When Isaiah asked Rob to hook up battery and Rob responded with "I'm your electrical guy" I started busting out laughing because the wiring madness rob had laid out all over the engine bay of the 3-rotor while he had it running popped in my head, lmfao.

The RX8 videos are already my favourite on the channel. Personally I'd love to see a hacked together supercharger or turbo setup on this, or for Rob to get a rival RX8 to build the ultimate RX8 setup on.
Whilst I'm older and have a little experience on cars, this is the stuff I love to see. Why? Because it introduces/motivates 16..20 year olds to start working on cheap cars they can afford, and then they can go on to do awesome stuff.
I mean it is the “superior chassis” I’ve always liked the RX8. I never had a issue with it other then them not making a turbo model. The Mazdaspeed bumper and kit are all you really need to make them look amazing. I’m glad you guys did this Isaiah.
I'm rebuilding a small engine myself and I can attest to the importance of just taking things apart and buying twice as many seals and springs as you think you will need.

@@aserta wankel by nature does not have enough time to burn all the fuel and air mixture. It also has to throw in oil for lubrication on the seals spinning along with rotors. Synthetic oils are made to resist heat and not combust like fuel. So they leave a lot of unburnt deposits inside the rotor housing, exhaust port, and on the rotor itself. They will seize the seals in place and prevent getting good compression, attract fuel to the carbon build up and have hot spot detonation, and they can build up on the side exhaust ports of Renesis, catch and break the side seals, killing the engine.

I think the best part of these is that, while a little complex to assemble/disassemble rotor wise, the general size/weight of the rotary makes it feasible for a dude in a not large garage to tear down and rebuild one without cramming up the space. Put it on a shop table and go to work!
Rob, saran wrap. Pack a side and then stretch saran wrap over it for the flip. It'll hold everything in place while you work on it. Make sure the saran wrap will be on the top when you flip it back over on install.
His Dad accidentally dropped a rotor on his head as a child. He was never quite the same after that. They said he couldn't comprehend shapes with more than 3 sides for the first 20 years of his life.
LoL, after watching several of robs rotary and rx8 videos... I feel i could get glossy eyed and wrench on a rotary as well... Its like a two stroke motorcycle... Light weight...revs high...goes fast...requires a steady eye to make sure things stay running primo. Youve convinced me to get a rx8...dahm you Rob...
@@F3Ibane With Rob getting into machining, and eventually doing his own billets, I think there's hope for the Renesis. Two major issues need to be solved, how the ports breathe and the cooling issue that melts seals. Rob is already messing with how ports breath on one of the other rotaries. The cooling issue would be solved with better designed parts, hence why manufacturing custom parts from billets is important here. The Renesis design has potential, but that potential isn't met due to manufacturing corner cutting from Mazda, such as not grinding out better ports for better airflow characteristics, or the cooling issue that could be fixed with a more efficient cooling design. If Rob, the team, and probably some helping hands that actually studied thermodynamics and engineering, can produce a modified Renesis design that fixes the issues, think about what other fringe experiments Rob could get into that're mostly untouched in the rotary world. Stuff like what Paul Lamar was into and some of the stuff like what the person who runs the Pattakon website is into. If Rob is willing to dip his feet into the waters of fringe experiments with design, things could get super interesting.

I just rebuilt my S1 RX-8, and while yes, you can build them on a bucket, the engine stand heads aren't too expensive or hard to get. I spent a little more, but that said, You got off luckier than me. My original engine had spat side seals out the exhaust, and cracked 6 corner seals, coolant seals, and all but 3 oil control ring soft seals. That engine is partly in my closet, and the e-shaft and flywheel (which are still in great nick) are now bedroom ornaments, while the rotors from the that block live on in my rebuilt engine, because I cleaned them up when I tore that engine down, and the bearings were in superb shape, unlike the rotors that came out of my replacement engine. Rotary engines are a crapshoot when it comes to used engines, but they are a fucking blast to rebuild. The original engine I have will be ported, and I'll buy new housings for it, but the plates will remain, as I can use the valve grinding paste on another plate trick to clean those up, with a streetport job. Can't wait to see more, guys.
He used a fucking auto screwer instead of proper tool to put it together and you ask about seals XD it's fun cheap project for them, designated to be blown up eventually
@@versedi The battery torque wrenches can be adjusted to a specific torque. He did that. Then tightened it again with a proper torque wrench. What are you so mad about?

I love this RX-8 video series! That's how I got my first rotary experience, unfortunately I had a bad introduction early on due to "rotary experts" not willing to answer my questions/teach me what I needed to know. Thankyou thankyou Isaiah for doing this I loved watching this mini series
Thank you guys for putting this video together! I’m planning on picking up a cheap RX8 and this video really helped! I am mechanically inclined but rotaries are brand new to me. Excited to try them out!
What an epic rebuild! I enjoyed it. Funny enough Car Throttle featured Robbie at SEMA once and shortly after they did a RX8 rebuild that turned out epic. I am really glad to see it run, good luck Isaiah and i hope it gets a snail attached to it soon!
I just got started watching your videos, because I have been fascinated by the rotary engine for some time. Back in the eighties, I had two of them, and was blown away by the acceleration and the way that they would wind out. These cars were Arizona cars, and were faded and a bit shabby from the sun and heat. I was sitting at a stop light one afternoon waiting for it to change and a young guy with a brand new Camaro pulled up next to me. I saw him sneering at me, and decided to teach him a lesson. I guess he figured that I would just poke along. When the light changed, I left him sitting there and was gone in a cloud of smoke. The motor quit soon after. I was used to piston motors, and could work on them without too much trouble, but when my dad tore into that rotary I was amazed by the seeming complexity of the things. It took me years to understand how they even worked. They seemed to be somewhat fragile to me. One thing I would like to say, is that Isaiah doesn't inspire a lot of confidence with what seems like a half assed couldn't give a shit attitude, and I wouldn't be surprised if the bong was getting a bit of a workout. I don't know you guys, so I haven't decided yet, not perhaps that you should care. If you're just doing this for a hobby, I guess impressions won't matter, but if you're in this to make money you might want to tighten it up a bit; just a thought...
I want a Renesis in an NC Miata so bad it hurts. It should be the easiest swap on Earth; idk why no one does it. So much cooler than the 2.5 Duratec paint-shaker swap.
That large ring is called a Blowby scraper ring. It helps to close off the ports to the oil control rings under it, because of the exhaust port, and the intake port shapes.
I have seen one sitting in someone's side yard for about 3 years since i started my job at the local dodge dealer. Never worked on a rotary a day in my life. But Isaiah has tempted me to make an offer on it and see whats wrong.
I never plan on building a rotary, but I'm watching this like there is a test later.
I want one in the future, but I feel what you said a lot haha
Have an 12a in my garage.. will pull it apart this winter. Curious how much these videos will help me

