Loved this album! Every time someone asks me at work how I am I say “lovely” they think I’m just a happy person because they don’t Get my sarcasm from this song. Lol
ST formed in 1980 in Venice Beach, California. The singer, Mike Muir has an older brother, Jim, who was a member of the infamous skate team DogTown. So in the beginning ST was huge with the skater scene. Definite mix of punk, hard-core and metal. Awesome band!!! 🤘🏻
They were kind of a fusion band. They brought the metal head, skaters and punks together. Many great songs. Just grab a Pepsi before the next reaction.
ST are legends. The Rocky George era is so killer. Suicidal Tendencies, if defined, is not necessarily meaning wanting to outright kill yourself....its more like wanting to do things that may result in a suicide, like taking a high risk that could end your life. Like skydiving and/or Russian roulette could be suicidal tendencies
Suicidal Tendencies formed in 1980 and their self-titled first album come out in 1983. They were almost skater punk in the beginning. The singer, Mike Muir, grew up in Venice, California which was a skating mecca back in the day. The album that "You Can't Bring Me Down" was off their 1990 album Lights...Camera...Revolution! This album was their first Thrash Metal album. It mixes the best of their Skater Punk sound with the power, speed, and anger of Thrash Metal. The lineup for this album included Rocky George and Robert Trujillo. George's thrash riffs and Trujillo's bass lines are what made this album my all-time favorite Suicidal Tendencies album. Trujillo has been the bassist for Metallica since 2003. If you are looking for other songs to play from ST, Institutionalized is probably their biggest hit. Others to try "Nobody Hears", "Gotta Kill Captain Stupid", "Lovely", "Give It Revolution", "Go'n Breakdown", "Possessed to Skate". "Subliminal". Also, they are definitely not banned in Los Angeles. This is the band's hometown and they still play here on a regular basis. I think Mike Muir is the only constant member at this point, though.
Saw them open for a Megadeth in Chicago, front row. They absolutely blew me away. One of the best bass players I had ever seen - then he moves to Metallica!! Tons of energy and lots of fun.
Hell yeah, I never get tired of this song! Y'all would love their song "Trip At The Brain" from my favorite album How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, the music video is very entertaining! Great reaction as usual guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
One of the best skater punk, metal bands of the 80s and 90s . This track is by far one of the most aggressive and angry of any that they had ever done. Im 50 years old and still rocking
I love this era of Suicidal Tendencies with Rocky George on lead guitar. I put this on when I need to get pumped. Now you have to do "Institutionalized".
One of my favorite bands and songs growing up in the late 80’s and 90’s, the singer’s brother was one of the original Z Boys from the Zephyr skateboard team made famous from the movie Lords of Dogtown and he founded Dogtown Skateboards which was the successor to Zephyr representing the skate culture of Dogtown(Venice,California)
“As long as your heart beats… pledge your allegiance “ This is probably my fave anti PMRC song. If you truly want to understand SxTx then go see em live! 🤘
I've waited forever for you to react to this song. Ice-T is actually a huge fan of them and made his own version of their song Institutionalized which is the next song of theirs that you should react to. Or check out his band Body Count's cover of Slayer's Raining Blood.
The number of times in my youth I either split my chin, knees or elbows skating to ST in my headphones is innumerable. There music did and still does fire me the fuck up
So I don't know if you two actually read these, but as a teen in highschool when they dropped thier first record Suicidal Tendencies it was pure punk. Short songs with just powerful riffs that stood above most other punk bands back then. Exceptions...Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys. After thier debut record is when they became an enigma beyond what anyone else really had heard. Thrash rap is what I can think of. It's in its own category. They were kinda the grandfather's of whatever this sound is. Alot of people were pissed because the punk sound was infectious. When they went thrash it turned alot of people off, but gained a different audience. Luckily I have been there from the start. Mike Muir has seen alot of different line ups in his band, but they are all fire. This band is an absolute original. From the depths of the ashes grew a great Phoenix!!!Suicidal Tendencies!!!! Check out "Subliminal " or "Won't fall in love Today". Off the first record. You can do both because they are so short.
This song was their response to the powers that be banned the band from playing in L.A. for a while for "suspected" gang ties. The guitarist in the stove pipe Pittsburgh Pirates hat that was doing all the shredding Is Rocky George, one of the sickest guitarist ever!!!! Also, did you notice a very young Robert Trujillo on bass? Went on later to become Metallica's current bassist. SUICIDAL FOR LIFE 🤘🤘🤘
1st metal show I ever went to..... almost 35 yrs ago. They opened with this song and I was NOT ready lol. Caught a boot to the face from a crowd surfer and my nose was gushing blood. Security was cool and gave me a towel and some water. Cleaned up right there up in front by the stage and rocked on. Even caught a drumstick later in the show. I'll never forget that show.

