I’ve owned both many times but I believe most people who own Rolex want to impress other people and if you wear an omega you impress yourself!

The Omega Seamaster is worn by the chap, the worldly gent and dapper businessman. He is happily married, and a dutiful father. He gives to his community and he is liked by all.
The Submariner is worn by his wife’s boyfriend.
I heard you out to the end. Rational representation of your thoughts. Especially the part about wearing a Rolex for status and consequently having to hide it. I love Rolex for what they have accomplished that a stockholder based company won’t. Omega has the engineering to back it up, are enjoyable to wear and don’t have the status cult attached to them. You’re wearing an Omega because you appreciate the watch not the club. I don’t consider kissing the ass of a retail business selling watches to be a life accomplishment milestone. For this reason the last 4 watch purchases 3 were Omega.

@wristopia4101 ... indeed. There's too much rivalry between brands, fighting over accuracy, bracelet clasps and prestige. It's like a mental asylum riot while G-Shock owners really know the truth :D
Have both, and very much agreed. Doesn't mean I don't like to wear my rolexes, nor does it mean omegas are better, but yeah, very much agree.

I bought my Planet Ocean last year and I wear it way more than I wear my GMT master. The Planet Ocean was from 2012 and didn’t have the modern micro adjust clasp, I brought it to the omega store and they even helped me put on different bracelets, clasps and straps (including ones from modern Seamasters) to try out, the service I got was simply fantastic.
I have 2 Rolexs, but have become an Omega fan boy. I just picked up my 6th Omega. I also have a Tag and a Grand Seiko. But long live Omega!
Great points.. Own a 2 tone Aqua Terra and got brand new for 45% off retail. The only thing I really don't like about Omega is that they're overkilling the whole Moonswatch thing, which I think cheapens the brand. They should've just stopped after the first round of releases.

I am fortunate to have a Sea Dweller and a Speedmaster. Different watches for different purposes and I love them both. Buy the brands/watches that YOU like and think for yourself. Good video, thank you.
I like both, but you are right... I would rather walk around wearing an Omega in public than a Rolex just for insecurity.

A few years ago I had to choose between the Aqua Terra and the Explorer. The Aqua Terra was not only beautiful, but 30% off. It was the one with the vertical lines, not the latest version. The choice was very easy.
How is the Explorer? 😊

@@johnprosser5035The Explorer is my favorite and one of the most iconic watches that Rolex makes. Had mine since 2015 and it’s my daily beater. Goes with just about everything.
I own Omega and Rolex. I find both brands well made, well finished and a delight to wear. I find sticking a Rolex on a rubber b strap a fun way if mixing up my Sub, which is an option already available with Omega. So Omega definitely offers more fun within the brand. I think you get better value for money with Omega nowadays versus Rolex. But hey, first world problems.

This is a tough one. I like and own both, Rolex and Omega for different reasons. Rolex is a product of nearly a century of refinement. You really feel the quality and balance in the overall build of the watch. The design, love it or hate it, is faultless. Omega, on the other hand, is decidedly not Rolex, and I LOVE IT. It's challenging, forward, and unbothered. Seamaster Heritage is like a Sub, but it is different and has an elegance that the Sub will never achieve. Technically, it is a better watch than the sub; it is more stylish, has better movement, and the finish is nicer. In my opinion, the clasp is better, though uglier. Rolex has magic and has captured my imagination of adventure. Omega is my rebel; challenge me and see if I don't beat the brakes off of you. Omega is like Steph Curry to Lebron; great players, one is considered a GOAT...But, deep inside you can feel it, that lil dude is a beast and got 4 rings the OG way!!!!!

Omega make great watches and at the end of the day buy what you love thats all that matters.
Rolex have been bladdered by social media which has caused fatigue especially when its combined with Rolexs conservative design language.
Rolex just make a beautiful watch for the money, I think at retail most models are worth every penny. They are comfortable, will last you your whole life and the fact that they typically retain their value and appreciate over time makes it such an attractive proposition
Seem like Rolex buyer are happy and proud to own a Rolex in real life and this is somehow a problem? lol ever met a sad unhappy that they bought a Rolex in real life?
Omega on the hand always show up to the party sad and having to explain themselves why they own an omega and not a Rolex.
I own a Seamaster and wear mines daily. Rolex makes you feel like you want to hide it due to fear of being robbed in public. Cheers mate!
I like 40-42 mm Omega watches and 36 mm Rolex watches. Just my opinion through personal experience.
I believe Ohm-egga is correct, big O and mega not meega, Omicron has small o as in micro. So the O is either mega, ohm or micro, om. This from a qualified linguist I met some years ago.
“Different folks have different strokes”!! And all I want is a reliable, easy to maintain watch. I would love to have either of these watches but unfortunately I don’t belong to the 1%-er club!😮😅😂

I wear both Omega & Rolex. In my opinion, both are as good as each other. Omega is easier to wear for me as straps scratch less than bracelets.
- Rolex GMT Master 2 "Rootbeer" Stainless Steel and 18k Rolesor Gold (3285 calibre)
- Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Stainless Steel and 18k Sedna Gold on brown leather strap (9904 calibre co-axial master chronometer)
- Omega Seamaster 300 Chronograph Stainless Steel and 18k Sedna Gold on rubber strap (9900 calibre co-axial master chronometer)
All three watches compliment each other and are all built with similar quality.
But I also love my Grand Seiko watches... just to mention... ❤😊
I have a sub bluesy & Daytona and love both of them. Looking at Omega, I would only buy used as they lose so much value. Very nice watches.
I bought my Omega Dynamic back in 1975 from Zelly's in Bishops Stortford, I'm wearing it now. I might have considered a Rolex back then but as the years have passed, they've become less desirable to me. Back in the 60's I would have jumped at having a Rolex, if you gave me one now, I'd say thanks very much and cash it in straight away. I've never regretted buying the Omega, it was the right watch for me, and It'll see me out.
100%......I don't even consider Rolex - will not play the games. I buy what I like not what somebody says to buy to be in the club. My Aquaterra is the perfect one and done if that is what I wanted to do.

