Sometimes, during the hollowing out of the front guide spring channel, with the myriad of tools used out there, a minute amount of debris finds its way into the hole for the take-down spring. And, as usual, we all shove the take-down spring into it's hole, compressing any shavings down and then not letting the spring seat all the way. I find that using a stout sewing needle to probe the hole, digging out anything down there will let the take-down spring seat fully.
Your absolutely right ! And its possible that could have happened with this one . I didnt use a needle to scrape it out but i did hit it with some cleaner and compressed air . But i didnt even think about using a needle to clean it out ! Thanks for watching and taking time to comment ! Great tip!
This is great, very informative. Impressive how you tracked down such a subtle cause of failure to function. I knew about the slide lock spring issue, but only in relation to binding the recoil spring and preventing the slide from fully returning to battery. But causing the slide to sit too far forward? That was news to me. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks so much for the comment ! Yes I was surprised as well . And I came by the thought after many nights of deep contemplation lol I lost some serious sleep lmao
I’ve been having a problem with my p80. The issue was the the slide would not go into battery after it was racked all the time at back and it felt like it was binding on something and I could not figure it out for the life of me and stumble upon this video and I do the same thing and not it works perfectly! Thank you so much!
Glad you found a fix. Another cause of this issue, and something that should be checked on every build like this, is the sear/striker interface. You can check the interface using an inexpensive armorers plate. It should have 80-100% contact. I would err towards 80% as anything higher than 100% will cause this issue. Too little engagement can cause binary fire. The actual adjustment of the cruciform can be done using a vise or an adjustable wrench.
Over polishing can cause auto fire as well Ran into that once Scared the shit out of me because i wasnt expecting it Threw that whole trigger bar away and ordered a new one In my experience you save headaches by matching parts Just buy OEM glock parts Because the tolerances will mesh perfectly
I suppose it's to do with the possibility that it's an 80 percent and if the person that did the other 20 percent made any mistakes it would just be too much trouble for the Smith. I dont know really lol I like a challenge so I take on the ones nobody wants to mess with lmao
Check the trigger spring attachment to the down leg on the crucible, also there can be an interference fit with the trigger bar where it hits the frame at the trigger block.
Thats awesome im so glad that helped out! Yeah i tried that on this one and it kept bottoming out . So even better you didnt have to alter the spring ! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Yup, had same issue. My P80 wasn't going fully into battery if you racked it and let the slide down slow, it kept getting caught. Was tearing my hair out trying to fix it. Re-ground the rails, oiled the shit out of everything, made sure the guide rod wasn't getting caught up in the channel. Turns out it was the stupid takedown lever spring... Snipped off a tiny bit of it from the end the goes into the frame, gun cycles like a champ now.
I think you did an outstanding job with this video. I found the information very well explained. I myself just pick up a Ploymer 80 lower to replace on my personal carry glock 23. I just built my first one of these. Had the same issue. Those slide lock sprigs they're sending out are way too long. I cut mine down quite a bit in order to make it fit. Just to be safe I ordered an OEM spring and the difference is crazy. Needless to say I put in the OEM spring and it runs flawless.

