Gotta love how the double entendre of Saiyan armour as contraception during Krillin and Bulma's exchange calls back to Vegeta's accidental fatherhood. "You said you were wearing protection!" "I was wearing my armour!"
Tien's "SHHHIN...! KI-KOOOO... HOOOOO!!!" is legitimately the single, best DB scream ever. No, I'm not talking about the Abridged series by itself, I mean ever. EVER.
One of my favorite episode if for any reason because of Tien getting the love he deserves. The sheer badass line of "WELL YOU KNOW WHAT?! F*** POWER LEVELS F*** SUPER SAIYANS AND F*** YOU!!!!" still gives me goosebumps.
Most of my favourite lines in the show somehow involve someone wrecking Cell's sh*t, that scene and the Final Flash scene. The voice acting is just insane!
I love how Mark(the editor, at least I think its Mark) leaves in the bits where they're like "god I hope he cuts that" and he's like NAH your tomfoolery is on display for ALL to see
No he didn't, in the original the remote would have just turned android 18 off making her useless to Cell, krillin just didn't want to turn her off and trusted her to try to get away herself instead of moving her
The shut down controller doesn't make her useless to Cell... The point was to destroy 17 & 18 after turning them off and as a result Cell wouldn't be able to absorb them.
@@gunfighter009 I think it's reasonable to assume that turning off a cyborg who is only alive because of those cybernetics is equivocal to death. Even if they "turned her back on" who is to say whether she would come back to life? It's not the same as the stasis pods they were in while they in Gero's lab.
The Shadow of the Colossus music in Tien's scene is absolutely perfect. Not only is the "Counterattack" track epic, but it is thematically appropriate because of overcoming overwhelming odds to not defeat but stall out a monster. Tien is basically an ant to Cell, which is the exact feeling one gets in their first playthrough against the Colossi in SOTC, which makes any victory small or large feel amazing.
I agree with you, it’s the perfect song for this moment tien knows he’s outmatched but he does not care he’s gonna put up a fight and to quote Tien in DBZA “I am not a spectator! I am a warrior!!”
Love that he calls him “Tien” before the tri-beam, and exclusively calls him Tenshinhan after the Ki-Ko-Ho. Edit: He calls him Tien after coming back from King Kai’s, that’s my B.
It also helps that we see Goku meditating and observing Cell for so long. He knows all the capabilities of all the pieces on the board. Which plays into "Goku is a martial arts savant" - but he doesn't understand _people_ and that's where he almost fucks up.
That is a perfect explanation honestly for not only Goku but Chichi as a whole. Because you look at how they are woth Gohan and then Goten. Where I'm sure if I want lean towards bad parents so much as new parents for years upon years.
He also understand death completely differently to everyone else, he has died, his friends have died, they seen the afterlife and came back by the reality altering power of the Dragon Balls... not realising that is not normal. A fight to the death is a time out, planets, galaxies, whole universes are replaceable. He has no concept of risk as long as they have the balls!
Fun fact: "Nettled is a hybridization of the words (Old English) netle / Netele, (Dutch) Netel, and (German) Nessel." It also started being more used after 2015, which I would like to attribute to this episode in particular.
So I'm a sound engineer and the sudden zooming in on the soda can popping open was GOLD. I can't tell you how many times I've edited those down in a podcast.
I always thought Ganxingba was one of the more underrated voice actors in the TFS Rolodex. Jan Valentine? Unforgettable. Recoome? My favorite dub voice of the character. Jeice? Australian. So of course when he is asked to voice what is arguably one of if not the best moment in DBZA, he fucking delivers.
15:33 The only thing I’d change about that is take out “tubular” and put in “hella tight” to not only keep with the correct decade (late 90’s-mid 00’s vs “tubular” that’s stuck in the 80’s) but also “tight” is a double entendre; _it would be completely in character for Cell._ Also, “boobie bomb!” sounds like a Hellsing Abridged line that was left on the cutting room floor 😂
Scott hit it home with what he said about Tien. He puts in so much effort to improve himself, it's inspiring. And he's a good example of the whole "bad guy turn good" thing too that we would get from Piccolo and Vegeta. Even as a kid, I loved how Tien came in and gave it a shot with the Tri-Beam/Kikoho. He knows he probably can't win, but he still tried. Because of this, Tien is in my top 3 favorite characters, behind Future Trunks and Vegeta.