I always hear "Tudor is no Rolex"...but on a technical basis I would love to know just how much better Rolex watches actually are especially for the price difference - I happen to own both in my collection but really dont see a vast difference that warrants a multiple over the Tudor.
I overall agree. The only Rolex I own is a 34mm OP, largely because I know it's a Rolex but almost no one else does, including thieves. It's also not worth enough to be a major target anyway.
- I'd say Omega clearly wins in all bang for buck aspects, even if both are at retail.
- For now, I think Tudor offers a very similar level of value to Omega, although this may change. Unless METAS is particularly important to someone, give Tudor a look. I love my BB 54.
- one slight disagreement. I would say that any of us buying "luxury" watches have some interest in the prestige, even if it's just for ourselves and not to flex. You could get a "functional, fun, attractive" mechanical watches for a lot less than Omega.

Totally agree with your comments about Omega. I own several Omega pieces varying from 15 - 60 years old. I have no interest in owning a Rolex because I don’t like the image the company has developed. From what I’ve seen the latest Rolex movements are a match for the Omega co-axil movement’s. I think Rolex have been working hard to improve accuracy and power reserve. Without Omega I get the feeling Rolex would just be resting on their laurels
Interesting perspective and experience. I love my Planet Ocean, Omega are so much more accessible than Rolex. As much as I admire Rolex I don’t like what the brand has come to represent. Who needs that bs as an average person? My taste in watches continues to evolve and I now find myself looking at other brands like JLC and Glashutte Original. I’m not sure what the next watch will be, I really love what I have right now but the journey is so much more interesting than Rolex versus Omega.
I love Omega too…. But as a tool, are they as tough and purposeful as Rolex ?
Good video , I agree with what you say very accurate, I own a couple of Rolex and I agree they can be a bit boring. Good for resale value (steel sports) . I'm just as happy wearing a citizen or bulova , Casio etc most of the time .
My first true luxury is an smp300 and it's an absolute tank. I also own a Rolex and it's distinctly underwhelming from purchase through to ownership. Omega any day over Rolex for me. Speedy over pretty much any Rolex.
Totally agreed. It is indeed a BIG THING you close the idea of wanting something via completion of the purchase. I love watches and l love Rolex stories, but definitely not to the degree willing to keep my desire open for months until someone from the AD approves it, which in my opinion one of the most ridiculous things in life. I am happy to skip the Rolex and just buy a watch from higher tier and even happier knowing I am not the potential Rolex owner the AD wants to see 😄
Rolex makes excellent quality watches, with time-tested designs. But the brand has so much extra baggage right now; flippers and resell speculation, amd the impossibility to but at retail that results from that; it being the go-to, obvious status symbol brand of the nouveau riche, etc.
Omega is free of all that baggage, and the watches are just as good IMO.
Also, lyre lugs; Can't beat that.
I am agree everybody buy what he wants,i like omega but i prefer rolex,i own an airking 34mm buy in 2011 and she is always perfect,but i understand rolex can be hated because off the rolexAD who are intolerable

Love that 60th anniversary it's a banger. People shit on omega, panerai, and cartier but they are more interesting design wise IMO than Rolex and you can pick up some bargains in the pre owned market which is always good.

For me, Omega's only benefit over Rolex: you can go into any AD and obtain almost any model at MSRP or lower without waiting. That's it.

Rolex is the most well known brand and I think because of that people are more interested in them, but there are tons of other brands like Omega that make amazing watches just as good as Rolex and they can actually be bought at an AD.
i just buy my first luxury watch seamaster 300 in blue ..rolex no thanks buy a watch you go in the store that not intend to buy just to go on a wait list for years for the rolex you wanted

I have 2 Tags as well, it makes me feel good but I want the OMEGA symbol ... not the crown , and it's THE END of the watch hobby at that point.
I feel like Omega has lost it's way a bit these days. Far too gimmicky and the price hikes make many models poor value at retail. They can and hopefully will do better in the coming years

I used to love Omega but they fell off. Hair found under the crystal with crazy price hikes and not to mention. They're marketing is straight up embarrassing. I'll stick with my my Rolex Submariner 14060m that's been a faithful companion since 2003 along with my Heuer 981.006 Monnin JUMBO with the olive drab pvd. Omega isn't the great brand they once were. With that said I love vintage Omega. Would love a Omega speedmaster Mark 3 or a Flight Master

I said the speedmaster 'professional'. There's a difference. No one is forcing people to buy limited editions. You can always go for the standard moonwatch. Way more interesting than any Rolex I can think of.

Omega have better movements than Rolex in terms of accuracy, magnetic resistance and shock resistance. Not to mention the fact that they are readily available and for not crazy money.
I'd question some of that.
My Rolex GMT Master 2 "Rootbeer" 3285 calibre is more accurate day to day, than my Omega 9900 & 9904 calibre co-axial master chronometer movements.
All three are nice watches though and are accurate to COSC
I bought all three watches pre-owned with next day delivery on all of them. Overall big savings.
