For anyone that just started the video, do yourself a favor and play the game once he gets to the spoiler warning, and come back once you're done. Going through the story for the very first time is an experience I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on. You'll absolutely understand why once you're finished.
Fun fact: If you play the game on a DSi or any other DS console with a camera on it, you could take a picture of yourself and your surrounding environment, and when you go into Tartarus and see all the pictures of Earth, you can see your pictures.
I had the chance to find one in Andorre, because fewer peoples would think of search here for games ! But, yes ! It's a shame the game sell so poorly to finally cost an arm now in retro-gaming XD
I saw this at Game Stop and picked it up saying to myself "a game with animal people? I like those." I bought it and brought it back to the car. I showed it to my wife and she said "hey, a game with animal people, you like those." And I did, I did like this
The entire Little Tail Bronx series is one hell of a thing. Ever since I first discovered the game in a Nintendo Power magazine and found out about the community in 2013, I've been completely hooked on the franchise and inspired me to get into artistry. And thanks to the releases of Fuga and the announcements that there's going to be a trilogy, the fan base only keeps growing stronger, with THREE whole Discord servers dedicated to LTB and a ton of artists around the internet making fanart and even a few fanfics, to boot. Hell, there's even a Black Mesa: Source/TimeSplitters: Rewind style fan remake of Solatorobo in development titled Dal Segno al Coda. That's how passionate the LTB community is for such an obscure series. Edit: The fan remake has been put on hold indefinitely, likely even cancelled outright, since November 2023. My most sincere apologies to the few people who were looking forward to it.
I absolutely feel Tail Concerto should be experienced first because it’s just so thematically different than Solatorobo and Fuga and that change in tone is a great twist for people who come in at the beginning. It comes off so lighthearted and detached from any of the lore and backstory to the world the series takes place in, which is such a nice contrast to the sad, backstory-laden Solatorobo and the distressing, war-torn Fuga.
I played Solatorobo first then Tail Concerto second it was not bad up until that self destruct escape scene ugh I'm not sure I want to go back to Tail Concerto after that annoying part but I did beat it
I wish they made a HD collection or something. I still knew of tail concerto and was unable to find a (Affordable) copy. even now i still want to experience the first game as a whole.
I'm one of the weird guys who actually saw maketing of that game and bought it on release when I was a kid. I feel like this game actually had a bigger push in France than in other regions (I wonder why). I remember seeing adds for it in BD and manga as well as video game related magazines, which were still somewhat relevant at the time. Probably one of my favorite DS game, and one of the rarest game I have in my collection. I don't even think I can think of a game that rival its ambition and scope on the console. Also since you were wondering the french voice acting does sound like japanese voice actors trying to speak in a language they aren't familiar with. The dialogue is clear and understandable but you can hear the japanese accent. Fuga is the same except for the narrator, which is a real well known french voice actor btw. She is the french voice of Breath of the Wild Zelda and Ellie from The Last of Us for example.
Solatorobo is genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. One thing I think really deserves special mention, though, is how incredibly strong and involved the worldbuilding is. Like, worldbuilding is a big part of what the devs were doing during that ten-year interim, and while the in-game lore entries do convey it really well, it's the kind of thing that draws you in ever-deeper if you look more into it. Like, you could easily watch through that huge commercial blitz they did in Japan, and even if you don't speak any Japanese, you can understand what concepts are being conveyed just through visuals and general direction. And then you have the artbooks, which not only go into the in-game stuff, but dig into the conceptual processes that the game went through. Seeing the evolution of the pitch and the concept is just amazing. I'm not surprised it's so expensive nowadays (it wasn't rare back then, but it didn't have a very extensive print run), but I highly recommend everyone check it out. It really is a fantastic game.
I also like these older RPG's as they couldn't rely on shiny graphics and fidelity to bamboozle people. They had to get a strong and consistent style, make optimal use of the limited graphical resources they had and had to commit to solid world building to give life to the world. Limitations create intent, they couldn't afford to just throw a whole lot of crap on the screen, they had to choose carefully. Also catridge space on the DS card was very limited so everything that didn't have to be there was cut. I feel the DS is home to some of the greatest RPG's of all time. The cartridge size especially was just perfect. It was large enough so that they didn't have to do the padding that a lot of GBA RPG's suffer from but it also not so large that the developers could just throw in a bunch of garbage without consequence.
They probably won't get physical copies since CC2's self publishing division doesn't have the budget to do that. Though I can see them possibly releasing a physical version once all 3 games are out in a collection.
