I remember one time when I was a teen my mom and grandma sued someone. They had to go do a deposition, but it was over 2 hours away at 8am in the morning. They woke me up at 4am to leave by 445am. While they were meeting with the lawyers they left me in the lobby. I passed out on the couch! They were in the office for hours and I slept on the super comfy leather couch! No one woke me up. 😂

To me, the woman’s stealing sounds compulsive, and she’s trying to make sense of it as much as the court is. That’s not terribly uncommon, whether it’s related to long-term drug use, mental illness, TBI, etc. That doesn’t make it excusable, because it’s your own responsibility to seek help when you have a destructive and disordered behavior like that (especially when you’re in a community with resources for that, as Debbie said), but it possibly provides some context to why she would shoplift a few random items out of a huge order she didn’t even pay for with her own money.

These blow my mind. With jails crowded everywhere, I can't believe they through so many people in jail for traffic citations. If they did that where I live, people would be sleeping in the shower stalls. I couldn't imagine being pulled over for a rolling stop at a stop sign and going to jail over it!