Florida gunsmiths will work on a zip gun if you pay. I got help with my P80, the only mishap in my assembly was the cruciform spring being upside down. I took to the armorer before the range 🙂
I have a poly-80, and everything seems to be right, except when I hold the trigger down and rack the slide, I can ease off the trigger, and it will fire again. So the trigger won't reset properly. Any of the safeties won't catch the firing pin. I'm stumped.
Thats a pretty dangerous problem you have buddy. Im totally not being a wise ass , but were you the one who did the kit or did someone else? Check this article out. And search doubling and it should give you an idea of the list of could bes .
@Fake It or Make It I did the kit, it is a serious problem lol. I've had this weapon for a while, have been changing parts, and doing all the research I can find. To no avail. I'll check the site out. Thanks
I watched that Intel you sent. I acutely just got in a oem glock connector and tryed it out. Same thing happens. So if I take my thumb and press down on top of the slid it will reset the trigger ok. But if I ever so slightly nudge the side upward it will fire even if I have the trigger held down. So frustrating
I`m having issues with the slide . It won`t rack. I`m narrowing it down piece by piece. I haven`t figured it out yet, but I got nothing but time. Everything seems to be together right, and the slide works without the barrel and recoil spring.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Your definitely on the right track . Its just a matter of narrowing down each particular component and knowing how they interact. Seems like maybe a barrel to slide engagement issue maybe ?
As long as you get the pins drilled correctly and install the parts correctly .. learn how to polish parts they look pretty plug and play , but yeah you are building something so take your time and be 😎👍
Ran into an issue where the slide was sticking slightly as the slide unlocked, turns out removing material from the top of the locking block is a thing that very few people mention and took me ages to figure out.
Hey thanks for watching and taking time to comment ! Thats a really good point ! I really want to get a p80 for myself and do one from start to finish as this one was already "built" . I would like to see what issues i encounter.
@@fakeitormakeit83 There are good reasons to, the p80 glock 26 is actually a better glock 26 than glock themselves make since it has a better trigger guard, better texturing and a rail. So its not going back far enough to lock back 🤔. It could be a few things and hopefully some one else will chime in . But what i would do is go over the entire thing with a fine tooth comb. Really look at all the mating surfaces after moving the slide back and forth . Look closely for rub marks and wear marks that could be stopping your slide from reaching its final destination. There is so many little nuances on these types of projects that have to be looked at . But at its most simple its parts rubbing somewhere that shouldn't. I would even say if the wear marks are hard to see use a sharpie to color the suspected areas and see if any sharpee is removed . But i would say just a guess that somthing is going on up.towards the front of the pew . Check your pocket for where your spring is make sure its not binding on anything and your slide rails are in good order .i hope some of that helps!
@@fakeitormakeit83 yep its like a a smidge short of going back the whole way. I've built this before and never had this problem and can't find a vid or even a web page with someone with this issue.
Man I didnt snip it per say . I took a small needle file and just worked it down until I got good functionality. On this particular one It prolly took maybe 1/32 off if memory serves me correctly.
A problem I ran into on my first build. The next three I did I covered that hole with Scotch tape before I ever cut, dremeled, or sanded anything. all it takes is a little bit of dust to get down in that hole and then your slide lock spring won't go down far enough.
I have build a g17 just like this like last week, and it shoot 7 perfect. But when I changed the backplate and tried to shoot it it stopped… and I noticed my pin is kinda doin the same thing
One thing to keep in mind is that what your most recent change was on the piece is usually the first place i look if i get malfunctions after installing it. I know it sounds obvious but the types of projects require success by eliminating issues one at a time as you identify them . If you install somthing and it stops working , reinstall the old part and see if it functions again. If it does study the difference in the parts , if it doesnt look deeper into what these particular parts do in the function of the piece . You gotta basically turn into sherlock holmes !
Hey I’m having trouble with a p80 going back into battery I sanded down the take down spring to fit correctly and took just a little bit more then needed with the spring channel I just can’t find my problem I even rounded out my safety plunger and all of my parts work together my slid just won’t go fully back into battery I would love help on this fix
Hmmm so my first question would be . Is there any wear marks on the guide rails or on the slide indicating that maybe there is something up with the frame tolerances that are not allowing the slide to go all the way forward?
Yeah i actually had measured the depth to make sure before i went at the spring with a file lol! The recess was just a tiny bit outa spec . Thanks so much for commenting!
Mine is the opposite. I need to push my slide forward sometimes in order for it to fire. I thought My recoil spring was too much for the round. However I noticed that my spring isn’t straight like it’s supposed to be. What would you recommend swap the spring first?
So it could be a few different things if its not going into battery i wonder if there is any wear marks on the guide rails or on the barrel lock up area ? Or maybe an area of polymer impeding proper function?
@@fakeitormakeit83 I found a little flaw in the guided rod rail nothing major but perhaps it’s the reason for the malfunction. When I go to the range I’ll find out if the issue has been resolved. I appreciate your assistance!! Thank you.

