For this project, you will need:
Mod Podge Matte Finish: amzn.to/1JAgV0o or Gloss Finish: amzn.to/1LWq4WP
Sponge Paint Brush: amzn.to/3oH9Ufs | Sponge Roller: amzn.to/3MHj2bX
Craft Scissors: amzn.to/1KKCn7f | Canvas
You can use any image you like. For this demonstration I used 'The Seven Deadly Sins' by Chris Price, taken from Harper's Bazaar 'The Big Red Book'.
Directions
1. Take the image to the photocopier and scan it. If it has writings, flip it over.
2. Take the Modge Podge and pour it onto the canvas by covering all of it. Use a brush to make it even.
3. Take the image and place it on to the canvas, make sure to even up the sides and leave no wrinkles.
4. Take the roller and roll the image so that it fits perfectly on to the canvas, make sure that there is no glue onto the paper top.
5. Get rid of any glue stains that have pushed out on the sides of canvas.
6. Leave the canvas with image to dry out for 24 hours.
7. After the 24 hours, get a sponge, soak it in water and make the top layer of paper wet. You will start to see the image below.
8. Turn the canvas vertically and rub the paper side of canvas gently with your fingers, so the paper comes off slowly.
9. Keep on rubbing down the paper. If needed, add more water so that it comes off easier.
10. When you have cleared the image, you are finished. Good job!

Will use this method to transfer paint by number!
FINALLY! A DIY video with the instructor FOCUSING only on the project and it’s task at hand. No pre or post yapping. Clear. Precise. Honest expectations. Well done!

On your recomend I’ve subbed
I’ve loved your comment - I feel exactly the same! Most people spend so much time talking about the presentation before lifting a finger
Yes! I love her focuss
@@christinebeames2311 just found her, and subbed
On behalf of all RUclips viewers... I declare you Crafter of the Year!!!!!!!
Teacher of the yr. Award. Definitely an apple 🍎 for you
What great clear instructions! No useless chatter, no useless, distracting music. Thank you!
Oh I agree, she went straight to the point! Very helpful indeed!
Love your video. No funky music to distract or irritate. Your instructions are clear and your camera angle allows for complete visualization. Thank you! Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I love that you get right to it, no goofy music or credits. I get so impatient sometimes. You’ve done a great job!
You can do this on wood too. I did a transfer of a photographic image of leaves onto an all wooden cigar box . I did it w Prell hand sanitizer. She’s a good demonstrator
WOW!!! 9yrs ago and I am beyond happy I got this as a recommended video!! This video is WONDERFUL!!! Thank you @Astar’s Place!
Oh thank you , a video without a word salad, glass of wine, and cheese that I can learn from without getting bored and clicking to another’s sordid life history. Much appreciated. ❤❤❤❤
😂😂😂😂
That is so true. Or thanking God for some stoopid thing...
This is such a great tutorial! I used this technique with my daughters favorite Disney characters using a dollar store coloring book. Then used acrylic paint pens to "color" it. All my friends are now offering to pay me to make Disney (and other cartoon characters) decorated stuff for Christmas. Like one friend wants me to decorate her sons dressers and other furniture with Marvel characters.
So you painted after your transfer ?
I've watched quite a few of these videos of how to do an image transfer and I must say, for me, this is by far the best I have seen - very clear instructions, moved along quickly and the presentation was excellent. Thank you!!
Thank you Jean.

@@AstarsPlace 🆘️+?? - HELP please dear Astar ~ May I ask you if this method would work with CALENDAR~PAGES.?? please, &
thank you.! *"A~STAR"!!* 👏👏 ♥️🌹🌷
I used to do this with modge podge back in the 60s. I would put my images on wood or plastic and sometimes on glass. Also, I would use old cigar boxes. I still have a few of the pieces I did and they still look great. I also used color pictures with no loss of color.
Hello, isn't it such fun doing this type of transferring. Cheers Astar
I remember using mod podge and straight up just painting any image both sides and face up on a surface and boom. Done.
@luckyboat4 I'm sorry about your son. I hope he is safe and back home with you. God bless.
I did it in the 70s in shop class. 😁
@luckyboat4 prayers your son comes home safely to be with you and that your project comes out beautifully.
She is the cleanest artist I have ever seen 😊. I love how she had clear instructions and demonstrations