Solatorobo had left such a massive imprint on me as a kid, I was enthralled with it's story and characters and have always been immensely heartbroken that nothing major of the series has occurred since; no remake or plans to re-release it in some form. Though I deeply appreciate that the universe exists and continues to persist with Fuga, my heart cries out to see Red and Ehl again. There is a very very small team working on a "remake" of Solatorobo in Unreal with fixes to the combat and extra stuff, the project is small- just like the Little Tail Bronx fandom, but they're there and I seriously recommend checking em' out. Only small progress has been made, but they did show some of the concept art and mechanics on their page.
Found out about Fuga last year and was instantly enamored by the concept. Soon found out that it had 2 prequels and decided to play those first. And I am SO glad that I did! Little Tail Bronx's stories and settings are incredibly fascinating! Currently CANNOT wait for Fuga 2!
Little Tail Bronx is a silent actor within the otaku sphere. It has been used to mobilize communities surrounding the kemono subgenre, network small devs from around the globe and challenge the incompetent whims of what publishers allow to succeed. As exemplified at 10:44 and 34:38, If there's proof that gaming is part of an information ecosystem within the collective unconscious, this would be it. As stated, the best way to propel this overlooked paragon to the heights it deserves is to support the FUGA trilogy. Also, considering that much of Tail Concerto started out as a corollary to echo the .hack series, I would recommend also putting support behind it.
EYYYY! This game was my jam! You've earned yourself a subscriber, you other Solatorobo fan! One thing that I have to say about this game is the artstyle. It looks GORGEOUS. Sure, it's hindered a tad by DS compression, but it the 2.5d look of the backgrounds? Chef's Kiss! It's so vibrant! From the training grounds of Mau, to the buggy Visla, to the mines of Shetland, there's so much variety! Probably the one thing that inspired me to be a concept artist in a... related project. Also, just gotta mention the DISGUSTING number of novels artbooks that we've got! There are SEVERAL fully translated lore books that we have lying around if you'd want to take a read! From Gren slapping Opera and Calua, to extra hybrids not discussed in the game, to Nero and Blanck being uhhh well goo goo gaga, or how Quinne's fully involved, there's no shortage of extra content that no one ever reads! (And also don't tell CC2 about Little Tail Revival pls)
I played Tail Concerto many years ago so when I heard Solatorobo was coming out I grabbed it at launch. I'm a huge fan of the story and setting for the series, and was shocked at the turns the story took, it's length, character development, mech customization, the addition of new mechs, as well as the lore added to the world. I still can't believe this was all crammed onto a DS cartridge. Thank you for sharing your review, and I'm glad you also enjoyed it.
Having played this myself, I have to say that Basset is my favorite island in the whole game. That theme is just so somber and melancholy, fitting for a slum like this, but the people who live there are the polar opposite. On top of how significant it is to the story on both visits, the place just feels nice to hang around in. Which is definitely an accomplishment for a slum built on shipwrecks.
Not a lot of games made me legit cry, really! Its rare for a game to make me cry. But Fuga Melody of Steel made me cry like a literal baby. Truly recommend it to anyone wanting a challenge and a really interesting and great story!
God I remember picking this up just thinking it looked cool. I wasn't expecting to be taken into a journey with tons and tons of worldbuilding, great characters and a wild story, but I was.
As one of the aforementioned ten people, I picked up Tail from a closing rental store, and discovered Sola from stumbling across an Amazon listing a few years after it had already come out. Also, you forgot to mention that the Franchise is named "Little Tail Bronx", and also included included a Japanese-only web game designed to teach children the concept of Stranger Danger. Not that I blame you. *I* barely know these things. At least FUGA is giving the series more exposure.
Even playing Solatorobo when I was younger I even back then could tell the passion flowing out of every corner of the world. I don't think I ever got tired of picking up enemies with a so called standard-issue cargo mech and dribbling them like basketballs, and then later learning I can chuck lasers too. While I went through most of the sidestories I skipped over the fishing and flying minigames so I'm surprised it was so robust. Much thanks for spreading this severely underrated game!~
It's actually insane how much content you can miss in this game when you don't do all the quests, these devs are actually insane for making so much of the game optional
I played thks game... 9 to 12 times. Entirely. I loved this game and made me cry hard on my first time, and the other 2 made me feel sad too, but it really felt gorgeous We REQUIRE a Switch remake, it wouldn't just be gorgeous, it would be ART ON ITSELF.
Thank you for giving the spotlight to one of my favorite game of all time! Also I'm french and I wanna tell that the voice acting is... well, you recognize that it is french, but with a clear japanese accent x) which give some charm to it ngl
You have no idea how my heart exploded when I saw this video being recommended, I love this game so much and the last tid bit you shared with the sidequests is honestly very wholesome so I never got to see that but damn it´s an emotional roller coaster ride that this game is and honestly I love how you covered everything about it. It´s just perfect. The only thing you didn´t mention though was that they were planning for a Solatorobo 2 Game and basically telling the story before this game. A story on how Red lived through his childhood and with some characters that you mentioned in the light novel. However the info I have is like fairly old and I am not certain if it still holds true but I was honestly wishing that they made a second game as prequel of sorts.
i just finished this game not long ago and am still having so many goose bumps just hearing you talking about it through out the video cuz every bit of information just hit me with so many feelings. it's a gem definitely.
