I get the impression Rob was reading that apology at gun point. Either that or Isaiah threatened never to do any fabrication work for Rob ever again.
The second seems more believable
It was not an apology. Rob said he would never! 😂
If they had the end of an AK or pistol just tipping in and out if frame it would have made it perfect
I think that was supposed to be the funny part, Leo.
I'm thinking the latter...
Most common defect in any car, the gasket between the steering wheel and the seat
I always have trouble with the nut behind the wheel
@@griffinsells2611 same, it keeps coming loose
Rob I already know that you hate the RX8 and especially the Renesis engine, but as much as I LOVE the FD, I'd really love to see a 20B swapped into a RX8. I'm sure a 13B would be plenty for the RX8 chassis, but a 20B would make it that much better.
When I had my RX-8, I was looking to get a 20b and do a bridge port on top of adding a 50 mil turbo. Would have been epic but life happened and I had to go a different direction.
the chassis is smashed up trash, not worth an expensive engine, just put a 13b and a small turbo on it and be done.
One better. 3 rotor Renesis.
Please 🙏🏻
Mick farrall in Western Australia has built a 20bt rx8. Absolutley bonkers little rig. Has no patience for tyres
Viton O rings are rated for up to 440F, depending on the grade.
The rating is gonna be significantly lower than the melting point
@@tippyc2 them things were vulcanized 🤣
Glad to see the superior chassis up and running again.
Isaiah: I really wanna work on the four rotor, I don’t give a shit about this thing
Also Isaiah: *works alone on his rx8 the whole time*
I think the main majority of the heat damage was done when Isaiah blew the coolant hose and pegged the temp gauge, and it just so happened to be Rob's driving that was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. Those are some pretty gnarly heat spots...
FYI- Rob, impacts dont make linear torque, it won't start an engine....same reason it doesn't catch and rip the handle out of your hands like a drill👍
Yeah I don't think many people understand the "impact" part of "impact wrench". 😂
so what you're saying is he needs to buy a big drill ?
@@2404charles well, my grandpa has a old drill, a bad bitch of a unit
enough torque runin through that gear box to start a big block, enough to rip your fucking arms off too.
@@2404charles Exactly, a drill that could basically rip your arms off...like an old craftsman industrial 🤣
@@djaydeved yup
This has to be one of my favorite videos yet the dynamic between Rob and Isaiah reached a new comedic height in this video. Next time the Renesis breaks 20b time please.
I appreciate the shots of the shop cat. Ever since they first showed up I started calling all cats that I don’t know baby kitty
I had a similar issue in my race truck’s engine. Oil was contaminated with fuel from previous flooding and I didn’t change it before one of its hardest 3 mile runs. It got super hot and oil started to break down and started coking. Irons looked almost identical to yours and almost all springs were flat.
Isaiah didn’t port the exhaust for more power he ported it so carbon doesn’t collect there, and then chunk off taking out side seals. A somewhat common problem remedied by smoothing out that area.
The RX8 is a more modern chassis, I'm glad it's getting the love it deserves.
"Modern" = better! Just like Lizzo is better than Elton John!
@@mikescherrer4923 The chassis and layout is actually arguably better than most other rotaries that have ever come out, the FD is the only comparable one honestly, and even then there are people who prefer the handling of the RX8. The main thing the FD has going for it is the power and the looks, not necessarily the handling.
@@jamtea573 Didn't Rob said he likes more the handling on the RX8 than the others in the same video he blew it? So yeah it's one step forward and another one backward regarding the motor
It's 100% a better chassis. The suspension geometry on RX7's is world class
@@jamtea573 You are right, I was just talking shit lol. I think one issue is the 3rd door adds a lot of weight but yeah it definitely benefits from a decade of suspension and chassis engineering, as well material technology. The FD RX7 was a bubble era car, though, and had more value jammed into it comparatively. They're both cool.
Love how he apologies from a note on the phone and NOT from the heart 😂
I thought Rob was going to send Isaiah a text.
I think the phone was just him shopping for more rotaries while apologizing.
Rob goes "once it warms up I'll take it for a test drive" I died 🤣 don't let him near it! She was violated.
I especially love the engine building vids.....makes me wanna build a rotary of my own SO BAD
I’m obsessed w/ this channel.