Not only did he know he couldn’t win but he definitely expected to die. Absolute respect because he stepped up to do what needed to be done even at the risk of his own life
Honestly a lot of people’s biggest beef/question is if vegeta or krillin fumbled more. But I feel like the real question is why did only handful of the people there + the people who could actually warp in to help do virtually nothing to at least try and save 18 from vegeta and cell? Like fuck everyone else, cell can’t even sense 18, she could’ve just left or straight up drowned herself in the ocean (or self destructed). The literal answer for this is just that due to editorial demand and toriyama’s writing style, sometimes in order for something he wants to happen. He just turns the characters into walls of stone that can’t move or speak until after a plot point is met. I’m not even just talking about the awesome team up fight potential. Narratively, I feel like people would’ve understood more, if everyone at least TRIED to use everything they had to save 18, even if they still failed. Trunks is a nice guy, and attempting to kill 18 would obviously just create more conflict, but it’s odd how we don’t even see him attempt or consider just trying for moment. They don’t even have to be the correct choices, it’s just weird how we hardly seen any of them make ANY choices. Weirdly enough, vegeta is the main and strongest one there when it came to actually acting in a way that’s consistent to his character.
Its absolutely funny considering Yamcha up until this point was doing the same thing, even going so far as to outperform any of the other humans in trying to train like Vegeta. It's a small factor people forget because Yamcha himself is a forgettable background character but he did stay in 150x Gravity a lot longer than he had any right to without dying. On that technicality alone he is the strongest human, but brawn =/= brains. Tien had both, in spades.
Don’t forget, a hole in the chest is what killed King Piccolo. But somehow Piccolo is fine, and Cell will survive losing much more later on. So I’m guessing namekian regen abilities are tied to power level or something.
@@Death2all546generally they appear to take a certain amount of energy to regen a body part, so in a literal sense, the stronger they are, the smaller a percentage of their power they need to put in to regen an arm. Also on some level it feels like King Piccolo had slowly made himself less and less Namekian over time through the whole demon bit the guys mentioned, while Piccolo, between being a natural namekian egg that happened to possess a part of his father, and the amount of fusions he does later on, he's over twice the namekian King Piccolo was, both genetically and numerically. As for Cell he's part Frieza so he's functionally immortal if even a cell (pun very much intended) of his body survives, and has infinite stamina Android bits fused into his being by the time he hits Perfect, meaning he can both survive any damage to his physical body, and has the extra energy to be able to regenerate any damage done.
Man that would be so awesome. Lord knows we all are wishing for a fourth season, but getting the gang all in the same room for a commentary episode would be so sick. Maybe a hybrid in-person/video call could work
Tien is the biggest, bravest badass in all of Z. He will fight so hard he literally just drops dead. "F*ck power levels, f*ck super Saiyans and f*ck YOU" is a great Tien line because it's a perfect summary of Tien himself.
Unless that amount of hair is Blonde, spiky and electrified, thers no reason to have that much hair. But I respect the commitment to the look, and thats really all that matters
Finally, THIS EPISODE is my favourite in the DBZA series, what you guys did with Tien here is just perfect, from keeping it to the KiKoHo, to giving him badass lines and making him cells most hated, I really like the character and his moment in this episode is so powerful, thank you for that
Imagine Piccolo said: "Nothing, just riding that high horse all day long." And after 17 asked "What?", Piccolo explains why he was born in long details.
@MrJeremyCuddles sorta, Lani’s by far the worst about it though. Kaiser and especially Taka are good about letting the others finish. Not sure if this was sarcastic based on how Taka keeps trying to continue what he’s saying when Lani interrupts (again) at 7:30, but who knows Either way, I was in stitches
My interpretation is that Kaiser and Lani have that sort of podcasting repartee where they're used to talking over one another as needed. Taka is used to streaming as a solo performer (and currently has no desire to be the diva/center of everything), so it's a little harder for him to push his way into the bit when there's not a natural break.

Never have I ever clicked on a video so fast in all my life. Let me be abundantly clear: This whole show is awesome. But this is the episode I have been waiting for.
This is the one I've been waiting for. Until 60, this was probably my favorite episode of DBZA. It's the one I showed my friends to get them into the show! I still remember how we all laughed so hard that we couldn't breathe. I LOVE this episode.