I'm one of the 10 people who played this when it came out! Didn't know it was a sequel at the time, it was just a cool game with one heck of a plot that I get the itch to replay every year or two.
Wow, did not expect to see this game on my feed, you brought up some of my memories of this game when I played this in high school! I really love the charm of the French VAs, it made me set the VAs for Fuga to French as well since I felt that it just fits with these games.
Oh I love this game. I still have its soundtrack. Also here’s a little fact. There was to be a third game in the Little Tail series to make it a trilogy. It went by the name “Strelka Stories”. There are a number of images attached to this name of concept art with some kind of quotes across the bottom. The art is good. Sad it never got off the ground.
55:54 "It's time for this series to finallt get the success and recognition It's long deserved." Haha wouldn't it be funny if Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 released literally the day before Tears of the Kingdom, wouldn't that be hilarious? I swear this series is cursed to never sell well ever
Yes!!! My favorite ds game!! I remember I found this at a game stop one day around 2013 or so, came with a cd and everything! I remember being blown away by the animated opening and the story, man, the STORY. Fuck it’s so awesome, it changed my life. I highly recommend those to play it, it’s so charming and the characters/story are the best part. It’s amazing.
If the RPG you are talking about is Xenoblade 2, there's not a chance it was inspired by this. Most of us went in expecting a twist like that because Xeno games are always post apocalyptic stories of our real world earth or universe/species. It's a bit of a funny coincidence they also used the same massive ocean trope as this game, Baten Kaitos, Wind Waker and Mega Man Legends and that this game was also post apocalyptic though. Realistically the cloud sea most likely came from Zelda (or possibly a callback to Baten Kaitos) since Monolithsoft was asked to come in and save BOW from its development hell, so Xenoblade 2 was developed as they were simultaneously immersing themselves in Zelda lore.
If you have not played the game I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. As a person who picked it up when it first came out, let me tell you that everything said in this video is true. This game feels like going into a humble little family restaurant, ordering affordable food, then being served the best meal of your life, with a drink that you didn't even know about that, after your first sip, suddenly becomes your new favorite drink. *SPOILERS* "This is it!" I thought to myself, having just beat the final boss Bruno in his final form. I thought about how dang good this game was, and listened through the entire credits as beautiful music gently accompanied the touching pictures that lingered on the top screen. I thought about how much I'd like to replay the game, what ways I could accomplish tasks faster, maybe even try to "Speedrun" the game. The credits ended on a touching note, and the screen went dark- but only for a moment. I was confused- is that the title menu, but blank? Then, my eyes went wide: "New Story Unlocked." I had no idea what that meant, my mind started racing, if it has simply said "New Game" then I'd assume it was just another lap but with harder enemies, like the Legend of Zelda staple mode Master Quest- but no! "New Story!" Could it be an epilogue? I hurriedly selected it, not knowing that I had only played the first half of the journey of my soon to be favorite DS title ever. Thank you for covering this game. A work of art like it should be- no, it NEEDS to be accessible and known to future generations of gamers. I'm thankful that I was able to get a copy when I was younger, and I've put two entire 100% runs through, WITH the New Game Plus mode where you can restart the story with the mecha you unlocked from the previous playthrough. AND IT CAME WITH A SOUNDTRACK CD, LIKE WHAT?!?!
I've played this when I bought a DS on a shopping site for surprisingly cheap. It was 66 dollars and came with 300 games. When I started,I only played the popular games(Mario,Gta and sonic). Once I got bored I tried the other games one by one. Then I came to Solotorobo. I got hooked and the rest is history.
The setting (and final scenario) of Skies of Arcadia, the backstory of Shining Force, the lore of Megaman Legends, the character exploration of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the character customization of Megaman Battle Network, and the combat mechanics of Klonoa? None of this is amazingly original but boy does Solatorobo know who to plagiarize. :D In all seriousness, though, this actually looks really cool despite being a format I don't usually like too much, and I'd love to give it a go sometime!
Ever considered doing a video that runs down a number of DS lost gems? The DS truly had so many amazing titles, it’s on one hand no wonder that there are a plethora of hidden gems in its library, and on the other mind-boggling that there are so many at all.
