7 years later I got a knock off Tamiya light kit for my wife's 72 Chevy. This video helped. The Vaterra has a 4 channel receiver, but only a 2 channel radio. I just put the channel 3 wires together. Now the extra headlights flash when you squeeze the throttle about half way. Those flash to pass lights and the red brake lights were connect in the wrong ports. Swapped 'em over and bang! Light kit ready to install. Thanks!! 00
I watched all your light reviews and helped me decide on the right one for me. Saved me some $ and headache. Sorry but you had me laughing quite hard a few times at your frustration. Reminded me when my wife asks me to help with the Christmas lights. Thank you!
I have spoken with my contact at Tamiya USA and this is not a Tamiya product. Some kind of knock off. For your info, Tamiya currently has TLU-01 LED Light Unit (53909) which can be used stand alone or with the control unit which supports 2 TLU-01 units. Control Unit - TLU-02 LED Control Unit (53937). You can connect 16 LEDS (8 Sets) to each TLU-01 unit with the TLU-02 unit allowing you to connect 2 TLU-01 units and use them together for a total of 32 LEDS (16 sets). It's a little on the pricey side though
I figured as much. The quality is awful. I do have those sets but as you mentioned, the cost is quite alarming for the average hobbyist. I have light kits on most of my cars and I cannot justify $200 per car for the Tamiya units. They are quite well made and great to use though. Thank you for the information!
@@AMPROEngineering How much!! I've the Tamiya Audi Quattro Rally car kit, in the kit gives an option for working lights, this is new to me! Last time I built a car was back in 1991.....I have thought about getting the light set but $200 is just crazy, infact no need for such a high price.
This is a nice thought. For the cost of these, it is hard to justify my opportunity cost so these $7 units are awesome. Well not this one, it is crap but some of the others I have covered.
All right! Finally someone on youtube that has an intelligent review of products. Not just some poser showing off his lame bolt on or double sided tape job. An actual review. Bit opinionated but after all that is what a review is. Lets see what the forth light kit is like. Thumb up on this one.
You know, the light that does on when in neutral, I think is usefull for Cabin Light.. So, when your car is stop, we can see inside the cabin, but when your car is running, it'll comes off.. and ch3, we can use for head lamp. Could control by remote when we want to turn it on.
Yeah, i did the same. I just left the blue out all together. It may end up with blue headlights if the white one's ever fail 🙈 I went a bit further and moved the throttle channel neutral using subtrim so that the red brake lights only came on when the trigger was pushed away from neutral. I think the value was in the low 30's. A word of caution for the less experienced in using subtrim in large amounts on the throttle, as your ESC may not recognise neutral/off and you take that to be a faulty ESC.
Trying wiring it in properly. Reverse lights are not red in any vehicle so brake lights should be on until you touch throttle and clear lights should come on in Reverse and blue would be pretty common for headlights.
Thank you for your show, it is very educational for rc newbies like me. I watched you show, and tried connecting the lights, the lights came on when I finished the connection, but it seems to interfere with steering, the steering won't work while the lights are on. What should be dine to correct this?
the other lights that stay on are like park lights. but sadly they go off when throttle is hit and break as well as reverse. if you add a light switch between the ch3, you can have flashing lights for the set that turns on with the switch. and when the receiver is turned off, hazard lights turns on. i'll post a video of my set up once done with additional lights.
Take the kits you threw in the trash and cut the led lights off. Solder and make your own light harness the way you want it and power it by a 9volt battery box with on/off switch. Works well, no headache an no waste. On some of my cars I added a cheap infared remote control to the system that gave me the following features: On/Off, Brightness 100%/75%/50% and nine (9) different modes of flashing and various speeds. 9volt battery box & infared remote control unit was less than $12.00

Ok.. so I got this kit today. I have plugged everything in, but the ch3. I need that for the light bar. now.. I have 4 orange blinkers that work as turn signals, and I have switched the 2 white with 2 red LEDs so, when my car is stationary or moving forward, front lights, and rear red light work. When I start to go in reverse, the red ones turn off, and the white one start working ( as normal reversing lights do). I still have 2 blue LEDs which only work from 80% plus forward throttle. Not sure what to do with them.. I don't need high speed blue lights on my cherokee crawler.. lol.. I've unplugged them...
I’m building the TT02 Audi Quattro and have painted it a really interesting ice Pearl summertime green and got the stickers all dialed. Would like to rig the dual 3 light fog lights as well as two main headlights. Which would be a total of 8 white LED’s up front. And I’d still have to do the back lights. What’s the solution - rigging up 2 of these kits that you are working on here on 1 car or the TLU-01 and 02 ? Or some other pre rigged kit? Or doing what Mark Bryant RC did on his video and rig up a full custom light rig? I’m torn because I feel the Tamiya light kit is not at all cheating. Still A Lot of work. Regardless of how it’s rigged up I want to toggle them on and off from the handset. So i don’t know if this is complicated or compounded further when rigging dual multi light systems. Want to dial in the lighting before I go figuring out the Yeah Racing hop up kit to the frame