Right...love the way she says right.😄
So you think that a person that glues and image on a canvas is a an actual artist...
@@mitutoyo34 not all artist draw or paint. My daddy was a photographer and won artist awards. So yes she is an artist of her medium.
Wow, this tutorial is from 2014 and so happy I found it. I've been looking for a way to transfer a drawing onto canvas, because I didn't want to use paper that would not hold up over time.! Thank you, Astra. You are right to the point with explaining...love your accent. I will look for more of your videos. Love it!
Great video! Camera, lighting is all perfect! We can see everything clearly. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤️
You are very excited about your work. I like that.
Great job.
Thanks.
I'm thankful that after 5yrs this video was available when I needed it. Great tutorial, so easy to follow and complete information.
As an artist with little patience transferring my drawings to canvas seems the way to go! Thank you for this marvelous tutorial on how to do ink jet transfers... Was a great refresher and you took no time at all explaining it it great detail! I absolutely loved your video!
I love this lady she’s just great and the information is all given clearly and quickly...great stuff!
Thank you so much for showing that Mod Podge can be used for this process, an not just the expensive gel mediums!
Very insightful. Love your mannerisms - the energy, enthusiasm, optimism, and tenacity are *wonderful*!!!!
You can fix those spots in black by using a Sharpie, or paint to touch up the scratched off areas. Another thing is to do some painting with color and then seal it. Also, a little bling can be added with crystal jewels here and there. Remember, less is more. Loved your vid, and your filming location looks great too!
Excellent tutorial!! No extraneous talk. Only the instruction easily understood. Many thanks
OMG. This is exactly what I needed to find. Thank you!
Loves this! I have spent 30 - 60 for canvas prints not anymore, Thank You for sharing!!
Quite enjoyed the fact that it’s the first tutorial that I have watched and there is no messing around. Got in and got the job done without the long winded chat. Well done
Out of all the demonstrations videos for this kind of technique this is by FAR THE BEST! I LOVE it and I LOVE your accent! Much love from Scotland with all your “wee” bits xx
Great info! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with us! This is the first time I’ve seen any of your videos, but now I can’t wait to watch some others because I truly appreciate your style!
I really enjoyed this. You packed a lot of information in a quick window of time! Love your studio too!
I was thinking the same thing, and really appreciating that, as I often find myself skipping through a lot of extra stuff I’m not interested in. I also appreciate that she spoke rather quickly and got right to the project!
I could listen to you talk all day... So soothing! And great video to learn from.
I love the way you say 'edges'. So cute.
You sound just like my Aunt from South Africa! wonderful, love your energy!
Hi David, sometimes I use PVA glue which works as well. Hope this helps. PS PVA glue is available from hardware or building suppliers. Astar
Do you mean GVA glue?
opps PVA?
Mog pog is just pva glue and water
Now I'm not sure if you will see this. But thank you so much for this 💕.

You are so good at doing a presentation of a step by step process. Thank you!

Finally, a transfer project that works with an inkjet printer!
Hey
4k
Does it have to be a ink jet copier
Your presentation was excellent. I have watched many instructional videos. You were engaging, your directions were clear and you kept the pace at a good tempo. The best part was you showed mistakes and explaned how to avoid them. KUDOS!
Thank you! I love how your setting and your instructions. Wonderful job! You gave me just the solution I needed for my artwork. Thank you!
Love this, grrrrlfriend! Not a video of babbling on and on and on, ugh. Short, sweet, to the point and FUN My kinda gal, lol.
LOVE this....now I know what I can do with some artwork that my son did. Transfer to a canvas. I am definitely doing this.

@@carolkira - Nothing gets ruined, you don't use the original art. You make a copy of it using a printer then you use the copy for your project.
Brilliant. I love how you show what can go wrong and how to handle it. Love your accent too! 😊
I’m very excited to try this. I was so glad to read in a comment that you do the same on most surfaces. Enjoyed watching. Thank you.
Hello. Yes it does work with colour but the finished result will appear somewhat faded. Hope this helps regards Astar
Loved this so much! Thank you for making it. And I appreciate that you showed the mistakes you made as well, I wouldn't have that to reverse the image. That is incredibly helpful. God Bles!!
Astar's Place
Awesome thanks for doing this!!!
If the color is faded, paint over the image with a satin acrylic polyurethane from home depot. It brings the picture back to life.
aunty Asta can I have that cup of coffee pleeze
This is amazing, thank you so much. You waste no time babbling about stuff and get right to it. Very professional thanks!!
I am so happy this popped into my feed. My head is exploding with tons of ideas! Thank you so much for such clear instructions.
This is the best tutorial for this process. Straight to the point. Thanks!
Very cool. This method can also be used as a fun painting Project where you simply transfer the black and white image and paint over it with oil paint or acrylics!
Thank you! THIS is the answer I was looking for!
Wow! I used to follow you when you were doing floral arrangements. I loved your videos, and used a lot of your work to help me develop my floristry skills. Nice to see you working in another medium. A good excuse to follow you again.
What a wonderful woman. Natural, amusing and gets to the point. Love her.
I love the amazing things you do. I also used to study your sewing videos for hours.
Brilliant! Very nicely explained. Thanks for sharing! 👩🏻🎨🖼🖌🎨👍
Girrrrrl you are the Joan collins of art❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love your expressions and thanks for making it FUN!!!
I'm so happy to find your wonderful tutorial!♥️ I was going to attempt to do a pencil sketch for a friend for Christmas but ran out of time needed to finish. So for now, in lieu of the sketch I'm going to ATTEMPT to do a transfer. The pic is my friend's beloved dog who passed away recently. I know my friend will love it IF I can do it on the FIRST TRY. I don't have a printer to print another pic if mess up. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and very clear instructions! Have a joyous holiday season! ⛄
Wow! Great video! Great personality... I can't wait to do this. Thank you!
Iv just coloured a adult colouring page and transferee to my lil canvas using all this but I used PVA glue and turned out perfect. Thx Astar 🌺
You Go Natasha!!! Makes you feel good don’t it👍🙃
You are GREAT at presenting a clear and concise lesson, Aster! Love the NZ accent! LOL