The Little Tail Bronx series is peak furry media. Change my mind. Kinda sucks there's not more games like it. Also, since you've asked for some game reccs, I reccomend playing Magical Starsign, another hidden gem Nintendo DS RPG with the same artist as Trials of Mana and Fragile Dreams, an exploration-based anime RPG for the Wii.
i'm gonna come back to finish this video after i play the game. ever since i was introduced to Little Tail Bronx and played Fuga: Melodies of steel, i've been obsessed with this world and the characters; can't wait for Fuga's sequels EDIT: Just finished the main story. The sequence where Red goes through the simulations is my favorite part. Though the movement in this game is kinda fucking woncky, I absolutely adored playing this game and experiencing the story. If CC2 ever gets the chance to remake this and Tail Concerto, Imma grab that day 1
Man, it sure has been a while since I last played this game almost half a decade ago... Back then I initially wasn't sold on the "furry" aesthetic upon looking at the cover but the gameplay and plot as the game progressed legit made me think the devs made a game that was both ahead of its time and released too late on the DS' life cycle. ;-; Amazing work on the video btw and in making me reminisce one of (like as you said) the best games I managed to get my hands on the original DS.
Man... I love Solatorobo so much. It's one of my absolute favourite games so much, the characters are charming, the combat is fun, and the ost... GOD, IT'S A CHEF'S KISS.
I played Tail Concerto on PS1 back during it's era, and when I first saw Solatorobo, I was immediately hyped. The hype died down when I thought it would never come stateside, then rose again when I found out it was coming! I preordered as soon as I could and it still sits as one of my favorite games that I will NEVER part with. This video got an instant like and fav when I saw the title.
I'm glad these games are reaching a wider audience, I just desperately wish Fuga stuck to the large sprawling worlds of Tail Concerto and especially Solatorobo. It overall felt like a massive step down in virtually every aspect except the "gameplay" which strikes as aggressively "above average" in the turn-based JRPG sphere, but also bogged down by relentless farming the vast majority of which only drip-feeds you generic dialogue. It's hard to feel like that game got the same love and care Solatorobo did when it practically recoils at the idea of ambition, and they're releasing a sequel hardly two years later; it reeks of copy paste and the trailer isn't reassuring... Anyways, one of my all-time favorite worlds in gaming, even if I do feel they're missing the point now.
As one of the people who played this game in my childhood in the 2010s, watching this video was such a treat!!! Man i dig back up my game and replay it... Oh also, as a french person I can tell you that they honestly did a really good job with the dubbing! I had no idea it was french in all version, because the dubbing genuinely felt natural!
I still have this gem with music CD and carboard box safely tucked away. I scored it at launch and it sure got super rare later. I am super hoping that the game gets a remaster treatment once they are done with the FUGA series.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make a video about possibly one of the most overlooked games of the DS. Despite getting 100 ads in Japan, it isn't very well known.
This game blew me away. I was binging some jrpg's a couple of years ago and it's then that I discovered this gem. Along with radiant historia, magical vacation and magical starsign. I highly recommend radiant historia, original or remaster. It has immaculate gameplay and story and became my favorite game
I got this game when it came out and loved it oh so much, Fuga 1 and 2 are also amazing and i pray we get a remake of this game someday I also still have the actual game and box so I was surprised to see it's price now lol
I got this game as a chance purchase at a GameStop and I could not be more happy that I did! It's such a fantastic game and I'm glad you got the chance to look at it and share your experience with others!
Great video! I just played Solatorobo after somehow getting my hands on a physical copy for a great price, and I fell in love with it. I honestly think it's one of the most impressive games on the entire system, and one of the best in my collection too. It's really a shame how unknown this game is. But I'm really glad I played it and proud to have it on my shelf. Not sure whether I'll pick up Fuga, because turn-based RPGs just aren't really my thing, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it!
