    The only people getting 'butt-hurt' over this release are actual Speedie owners, and retailers that can't sell it. Logistically, the rollout seems a disaster -- take Melbourne for instance -- but chaos aside, I believe this product has its place. It's NOT for everyone's taste, but it's meant to be a bit of fun inside an iconic style, it's NOT meant to make Swatch owners your horological equals. We ALL understand the difference, and that this is a cheaper counterpart in all facets. Omega knew this, which is why it's only going through Swatch channels. It's also important to note, that this is the first collab between watch makers, and is worth appreciating by itself. The original steel case is still the icon, still the best, and there should be no reason why purist owners of those should feel any less proud. In fact, I can't wait to showcase my own Speedie through these fun color schemes -- with true understanding of their place in the food chain. If they aren't for you, then just don't buy one. Take a breath mate.

    I have to take issue with you here. Swatch has made it hyped? No, the watch vloggers and "influencers" have made it hyped in just a few days. Swatch says it is not limited and will eventually be available online. Therefore, the people in line for days are either idiots or flippers hoping to sell to idiots.

    Silly to by this from flippers for silly money. But I feel this may be a way to get young people when they have real jobs with $ may want the real thing. Time will tell if Omega (Swatch Group) are genius or totally ruined a brand. In our social media society I believe most people will aspire for the real thing. I have a Professional Speedmaster with 3861 movement and plan to buy a MoonSwatch when they are available on line.

    There a business and need to appeal to majority of people who cannot avoid the real deal. We are lucky who can afford the speedmaster

    And a tiffany Rolex shouldnt sell for 30k when its a 5000£ entry level garbage. For that price people should look at Patek , Lange and VC dress watches.

    That is exactly what happened to me in Toronto! I was in 60th spot and then 20 mins before the store opened, there was a massive rush and I now was at the end of the receiving end! After 17 hours of waiting from my new position, there was no watches left. I would have received my watch (in the position that I was sitting in before the budding in line began) if people were respectful of those like myself who endured the cold and discomfort to obtain a watch to add to their collection. All flippers I would assume because it is fairly easy to figure out the true collectors to the flippers. What a sham! And I also blame Swatch for not having security and proper protocols in place to help eliminate what happened, as I was not the only casualty of this launch…..there were plenty of other people who lost out in their opportunity because of these people. DISGRACEFUL! I have never stood in line for 17 hours, for anything in my life and I never will. Glad to hear that they will be available online shortly.     I think the choice to go plastic was more to distinguish it from the OG than to make it cheaply. Probably, they could have made it from SS for a similar price. I agree about the accessibility and everything else, and I like that you acknowledged the "Watch snob" "bias". Great video.

    This new release and launch has been amazing to watch. Everybody losing there mind. Lovers and haters. Its nuts. It's supposed to be fun and this is getting silly. Distribution nightmare.

    Maybe it's one way of Swatch to save the stores. A Swatch store in my location closed up before Christmas. It's a high end mall where the first Apple store and Tesla showroom in the U.S. opened. The mall also now has a Lucid Motors showroom.

    I agree with you. It is a good marketing move aside from brand snobbery perspective. But making it accessible through swatch boutique only is just mad. Although they state that it will be available for purchase online, it doesn't help the fact that you create bad impression on the launch event (especially with covid situation). In summary, great strategy, poor execution.

      Swatch stores have been losing foot traffic the past few years. Have you talked to young person who wants a Swatch and not an Apple watch lately? Swatch store in Washington DC area closed.

    Playstation 5 and Supreme products are mostly sold online and they are mostly scooped up by paid bots of scalpers as soon as they show up online. Somebody I know re-sells Supreme and PS5 to pay for college. Regular people can't buy hyped products online

    I'd actually argue it's genius. Omega and Swatch have pretty much give Rolex a big FU, and proved they can play that game too and have just created more hype around a £200 plastic watch than any Rolex watch has ever had.

      Swatch will then make it fully accessible to everybody, which will be another FU to Rolex as you can never walk into an AD and buy a Rolex. They're just playing them at their own game, but making fun of them by doing so with a cheap £200 watch.

    Omega/Swatch didn't over hype the MoonSwatch ..... that was down to the watchworld commentators and hyperbolic online reviewers who wanted in on all the clickbait oppertunities.
    If you shout fire in a crowded theater ..... then they'll be a stampede for the door.
    Calm down dears .... It's just a watch.

    The only counter point I would make is putting it online makes it much easier for the flippers to use automated bots to clean up the market. In store you have some chance, online you will have none.

    I have to say the speedmaster 1861 was my dream watch. It still is. However last year I tried both 1861 and 3861 on in a local boutique. I want one even more. But I seen this moonswatch and thought I might do it but I am conflicted as I'm a guy in 40s and I still think the 1861 or 3861 should be my goal. Not this Swatch? I fear I'd pay 200 quid and be disappointed

      Buy the real thing. If you can’t afford it, keep saving. This new release is nothing but a cheap, plastic quartz watch. It’s nothing more than a pathetic marketing ploy by the swatch group.

    To me, it shows just how much money watch manufacturers are making out of a piece of metal, the vast majority of which are made on a assembly line. It just highlights what value a car is, with all the electronics, watches are overhyped and overpriced. Don’t get me wrong I also have been quilts of being conned out of my money.

    Couldn’t agree more, basically it’s a great idea, making a great watch accessible to everyone, although the Swatch Group aren’t. A plastic, quartz watch could never replace the iconic Speedmaster, so buyers and owners of Speedmasters will see this for what it is a bit of fun. The way the Swatch Group has gone about this is dreadful.

    I'll stick with my actually great plastic watch. G shock 5600... its classic, its a third of the price and I can do pretty much anything with it on.. these things are just pretty toys, final destination - the bin....Speedy is great. These are NOT a Speedy or anywhere near a Speedy

    It’s a marketing coup that’s been trendjacked off the chart by social media & the press. The chaos is the sad fallout of hype, and greed, nothing to do with the brands. Swatch were completely unprepared for such a response, but how could they ever have gauged that level of craziness!

    Good vid mate.
    For my own case, I've been on the fence about the Speedmaster 3861 since last year. Undecided between it and Steve McQueen's Monaco caliber 11.
    Fast forward to 26th MoonSwatch's launch, went to Swatch boutique at 8am, thought I get myself a Mission to Mars but left once I saw the 1500++ ppl.
    Sat at a café, decided there n then n walked into a Omega boutique, 3861 it is.
    So I don't know if any of y'all here has the same reaction as mine or the opposite?

    It's not a collaboration when one of the parties is coerced. According to a Time and Tide article, Omega was not keen on doing this in the first place so your hooker analogy is spot on.

    I absolutely 💯 agree I don't see the appeal of this watch at all with the hype and I actually was going to buy a second Omega but going for Zenith instead the tipo cp2 43mm or a chronmaster tri color. The flippers are having a feild day. Yes insanity
