This song is why I am a Machine Head fan. I was a sophomore in high school, and I lost my mind when I heard The Blackening. Fast forward about a decade, and the first concert my daughter went to was A Night With Machine Head, 2 1/2 of JUST MACHINE HEAD. She was 7, she got called out to from Robb onstage, got some cool merch, and met the band outside. I will never not love this band, nor this song.

Machine Head is timeless. Always on the edge of the issues of the day. Rob Flynn is my all time favorite vocalist. They also know how to just throw together an amazing pit song that just makes you want to break ya neck. A guttural reach into the soul of the fan listening and bring out an emotion of not just anger, but also willpower to make a change. Their newest album is amazing top to bottom. I saw some comments talking about Davidian, another politically charged song but one that almost got them to the mainstream. Burning Red really brought them into focus. It was the period in the 90's when Rap/Metal/NuMetal joined forces and took over the musical world. Halo was a great choice and I'm glad to see so many young people enjoying it today.

All my guitar players know the first thing you'll learn about Machine Head is they love that damn harmonic on the E string. What we know as "nu-metal" was really kind of a fad but they definitely were part of that. A lot of bands started going in that direction obviously when Slipknot blew up (and when Metallica cut their hair!) and then they all started going "back to their roots" and grew their hair out later in the 2000, like these bands all had gritty reboots.
Also, Rico Constantino was in WWE for a while. He's a legitimate former SWAT officer and they made him Billy and Chuck's gay stylist/wedding planner.

I've seen this band five times. Never ever get tired of them. Just stupendous. There's a live video of this song from Knebworth in 2009. I was there. I had goosebumps everywhere. It was THAT GOOD. They're more hard-core thrash. Formed in Oakland, definitely took elements from thrash, hard-core punk but also rap, there's definitely flow in Robb's vocals.
And this tune. Definitely anti Christofascism. Robbie shared the lyrics after the recent Roe Wade ruling, there are elements of that.

Machine Head were(along with Fear Factory, Lamb of God, and a host of others), at the forefront of what is referred to the New Wave Of American Heavy Metal, or NWOAHM.

the blackening album is the album of the decade for a reason. next songs you should react to is "clenching the fists of dissent" a 10 minute song of just pure trash! and the other song is aesthetics of hate which got nominated for the best metal performance and the song is about the death of dimebag darrell. worthy song to listen to.

After a few shit albums, it was a very heavy welcoming home for us metalheads that followed them from the 90s. Great album!