Wow holy sh*t. I went into this video like you went into the game with a bit of prejudice and not much expectations and my god did I got blown off my socks! Not only is the graphical and mechanical parts of the game that got cramped onto a ds utterly impressive; The different mixtures of mediums, between beautiful background drawings that awoke with it's pixelated style some beautiful memories of the original FF7 backgroundart (also FF9 including some Background characters that reminded me too of some beloved characters from that era) but also, clearly drawn sprites turned into smooth not immersion breaking animations (like the little transition where the townies flee after being attacked), the impressive 3D models that also merge so beautifully into the artstyle and the background without looking too much out of place (which sadly alot of Ds games and 3Ds games suffered from and did not even closely looked as polished or as harmonic as this title while using some old industry techniques of mixing some more natural looking and especially more storagespace friendlier alternatives to pure 3D modeling without losing any quality in the creative visions and the endproduct. It's a more time consuming, production costly and especially trickier process of tweaking the game to fit onto the cardridge if you keep in mind all the little cutscenes and different codes/transcripts for each medium to function like wanted.) plus even animated cutscenes that weren't crammed into ugly 3D models instead. All of this just makes you forget that this is an DS GAME. Not 3Ds or atleast a much more modern handheld release. IT'S ON A DS. The thing that spawned us stuff like Ace Attorney that not only had those short idle animations due to cost-cuts but also because the cardridge was just a small little storage where people weren't too sure yet how too max out it's potential yet. And even with launching that late into the ds lifespan I'm still blown away that it wasn't developed for it's predecessor. Also the story...wow, for someone that is used to square enix beloved wild Settings and plottwists, it wasn't anything that I did expect nor seemed to alien for me to understand compared to many storylines and thosen twists of the FF games (as example FF10 or 9) especially if you keep in mind that it's designed for kid to teen audience, that has to somehow be able to follow the story. It came for me as unexpected as clearly and easy to follow without me feeling like it's an predictable or washed down plot. In comparison even how much I endeared and still do, the story of FF10 and its twist, it was still a bit too hard to follow, seemed sometimes to wild and alien for me to wrap my head around and understand wth is going on, especially when I used to be a child. Now as an adult I understand it more but it's still alot of crazy things going on that make it hard for me to follow and wrap my head around without loosing track. Absolutely a pluspoint and smth I did not expect when clicking on this video, especially thanks to the way of your narration without giving away anything of the unexpected fakeout (which i didn't even saw coming due to me being so indulged in it that i didn't keep an eye on the length of the video.) I'm not only baffled that I stumbled upon a sudden gem I definitely going to check out to play by myself but also a new channel I gotta have to binge through! Good sire, you just won yourself a new excited subscriber that just stumbled upon this video and especially your content for the first time! Keep it up!
I've never heard of this series before but damn it seems like a banger when it comes to the story/lore. I also noticed that the prequel game (Fuga) you talked about at the end has manga adaptation! The mangaka is someone I follow on social media and he has tweeted about it few times. I only realized after watching the video that the manga was about this series. What it comes to personal forgotten/hidden gem DS/3DS games, Level-5's Inazuma Eleven- and Danball Senki (known as LBX in the West)-series comes to mind! Inazuma Eleven is a soccer JRPG and it's just as wild as it sounds. Players use over the top special moves in the field and can call out avatars, fuse with historical beings and even turn into animal in the 6th instalment of the series (that sadly never got localized) Danball Senki/LBX on the other hand is series released on PSP and 3DS about people playing with small robots in stages made in cardboard boxes! It's kinda similar to Gundam Buil Fighters and MegaMan Battle Network-series in concept. The story is also bonkers wild, the third game in series literally titled "Danball Senki Wars". Sadly only first game in the series got localized in the west, known as LBX (Little Battlers eXperience), but it's one of my favorite series. The games also sadly have kinda horrible voice acting in English versions and the fact they've changed characters names to more Western ones doesn't help.
Great video! Solatorobo is an awesome game. You say you want a suggestion..hm.. For RPGs, I’d say Legend of Legacy on 3DS and/or Alliance Alive on 3DS/Switch. Good games, great DS-style nostalgic look to them, in a way. Cool stories, interesting concepts and overall solid games. if you want something *really* experimental, play Outer Wilds. Freakin’ incredible story. Little janky to play, just give it some time. Lots of reading and putting together the dots, then trying things out. Don’t feel pressured. It’s worth playing.
Thanks for introducing this hidden game, it's really a hidden gem in the ds library. Also i really enjoyed the game a lot both from gameplay and story.
Watching this was a massive punch to the face. I played Solatorobo on the DS and got hooked on the story the entire way through. I'm still playing through Fuga and knew that there was a sequel but the news about it being a trilogy is a major bright spot in my day! It's great to see more people experiencing this game and the world that's being built! Now I just have to find my copy and play through the game again!
Oh man, I remember seeing advertising for this as a kid and it was so magical to see that robot fly trough the skies and above all the islands, but I forgot the name and thought I was never gonna see this game again, but here we are! Thanks for making this video!
The fact that I watched this video in it’s entirety without looking away for a moment really says something compared to some other videos that have me passed out 10 minutes in.
This game... THIS GAME... is bloody sweet! The first time I found it was back around 2011 or so, in mall's game store. It stood out to me. Around 2021, i found a copy in a grocery store for about 45€. Never knew it that rare. The joy that I had while playing this game... i cannot express enough.
I don't know if it's just me, but these two games draw some similarities to the Klonoa games. I mean, you have a furry-like protagonist that speaks a certain language no matter what region you play the game that can pick enemies up and throw them at other enemies or bosses to deal damage and the fact that these games started out on the Sony Playstation and are relatively obscure nowadays.
