These paint DIY videos are fantastic. As others have mentioned 99% don't have spray booths etc. but with some guidance and practice one can get good results. I bought an old fender from a wrecking yard and I'm using it to practice on. One can sand, put a dent in it, repair it, prime and paint etc. on it. Then go for it on your project car.
Great way to learn Danno, don't forget your safety equipment. Paint respirator, disposable gloves, and eye protection.
I can't thank you enough Brian, for your videos. I've watched probably 20 by now; you are a GREAT teacher. That's a skill that is deeply under-appreciated these days. I watched your first video to solve a problem of mine - now, I'm watching your vids for edu-tainment. Not only are you a great communicator & teacher, you're interesting also. This channel deserves a great deal more subs and likes. With content like this, I can see in time Paint Society becoming THE authority for painting on RUclips. Especially with DIY-at-home content like this.
Love your videos. About to repaint my 82 Fiat Spider. Giving me the confidence to do it myself. Re-did the rusty trunk after I replaced gas tank - turned out great. Now getting brave to the whole exterior.
Lol funny you say that. About to spray a 78 mg midget here.
Report back and let us know how it went. Im currently getting things together and about to do the same on my car, looking forward to it.
Thank you so much Brain... I feel so blessed to have a teacher like you on RUclips and I am learning a lot of stuff related to painting and this is going to help me a lot since I have already started to paint on my own and I've successfully painted a Royal Enfield Motorcycle which came out like the best job in my city here... I'm sort of trying to save some money at the moment so I can setup my own garage or paint booth through which I can make a good life and look after my wife and son. Thank you very much for your videos and hopefully I am planning to make some of the videos of my work too.. Learning from you as much as possible.. Really thank you... You're a very good teacher.
I love your at-home videos. It is much more practical for us DIY weekend warriors.
Keep up the good work - I’ll keep watching.
I didn’t know a thing about paint six month’s ago and now everyone I know asks me to help them with body work, and I learned most of why I know from your videos.
You are a hero to guys like me.
That’s awesome to hear !!!
Just like to say thanks. Watching your videos has given me the confidence to have a go and I’m blown away by the finish I’ve managed to achieve in my garage by following your advice.
Thank you so much I'm 13 and I'm just getting started my dad gave me an old door to work on so I'm using this video for helpful tips ❤❤❤🎉
Awesome stuff Brian. I am an Aussie and tinker with a bit of painting. So far I have found your channel to be the most informative and idiot proof I have come across. Keep up the good work man!
I have a suburban that needs body work done and a full paint job because the paint is falling off, so this is very helpful and inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you, sir. I'm in the process of doing a wrap on an E36 M3 that needs significant rust correction on the roof. Your videos make a process the process far more approachable.
I gotta say watching your videos have shown me a lot of what not to do and what should be done . From what I see I am a fan of the step of sealing. I have to paint a hood for my wife’s van and I am using your vids as a guide. Keep the videos coming. I appreciate the info in them. Thank you so much. 🙏
Dude! Your tips are solid. I just pulled and patched dents in my 74 Camaro and painted with a Fugi. Turned out better than the rest of the car Lol.
"Preparation is key to any paint job."
Even as general contractor, who only sprays walls/trim/ceilings, i tell everyone of my emoloyees this every paint job.
It's great learning from you and I'm no where near paint yet as I'm welding in new panels. But by the time I'm done I would have good knowledge on what I need to do. ❤ from the UK.
Cheers mate let’s put a shrimp on the bar-b
Hey man your video is really helped me out. I appreciate this channel
I’m currently going to school for auto collision repair and finally started doing
work on my own without my teacher.
It did start out a little stressful.
but a few lil tips that I pick up from your videos really came in handy
My only issue I think I should work on are
cutting my prep time down and eliminating trash or dust getting in my diy booth.
Thank you so much for making this video. You’re a natural teacher.
This is a perfectly paced video with clear instructions/explanation that is balanced well with the footage. Thank you!
I appreciate the work you put out brian. Being the only guy in the shop that paints (sort of) and does bodywork can be very stressful. Your videos show me things I wouldn't have learned otherwise.

Thankyou for teaching me how to do body and paint work. I learned alot from your videos. I got done painting my truck recently and it came out great! 😁.
I love your videos, I have learned a lot and will be ready for my first project soon, making sure I get all details on what I should do and honestly your videos have been building my confidence.. thank you
Always great info. Getting ready to paint our Ram 2500 using a lot of your info. Thanks for this video. Look forward to your next.
Love the content. You motivated every time I watch your channel. Thanks for what do. Showing DIY people they can do it.
Thank you !
My HOA would be sending me letters for painting in front of my house. 😂
Nice job Brian. You make it seem easy. I taken on some projects doing my own cars. I've learned so much from your videos. Thanks love watching your videos.
Your video is exactly what I wanted. A straightforward diy video on how to do it from home. Thanks buddy
Great video man im new to your channel and the reason why i was looking into it was because im looking into painting my own car so i can learn and also to save some money, i own a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse Rs and im 19 but this video really got me an idea of how its done and it also inspired me to give it a try
No wonder Brian is so happy! I see palm trees in the window reflections. Hard to not be happy with sun and palm trees. Try living in the Buffalo NY area. Hell on auto body and paint too.
