- "Over The Hills and Far Away" is one of Gary Moore's most played song on guitar, but how is it really played?
Gary had a lot of tricks up his sleeve - but luckily I found out how he's playing the song both on the album and live and will show it to you.

This is so incredible. My father and I met you at that last concert in Denver. You were so nice, as well as the members of Sabaton. Thank you for one of the greatest nights of our lives. I watch all your videos.
Music lesson and some interesting metal history as well! You should keep "Fiddeli doo" for future use 🤘 Thanks Tommy!
I would like to know how to play the guitar but this is the Himalayas of difficulties for me.😳😔 so I will stick to praising and bowing for your talent.🤘😊 good night🥱🌛😋
Gee, this sounds kinda familiar Tommy...hahaha thanks Tommy.. I'll try that way

It's actually "fiddle-dee-doo"
Tack!

💯💫 jättebra du spelar på dina elgitarrer tommy.💥🎸💖🎸💥
Thank you Tommy I'll have to get my Fender Squier warmed up again. I haven't played in a while but your vids inspire me to start again. 🙂
Great playing - those fiddeli doos is called ornaments.
The "fiddeli doo" made my lunchbreak a better lunchbreak😂 sitting outside, somewhere in front of the school because the normal place to hang out while lunchbreak is under construction for some reason, sun shining right into my face and laughing about some fiddeli doo, that’s how I love to spend Tuesday afternoons xD
Don’t forget your guitar‘s little brother! A beautiful tiny version hehe👀
I should dig out my dusty acoustic guitar that hasn’t been used in years tho.
Great video as always!🔥
@@patrikjhansson6985 …NO- I’m not going to take that musch to school. Nope xD don’t make me think about things😂🥸 ahhh perfect, and I’m not focusing on what I’m actually supposed to do. Again😂🤌 anyway xD
There are never enough GM solos, great! The fiddelidoos are the icing on the cake and the reason the solos are so special, and it is very cool, to get all the background information, thank you for that!!!!
thank you for this! ♥️🤘
These Gary Moore melodies (especially from Wild Frontier) are sooo awesome! Thanks a lot for sharing!! 😊 Love that guitar 🎸 too!
Concerning the Fiddeli-Doo Dog I can't quite decide if I think that he's kinda sweet or rather a bit scary...😉 It's very funny anyway!! 😂😂
Take care and have a great week, you rock!! 🤘
Brilliant lesson Tommy, thank you for sharing
Damn Tommy, it's so nice of you that you care about your fans and listen to requests! You're an amazing guitarist, pianist and singer. I've found you not so long ago and you've become and idol of mine. Thanks to you I want to try to play guitar again and this time with better effects! 🤘🔥💖
Thank you for your amazing lessons!
Totally wonderful🤘🎶🎸💖
Intressant ! 😃👏
This is both funny and awesome. 😄 Sadly, i don't play guitar, but i love watching you play
The same 😂
Yes, fiddeli-doo is the right expression 😂👍🥳 And great playing, and analysis Tommy 🥰
It is funny that Google actually answered with 'Celtic Diplomacy music' on your 'fideli' doo request. Thanks for the lesson!
You're a great teacher, you can do it All, man! I love that fiddli doo in your Bismarck solo. It just added a little sweetness 🎸
Absolutely loved Gary’s Celtic influenced legato lines. Definitely inspired many of us to keep the fiddley doo passion alive.
Wow Tommy... keep going, that amazing !!!
Thank you for this lesson on one of the most iconic songs ever. And your comments on the different ways to play it are reaaally cool. Thanks! Cheers from Brazil, Carlos.
Spot on!
A great lesson..No doubts you are demonstrating good teaching skills👏👏
My first ever favorite guitar solo 😍Also I love all the extra information you gave 🔥
And although I've never picked up a guitar before, I feel like I could learn this solo from the video, when I get my hands on one. 😅