Semi Perfect Cell: Now it’s MY time to shine! Tien: No! It’s mine! SPC: ….respect. Seriously I remember first time hearing Gan going all out for this scene and got reminded how talented y’all are as actors. Gan can just steal a scene-AN EPISODE, when he is on point and he does so again here.
Choosing 'Counterattack' from Shadow of the Colossus was truly the best music choice in the whole series. Who ever came up with that idea - you have my eternal respect.
I think the moment where Tien shouts “KI! KO! HOOOOO!” And punctuates each syllable with a blast (after “STOP IT! STOP IT! ANGRYYYY!”) is one of my favorite moments in the entirety of DBZA
True Story: Back when you guys first released this episode, I was sitting in front of my laptop with a bowl of spicy ramen for lunch. The bit at the very beginning when Semi-Perfect Cell is testing out his new lips; it was so damn funny I nearly did a spit-take. I couldn't stop imagining it as Abridged Alucard doing the exact same thing. Made it extra funny to me.🤣 I learned that day not to eat spicy ramen while watching one of your new episodes cuz trying to hold back from spitting a mouthful of that is quite painful. Also, Taka, your hair is friggin' AMAZING. 🌟Just glorious.🌟
I will never forget the first time I saw this episode was with a friend and we were sitting in class, and when Tien came out of nowhere and had his show stealing moment, we flipped out and had a hard time keeping our composure and had people looking at us like we were crazy but idc, we got hyped and quoted that moment so many times during school that year 😂😂
Tien's sacrifice is probably my favourite moment from this series. Such incredible emotion and such an amazing job voice acting. And the shadow of the colossus music really makes it just perfect
I appreciate that, if I recall correctly, this episode was originally named Simple Geometry as a reference to the Triangles into Squares joke later (and the obvious overwatch joke if I have my timing right, I think Overwatch was in Beta at the time). I appreciate that it actually makes sense geometrically even more. When you spin a triangle around its center point, the shape its corners draw is a square. And you can tell the Tri-beam is spinning because in the shot of it closing on Cell, his three shadows are spinning around him, so it WOULD carve a Square hole into the landscape since it's spinning the entire way down.
K so the editor of these is super underappreciated. Focusing in on Kaiser opening the can (that was mostly off camera but VERY audible) Editing Lani out (and making his voice echo) after the pop he made.
In all honesty, after some point, I'm sure EVERYONE hears what Goku heard after Vegeta and Trunks got out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and Vegeta goes on his Saiyan rant.
The shadow of the colossus music fits the scene so well. Even on a meta level tien is basically filling the role of Wander striking out against a foe he should never stand a chance against.
There are very few lines that define the entire episode they’re in. There are even fewer that define the character saying them. But there is only one, that is so iconic, it even defines the person it’s being said to. God DAMN, this was a good scene.
12:44 beautiful bit, would have fleshed the Kami/Piccolo relationship a bit more, glad it exists here and good editing syncing up with the anime footage.
20:08 Ok I now think DBZA Goku secretly reads a thesaurus to avoid swearing after the concept of Kid Goku swearing like a sailor. Just imagine him actually reading one but doesn’t want chichi to know… like him paying taxes
So, I don’t comment often, but I really have to here. Tien’s scene, from the writing to the voice acting to the editing, EVERYTHING is what I aspire towards as a writer. The lead up of “F-- power levels! F-- Super Saiyans! And f--! YOU!” Is by far my favorite scene in media. It gives me like hype chills every time I hear it. I’m currently trying to get published and I can only hope I can ever reach the point where I can create such and AMAZING sequence.
5:22 Every character Goku was able to defeat was bald. Raditz and Vegeta, both of whom had hair, were the ones he really needed help with. We can safely deduce that Goku’s weakness is hair.
tien has ALWAYS been my favorite character. i love all his scenes from every series, i main him in fighterz even when he isn't meta, he is the BEST. this episode made me so damn happy you have no idea.
23:30 The biggest example of this for me was why it took until Super for Goku to combine the Kaio-ken with a transformation. People say "It would burn too much energy too fast if he did it in one of the SSJ forms" to which I've always said "Isn't that the point of the Kaio-ken in the first place?" Sacrifice a shit-ton of energy to (hopefully) end the fight fast.