Nice work. I can’t wait to see you refinish it with the turbine. I’ve been needing more proof it’s worth going out and getting one.
We will be bringing it to the booth for refinishing
I want to thank you for taking the time out of your day to help us
Thanks Brian! I always learn something from the master!👍😊
Ive sprayed a bit in the past, not much, but most results ive have not been happy with. I am currently getting things together to respray my car, i was not that confident after previous attempts at panels ive done, like i said, have been shit, faded colour, cracking clear coat etc. But going through this channel and watching the vids, i can pretty much see where ive gone wrong in the past with everything. Which is good, it means i know where i went wrong, so i wont be doing that again.
A big thanks to this channel, you have installed some confidence in me, hopefully i can report back in a few months time and say, and even bigger thanks.
Any update ?
Exactly what I was looking for. Wanna do my 91 GMC 1500 with sun damaged paint.
This is my favorite project, I have one of these trucks. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great video helps us novices who work on there own cars.Im in Syd love these videos help so much cheers.
If youd wanna go extra, use a filter when pouring that 4:1! Love these videos!
I like the colour of that filler when you applied it
ty for the vids, props to the camera man in slippahs, can't wait to get started on my proj. paint society is my go to for tutorials and how to's mahalo nui!
Good tip on mixing the filler, another suggestion is to wrap a pice of cardboard with the paper you use to mask off with, wax side up.
i'm a new subscriber from philippines . all video's very informative need to all beginners
Im here to fix my rusting, peeling 1995 white Burb! Thanks
Thank you for the time to show and explain the correct process..one question..if some previous repairs and work like the engine bay have been done in a one k acrylic primer, would it be necessary to sand it all down and remove it?as i'm now using 2k primer for the rest of my restoration.or would 2k primer/sealer be okay and compatible to spay over it?..thank you
I hope you show the paint process on this SUV or suburban. This was a great how to video, Thanks man!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤️
That was awesome real DIY style at the crib ! This video should get a lot of views cause of the real world situation wind heat etc nice video . That turbine is a nice solution for a lot of situations .
Looks great. You guys are getting there. Thx I really appreciate your channel.
That color is gonna be fun to blend
If you use card board with print on a box that has a shiney finish. Most modern packaging. The shiny side is great for filler mixing. Doesn't absorb the chemicals in the filler, like in raw card board.
The raw chemicals seeping into raw cardboard. Just deminishes the compound of the filler. Great video
Guide coat "IS the TIME SAVER" you can SEE what needs to be sanded.
The people that hate body prep " N E V E R used guide coat, all the time.
Another excellent video again mate.
Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴
20:26 I only sprayed primer surfacer on the repair areas for now. The rest of my car still has some flaking clear coat but I plan to tackle the flaking paint after I fix the dents.
My question is: Will I have to sand the primer surfacer down to the filler on the repair areas before I spray the rest of the car with primer surfacer?
Appreciate the help from any professional as I know paint society doesn't always answer our questions because he's very busy.
That looks great. 👍 I really need to paint my old 2002 Dakota . I haven't painted in years and then I just primed my buddy shot the color as I was still learning. Matt.
Nice job Brian ! I remember you from the days of the rn forum. Glad to see you still doing body and paint!
That was a long time ago!
Great refresher. Thanks. It's been a couple years since I painted and I have 5 rebuilds all done and just waiting on paint.
Taking the time to prep well can compensate for imperfect paint skills.
Best channel hands down keep making vids
Im at a similar place with my obs truck. Thanks for the inspiration!👍
I just finished the body and paint on my 92 Silverado .I painted it back to the original blue and silver two tone it looks amazing. Good luck with your project 👍
@@classicwefi thanks bro! Glad to gear urs turned out great! 👍
@@classicwefidid you do it using the tutorials on his channel?
@ypfv8684 yes Brian's tips on paint and body were quite helpful since I only do bodywork as a hobby on my own vehicles
never used a turbine sprayer, it would be great for at home in the garage painting I always have issue with the amount of overspray do to not having a good airflow in and out of garage
Made this look so easy.
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you. I did learn something, and I subscribed.
Brian, you are the Bob Ross of body filler 10:00 : ) Great video!
I work from home I don’t have time to finish a paint job in a day my question is can I primer one day paint another day and clear on another day would love some feedback I really enjoy your videos
Great content!
Another great video 📸
Nice work brother. I like the tape trick for filler.
Thanks for watching !
Learn a lot from all your videos, I’m getting ready to prep and paint my 69C 10 short bed truck I just need help sequencing the paint job. I’m painting behind the cab, doors, door jams etc. just don’t know where to start or how to avoid running into issues. Plan on using House of Kolor system a green paint I hear it’s best to walk the whole truck but just don’t know how to avoid dry spray in the jams or what’s the best way to go about it
Great video I wish you did more videos with the hvlp turbines
Brian excellent video luckily I don't have to go so extreme on my Kia. No body damage on my doors except a little quarter size parking lot ding. Really enjoy your videos and appreciate all your help on Instagram regarding my car. Hopefully I'll be posting final results to show you soon.🤣🇺🇸
Great detail!! thanks so much for all you do!