There is a lot that can be happening with that. Ill just venture to guess that the first place i would look is making sure all your mating surfaces are not binding. Maybe look for wear marks in the frame that shouldnt be there. Its hard to diagnose without actually looking at it.

i studied it closrly and I can see the feed ramp hitting the locking block and polishing wont correct it. Either barrel, slide, or the 2 together are out of tolerance and must be replaced. I will contact US Patriot armory about it today. Dang! the slide looks great too.
@@dreed7312, MarineGunBuilder has a whole video on locking block issues. I found a new one that he didn't cover. It needs to be flush with the plastic tabs and even front-to-back. Causes all kinds of other issues if not.
I hope that the problem im having when I cock it back the shell load it won't fire after I cock it again it eject the shell reload then fire was that the same problem you have ?
If I'm understanding you correctly yes basically the slide was going too far into battery and causing issues with the disconnect and firing assembly to not drop the firing pin

A lot of polymer 80 builds tell you to cut that spring
Yeah lol I definitely learned alot after this particular project.
spot on!!!! Same issue on my 80 build...
Thanks for dropping a comment buddy! I really appreciate it !
@@fakeitormakeit83 Np!!!!anytime💥
@@fakeitormakeit83 no it’s a jsd supply slide I’ll do some more sanding to the rails and get back to you on how everything tuned out
@@ChrisKyle902 yes and as im sure your well aware just take your time and check your progress often 😉
I had the same issue, for me I just didn’t have it sitting all the way, just pushed it down a lot harder and it sat in perfectly.
Is it a ploymer 80 ? Or is it a actual glock?
@@fakeitormakeit83 polymer 80
So it could be a few different things if its not going into battery i wonder if there is any wear marks on the guide rails or on the barrel lock up area ? Or maybe an area of polymer impeding proper function?
@@fakeitormakeit83 I found a little flaw in the guided rod rail nothing major but perhaps it’s the reason for the malfunction. When I go to the range I’ll find out if the issue has been resolved. I appreciate your assistance!! Thank you.

It’s amazing the scorn you receive when you inquire about polymer 80’s
Oh man I know ! Theres a lot of attitude when it comes to stuff like this . I got my ass ripped for a video I posted doing a little light review of a 19x for calling the coating on it cerakote. So I took the damn video down lol I got tough skin but man some of the people on the internet can be vicious! Lol I'm just trying to have fun !

This tends to happen when the takedown spring isn't seated all the way.
Yes sir absolutely! I took a modified feeler gauge and slid it down into the recess and it kept bottoming out . I imagine it was a slight flaw in the original manufacturing. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment ! Merry Christmas!
@@fakeitormakeit83 I had a little piece of debris in mine from clearing out the channel. Drove me up the wall trying to figure it out. I think I was more angry when I finally did figure it out and realized how small and simple the issue was.

Thanks for the video
Your very welcome !
For any new viewers it's called slide drag shouldn't be hard to fix
every time I rack my slide to put a bullet in the chamber it doesn’t cycle id literally have to help it in buy playing with the slide I haven’t shot it yet I’m more than positive it will jam is there any way I can fix ?
There is a lot that can be happening with that. Ill just venture to guess that the first place i would look is making sure all your mating surfaces are not binding. Maybe look for wear marks in the frame that shouldnt be there. Its hard to diagnose without actually looking at it.

Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!
Good info thanks
So how did it perform after
Hey buddy sorry I'm just seeing you question! It performed flawlessly! Fixed it right up!
Look like a gen5 lower parts kit
Put the parts on a serialized gun and then take it in to gunsmith. I've built a few. Never had this issue. I was wondering if it was parts from a gen4 or 5
Good video thanks

I voted this up but didn't like listening to several minutes to learn the problem was one I don't have. Think you should be more specific about it. Im looking for vids on slides that wont go on unless barrel is left out.
I appreciate your input . I honestly have no idea what I'm doing on the video part so I do apologize for that . I like to make the videos as means of expression and never realized anyone would actually get use out of my videos lol but I will definitely try to do better . Thank you again
Also did you ever find any help with your problem elsewhere? Seems like what your describing is theres too much material in the barrel chanel
i studied it closrly and I can see the feed ramp hitting the locking block and polishing wont correct it. Either barrel, slide, or the 2 together are out of tolerance and must be replaced. I will contact US Patriot armory about it today. Dang! the slide looks great too.
@@dreed7312 man that sucks ! I sure hope they make it right for you! Be sure to keep me posted !
Mine had that issue and It was just a trigger bar out of spec
I could definitely see that being an issue ! Thanks for checking out my video and taking time to comment!
All states should have the self build statue 🤬🖕🏼
Mine only does it when a round in the chamber ‼️‼️help‼️‼️
Hmmm is the slide and barrel of good quality? Is the rounds your using reloads or factory loads ? Only doing it with a round in the chamber seems maybe somthing is out of spec some where around the breach face and where the slide locks up with the barrel?
Is this video about over jeeeesh
