even started playing my dad’s Xbox 360 when I was 5. Very nostalgic. Later, in 2013 I think, I got the 3DS XL, the red one. I still play both my 3ds and my old dsi to this day.
No other consoles even the ones from Nintendo until now can surprise nor excites me more than the NDS back then.. Playing games on a console with 2 different screens simultaneously just a truly pure excitement
YEEEEESSS, someone talking about how good kid icarus is, I am going to cry ;w; I love that game so much I even expendent more than 200 hours trying to beat all leveles in max difficulty ;w;
DS gave me two of my favorite games of all time, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 and Etrian Odyssey. That and playing with my brother and sister as they grew up with stuff like Mario Kart or visiting their towns in Animal Crossing was something very memorable that I'll cherish from these handhelds. I hope Nintendo doesn't give up on the idea of a dedicated handheld for smaller projects or more niche interests/ games that rely on the second screen/ etc.
I got the new Nintendo Animal crossing addition. But, I continue to play on my 3DS, gameboy advance, and gameboy color to this day. It was my childhood so how could I just throw it away. I love them all and they are legendary
What I'm worried about is when it eventually does end and all the games prices plummet but then skyrocket coz of nostalgic people and collectors. Also imo the ds just works better than the switch. The switch isn't portable enough if u get me
It made me feel old until I realised that I was 13 when the 3DS came out making me only 2 years older than him. It still doesn't feel like that long ago.
This video brings sooo many memories when I was a kid. In school on parties, a group of 7 would get together and play Mario Kart and have a blast. I’d take my DS XL EVERYWHERE. I’d also remember playing all tons of games with my friends on the Wii on every house. I have to admit, being a big tech nerd of Apple, Samsung, Google etc, Nintendo still has a soft spot in my heart and will always do. Now with my Switch, I can continue making a lot more fun memories with my friends. Hell, even my awesome and badass teacher owns a Switch and all of my friends try to beat him on Smash Bros.
The name 'New 3DS' was probably chosen after the confusion of the Wii U, which people thought was just an add-on to the Wii. Nintendo wanted to avoid that level of confusion at all costs.
To be fair the 'new' 3ds deal was still kind of confusing especially when shopping online. I got a 'New' 2ds last year because my 3ds screen is pretty scratched up.

I've sat through the entirety of the a little bit more than 24 minutes of your video... For me, that says a lot about the quality of your work. Kudos from Brazil!
I've loved the Nintendo handhelds ever since Gameboy Advance. The original DS was pretty revolutionary when it first released. I have so many found memories of using roms on it in high school. lol 3DS was fine but the 3D aspect was just a gimmick to me.
@@trymsan4368 I hear the 3d actually lowers the battery life by 1 hour so I never used it. Also I couldn't really use the 3d on the old one because I kept moving the screen too much and it messed up the effect. If anything, I would try the 3d on the new 3ds where I hear they changed the 3d so it would work at all angles
I had a 2DS when I was younger. It was the first handheld I payed for myself as a teenager. Yes it wasn't perfect but it only cost me £99 with Pokémon X so I was happy.
I prefer 2DS over 3DS. You couldn't beat the price at all. $80- $100 new with a game like Pokemon X, Mario Maker 3DS, or Mario Kart 7. 2ds also was easier to mod. I've got like 60 3DS games, the libraries of Nes and Snes, and every Pokemon game from Original Game Boy through Game Boy Color.
An impressive feat of the 3DS was in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance looking as good as the early entries from the series on the PS2, especially in comparison to the two previous DS games which while visually impressive for DS games of the time still didn’t achieve visually what DDD managed.
This hits hard. Your dad seemed like an awesome guy. Its amazing how he recorded so many wholesome memories throughout your life. My father has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 bile duct cancer and I've been scared myself of losing him. I'm in my early 20s and I guess I've been using entertainment as escapism myself through childhood 3DS games and 2010s. cartoons. Making the DS still accept Advance carts was the biggest plus for the system.

Nintendo can stop making DS games if they want, but the games that were made are so timeless I could play them over and over. My DS was one of the few things that was really mine.

IMO, between the backwards compatibility, ports, and the eShop, the 3DS has the greatest game library of all time.
Well, if you had/have the GBA, you could play GBA, Gameboy Colour and OG Gameboy games. Now THAT is a library. If you had/have a GBA and 3DS, you have the ability to play 5 generations of games! That's incredible for just two devices.
Yeah, the og DS already had a great library, but the 3DS was that and more.