"End Of This Journey" is one of the best songs I've ever listened to. I would love a new interp from yourself on it. Vocal or melody wise or both. Great song!
Glad to hear that! 😃🙏
Thank you for that amazing lesson!
Thank you so much for this tutorial and the additional information!!!
My new housegod, just love it
tommy, i just listened to the new album back to back all the way through. AMAZING, TRULY AMAZING
Love your tutorials, I'm a guitarist myself and you explain so clearly and well. Keep upp the good work man! Greetings from Gävle.
Thanks for the tutorial Tommy 😁😁thank you
Seems so easy, but of
course it isn't.
Find your FIDDELI-DOO 😛
chords AMAZING.
Do you never make a mistake? Looks so simple hihi 🤭
I'm not imitating you, you are way too fast,
but the sound is excellent 👌
I love this song
*Over the Hills and Far Away*
Thanks a lot!👍
Wish you a nice week too
Tommy 💙
Bye bye 👋 🇳🇱 🙋🏼♀️
Love the fact that you do these videos :) . My fingers are better suited for relieving tension in muscles but I so enjoy watching and listening to you
Fan vad du är grym tommy 🤘🏼
Awesome 🤩🎸
🥸
Ever since we had that skype session and talked about it, I haven't played it any other way 😁. Thanks for uploading these tutorials, you're a great teacher Tommy 😄🤘🏻
You, of course, play this so well, but I also appreciate greatly that your explanation is so clear and demonstrated so well. Thank you for making this! Seriously - that Irish sound Moore did so well is so beautiful and you play it so perfectly, it's fantastic to have an instructional video from you in particular on this! (And, sorry, even if I learn what they're properly called, I'm never going to call them anything other than 'fiddeli-doos' 😄)
I don’t know much about guitars but all I can say is that I find you so talented and you play so beautifully, specially that guitar 🎸 ❤
Fiddeli Doo 😂 that's so funny
Thanks for this motivating Video, now I will take my guitar and learn to play this song 🎸👍
Great Tutorial! I tried to learn your version about 6months ago - bit I guess i got a bit sloppy. -So tightening things up. AGAIN 😎😎Amazing that Gary used almost ALL downstrokes. Cheers from Madrid
Good job 👏
Riktigt bra grejer. Sen även: Living ain't no crime. Det är något extra med trioler. 😀
Keep up the good work! 🙂
Even though I haven't played an instrument since I was 11 years old I enjoyed this video. A few years ago a friend of mine suggested I take up guitar thought. :-) Hang in there, Tommy, and take care. Thanks for the video!
Fantastic!! Fiddly-doo is perfect lol
I have definitely watched a number of live Sabaton videos to try and figure out what the heck you guys are doing in some parts 😂
🤝 Great
Very informative video.
Isn't the Fiddeli-Doo basically aeolian scales, which they use a lot in celtic/irish folk music?
I'm not really well verserd in musical theory, but I remember watching years ago a Paul Gilbert lesson video on Gary Moore, where he explained it like this.
I know no music theory but Im Irish. A lot of our folk music has "diddly di i"s in them, its a necessity basically for all songs.
There is a Gary Moore & The Chieftains TV version of 1987 on YT. It is great, because the Fiddeli-Doo's are played with real instruments (bodhrán, uilleann pipes, violin, etc) even if the sound is not good. I think this was part of the beginning of folk metal bands like Feuerschwanz (bagpipe, hurdy-gurdy, flute, violin), Saltatio Mortis (2 bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy), In Extremo (huge bagpipes, schalmei, Nyckelharpa), Triddana (bagpipe, flute) and others. The metal instruments give the massive foundation for the songs and the traditional instruments the melodies. I love it, because I get the cool guitar solos, tons of drums and bass, and a unique sound. Wonderful!
Very Great Fiddeli- Doo!😂 See you in May 25th. In Hamburg!!! Da Reißen wir die Bude ab!!!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘🤘
Now all I need is a physical guitar, it's kinda hard to air guitar on this song. I love all of your videos and for some reason unknown to me every time I see you've posted a new video I have to scream your name. You've got a super fan here.
Tommy Love your covers and your guitar chops!!
Would you please cover Rectify by Gary Moore next the riffs are so sick on this song! Thanks 🤘
I can only imagine if you had ever got a chance to join/play with Lizzy!
Never would see it coming you would play some Thin Lizzy. Would be amazing to see you play a full cover of any song of them
ty bro, can u do more gary moore tutorials, this is amazing
Man, how do you get that tone?! Sounds so clean 👌
I'm not a guitar player and feel it is too late to start, but I enjoyed the explanation none the less.
Tommy just heard your new Majestica song Metal United and absolutely loved it! Is there a new album coming anytime soon? I am a fan of your music and I live in the US. Thanks for great melodic power metal!
Awesome job Tommy can you please do a video on Thin Lizzys Black Rose.
Well I'm no guitarist, so... I'm as confused as a fart in a wicker chair.
I still enoyed it though. Always a pleasure watching a master at his craft.
Cheers från Bollnäs :)
I am never going to say legato anymore, it's all fiddleleedoo from now on :D
... okay, now I have to grab my Celtic music cds to listen to again. 😉 I think the "fiddeli-doo", besides being an adorable dog, is the type of musical trill used in reels, one of the classic type of songs from Irish folk music. It feels more like part of a reel instead of a jig to me, at least. (Side note: at least that instrumental trill isn't insane like some classical vocal stuff a la Handel... (shudders))
I'm always so impressed when watching someone being as good at something as you are with that guitar, but also very confused since I don't know anything about how it's done. Probably because there is a small voice in my head telling me I wanna be able to do that as well. Oh, and Fiddeli-Doo is really cute. lol
Oh yes, and I remember watching the Gary Moore Videos on MTV in the 80's, when MTV was still something to watch. Geez I'm old. Haha
🤘🎸❤
Awesome! Can we now get for Majestica songs as well? (Above the sky, Metal United etc) And maybe even some Sabaton songs too? (even though it's easier to find tabs/lessons for them)
Thumbs up for Fiddly-Doo's... 😆😆👍👍
So it‘s just like with Smoke on the Water, which in the original version isn‘t actually played with an open D and G string, but starts on 5-5 on the A and D string. 😁
🐕 🎸 🔥 👏
Espero tu respuesta
Awesome Tommy. And obviously on the GM Charvel you had made a few years back :D
Of course! 😃
can we aprecciate the amazing guitar tone in this video? it sounds realy nice
Wonderful, Tommy!!
Sorry for such a question, but which company would you recommend an electric guitar? I've been playing acoustic for a long time, but I don't have an electric guitar:(
Watching your videos, I had a desire to save up for this :)
Smile like the Sun✌️😉😉😇🌹🎩🍀☀️🙏♥️🪄
Those fiddledeedoos are actually called trills here in the U.S.🤣
🤘😎
Could you please make another video for the solo, outro solo and other parts of the song?
It is so nice that you remember your fans. By the way, do you come to Finland? Grandma from Finland.😊
I love fiddeli-doo :D
Thankfully no one here called this a Nightwish song like everywhere else. I always found it weird, because it were a huge hit in Europe when Gary Moore released it.
Great Tommy 🤘 Is it the Jb pick in that guitar or the Distorsion ? Keep On Rockin 🤘
Fiddely doo killed me😂
Fiddle dee doos 🤣 … and then it turns out to be a Rottweiler 🤣🤣👍🏼 classic!!!
👌👍👍👍
RIP Garry 🙏. 🤘❤️🤘