Fun fact is Rob from Metallica used to be the bass player for Suicidal and now Robs son is in the band. There are so many songs from Lights, Camera, Revolution that you should check out. It's probably the best ST album ( my opinion of course ).

This album along with others of theirs and other bands around that time helped keep me sane, probably helped keep me alive too. Great reaction lads to a great band.
They were more hardcore/punk when they started in the 80's and they went in a more thrash direction on this album. They were like THE band with "thrashers" in the 80's and 90's, which was a term for skaeboarders who terrorized the city streets by skating on everything in sight. D.R.I. is another similar band that was big with that scene.
What a classic. One of my favorites by them. They are indeed pretty old now as they have been around since the 80s. Musically they are pretty much a hardcore punk and thrash metal crossover so you were right on track. Their name can be quite misleading though because their music and messages are often significantly more uplifting and positive than their name suggests lol.
Good morning Gentlemen and all you others. I was 16 years old when the song was released. But it was not only a " song ", it was - and still is 🤘! - a hymn. Well, here and there, then and when.... i feel like shit 🤣! Hollywood, Smokey, thank you from an old german girl 🤗
That line up was so bad ass with Robert Trujillo on bass who went on to play for Ozzy and now Metallica. Rocky George on lead guitar, just an awesome lineup. Pretty cool that ST now has Dave Lombardo formerly of Slayer playing drums.
Not anymore. Lombardo joined Testament, and he was NOT on the drums when I saw them Labor Day weekend. However, Robert Trujillo's son is their current bass player, and that boy kicks ass.
ST! Me and my skater punk friends would cruise around in the 90's when we were like 16 and fuck shit up listening to these guys. Massive vandalism occurred. It was glorious!
Great song! Great reaction! I'm surprised you haven't reacted to Institutionalized yet. It's pretty much ST's biggest "hit." You should check out the song This Is Now by the band Hatebreed. Don't let the band name fool you. It's great hardcore metal with a positive message. I think because the singer, who had a very tough life, writes lyrics about persevering thru tough times.
Y’all gotta give “Controlled by Hatred “ a shot. Don’t know if anyone else put y’all down but the bassist of this band is now the bassist for Metallica
ST had that "gang" look in the 80's and 90's and referred to their fans as the ST Army. They were actually banned from performing in LA for alleged gang affiliations , hence the newspaper headline at the start. Another great song to check out is "Waking the Dead". It doesn't get as much regcognition, but it's a banger.
ST is a staple of punk/metal/crossover/thrash. they also even played funk as infectious grooves. if you really wanted to see the way ST made the path of all styles. then i would say start from their first album self titled and then go to them all in order. they truly are probably the best at bringing something new to each step of the way. but my favorite album is join the army. i think it hits that west coast gang mentality that they strived on. i will sub to your channel in hopes of seeing that reaction.

Great reaction video as always dudes. Here's a hypothetical 'what-if' for you: What if Rocky (the lead guitarist) joined Ice-T's band Body Count? Imagine the possibilities there. Imagine both Ernie C. and Rocky playing onstage together. How AWESOME would that be. In my opinion that's what it might have sounded like if Kerry King from Slayer and Kirk Hammett from Metallica had ever played onstage together in their early days. Kind of how Miyako and Midori sound like from Lovebites. And speaking of Lovebites, how about doing a reaction to the Lovebites song Set The World on Fire (Live version).

What if Rocky (the lead guitarist) joined Ice-T's band Body Count? Imagine the possibilities there. Imagine both Ernie C. and Rocky playing onstage together. How AWESOME would that be.
In my opinion that's what it might have sounded like if Kerry King from Slayer and Kirk Hammett from Metallica had ever played onstage together in their early days. Kind of how Miyako and Midori sound like from Lovebites.
And speaking of Lovebites, how about doing a reaction to the Lovebites song Set The World on Fire (Live version).
It's skate_thrash metal. Suicidal were huge with skateboarders.. Rocky George is a pipe swinging badass on guitar. Criminally underrated