2 things about this episode; the first being addressing that 16 being sad over the loss of 17 is a bit of tear jerker. Being that he is indeed an android and isn't programmed to have feelings but learns to care about 17 n 18. Second, I always believed that this version of Chiaotzu not giving a shit anymore, is due to the fact that he's still angry about not getting his sundae so he just stopped caring because he's waiting to die a 3rd time and getting his ice cream.
The fact Cell holds a grudge against Tien for the rest of the series after this is amazing

Up there with commentetiquette. God tier. Must watch.
Tien's "SHHHIN...! KI-KOOOO... HOOOOO!!!" is legitimately the single, best DB scream ever. No, I'm not talking about the Abridged series by itself, I mean ever. EVER.
Of all of the opinions, this is most certainly one of them
Oh 💯
Yeah man, Gon (spelling?) absolutely sends it. Give me shivers every time, especially with the soundtrack behind it.
Goosebumps even after having watched it a billion times
Gon once again swinging for the rafters! And he don't miss!
I know TFS don't like being referred to as a dub, but Tien's Kikoho is what made everyone consider it that way.
The likes were at 69, but out of pure respect for Tien's moment you're referring to, I ruined it
For me the turning point was actually a number of episodes before, during the scene on the lookout with Kami as he prepares to give up his body.
@@LowkeylieKAMI, I NEED YOU TO TELL ME I CAN LEAVE THE LOOKOUT IF I WANT TO.
It was Kikoho and Piccolo and Kami's conversation before fusing which made me consider it a dub

One of my favorite episode if for any reason because of Tien getting the love he deserves. The sheer badass line of "WELL YOU KNOW WHAT?! F*** POWER LEVELS F*** SUPER SAIYANS AND F*** YOU!!!!" still gives me goosebumps.
Gan has so many of the most underrated line reads in the show. I hope he revives ATLA:A someday
@@spencerweiss6337 100% agree. Gan killed it in DBZA.
And Gan's delivery is just perfection. He deserves all the praise the guys give him in this video.
Most of my favourite lines in the show somehow involve someone wrecking Cell's sh*t, that scene and the Final Flash scene.
The voice acting is just insane!
The reverd on SHIIIIN KI KO HO mixed with the zoom out shot was wild. That's what really got me
The running gag of the guys getting mad at Taka for ruining the outro every time is just so much fun
I love how Mark(the editor, at least I think its Mark) leaves in the bits where they're like "god I hope he cuts that" and he's like NAH your tomfoolery is on display for ALL to see
Toriyama literally handed Krillin the trolley problem. So, yeah, that remote must've been the heaviest couple ounces Krillin ever held.
@@gunfighter009don’t litigate the logic of dragon ball.
Absolutely. That soundtrack is one of my favourites of all time, mainly because it does exactly that - an ant against unsurmountable odds.
Kow Otani also did the soundtrack for a Gozilla movie so yup - that’s the feeling they want to convey.
He has so far only call him Tienshinhan in HFIL
That might be a callback to how Gero calls Goku, Son Goku. Like creator, like creation.
I think the editing added so much to this director's commentary. Having Lani disappear was hilarious.
trippy lol
Popping Lani out and still having his reverbed/distanced voice, A+ absolutely wonderful 😂❤
Fun fact:
"Nettled is a hybridization of the words (Old English) netle / Netele, (Dutch) Netel, and (German) Nessel."
It also started being more used after 2015, which I would like to attribute to this episode in particular.
Jeice is space Australian
His Chilled voice is the funniest thing ever, 100% agree
My lawyer told me talking about how I feel about Gan's voice in public is "unadvisable"
Hold up.
Taka's hair. Can we talk about Taka's flowing mane?!
My God, it's majestic.
He's also jacked. Like not bodybuilding level but he works out nicely.
15:33 The only thing I’d change about that is take out “tubular” and put in “hella tight” to not only keep with the correct decade (late 90’s-mid 00’s vs “tubular” that’s stuck in the 80’s) but also “tight” is a double entendre; _it would be completely in character for Cell._
Also, “boobie bomb!” sounds like a Hellsing Abridged line that was left on the cutting room floor 😂
Absolute respect because he stepped up to do what needed to be done even at the risk of his own life
@@MrZer093even Abridged Popo would respect him. He hates incompetence but this showing isn’t incompetence of any kind and he gave it his absolute all.
super did him dirty bad
Don't forget in your canon Namekians can regrow their arm rapidly 24 times in a row, that should be able to fill plenty of holes xD

Ya'll did not need to put in that much effort for this gag. But you did and now it's my favorite part of the whole video.