I think the best part of these is that, while a little complex to assemble/disassemble rotor wise, the general size/weight of the rotary makes it feasible for a dude in a not large garage to tear down and rebuild one without cramming up the space. Put it on a shop table and go to work!
"Valves tapping" you're driving me nutz! Parts tree fiddy. Robs labor: more than u can afford pal
Rob, saran wrap. Pack a side and then stretch saran wrap over it for the flip. It'll hold everything in place while you work on it. Make sure the saran wrap will be on the top when you flip it back over on install.
Does Rob have an origin story like Spiderman where he got bit by a radioactive rotary engine?
Hit. Got hit.
He was on the bachelorette.
More like got bit by rotary workshops.
His Dad accidentally dropped a rotor on his head as a child. He was never quite the same after that. They said he couldn't comprehend shapes with more than 3 sides for the first 20 years of his life.
Was on my RUclips recommended. Funny stuff .
Is anyone gonna talk about how RUclips recently recommended Rob's bachelorette exploits 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why not me.......cheese and rice
Clue me in
This video from start to finish just felt like such good fun. Awesome job guys.
It's always good to see a cat find a good man servant.
Thats it Isaiah is the star of this channel now. I'm loving the chemistry yall have.
I want to see Isaiah's love of RX-8s to turn into Renesis builds that rival Rob's various engingines.
If this dude builds a 4-rotor renesis I may never wear clean pants again
I've been saving up for an RX8 and this video came out right when I needed it
Dang, rebuilding a renesis seems like a lot of fun, I MUST RESIST BANKRUPTCY.
You can pick them up all day for like $1500 or less not running lol They're cheap cheap
@@drkhancock14 I'm in the EU, cheapest is like 2500 eur without discussing the price. Body is mint too, still cheap. But I simply don't have a place to keep the car for long periods of time or the tools.
@@MiGujack3 and you will need that space :( lol. I still say if you have the money and the desire, you can always back out later and turn around and sell it. You might lose some euros but the experience will be great fun/frustration that you will never forget.
@@NotJo4Ever13 I would definitely sent it if I had the space because no one wants those cars.
Watching this has given me new courage to take apart and rebuild the spare RX8 motor my garage.
lmao i love the bro banter
so Rob, when do you build your cheap rx-8 to race together against each other on track? :D
If it was me watching Rob´s channel for the first time, the cat food color matched to Diablo in the background would really give me confidence that they know what they are doing.
3rd day of asking rob to rebuild my 13b renesis, pretty please.
"thats cus you sound all white like" LMFAO
It's about time we had a real How to rebuild RX8..... thanks guys..!!!
In the case of rebuilding a high mileage rotary like this why do you not replace all of the rotor seals and springs with new ones?
i think the idea in this case is to do it as cheaply as possible
He used a fucking auto screwer instead of proper tool to put it together and you ask about seals XD
it's fun cheap project for them, designated to be blown up eventually
@@versedi The battery torque wrenches can be adjusted to a specific torque. He did that. Then tightened it again with a proper torque wrench. What are you so mad about?
i am rotary swapping a miata and have stopped because i thought a rebuild would cost too much. this changes everything.
So close to 1 millions subs you can do it rob it’s been a long journey together but I feel you’ll have it by years end!!!
The fact that you guys are able to spend all this time doing what you are passionate about is awesome. I dont even enjoy working on cars but I enjoy watching the journey all of you are on. But before I continue I want to take the time to tell you about my sponsor Keeps....
2:50 cute shade of pink on those nails rob
13:35 one small spring said goodbye💀
hopefully they noticed and fixed it🥲
I love this RX-8 video series! That's how I got my first rotary experience, unfortunately I had a bad introduction early on due to "rotary experts" not willing to answer my questions/teach me what I needed to know.
Thankyou thankyou Isaiah for doing this I loved watching this mini series
Keep it simple, love it. Including the raw humor.
This RX-8 project is really fun. And being my first car that I totalled off years ago. I love seeing someone bring one back to life.
Thank you guys for putting this video together! I’m planning on picking up a cheap RX8 and this video really helped! I am mechanically inclined but rotaries are brand new to me. Excited to try them out!
i love the dynamic between those two, the funniest car guys on youtube
If I wake up and you guys have a fresh video up it's a good day.
This whole series has been so much fun.
So nice to see you working on the RX-8. For me the best car I've ever driven.
Loving the RX-8 videos! Even though I don't have the space to work on engines
the timing! i was just about to take a shower lol now i got to watch this
This build is all sorts of inspiring, but also serious relationship goals 😊