First time I’ve ever contributed to a Patreon
Needs that Reni built as a hybrid with regular 13b housings for all the exhaust flow
Replacement bearing in rotor must be staked down or they will spin off. New ones pressed in won't hold as well as OE.
Note to self, install oil temp sensor on my RX8 ASAP lmao.
If you want a good way to clean off the carbon off the rotors super easily. Get gun bore cleaner. Breaks down carbon so much easier than any other method
Clp!
@@aaronhall7740 we use hoppes no.9 gun bore cleaner. Worked amazing
I pray that you had the oil coolers and hoses cleaned
You don't need to make an adapter. They actually had those kinds of adapters. So look for one online because it's possible you can find it for cheapo. Not likely, but possible. Also, use an extender arm. I don't know if it has some kind of torque lock, if it exceeds X it stops, otherwise it will break your arms, this has happened with old engine starters before.
Joel finally getting pull out lessons from the boys, was the clear highlight of this one.
I can't be the only one disappointed that it doesn't have a 3 rotor at minimum by now
That’s what I’ve been thinking the whole time. I thought if rob blew it up, rob gives him a Dahmified engine
@@spazzologist Oem ++
Rob playing with Isaiah's shaft was soo homiesexual😏🤌🏾🤌🏾😂
😂😂
Recently started watching your channel Rob after another late night looking at rotary articles. Very glad I did cause your content is definitely my favorite rn on RUclips and in general. One of the better if not the best RUclips build series/fabrication channels. Love how in depth you go into the builds and also how you and Isaiah explain everything so we understand. I know that all the filming is likely causing the builds to take much longer than if you guys just focused on the building, similar to the situation with Stanceworks. Just wanted to show my thanks to you, Isaiah, Joel, and the rest of the team for doing what you do. Here for more RX8/Renesis content from Rob and the RX8 Daddy
Don't use that impact as a starter for the indycar. The quill shaft won't take the hammering.
Also, I am still REALLY loving your yellow Diablo...I have always been very partial to it's predecessor the Countach (especially a 1987 LP5000S Quattrovalvole in red with gold rims, or black with gold rims), but I love ALL Lamborghinis, so I will always have a place in my heart for the Diablo. I've never been able to own one...yet, but someday I will. Like Wayne Campbell from Wayne's World used to say, "it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine..."
I am literally lying down in bed sick and I haven’t been so excited to see something until this came out
I hope you'll feel better soon
@@matgreggorz2904 thank you. I really appreciate that
@@edwincolon8631 no problem man
Since it was rob who blew the RX8 engine, i think they should swap the 3rotor. only seems fair to me.
I’ve been drinking and I am confident in the fact that rob decided to have a few drinks in celebration of not having to take apart 2 motors
Just wanted to say I really enjoy the RX-8 series and especially the engine rebuild videos.
I'm never going to own a 4 rotor. It's also increasingly unlikely I'll ever own even a normal FD / FC RX-7.
I could own a non-running RX-8 today.
I picked up an rx8 for a project car and am having to rebuild my engine on my own. Local rotary shop said they can't help with renesis engines right now so I have a lot to learn
I love how Robs eyes consistently lines up with the 'e e' in 'keeps' every time.
lol
Is that black crap on the irons possibly melted oring and not damage to the metal?
Think dry-sump oil systems are needed it ya plan on any hooning because it can starve and die. Love how y'all show us this stuff.
Happy for your Isaiah! "Superior chassis" lives again!
"ill take it around the block for you."
that had me dying lmao
Woohoo!! RX8 lives on! I love my 8. Shawn is helping me with the tune, you know him I believe
You should never just resurface or sand the irons. You have to heat treat the surface after taking off top layer. PQP is also good idea.
I think its time to invest on a parts washer
3:08 "it's freaking long" I know this exact acknowledging nod and grin. -🤣
Hey Rob and Isaiah, burnt Viton seals can produce pretty bad byproducts that you probably don’t want to handle with your bare hands 🙌, it’s common in hydraulics that we need to take extra care.
That cranking sound reminds me of my old RX8 with the shitty starter. Having to hold the gas pedal all the way down while cranking it for like 10 seconds… 😩
flooring the gas pedal stops fuel injection to help clear a flood.
