    Good to see you back James! Two thoughts:
    1. Even if you overpay for a CPO you are establishing a purchase history at that AD. Your chances to get on a waitlist and receive a call 📞 improve immensely.
    2. If you tell your AD you will sell them your used Rolex contingent on getting a new “better “ one at msrp-in essence jumping ahead of the waitlist. Best regards 😎

    Great to see you back, James! You are spot on. The market softening was only short lived. Right now I'm watching my local bricks and mortar grey dealers to see how fast their Cermits/Hulks, Pepsis and Pandas now sell. Many in the watch community have been saying this for a while now. If people aren't prepared to pay the Rolex premium, it's also time to start looking at alternative watches/brands.

    Good to see you back James . Think I’ll stick to omega and maybe Tudor. Can’t be doing with Rolex anymore. Crazy thing is it probably costs Rolex less than 20% of retail cost to produce a Daytona and then they sell a preowned one for four times retail. Great business model

    I think another important factor is financing. Prices are high but if you can finance for 400/month zero apr do you really care? Ultimate this secured the top end buyers of Rolex and keeps good customers coming. It’s an important distinction as well that these certified preowned are actually brand new mint watches after they are overhauled. They look just as good as new. People will pay for that.

    Great video! Good point about CPO not being for the watch enthusiast. I think when it comes to luxury timepieces, I want to grow with my watches so it is more important for me to own them brand new rather than taking over a refurb.

    There is no crash, Crash=Stainless steel Subs, GMT’s & Daytons selling preowned at retail or below, not going to happen.
    You view is very considered having had time to digest all the other RUclipsrs positions on CPO!
    Hearing your thoughts on hot topics in a more timely manner will be appreciated.

    Can’t see customers not doing their homework and checking pre owned prices.
    Example. Customer told by AD steel Daytona not available brand new but they have a pre owned at x4 RRP with a 2 year guarantee. Customer now being asked to spend £40k instead of £10k - I cannot believe customer is going to just not check whether that extra £30k is good value or not. And the danger is once the customers see the ADs are taking the piss it may cost them future purchases

    New to the channel. Calm, considered comment is always refreshing. Subscribed.
    My thoughts are along the same lines - a year or so (more) of static / bumpy price movement whilst the scheme is fully rolled out (noting the websites mentioned are priced in dollars and it will take time to build up influence in the US) then back to the normalcy of the decade leading up to the pandemic.
    If I’m dropping near £50K on a watch (did in October) it’d be reassuring to know it’ll be worth at least half that in a years’ time should the money be needed. Whilst none of my watches were bought as investments a consideration has been to be able get the money back (ignoring inflationary effect) in about 5 years. Not to get rich - more cos I’m cautious/tight.

    Just a different spin on things.
    If you go into an AD and they have a Daytona panda pre owned at say £40,000 in the window for sale.
    You enquire about getting on a wait list for that watch but they tell you that you have to buy some jewellery and some other cheaper watches you don’t want to get on the list 🤔
    Because it is advertised close to 4x more than it’s retail it will hook some people in.

    My question will be how will Rolex SA (the manufacturer) ensure that the watches are truly one owner watches. I’m not sure there won’t be cheating by the large ADs that have stores in multiple countries (i.e. accept a trade of an originally British Rolex in the USA and send it to a UK store to report it traded in in England). The big dealers will be able to take that path.

    The business model as described still doesn’t make any sense to me. Everyone seems to be assuming the grey market will be used by the Rolex ADs as their reference point for pricing rather than their own RRP. To some extent, I can see how that might work with discontinued or vintage models.
    If what most YT’ers are saying is true, if they were to have a new Sub come in, they’d be better to put it in the pre-owned cabinet and sell it at a premium. Are they going to pay over RRP to buy my watch back? That seems unlikely. Will I accept less than RRP? That seems unlikely too without reasonable incentive to do so.

    • @thevaughn871
      @thevaughn871 Год назад

      CPO program is only for watches that are at least 3 years old, so ADs can't allocate new models as CPO. They aren't going to buy watches, they will simply trade them in at a lower price than grey market in a promise for a future purchase. The model makes perfect sense, but I doubt you'll be seeing hot pieces on display like Daytona -unless it is for a serious premium.

    • @craigwthomson
      @craigwthomson Год назад

      @@thevaughn871 I wasn’t seriously suggesting that they’d sell new watches as pre-owned, but what you’re saying is that theoretically, they could have two identical watches in store, one new and one pre-owned and they’d be selling the pre-owned watch at ‘market value’, some way above the retail price of the brand new one.

    Why would I pay more for a pre owned watch, than a new one, Rolex are overpriced and nothing special. I’m now done with Rolex, why should I sell my watch to a Rolex Ad and get a low price, when I can sell it in the grey market and get more.

      tbh it just seems like they are killing off the customer base, and brand perception. Rolex to a lot of people is just a joke now.
