I see the 2DS as Nintendo's stubborn defiance against the concept of reducing of the New 3Ds XL's price
TacticalPower88 , no not really, Nintendo doesn't want to keep investing on 3ds parts, but still want to keep the system going, so they are ditching the cost of manufacturing extra parts for 3d capability to a minimum and not to compete with the switches price range, also why they are canceling the small size 3ds. they could lower the price on the 3ds, but why do so at a heavey manufacturing cost when they can slice that aswell.
clearly they're phasing out the 3DS, it's going to be 2DS and New 2DS XL around this time next year- mark my words, the New 3DS XL is going to be phased out in about a year or so.

You can actually get a used New 3DS XL off Amazon for around $20 cheaper than a 2DS XL, but honestly, all the New 2DS's design improvements make it worth paying extra. Its stylus may be too small and the position of the speakers may take a toll on sound quality, but the shape is more ergonomic, the ridged texture makes it easier to grip, and most importantly, not only is it much lighter, but the fact that most of the lost weight is from the top screen gives it WAY more comfortable weight distribution.
I know this post is a year old, but a Used New 3DS isn't new 😅. And if you think about it, you'd be spending at least 20 of those dollars having to buy the charging cable. Not to mention the 2dsxl models lately come with Mario Kart 7 (A 30 Dollar Game).

The New 2ds looks perfect for me. I still have the original 3ds and never upgraded. I always turned 3d off because I didn't like it, so this makes perfect sense for me personally. Great video!
This new 2ds is actually an awesome system. I just bought one and can't believe how well its made and much more I like it then my New 3DS XL. Weird but I like the New 2DS XL better.

Its a small gripe, but on the previous new 3DS systems (Regular and XL) when the system is closed there is a little gap all around the edges where dust gets in and it has damaged my screen a bit over time. With the New 2DS it looks like the screens are completely protected from outside dust or pocket lint getting in like on the DS Lite models. That alone has me interested in possibly getting it at some point. That and the design of the New 2DS just looks so cool.

Nepu-Tech USA its $50 cheaper. if you have $200 to spend and need to get the system you can get a new 3ds xland stare at it or play those little pre installed games or you can get the new 2ds xl and get a game.
Still playing my New Nintendo 3ds xl in 2019 i mean with 75Million Nintendo 3ds sold and counting and the huge library of games i will be playing my Nintendo 3ds for years 🏆🤜
Very good review! You really covered everything regarding the 2ds xl compare to the 3ds xl. Only thing i would add is that the first 2ds (2013) doesnt read exclusive new 3ds titles, isnt compatible with amiibos and is slower than the 2ds xl (especially in the e-store or with more recent titles). I also think that the 3ds xl finish is more durable but that might just be me.
I have watched so many conversation pieces and reviews of the 2ds XL already but I'm so glad you did this as well because I love your opinion on things.
I own a new 3ds. but it's the Hyrule edition and the case I had was actually the thing that caused knicks in the paint. if rather not keep it as my main carry around console. I like the look of the new 2DS, plus I never game in 3d. so I figure this will probably be the system I pick up
I personally have most of the 3ds consoles and I highly recommend this one. Although hand position may be cramped if you have bigger hands. If so I highly recommend the 2ds original as well. (You'll be limited to the games that require the New 3ds functions.)

I have the new 3ds xl but I'm getting the new 2ds xl because I love it's design and they got rid of the glossy finish and I never use the 3d and the hinge on my 3DS is very very loose and I haven't had it that long and my last one was fine
Definitely picking this up, I've had my 3DS since 2012 and it's definitely showing it's age (And by that I mean the R button and touch screen don't work all that well). I've never really cared much for the 3D and almost never used it unless my sister (who cares a lot more for the 3D than me) played it.

I barely use the 3D, I don't think I've seriously used 3D on my OG 3ds in ages but hearing about that it's essentially the same as a new 3ds minus the 3D, and more much cheaper then £179.99.... I think you've really helped :D as long as it can play hyrule warrior legends like the n3ds can. Ironically this will be a birthday present! You're getting a like and a sub from me!

This really helped me with my decision- I never upgraded to the 3DS generation after the original DS, however really want to now.

I've had multiples of each of the original 3ds, xl, 2ds. At one point I had 3 xls, 2 2ds, and about 8 different original ones. 3 red and 5 other colors. So I think I'm hooked into this one.

The 3ds XL was discontinued by Nintendo, so the New 2ds XL is the only one you can get from a first-party source. Any other methods (at least during this quarantine) are a lot shadier.

I love that the new 3ds xl NES edition with Mario kart nes is the same price as the new 2ds xl with Mario kart 7, it really makes you think of your priorities
What's the point of constantly buying the same product they all play the same games.... mostly anyhow I just really don't see the point
This is mostly for people who never got a 2DS/3DS, want the larger screens, don't care about 3D, or can't see it properly, have to watch what they spend(ex: family with a few kids) or people who got the original 3DS/2DS, and want to play some of the "NEW" 3DS games that can't be played on the older hardware. I personally only own a 2DS because I got a refurbished unit off Nintendo's eBay page for $60, and while I love it, I have a "NEW" 2DS XL on preorder because I personally have vision issues that are starting to make the small screen hard to look at for a more then a hour, and forget about 3D does not work for me, and give me a vomit like feeling after 3mins. So there are a lot of reasons to get the "NEW" 2DS XL.

You're not supposed to buy one every single time, you just buy one and skip and generation or two and then you eventually upgrade. Just like if you had an iPhone 5 but 8 is gonna come out soon so then you could upgrade to 8
Another small but nice touch is how the serial number was moved to inside the dust cover flap of the game and sd card slot section. Now the serial number can't get scraped off from usage of the system.

Just bought a 2DS XL second hand off eBay in great condition. Gone straight in and have 6 games. Why did I never buy one years ago. Complaints my Switch nicely. Right now back to Ocarina of time.

I bought one of these having missed the entire dsi-3ds line and I'm very happy with it. I play my New 2ds XL more than my switch.. Great game library, and it just feels better to carry around and play than the Switch..
If you skipped the 3ds line I'd totally recommend this.

I got a 2ds xl for my daughter yesterday. Before that time, research after research on whether to get the 2ds or 3ds version. Now, I'm actually glad I got her the 2ds xl for I tried it as well and we are both satisfied with it. My daughter's mother was playing with it as well. With that said, I'm looking to get 2 more.

It was hella dumb for Nintendo to come out with the 2ds xl right after the Nintendo switch and plus people already have the new 3ds xl and it's amazing I love mine and the only reason people are saying the 2ds xl is better than the 3ds is because they do the same thing every time a new console comes out , they'll say oh it uncomfortable to hold , I hate the 3D feature but in reality they were stoked about the new 3D features that's why these videos aren't worth watching

Ok someone pleas help me out pleas I just bought a 2DS xl and I’m already having doubts before even playing it as soon as I opened it I noticed a hinge was a bit wobbly I’m not sure if that’s normal or not I read online and they say it’s normal but then I also read that they have issues with the top screen breaking easily I don’t want to just buy a system and have it for only one or two years 🥺

Personally, i would prefer the New 2Ds XL.
Lighter, better design, a bit smaller, cheaper and no 3D mode that nobody needs.