@@ValentineC137 Yeah, that’s why I did it.
R3 series 2 starters are best.
@@sofakingdom3076 mine was an 05. Before they started giving them the better starter 😔
@@TXPocks it's not like the other one was any good, they had to upgrade it again 😅
Thankyou cameraman for capturing the cat
More of that pls 💕💕💕
i am an engineer making molds for rubber parts. i work every day designing stuff made out of viton. That o-ring visited hell and back for it to get scorched that bad! if it sees 400 degrees it wont last long, but for it to get that bad, im imagining it was closer to 500 or so degrees or at least at 450 for a while.
Always interesting to hear people how they did,it in details ,no bs, real people…
You should add some funny sound effects when Isaiah is putting the motor together and rubbing that seal on
Isaiah is turning into his own RUclips superstar. I'd watch a channel featuring Isaiah.... Rob you''re going to have to start paying him more!
Thanks for the explanation that you guys aren't just blindly shitting on the Renesis motor, that you are aware of how others are building it up, and that the actual biggest issue is that it doesn't make financial sense to mess with the motor.
you’re more blind than they are
he actually blew it up during the previous rebuild, not on the track
in general, it’s always the people who don’t have any idea what they’re doing that make the rotary engine look bad. It’s not the engine; Renesis or otherwise.
it’s well documented that a properly built NA Renesis will sing out 265-270 bhp, the general issue is that by and large very few people do it properly. No exception here. The only part they got right is that the Renesis costs more, but the drivability you get for the output can’t be matched by the earlier engines.
This a proper Renesis engine

@@nobodyspecial5026 Rewatch timestamp 28:01-28:06 and 28:27-28:30.
Isiah's comments at 28:01 about side plates and hybrid Rensis motors shows he's aware of what others have done. the takeaway is that they are aware of what the motor is capable of.
Rob's comments at 28:27 offer a perfectly reasonable explanation why they won't be perusing the Renesis any more. At the end of the day Dahm racing is a business and they need to do what makes financial sense.
And if you are unfamiliar with hybrid renesis engines: ruclips.net/video/cnNt_meR12Q/видео.html

@@splynncryth Not to mention theres already a slew of ongoing projects, adding a Renesis build ontop of the 4rotor, the indy car, the three rotor, etc is alot to juggle.
@@nobodyspecial5026 Can you tell me how he blew it up during the previous rebuild. I'm not sure and would like to not make the same mistake. thanks
@@danielkruger4305 most likely him not replacing the oil control rings. and just reusing everything...
I love the channel, and loathe rotaries. What I find most enjoyable is being told repeatedly how reliable rotaries are, while they're being rebuilt for the nth time after hardly even a warm up cycle. Good stuff.
I would really want to visit the shop one day! engineering student wanting to learn more about rotary engines.
About the oil, Superfast matt has s600 with a motercycle engine and in long lateral turns his oil pressure dropped and killed the engine becuase it all hanging on 1 side. It could be the same thing with your engine. Adding walls with holes to keep oil in place would be a possible fix! I hope I could help a tiny bit! Thank you for all the videos! dry sump system or whatever it's called.
This reminded me of him too
Good video! Digging watching Isaiah learning and being curious!
bringing back rob dahm vids the correct way okay bro les go
Glad to see it back on the road. And I’m sure Isiah learned a lot building it.
Viton melts at 230 C or 440 F and above so for the oil seals to get that hot I would be checking the oil pump as well it is most likely full of all the rubber in the engine along with all the oil passages they will need to be flushed and brushed out with an engine block brush set. but that should be done on every engine that's being rebuilt whether all the seals were melted or not .
You spraying quick start into the rx-8 should be the intro to all your vids
Tbh I think the renesis was Mazdas attempt at a race engine for the street even more so then other rotaries hence the crazy developed intake and the max effort n/a
the toxic couple arguing at 26:00 had me CRYING
Never noticed RCVD on the roof of the FD.
Respect.
You should stick the exhaust out the hood and make it shoot flames. Definitely wouldn’t blow up or anything
yooo ROB Dahm thats my motor that was in a my turbo RX8 !!!!!!! the one Tanner brung you, a little janky... yesssss BUT it ripped when it ran and yes it was turbo
Great video, Guys! Los pinches Flaming Hots. Ya sabes lol make more videos like this. Not breaking the engine but the tag alongs while Isaiah builds
Damn Rob high af this episode. Non stop giggles and snacking. Lol.
