    That reveal... what a moment it must be to see a livery you create make its way to an actual race car. Turned out fantastic

    • @howtodrawcars.
      @howtodrawcars.  Год назад +1

      M- I'm glad you liked the reveal. I have to admit the "moment" was not as dramatic as you might be imagining. I was present and supervised the wrapping of each of the cars. There were many times when the wrap team was going to do things one way and I had to instruct them on how to best get the look that was in the drawing. Slowly over 2 days, the designs came to life. Eventually, we pulled them from the garage out into the light of day and I got to see them in all their glory. That was the "moment" of this project.
      Shortly after, they were put on a truck and sent to Mid-Ohio raceway where they went on to win the National Championship. I watched the race live on RUclips and every time each car came past the broadcast booth, the announcers commented on how beautiful and exciting the Audis looked.
      The whole process is very similar to doing an exterior design for a car. You start out with a drawing and work with a team of sculptors (vs. a team of wrappers) to bring the design to life. In the case of my exterior designs, you're sent out to what is called a "job shop" where the final fiberglass model is created. You spend a lot of time going over every millimeter of the surface to make sure it's what you want. Eventually, it's gets painted and put on the truck and shipped back to the Design Center.
      So the big moment for the Audis was right before they got put on a truck. The big moment for my production car designs was when they got offloaded from a truck. Either way, the moment is a happiness that no one can ever take away. It makes all the hard work worth it.

      Once you get the technique of HOW to sketch, the problem then becomes WHAT to sketch. You need a creative foundation to launch your ideas. That's one of the themes I wanted to get across in this video. Glad you "got it".

    I had to give you hand claps for that final result. There is always a difference when a person was already a fine artist, before engaging in a field like Car Design. The creativity shows it.

    • @howtodrawcars.
      @howtodrawcars.  4 года назад

      I agree but I have worked with many very creative and talented people who came to car design from other areas. They had different skills and awareness then I. This is why a car company hires a broad range of people to design their cars. Each brings a different perspective. The right person with the right skill set on the right project can mean the difference between a car no one notices and a car that wins Car of the Year. I try to do what I do to the best of my abilities. My clients respect that. Glad you liked the result.

I have a huge portfolio of award-winning work. If a client can't get behind my ideas because they need to see every nut and bolt, then they're not a client for me. • @howtodrawcars.
      @howtodrawcars.  3 года назад

      3-D modeling is very important and one skill most aspiring car designers do not work on enough. I am talking about real 3-D modeling in clay or foam or other material, not playing on a computer. You will have to make models in design school so the earlier you start the better. Moreover, working in 3-D will help your drawing skills immensely. Drawing is the accepted way of communicating your design ideas within the industry. This is why you have to be able to draw so well. In the end, you have to be able to draw and make models of vehicles that do not exist yet.

      Here are the traditional definitions -
      a: chiefly British : an identifying design (as on a vehicle) that designates ownership
      b: a servant's uniform
      c: the distinctive clothing or badge formerly worn by the retainers (see retainer entry 1 sense 1) of a person of rank
      d: distinctive dress : garb
      When applied to cars, specifically race cars, the definition could be read as: the distinctive or identifying design, usually graphic in nature, that separates one cars visual appearance from another. I hope that helps.

    SO IS IT USELESS TO MAKE 3D MODELS ON COMPUTERS? I MEAN THE LEVEL OF ACCURACY IS A BENCHMARK WHEN WE WORK WITH COMPUTERS THEN WHY DO WE NEED TO MAKE 3D MODELS OF CLAY?

    • @howtodrawcars.
      @howtodrawcars.  3 года назад

      If you're an aspiring car designer who wants to work for a major auto manufacturer, you have a small window of time to make this happen. Many people want to achieve this dream but the reality is there are only a few positions that are open each year. In order to make sure you can get one of the few positions available, you have to be one of the best. What happens if you spend months learning software X to do your 3-D modeling but the design school you get accepted to is using a different software package? Now you have to learn a new package.
      Could that time you spent learning software X been used to improve your drawing or real 3-D modeling skills? Think of it this way... Learning a software package is like learning a new language. In this case, let's say that is Spanish. So now you know how to speak Spanish. Great. But you're not going to Spain, you're going to Japan. What do you do? Yes, it's great that you can speak Spanish but that is not going to help you order lunch in Tokyo.
      Learning to do clay models and developing the sensitivity to real surface development is like studying where all languages come from. With this foundational knowledge you can quickly learn any new language. Computer modeling is just another tool a designer has in his or her tool box. Using it at the expense of developing other skills that will help set you apart is just adding to the risk in an already high risk situation.