I bought one of these and it’s junk, for different reasons though.. mine worked ok for 1 minute then it started stuffing things up, my steering servos stopped working, the led unit did something to my tamiya esc, even once I removed the lighting unit my steering servo would not operate, I tried the servo in a different receiver it worked fine, I tried the other receiver in another car and that was fine, after 30 minutes of having everything unplugged all my electric work ok again as long as I don’t use the lighting kit, 20 years of rc and never come across anything like that before, these are junk
I bought 1 of these and it came wired completely backwards and it fried my brushless esc. Get it replaced with exact same thing and none of the wires are in the correct places so now I need to lnow the correct spots for the diff colored bulbs cuz there's 4 spots that blink but it makes the blinkers stay on solid like parking lights I'm so irritated. Every other 1 of these I just hook everything up and it works fine
Definitely fake. look at the Tamiya font. Totally different. Plug diagram does not correspond to plugs for sure. For some reason, mine makes the servo turn backwards. So, when I turn left, the lights flash left but the wheels turn right.
That would make perfect sense if this unit had a flashing operations. Sadly, this unit is totally worthless. It seems all of the ones I have found have blue lights for "drifting" though that still makes no sense to me.

I have no idea. When I plug it into the radio 3rd channel and operate the remote switch, nothing at all happens.
Hello comment sa se branche ? Vous allez trop vite
il se connecte au récepteur.
I got the same product and my turn signals stay flashing? I don’t know what todo
I think your remotes steering trim is set too far to one side. Try adjusting that.
All of the turn signals say flashing
Stay*
Like all 4 do?
Yeah all 4
Is this safe to use?
Safe, yes. Good, no. I cover much better ones on this channel.
@@AMPROEngineering which other do you recommend?
is it possible to wire 2 Kits @ the same time ?
Hmm, I think it is possible but you may draw too much current from the receiver and burn it out.
@@AMPROEngineering so, is it a high risk to burn my reciever? Or would it be worth a try?
Well sounds like it worked for you! That's good.
Just got a hg p407 trying to figure it out
Are you trying to figure out the truck or the light kit?
@@AMPROEngineering light kit
Is it this same kit? Does this video not cover something?
I think this thing keeps burning my receivers on the throttle channel. Anybody experienced the same?
Oh I have not seen that but honestly I am not surprised.
Not my receiver but it did kill my esc
I almost bought this XD, i almost got my ass handed.
Yeah it is junk.
@@AMPROEngineering You're really the most underrated youtuber and the most under appreciated. Damn, I'll get you more subscriber dude. I'll go to an RC forum or group and advertise you. Don't worry dude.
what is the common sense rc link
I would google it. The addy changed.
What a pile. Thanks for info.
Oh yeah, 100% crap. One of the worst ones I have reviewed.
This is not TAMIYA product???
No it is not.
This is not a original Tamiya unit
Nope, it is just branded as such. It it bad.
Its chinese, 8 bucks from aliexpress.
Yeah, these are pretty bad.
its not a real tamiya product just for your info
Yeah that was my assumption.
It's probably got blue lights because lots of emergency services round the world use blue lights
That would make perfect sense if this unit had a flashing operations. Sadly, this unit is totally worthless. It seems all of the ones I have found have blue lights for "drifting" though that still makes no sense to me.
Thanks for the reviews BTW. I've just bought three sets of your last review from Aliexpress :-)
Oh good!! I hope you like them!
At 15 dollars,it cannot be a real Tamiya product, the quality is not there
Agreed. It is bad.
Your time stamp/ titles are annoying XD. i dont know where i am now!
Time stamp?
@@AMPROEngineering Oh, i mean the title episode. I really don't know what product you're revieweing after i have clicked on the video and you'll give us a review about it.
Tamiya does not make this light kit. Absolutely DO NOT make it. And I would like to mention that it ISN'T TAMIYA MADE!
Yeah it is trash.