DS library is amazing and this game is pure GEM. Tail Concerto for PS One is also one of the best games for the system, and even better than Megaman Legend.
when i was something like 9 or 10, i asked my mom for some Pokémon rumble game for my birthday while knowing that it was a 3Ds game and i did not have one, hoping that maybe a Dsi version was made. as could be predicted, there was no such version and my mom asked for a clerk's help, where she was advised this game... i remember getting it in my hands and my mom apologizing for not having been able to find the game i had asked for, she kept insisting that the clerk had really sold it well and that i would absolutely love it. i remember doing at least 4 complete run throughs, none of which had me bored once. this was back when i didn't really have a lot of games, but i did get a couple of Pokémon and Monster Hunter games that i never replayed as much as i replayed Sola To Robo. it took me a while to feel how good and important that game had been to me, only realizing quite late that it had always been my real favorite video game. whether it was instilling in me what a really good story was or what actually fleshed out characters feel like, it's been a standard in my mind for years, during most of which i wasn't even aware of the influence it had had on me. thank you for the beautiful video, i will be recommending it to some friends to really make them want to try the game. who knows, maybe someone'll make a canon sequel to Sola To Robo!
Well from what I hear it is mostly due to bandai namco for why they are not able to port or remake it themselves, which is stupid but it is what it is. Although I do know there is a small community around making a fan remake of the game I think they'd said in the unreal engine, they did said it would be a long while for that, so hope at least that gives you something to look forward to!
Solatorobo is just ... My favorite game of all time. I finished it 4 times at 100%, I loved it so much when I was young that it stuck in my head for ever. Gosh. Thanks for talking about it. It's just so sad that it was on Ds and that it won't be remaster.
This game RULED. I played it when I was a kid and, even though we're not getting direct sequels, I'm happy that they're still making stories in this universe. Great vid.
There's no doubt that the DS had its share of great titles outside the major first and third party titles. For example, the Legendary Starfy could've been the next Kirby.
Was fun seeing part of this. I wanted to see if I leaved the game still far from the end, and seems that's indeed the case despite having played through a bit more than the first credits. But .. so far, still lazy, the gameplay was getting too repetitive, and I don't know if I want to go through it again
I bought this game the week it came out, completely on a whim. I was like "huh that looks unique I'll check it out." It is now one of my all-time favorite games.
Commenting (as you asked) because I have decided this game sounds so fucking worth playing thank you for the recommendation. Gonna play a rom on my 3ds for the best experience. As a French person I'm very excited to hear and see what this game has to offer HAHA. I'll edit my comment when I'm done with both the game and your video.
For anyone that just started the video, do yourself a favor and play the game once he gets to the spoiler warning, and come back once you're done. Going through the story for the very first time is an experience I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on. You'll absolutely understand why once you're finished.
But that means I'll have to buy the game, and I don't have a nintendo DS. But I do have a nintendo 3DS. And no, it doesn't havr that much games.
This is what all spoilerphobes say
As someone who played and completed the game (on an emulator) before going into spoiler territory, i can confirm.
google says its over 300 dollars so no can do
@@thepotatoofheavenlol
Fun fact: If you play the game on a DSi or any other DS console with a camera on it, you could take a picture of yourself and your surrounding environment, and when you go into Tartarus and see all the pictures of Earth, you can see your pictures.
No way 🤯🤯🤯
Played this on a flashcart so I’m unsure if it was able to use my pictures
I had this game back before it was disgustingly expensive. I LOVE it and seeing more coverage of it makes me so happy!!
god, glad that I bought it when it was like 10-20€
I really wish there wasn't any scalping of glorious games like these period.
Same!
I had the chance to find one in Andorre, because fewer peoples would think of search here for games ! But, yes ! It's a shame the game sell so poorly to finally cost an arm now in retro-gaming XD
Man, you're lucky. I saw a review of it in a magazine ans decided to buy it, but couldn't find it anywhere
I saw this at Game Stop and picked it up saying to myself "a game with animal people? I like those." I bought it and brought it back to the car. I showed it to my wife and she said "hey, a game with animal people, you like those." And I did, I did like this
And so he did.
Amen
I really hope the Fuga trilogy will bring a lot more fans, because, I heard the first game didn't had good sells despite being a great game ! TwT
If that remake is finished, and it does not sh!t on the original artwork, I will play it.
Where can I find info on the remake? I've been looking but have been running into some dead ends unfortunately. Would love some info, thanks. ^^
@@plarcurander260 It is 100% fan made, called Solatorobo: Dal Segno al CODA. Do not expect to play it anytime soon, they are like 2% done.
What discord servers?