PREP: (my notes for when I prep my car)
1. Smooth out bad clear coat using stick sanding blocks with p180 grit sticky sandpaper
2. Body filler low places for me on upper door trim, etc. knock down ridges and surface with 80 grit until smooth, go back and add any more body filler if needed, sand again.
3. Next, use 180 grit to cut through the clear and sand down the entire car. Making sure to sand the car to an even dullness, going back over shinier spots
3. After cutting with the 180 grit and a quick rinse, it is ready to be gone back over with 320 grit, sanding the car to an even smoothness.
4. The car is now ready to be cleaned off for the primer. Use an auto move paint prep cleaner or glass clean, soap etc to completely wipe off any dust or particles on the car. This ensures that the primer is laid down directly on top of the smooth surface without any dust and sand in between.
5. Begin masking off the car, in between the crevices of the door jams, window sills, wheel wells, lights, and drape the painters plastic over the car and cut the plastic accordingly to fit the windows and wheels
6. Once the car is completely masked off, go panel by panel spraying 2 medium coats of primer with a 75% overlap. Make sure to spray at a consistent and even pace and 15 minutes in between coats.
8. Once the primer has sat for at least 24 hours, you are ready to sand the primed panels with 600 grit
Best tutorial on you tube
Ooooaaa I like that
Turbine
excelent explanations. Thank you. How to prep the primer by hand?Thank you again.

Loveeeeee ya channel. Learned so much. Some day can u do a short video on various needle sizes and settings ? Also why u use them, or smaller or larger
Sure
Fantastic video
The best channel !
I’m glad I found this! I want to paint a new panel I bought for my Miata and respray all the front panels on my Miata - they are
Old and tired and have been repainted poorly (all the clear coat has come off). I’ll watch the older videos to see where to start, but question - once you put the final primer on, how long can you leave it before putting paint down? We talking hours? Days? Weeks?
Idk if he’ll answer, but a body guy once told me about a year max and that is if it is protected from the elements (so, covered or preferably garaged).
so much helpful information 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love the video my guy! Thank you! Side note that music is SO corny lol @15:05 😅 😇
Great video
Do you have any videos showing how to repair and restore original paint in decent condition on, say, a 70 or 80 year old vehicle? That’s what I’m trying to do.
stuff using hand the trade use round sanding machein a lot easy.
I have a car that they painted but the color didn’t match. I will be repainting it. Do you know how I need to prep for that ? Do I need to re sand, re primer and paint? Thanks.
Brian thanks
For all the great videos! Now how do I not get a hard line on my jams or overspray in the jams
Awesome 👌
Thnks great video great work
Grande maestro Brian
Thank You so much 👍💯🇺🇸
We need that book, Brian lol.
can you show how to do painless dent removal. I have hail damage on me hood, and would like to learn how to do this. thanks again, and I think you have a great channel.
I have watched some of your videos on paint guns and setting them up and some of the pros and cons of different guns. Just wondering what paint brands you would recommend as well. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and experience you have!
Is there a video on prepping inside door hinges without removing doors?
good idea
Hello Brian,
i am really glad about your video's content and always learning something new. Have you already made or will you make any video regarding how to use propely washprimer on bare metal , where surface defect previously fixed by putty and or 2K filler? I always read at washprimer guideline, that could not be used under any putty or filler, but i am confused. What about if i want to use washprimer and 2K filler, could they be used together?
Thank you for your work!
I work in 3rd world country garage where we have no electricity to power tools or anything and everything is expensive the go to process always the same. Clear the rust by sanding them down with 80 grit then sand the dints or the damage with 150 the polyester putty first coat it then sand it to see if it’s level up the primer spray them and sand it with 400 grit finish of the panel or the area with 1200 and 2000 grit and paint it (all wet sanding cause we can’t afford to by gloves or masks) 🤙
Great video as usual,i struggle to find the self etching primer in my country, i don't know what it's called here, and when i try to explain to the sellers what it's used for they think im talking about the 1k epoxy primer.
Your work is great, and I like the content! I want to paint my motorcycle satin black do you have any tips for how to do this job.. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks 👍👍👍
Nice job! But why didn't you just remove the door handles?
Hey Brian, when will we get your Top 5 spray guns for each of your three tiers? I am about to pull the trigger on buying a higher tier gun, just trying to get as much info possible before before forking over $300-$500...
Brian I was refinishing my doors yesterday and I would like to clarify something. Sun was beating on passenger side door and wrinkled up. Driver side door looked good . This was epoxy sealer over bare metal. Prolly means that I should have used slower reducer for passenger side door since metal was hot from sun beating on it.? Passenger side door metal temp was 86 and driver side was 62. Taken with temp gun. It was 55 degrees outside. Surface was clean. I’m just trying to figure out what happened here. Lol
It’d be awesome if you could do an episode on rock chips on the hood
