Quick fix from Car Wizard: Spray two shots of Quick Start into the air filter box, but first deflood. Hold the key when it fires just to assist till it establishes. Magic. Thanks for your videos.
Now you a man that knows his stuff. Most guys go too far talking about removing plugs cat etc. I had the same problem and saved myself time and money. Thank you sir.
On a left hand drive car there is a screw holding the radio in, I think on a left hand drive the screw in on the right side. You have to remove a plate under the steering column.
It was just flooded! This can happen if you leave it sitting to long, or this will happen every time if you don't let it get to running temp before you turn it off. Starting when your RX8 is flooded is easy. Hold your foot on the gas pedal all the way to the floor, and turn over for ten seconds and then wait ten seconds before starting again, and repeat this ten times. Holding the gas pedal all the way down will prevent any gas from being added to the engine, and the ten seconds between turn overs will stop the starter motor from over heating. On the eleventh time start with your foot all the way down on the gas pedal, then while still turning over, slowly release your foot from the pedal until the car starts, hold your foot where it started to keep it going, until the car has reached running temp, just under half way on the temperature gauge. After that you can turn it off, and it should start up again fine without touching the pedal. All in all it only takes about four or five minutes and you don't even have to look in the engine bay. P.S This has nothing to do with compression, or seals, or oil, or timing. Mine is the 2006 RX8, I am the second owner, and have had it for over 8 years, and have flooded it twice. Once because I got up half asleep to move it out of the driveway to let another car out, I started it and only went down the short drive and parked on the street right outside, and turned it off without letting it get to running temp. And once because I let it sit for a couple of weeks while away.
This is great information, normally I leave my car running I don’t just cut it off but I have done it wrong many times. Especially when moving cars around
@@mazdarx8diy38 Yeah, that's how I got caught out to. Lesson learnt the hard way. But once you know, you know to keep it in mind when ever you do have to start it up for a short run.
@@robertpascua5432 No you really don't need to. The computer won't allow the fuel pump to engage while your foot is all the way down on the gas, and the car is not running.
Absolutely a flooded engine there mate. Having done this personally before on my RX8 my only advice would have been to not turn it over for as long as you were.. You'll end up burning the starter motor out. Just give it a turnover for 10 seconds, give it a few seconds to cool down, and start again. That said, it's a simple process of having to keep turning it over and over to flush the excess petrol. When finishing a spirited drive I always let the car sit in idle for a min or two, and then throttle to 4-5k RPM and hold it for about 5 or 6 seconds just to flush out any carbon build up too. Next bit of advice... Never ever rev a cold engine like that or you'll end up a rebuild in no time. Actually hurt me watching that! RX8's really don't respond well to being red lined or even heavily revved when cold. Give it a few mins for the engine to warm itself up and let her rip!
Thanks so much for your advice, when my car did not want to start it was really frustrating and then I just try to do anything to get it started again, sometimes doing something stupid like Raving it up on cold, But since this video my RX8 starts up good now, but I got a new problem, my radiator is leaking, and this was a problem to start, I bought it like that
Mine one is not start I take to the service and them change my fuel pump which not look new to me. But now my petrol run out from the pump and every time I drive is smell petrol till now.dont know what they do.and what I need to tell them to do. I already paid for it.im from sout africa.
@@sanviti My rx8 stinks of petrol every time I drive it. The rx8 drives very rich and because of the high temperatures the CAT usually fails, only making more emissions fumes through the exhaust. As long as it drives fine you're ok :)
Again wait till the airbag light goes out. Turn the key wait till light turn off then start. That lets the ecu know if hot or cold to put right amount of fuel in
unfortunately, you motor is subject to the same issues as all early Gen RX8. You have bad apex seals, side seals that are not providing enough compression or your rotor housings have missing chrome and causing compression loss. Either of those issues means the motor needs a rebuild. The only way you're going to know is with a compression test (using a rotary compression tester only) if your compression is acceptable, you could look at the ignition system, but that's probably not the case. The RX8 doesn't have a closed loop fuel system like early injection systems with a pressure regulator returning fuel to the tank. The pump is a speed regulated pump that runs at different rpms to provide the correct fuel pressure throughout the rpm range of the motor, controlled via the ECU. That is why there is no regulator or return line to the tank
Thanks that’s really good information, but my RX8 still starts good after that time, it also had good acceleration and fun to drive, I did the mid pipe and replaced all vacuum houses and all Intake Solenoids, and doing pre mixing so far so good, I bought air intake, oil catch can and some other things to upgrade it, also will buy a tuner
@@mazdarx8diy38 Does it easily start hot? again, the only indicator for you to know what the condition of your motor is a rotary compression test. low compression engines still run, however hot starts issues will become apparent and will increase over time. Even spun bearing motors still run, but not for long...
Definitely sounds like low compression especially since the engine has 120k miles on it and by the look of that poor 8 it probably was not maintained properly at all. I am going to take a guess and say the rotor housings are the culprit to the low compression, probably chipped to hell and have chatter marks all over the place
If u want to k kw the answer you kind of answered it yourself. Look up dry and wet compression testing! That's pretty much what's happening. Cyclinders getting wet and starting. Then when its warming up they cylinders sealing itself off! Rebuild time!
Great information, thanks for taking your time to answer me, I just bought a Mazda Compression tester and planning to test compression sometimes next werk
My 2004 rx8 has no power when you start off and bogs of you push accelerator for more speed but as it slowly picks up speed it will haul butt. What is up? I hate my car acting like a 71 pinto station waggon
Check vacuum lines and Solenoids, there might be a problem, also maybe there’s to much carbon buildup in intake manifold, also highly likely that you have a clogged cat

Does your RX8 quits running? How long before it stops running, if that’s the case, try cleaning or replacing your crank shaft position sensor and ignition coils

Hi i have rx8 13b car broke down scanned it 2 codes misfire cylinder 2 and multiple misfires, have replaced coils, plugs, and still wont start up, also trailer spark plug on cylinder 2 had a little fine metal particles in the plug. when i try to start it i sometimes get a mild back fire, any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm not a rx8 owner in this time but I'll be in the future! 'fine metal particles in the plug' I would remove the spark plugs to take a view inside with a endoscope. I afraid the metal is from the cumbustion chamber. The apex seals and char scrape / damage the chamber. These metal particle short the spark plug so no spark can fire up the casoline. After that I would flood and flash cylinders with oil => petroleum-acetone => oil! Inspect the cylinder with endoscope. Chrank the engine manual to clean / to loosen the seals and dirt. Check the results with compression tests at the whole process.

Depress the gas pedal and crank the engine for a good 5-10 seconds, do this two or three times, just be careful to not cook your starter. After that, attempt to normally start the engine. This method prevents the computer from adding additional fuel into the chamber and will prevent the spark plugs from fouling any further.