Very well explained
That's the cleanest artist space I have ever seen. Very neat trick! I am going to use it. Thanks!
Hello Ma'am, I am new to canvas and i found you.. you are awesome.. thank you so much for the help!! love :)
You have one of the most fascinating ways to explain how this is done. I could listen to that accent all day, too 😉.
I love this procedure that you did. I am certainly going to try it. Thank you so much for sharing your talents.
This was awesome. I like how you showed the problems that can arise too.
I loved it 😍. spicially the part of " I'm such impenitent person" 😄 me too 😄 thanks a ton for your vedio and for your advice about the running water in a sink and surly for your lovely way 😍😍😍

Very nice tutorial of a technique I remember from the '70s. Thanks for sharing and bringing back memories.
You are an excellent teacher. You take time in explaining the procedure and you have done a great job of sharing your talent.
Thank you Veronica, you have lifted my spirits. Pleased you got WHY I do why I do what I do in explaining at certain moments. As my mum used to say - 'the devils in the details'. Kind regards Astar
Astar's Place your most welcome Ms. Astar. Keep up the good work. Keep inspiring new artist like me. God bless.
You have THEEEEE CUTEST accent!!! I love it! Thanks for the great video 😊❤️

This is great. Perfect demo... I am TOTALLY inspired now to take my courage in my hands and go for it. Thank you thank you... ❤️😊
wow I love the video , details, and equipment to use. I love the way you put all of this together like a real professional tv show. will try this technique
the artist of the seven deadly sins graphics is a gentleman named Chris Price
Lovely demonstration and what a charming way to present it! Keep up the good work! :-)
Thanks for sharing, your knowledge in an easy to understand manner, much appreciated. JB Lincolnshire UK
Wow! This is cool!I have to try this, thanks for the video!
I adore the "earbubbles" - you have the greatest accent, I enjoyed it "veary much". Plze do bedtimestories/fairytales when you get bored with this? I could listen to you for ages.
I'm sure I'm detecting a South African accent in there.

@@2bless8 Yes, a South African in New Zealand :)
@@3orMoreChars Ahh. I see. Not so sure about that since I have heard other New Zealanders that sound just like her. I'll take your word for it though.
i think i could listen to you all night! lol
I am glad I found this video. I have been working on lots of designs but never thought of this technique to help me in some work I am doing.
It really turned out great, I can't wait to try this. Thank so much!!!
Using the book inside the frame to support the canvas is good, but even so I recommend doing one other thing: Once you've placed the image and burnished it the way shown in the video, flip it over onto a hard surface like the table (you can protect it with a piece of freezer paper etc), so you're looking inside the frame from the back. Now, burnish the underside of the canvas really well from inside the frame with a brayer. Then, flip it back over and again use the brayer around the edges that you can't hit from inside the frame. Takes just a couple of extra minutes, but you'll be surprised how much tighter the bond is between the image and the canvas - and the tighter the bond, the better the transfer.
+Brian Taylor nice recap, I'm doing 28 photos using stretched canvas. Have you tried modge Podge new? Photo transfer medium? I just ordered some
Brian Taylor
I simply have cut out boards to fit my canvas and it like making a simple tortilla
Good advice dude!😊 sounds like your a bit of a perfectionist!! Gonna try that!!
Astar, you have no need to apologise for the way ou are dressed! You look beautiful!
And thank you for your tutorial, very helpfu.l
Love the info style... mature, real. Lovely! Thank you.
I enjoyed learning about transfers. Looks brilliant. I hope to achieve a project. Thank you
Love the idea. Great images you used.
Wondering, will just about any brand matt medium work for this tech?
Once the paper backing is removed, assuming additonal embellies can be added atop the sealed image, right?
My Muse, it has been far too long, i missed our Good Mornings together, the memories you shared and your charisma, oh my giddy aunt, so beautiful, thank you for being beautiful! i miss you!
I could listen to you talk all day! I LOVE your vids! You are wicked talented!!
I haven't done it yet, but I HAVE enjoyed listening to you talk!! Love your accent!
I've just done this on wood just the other day!! Turned out stunning !!

I realize your comment (& the video tutorial) is quite old, so u may not even ✔ this thread; however, i have a question re:wood transfer. Does the image being transferred HAVE to be copied or can u transfer another medium? For instance, markers? Can i freehand something and transfer it onto wood or do i have to photocopy the original?
Thanks so much if u happen to check this.
Susan Di Laudo I am 98% sure it has to be photocopied or printed on ink jet printer....I also think that laser printed image would work, but also almost sure that marker drawing does not transfer (they soak into the paper unlike printer’s ink)
Lovely and well explained. BTW: I believe the artist of your images, "The 7 deadly Sins" was Harper's Bazaar's favorite and longtime artist, ERTE.
Very thorough instructions and a delightful accent to hear from Wisconsin, USA.
First-time watcher, I enjoyed it very much. Good, clear and professional video.
