The thing about Gary Moore is that he had more heart than the metal players and more technique than the blues players and that's what made him so blisteringly soulful.
What a brilliant rocking son, Paddy looked he was about to jump up and start of a guitar and about to let rip, This sing I think had a reference to Gary dear dear friend and blood brother Phil Lynott I still miss Gary Paddy and of course the greatest rocker of all times Phil Lynott
Picked up the guitar after listening to this song on chart attack 34 years ago in Abbasiya, Kuwait..now living in the same land this episode was filmed. RIP Gary Moore
Gary Moores guitar playing cannot be matched, his passion in his playing is legendary... Rip Gary and Gay Byrne... Of course hes playing Greenie, now Kirk Hammets guitar...
In 1987 I was 20 Years old and Gary Moore was my God , but this Song with Paddy was the Highlight i´ve ever seen from Gary and I love Ireland and his great Musicians 🤩
That's what I was thinking, but I noticed during his solo that he has the neck pickup turned the right way. He apparently tried it like this for a while before deciding the magic was in the reverse pickup and had it switched back.
AMEN to that - - I've never heard this live rendition, great intro & interview by the host as well! Now I just need to check out some of his blues stuff also. Peace to you Pally!
If you wanna understand RARE, the neck pickup of the Greeny is actually NOT flipped here. That was just for a very short period of time when Gary was trying to figure out if he wants to "fix" the guitar or not.
Wow what a gem, I just ran across this video for the first time. Gary Moore was one of my favorite guitarists and was very underrated. This video may be old, but it really put a smile on my face.
Is that Greeny's Les Paul? Tragic that we'll never see the likes of this again; The Chieftains are thoroughly enjoying themselves with a song practically made for them. Gary and Phil Lynott liked a bit of Irish legend and intrigue, but who doesn't. Gary was very savvy, flexible and intuitive. That's why he remained relevant and popular for as long as he did. If people wouldn't have expected this to work, it fecking did, because it's folk rock gone metal. That backing band are session musicians or Gary's boys? We can't ask Gay Byrne now (RIP).

A heart warming thing! seeing these awesome older Guys playing with Top notch Gary! and band this was Garys best work! mixing Celtic tunes with hardrock! in My opinion all hail! 10/10! as allways with Gary!

I see Neil Murray on bass and this was 1987? Neil played on the Whitesnake album at this point and then toured with the Japanese band Vow Wow around Europe, busy bass player
This was actually 1988. The giveaways being Neil Carter with short hair and that Gary had released the Wild Frontier album 'last year' (in '87). Gary and Neil went to Ireland at the beginning of '88 to start working on material for the After The War album, so this performance is possibly from around then? Neil Murray would, of course, join Tony Iommi and Cozy Powell a year later, in Black Sabbath.
Perfect song for St. Patrick's Day 2024. And a brilliant performance as well.
Neil Murray can be found in the background of countless awesome performances from countless awesome musicians.
Oh my God! That was just fantastic! One of my favorite Gary Moore songs.
The thing about Gary Moore is that he had more heart than the metal players and more technique than the blues players and that's what made him so blisteringly soulful.
Yes, a musical giant that never ever will be again! But personally not so much, he kicked everybody in the balls who was with him!
Very well said friend.
Just unbelievable. There is no much music at once possible anymore...RIP legends and thanks for all!
Gary and Paddy, they contributed so much to our musical heritage. Great to see them immortalised together in this performance.
Gary with greeny rest in peace legend. He was and always one of the greatest guitar hero for me 😢
What a brilliant rocking son, Paddy looked he was about to jump up and start of a guitar and about to let rip, This sing I think had a reference to Gary dear dear friend and blood brother Phil Lynott I still miss Gary Paddy and of course the greatest rocker of all times Phil Lynott
Gary Moore and The Chieftains. Pure gold.
So special
two legends
It is said that there are some good guitar players, some great players and then there is Gary Moore 💔RIP, Gary 💔
👍
Picked up the guitar after listening to this song on chart attack 34 years ago in Abbasiya, Kuwait..now living in the same land this episode was filmed.
RIP Gary Moore
There is no word to describe how brilliant this is. But I’ll give it a go. AMAZING 👏👏👏🙌
This is how this version should be played. THE BEST WAY TO REMEMBER IRISH MUSIC

One of a kind! Missed all the way back from 2011
The lads are having too much fun!
His music lives on! Will never be forgotten!
Gary Moore in prime TV doing a live show, not playback. GOld times.
3:16... When Gary takes up the melody and Paddy Whoops.....PURE MUSIC..❤️❤️
this is priceless. The great GM singing and playing within himself in deference to Paddy and his band
It's great seeing Gary play with 'Greeny'. R.I.P Gary, you're still missed.
That's what I was thinking, but I noticed during his solo that he has the neck pickup turned the right way. He apparently tried it like this for a while before deciding the magic was in the reverse pickup and had it switched back.
Is that Greeny? It looks like a different Les Paul cause it doesn't have the reverse neck pup.
@@RJW14 but you see the stretch under the bridge pickup
It's really difficult to say who is the best, but Gary Moore is surely one of the best.
The Guitar Legend with one of the Best Rock Song in History
I absolutely love Gary Moore. Yes, yes, yes he'll aways be missed.
That middle part with all of them together from 3:11 onward... Amazing.
I don't mind Nightwish's version, but they can't touch this.
AMEN to that - - I've never heard this live rendition, great intro & interview by the host as well! Now I just need to check out some of his blues stuff also. Peace to you Pally!
Gary and the blues go together like Peter Green and the blues.
I beg to not differ
It's because Tarja sings it in falsetto, this song needs full voice singing
Gary wrote the song....his way is the best way !
great live performance with the brilliant Chieftians.
How can anyone not like this guy, LOVE YOU GARYYYYY RIP. He was ahead of his time. Just compare this with the theme from game of thrones.
Gary was the best . ❤
Gary Moore making it look easy and doing it very well.
That TV studio was Rocking!
I don't know why,but I feel this is heavier than any kind of heavy metal music, and I'm a die hard metalhead~
Gary was shredding at 18 years old, he was the best
Unlike most metal guitar wannabes of the time, Gary Moore was a true born and bred guitar badass. He knew how to blow people away.
Saw Gary on the after the war tour in March 1989 he was a true guitar hero sadly gone but not forgotten!
Music spans generations, religions, politics, countries and bring peace where there is war.
Gary could play anything, great to see him here with Peter Green`s Les Paul guitar.
Kirk's a great guitarist, but I still don't think he's worthy of that guitar.
@@exdeus5940 I don`t think anyone who knows the history of it believes he should have it either. But he bought it far and square.
Great performance ! He was a great singer and a great guitarist. He wasn't conceited like some musicians and he was always friendly !!!
Sadly not the case ,as brilliant as he was ,he could be arrogant sometimes and wasn't always friendly.
Putting aside comments about his personality he was a brilliant guitarist who passed away far too young.☮️🎸☮️☮️🏴🇺🇲🇺🇲🎸🎸
One of the most under appreciated guitarists of all time, utterly phenomenal player and song writer. Still missed dearly.
Underappreciated? Are you joking man?

What a Legend! I love Gary so Much! What a Monster player and singer!
I love how they all enjoy playing the song (one of my most beloved, btw.). Excellent performance.
i love how The Chieftains add 200% 'irishness' to songs
It's already very Irish, in fact the whole album has a celtic influence to it.
Genuine musicians enjoying genuinely. All of them. Great to see, thanks a lot for sharing.