She is the french voice of Breath of the Wild Zelda and Ellie from The Last of Us for example.
yeah dude, im from France too and i have the game, i bought for like 5 euros, that's the rarest game in my collection too
Yeah i got it as a kid too - my dad read a review of it in the newspaper and decided it was something I’d probably like. S-tier dad
Hope it gets a remake or remaster. I want to play the FUGA games, but they aren't physical copies yet. Me and Grandpa love Melodies of Steel!
get them digitally if you can, the first game sadly bombed hard so a physical copy isnt happening for a long time :c
They probably won't get physical copies since CC2's self publishing division doesn't have the budget to do that. Though I can see them possibly releasing a physical version once all 3 games are out in a collection.
@@scrappy2082 Thanks for the comment I will get it on a sale someday soon then.
@@SacrificAbominat FUGA 2 is getting a physical on Play-Asia (apparently, take listings with grain of salt). I'll hold until September or so....
Currently CANNOT wait for Fuga 2!
im glad more people are knowing about this underrated but wonderful series. many of my closest friends i've met through the LTB community
👍
Hey, rata. How's ltr?
The devs really said "Hey lets make a game with a sequel already in it, *just in case.*"
Considering the post credits scene of Fuga Melodies of Steel I think there is at least the desire from part of the developer to remake this game.
I LOVED this game as a kid!
And i hope that they named the plan "plan CODA" because of the fact that in some languages Coda means Tail
Coda is also the singer of "Bloody Stream" and "Fighting Gold".
Well, Red's voice actor is Simon's so, I think that speaks volumes
Even playing Solatorobo when I was younger I even back then could tell the passion flowing out of every corner of the world. I don't think I ever got tired of picking up enemies with a so called standard-issue cargo mech and dribbling them like basketballs, and then later learning I can chuck lasers too. While I went through most of the sidestories I skipped over the fishing and flying minigames so I'm surprised it was so robust. Much thanks for spreading this severely underrated game!~
I didn't have the money to get this one, but after modding my 3ds, I found it randomly floating around on the high seas! 😏
Solatorobo is one of the games that moved me to tears more than once.
It is really that good.
Oh yeah, and the music is amazing, too.
I'm so so happy you covered this game! Solatorobo and Little Tail Games in general are so extremely underrated :D
It's actually insane how much content you can miss in this game when you don't do all the quests, these devs are actually insane for making so much of the game optional
I played thks game... 9 to 12 times. Entirely.
I loved this game and made me cry hard on my first time, and the other 2 made me feel sad too, but it really felt gorgeous
We REQUIRE a Switch remake, it wouldn't just be gorgeous, it would be ART ON ITSELF.
I'm glad FUGA led to this rabbit hole I've found myself in. These games look very interesting.
FINALLY! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS FOR SOMEONE TO COVER THIS GAME!!! THANK YOU
This game is what inspired me to create a game with a sense of depth in world building. And is my favorite game of all time on just charm alone.
Every time Monger talks about a game, they gets a higher chance to be republished as collection or emulation
i just finished this game not long ago and am still having so many goose bumps just hearing you talking about it through out the video cuz every bit of information just hit me with so many feelings. it's a gem definitely.
Rewatching this while I play Fuga: Melodies of Steel. This franchise has become one of my favorites, all because of this video
Also, Fuga also only has French and Japanese voice acting. Japanese is the default, but I'm playing in French
I feel like French really is the only way to experience it. It felt unnatural for me to hear it in Japanese after playing Solatorobo
I'm one of the 10 people who played this when it came out!
Didn't know it was a sequel at the time, it was just a cool game with one heck of a plot that I get the itch to replay every year or two.
I played it on a purple Ds game cartridge
But could not get past the first bit I DO
Still have it but I am having trouble with it
Thank you for making this video. I'm one of the ten people that played this game and I always thought it was such a shame no one played it.
55:54 "It's time for this series to finallt get the success and recognition It's long deserved."
Haha wouldn't it be funny if Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 released literally the day before Tears of the Kingdom, wouldn't that be hilarious?
I swear this series is cursed to never sell well ever
These are games for two completely different audiences. A serious war drama is clearly not for Zelda players
I played through this game a few years ago on my 3ds and it was soooo gooddd
The art, the music, the story, the characters.
EVERYTHING
*SPOILERS*
"This is it!" I thought to myself, having just beat the final boss Bruno in his final form.
FINALLY SOMEONE MENTIONS THIS GAME
Please please please do Fuga: Melodies of Steel next and it’s sequel this summer
Lucky to get this as a kid, I never knew the audio was french in all regions while I played it, because I am french myself
I love this series of game so MUCH! Thank you so much for making this video!
YOOOO I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBERED THIS GAME!
