I’m sure learning new projects today. I have always printed my photos onto the pack of fabric photo paper you buy from the store. I’ll have to try this sometime soon. 👍❤️
@Debora Foote. Hi Debora, Terial Magic is a water soluble stabiliser, so its not really a fixative. We haven't used it on things that will be washed but use it mainly for novelty value such as putting the photos on bags for the family.
When you are using inkjet ink it will wash out. So I would do photo transfer on items that won't be washed. Having said that I did have something I needed to wash so I hand washed it gently in cold water and the photo didn't wash out. Terial Magic is not a fixative it just makes the fabric firm enough to go through the printer.
We haven't used our laser printer for this but here is a link to someone who has imaginationinternationalinc.com/terial-arts/inspire/fabric-labels-lovingly-made-your-printer/
Here is a really good article from So Sew Easy. These ladies have done some extensive testing that may help. so-sew-easy.com/printing-on-fabric-washing/
It works best in an inkjet printer because the ink bonds to the fabric. With a laser printer the toner doesn't tend to bond as well and this means the colours may rub off.
It could wash off Renata, and we tend to make things that don't require a lot of washing. I did a test and gently hand washed one piece and pattern didn't wash out, but as I say I certainly wouldn't use it on something the requires a lot of washing.

When using this for photo transfer, will it remain permanently on the fabric even when it might need to be cleaned by spotting or washing?
When you use it to print a photo onto the fabric, is it permanent or will the photo wash out when the quilt is washed ?

Have you tried using this product as a stabilizer substitute in machine embroidery?
+Jeannette Ugorji Yes we have Jeannette and it works just fine. We will have to do a tutorial on using it. :}

Is there a better way to allow the photo transfer to become more permanent?
I've heard that you can get some kind of acrylic spray that will help it become more permanent (maybe not 100%). Worth looking around.
Does this require a particular type of printer?
It works best in an inkjet printer because the ink bonds to the fabric. With a laser printer the toner doesn't tend to bond as well and this means the colours may rub off.
@@alandacraft Thanks! Lots of great projects here!
Will the ink not wash off?