Bmw 2L n20s are known to lose oil pressure on extended high g turns also
I have watched you guys and vargas brothers build a million of these and I still have no idea how you do it lmao
The radiator in S1 and S2 are the same. Everything mounts up the same. The fan itself may be a little different, but the radiator and fan shroud didn't change, much, if at all, in the S2 update. The only thing you may need to do is shave down the upper mounting nuts a little on one side because of the thicker core. :)
Yo its not cuase of the keeps sponsor im actually impressive with how good you hairs look here man you look after yourself an others cheers bro awesome to see 🙌🔥🔥
The joke about Joel pulling out killed me 😂 love the shop shenanigan's as always guys
18:11 that was nice of Isiah to make a protein shake for you.
First vid with a bunch of fun smack talk. I usually watch at 1.25 playback, but this vid is hilarious at 1.25 playback with all the laughing...
Keep more of the banter and talking in the videos I love it
RX8 vids are the best.
Hell yeah man! Want to make my FB run next?😅
Happy to see Tanner with a more major role!
I lost it at the white noise part lolol
Isaiah is holding the shop cat hostage until His engine is rebuilt!
supercharge it or twin charge it would be cool to see.
that turnover at the start sounds like a piston engine with uneven compression between cylinders lol
thanks for all the videos!
My FC is gonna be twincharged
@@claudedottin1312 awesome :D I've owned and driven rotaries since the mid 90s. Always wanted a supercharger for more low end, but it seems the twin scroll turbos almost eliminate that need ... but I'd still want to take on the project some day.
Hope it goes as smooth as a project like that can go! Have a blast for the rest of us when done, share a video if you like! :D
At like 10:45, I love that rob was like "I ruined literally everything in the motor, OTHER than the worst part, so I'm good"
ITS GOOD TO SEE THE CAR THAT BUILT THE CHANNEL IS BACK IN ACTION
That stuff on the side housings is the o-rings baked on
Rob certainly had a type of greens
Loving all the dirty gritty details of this teardown. Someone needs to work on their pull-out game, but we all have to learn some time right? :D
So my takeaway is this: Putting together a 13B isn't terribly complicated, but do make sure to have a friend around to grab your shaft, and second is just to never do anything with a Renesis.
That's it, I think I'm ready for rotary ownership now!
Lord only knows what goes on in that shop when cameras aren’t rolling 🤣
I can’t believe the first start was a push start that’s so fucking badass
So any chance that the oil plug in the eccentric shaft was stuck open like it is during warm-up?????
So I’ve recently ventured into the idea of an Rx8, your genuine comments of never wanting to touch a renesis motor again has officially changed my mind. It’s a bummer but I’m grateful. Thanks guys🙏✝️❤️
Rod said "let me take it around the block for you" 🙂😄😅🤣
Never let anybody drive your cars. You're the only person that knows what your car can handle. The first time I Let somebody borrow my car my CV axles came back crumbling. Left me paranoid to this day.
Best outro in months!
It's a good thing that Rob has all those rotary engines. Can give Isaiah one of them! :D
;)
Nah...he's going to put a small-block Chevy in there, just to annoy Rob.
rob’s laugh is all i’m here for
My Renesis rebuild started first time with no problems. Yours have other issues outside the engine that was overlooked.
There is factory recall for fuel tank ring caps. Take it to dealer and have them replace fuel pump and filter while at upgrading fuel tank cap ring
It was from oil starving from gunning it high RPM around a long corner on the track. Not the engines fault necessarily.
@@dooby1445 no it wasn't. The rx8 engine handles corners fine. They fucked up the rebuild. Either the resused oil control rings were installed backwards or were bad.
surely this is a backlash issue? Same thing happens with high hp 2js, where the crank can shift forward and backward as it beats on the thrust bearing a bit too much
Anything under 25psi reads at the lowest possible point of the sensor. It's in the directions on that compression tester. Lol
What sealant are they using? The green and blue for the housing coolant seals? Fixing to rebuild
Rob!!! You're back to your channel!!!!