You have no idea how great it is to see people talking about it.
i'm gonna come back to finish this video after i play the game. ever since i was introduced to Little Tail Bronx and played Fuga: Melodies of steel, i've been obsessed with this world and the characters; can't wait for Fuga's sequels
EDIT: Just finished the main story. The sequence where Red goes through the simulations is my favorite part. Though the movement in this game is kinda fucking woncky, I absolutely adored playing this game and experiencing the story. If CC2 ever gets the chance to remake this and Tail Concerto, Imma grab that day 1
Man, it sure has been a while since I last played this game almost half a decade ago... Back then I initially wasn't sold on the "furry" aesthetic upon looking at the cover but the gameplay and plot as the game progressed legit made me think the devs made a game that was both ahead of its time and released too late on the DS' life cycle. ;-;
Amazing work on the video btw and in making me reminisce one of (like as you said) the best games I managed to get my hands on the original DS.
9:43 that's me, I'm the person that played this game already in the past
Radiant historia is my ult fave ds game, along with twewy and 999 for games with replay ability
I got this game when it came out and loved it oh so much, Fuga 1 and 2 are also amazing and i pray we get a remake of this game someday
I also still have the actual game and box so I was surprised to see it's price now lol
Can’t wait for fuga 2 tomorrow
Love to see the little tail bronx series talked about 🙏
Wow holy sh*t.
I went into this video like you went into the game with a bit of prejudice and not much expectations and my god did I got blown off my socks!
Not only is the graphical and mechanical parts of the game that got cramped onto a ds utterly impressive;
The different mixtures of mediums, between beautiful background drawings that awoke with it's pixelated style some beautiful memories of the original FF7 backgroundart (also FF9 including some Background characters that reminded me too of some beloved characters from that era) but also, clearly drawn sprites turned into smooth not immersion breaking animations (like the little transition where the townies flee after being attacked), the impressive 3D models that also merge so beautifully into the artstyle and the background without looking too much out of place (which sadly alot of Ds games and 3Ds games suffered from and did not even closely looked as polished or as harmonic as this title while using some old industry techniques of mixing some more natural looking and especially more storagespace friendlier alternatives to pure 3D modeling without losing any quality in the creative visions and the endproduct.
Absolutely a pluspoint and smth I did not expect when clicking on this video, especially thanks to the way of your narration without giving away anything of the unexpected fakeout (which i didn't even saw coming due to me being so indulged in it that i didn't keep an eye on the length of the video.)
I'm not only baffled that I stumbled upon a sudden gem I definitely going to check out to play by myself but also a new channel I gotta have to binge through!
Good sire, you just won yourself a new excited subscriber that just stumbled upon this video and especially your content for the first time!
Keep it up!
A pleasant surprise.
Got this game when it came out. Only recently completed.
Glad people are getting to see more of it.
Thank you so much for giving justice to my favorite game ever. I hope that everyone can enjoy both this and the Fuga Melodies of Steel series
Players use over the top special moves in the field and can call out avatars, fuse with historical beings and even turn into animal in the 6th instalment of the series (that sadly never got localized)
Danball Senki/LBX on the other hand is series released on PSP and 3DS about people playing with small robots in stages made in cardboard boxes!
One of my favorite games of all time. Thank you so much for helping make it known.
Some of the characters and the machines design looks inspired by the ghibli movies aesthetic
I loved to play this game on the 3DS when i was a kid. Im so glad I still have and can play this masterpiece! one of my favourite games!!
I don't know if it's just me, but these two games draw some similarities to the Klonoa games. I mean, you have a furry-like protagonist that speaks a certain language no matter what region you play the game that can pick enemies up and throw them at other enemies or bosses to deal damage and the fact that these games started out on the Sony Playstation and are relatively obscure nowadays.
thank you so much. today is a good day to be a ltb enjoyer.
I liked this game. I picked it up on clearance not knowing what it was. I saw robots on the packaging and I was sold.
I can't stand how impossible this game is to get. There's an obvious demand for it, so I really wish they'd port it to at _least_ Steam.
Yes yes yes, thanks for covering this game, more people need to know more about this
Solatorobo is just ...
Great vid.
Good recovery to you. I enjoyed this video very much. Just reliving this gem made me almost cried. Thank you for that!
Solatorobo is one of my favorite games on the DS. Thank you so much for making this video!
You just hit me with a wave of nostalgia, I remember seeing this in a Nintendo Power magazine way back when. I forgot about this game till now.
I was like "huh that looks unique I'll check it out."
It is now one of my all-time favorite games.
The only other game that faked me out with an early ending like that was Okami.
Also the atmosphere is so gooddd
And oh gosh I suddenly remember Red's super sad backstory ;_;