Imagine Piccolo said: "Nothing, just riding that high horse all day long."
And after 17 asked "What?", Piccolo explains why he was born in long details.
17: Well, shit. I don't know how to respond to that except for respect.
16:24 This line set my mind straight on power-levels forever.
4:56 Was that Taka shushing Lani after he interrupted Kaiser 😂
Omfg he totally did
Sounds more like restrained laughter to me
@MrJeremyCuddles sorta, Lani’s by far the worst about it though. Kaiser and especially Taka are good about letting the others finish. Not sure if this was sarcastic based on how Taka keeps trying to continue what he’s saying when Lani interrupts (again) at 7:30, but who knows
Either way, I was in stitches
My interpretation is that Kaiser and Lani have that sort of podcasting repartee where they're used to talking over one another as needed. Taka is used to streaming as a solo performer (and currently has no desire to be the diva/center of everything), so it's a little harder for him to push his way into the bit when there's not a natural break.
@@The_One_In_Blackyou can tell there is no drama over it though, they keep things going and don’t make a big deal, they’ve worked together for more than 10 years and are used to each other’s way of doing things.

Love to see Taka so much more relaxed. Good to see the real guy behind all the voices we love. ❤
Gan's "SHIN, KIKOHO" with the reverb and all sounds sooooo great
Semi Perfect Cell: Now it’s MY time to shine!
Tien: No! It’s mine!
SPC: ….respect.
Seriously I remember first time hearing Gan going all out for this scene and got reminded how talented y’all are as actors. Gan can just steal a scene-AN EPISODE, when he is on point and he does so again here.
That Surfshark ad was fantastic! Also, Taka's hair is freaking glorious.
Choosing 'Counterattack' from Shadow of the Colossus was truly the best music choice in the whole series. Who ever came up with that idea - you have my eternal respect.
Got a love, the friendship that Nick and Taka show off at the very end.
I think the moment where Tien shouts “KI! KO! HOOOOO!” And punctuates each syllable with a blast (after “STOP IT! STOP IT! ANGRYYYY!”) is one of my favorite moments in the entirety of DBZA
True Story:
Back when you guys first released this episode, I was sitting in front of my laptop with a bowl of spicy ramen for lunch. The bit at the very beginning when Semi-Perfect Cell is testing out his new lips; it was so damn funny I nearly did a spit-take. I couldn't stop imagining it as Abridged Alucard doing the exact same thing. Made it extra funny to me.🤣
I learned that day not to eat spicy ramen while watching one of your new episodes cuz trying to hold back from spitting a mouthful of that is quite painful.
Also, Taka, your hair is friggin' AMAZING. 🌟Just glorious.🌟
I will never forget the first time I saw this episode was with a friend and we were sitting in class, and when Tien came out of nowhere and had his show stealing moment, we flipped out and had a hard time keeping our composure and had people looking at us like we were crazy but idc, we got hyped and quoted that moment so many times during school that year 😂😂
I have to say the surfshark commercial had Lani in a Rick Grimes bites a guy neck out vibe. Real nice.
😄😬😄😬
Focusing in on Kaiser opening the can (that was mostly off camera but VERY audible)
Editing Lani out (and making his voice echo) after the pop he made.
In all honesty, after some point, I'm sure EVERYONE hears what Goku heard after Vegeta and Trunks got out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and Vegeta goes on his Saiyan rant.
Freeza sure did.
You don’t miss anything if you do hear it. Pride and prince and super sayian stuff lol
Yeah, they would have all learned to just tune him out because it’s just copy-paste.
The shadow of the colossus music fits the scene so well. Even on a meta level tien is basically filling the role of Wander striking out against a foe he should never stand a chance against.
That reading of the f*** off from lani is so perfect and hysterical I cannot stop replaying it
There are very few lines that define the entire episode they’re in. There are even fewer that define the character saying them. But there is only one, that is so iconic, it even defines the person it’s being said to. God DAMN, this was a good scene.
ngl. I'm feeling down and life feels meaningless. I just wanna thank you guys for all the years of comedy

Every character Goku was able to defeat was bald.
Raditz and Vegeta, both of whom had hair, were the ones he really needed help with. We can safely deduce that Goku’s weakness is hair.

The biggest example of this for me was why it took until Super for Goku to combine the Kaio-ken with a transformation.
