It will never cease to amaze me how the *victim* is the one expected to be the bigger person and forgive and forget. Absolutely not. Fuck that. The OP in the first story is under absolutely no obligation to attend that wedding. Zero, zilch, nada.
The thing I don't understand with stories like this is why do people feel the need to call and yell at friends and extended family when they don't do what you want. The only reason why they want to have OP go is to legitimize their relationship. She's under no obligation to attend, friend or not. They can pound sand.
Story 1: OP needs to file a lawsuit and a restraining order against Josh and Ana, what they are doing is harassment and infliction of emotional stress.
I find it so funny about the last story, where the father is all like “no art, it’s useless” and when I was in college, I originally was doing History Museum Studies, and yet my whole family (parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents) all begged me to change my major to art (I went into studio art either emphasis on photography and sculpting) because it would be such a waste for me NOT to do art. I’ve always had a lot of artistic talent(I was the only one in my family to get my great grandmother’s artistic talent, and they wanted me to go into art. I’ve been very blessed with such an amazing family!
Last story he is definitely TA. Just wow. You don’t know her that well? That speaks volumes about what type of dad you really are. Stop being so controlling!
The last story: dude has major “MY family MY rules” issues. It sounds like he just uses his wife as an extra mouthpiece without thinking, “my wife has a name, she is a human being and an independent one at that”. I guarantee the reason why his wife is closer to their children than he is, is because she actually listens to them and recognizes that she’s raising them to be adults and not follow in her footsteps of being with someone that clearly only wants to be right.
OP is not the jerk. I know a couple both of them have art degrees. Neither of them can find jobs that allow them to use their degrees. An art degree is worthless in the US
The one with the new parents: I disagree with the narrator. What the husband does seems to me to be him faking helplessness and cluelessness so that he has to do less around the house instead of genuine exhaustion. So the reaction of the wife is very understandable. Yes, talking with him first about canceling the subscriptions would have been the right thing to do, but when she talked with him about his attitude again and again it did not change anything, so I guess she was tired of doing all the work by herself and thought of a solution to afford a maid. I don't personally think speaking to him first would have made a difference in his reaction to it.
@@yasmin7903 I actualy read the story and this was the consenses that op didnt do this for the reason she should but out of sheer revenge. not talking about it juts deciding to take everything away out of anger and retaliation if it was justified or not isnt the point she is just plainly lying about her motivation for doing it
@@dwaynejackson551 an oppinion shared by the majori of people who responded it wasnt even close. also it might be an fact even but only op knows if thats true
Last story: Maybe OP could make an agreement with his daughter, that if she doesn't find employment of some kind after x months from graduation, she has to take out a loan and pay him back, if finding employment is his only concern? And yes, OP is definitely the jerk. He did not communicate with his daughter nor with his wife regarding the issue and let them decide it between them and then, after them deciding on her studying art, suddenly he is unhappy and refusing to pay? Even in the end he keeps saying "I expected my wife to talk her out of it" without talking to her, sorry mister, your wife is no psychic and cannot read minds! And that does not even adress the issue of him paying for all his other children to go to college, no questions asked, but not giving the same treatment to the youngest! Honestly, if he didn't speak about an older daughter, I would have assumed sexism here as well. But it seems to me plain favoritism and thinking his children must make similar choices to his or their choices aren't valid.
I was expecting a different angle, such as a malicious compliance where the OP did go to the wedding and then made a speech at the reception that she did the deed with the groom the previous night. . . . .
The last story is a bit nonsensical in the sense that artists can be commissioned worldwide. Even if there is no "market" for them in their country of origin, they can still get clients from other countries. And if the artist is good, it can lead to a salary that can be higher than said country's average :P
IF they are good. There are so many "Artists" out there who thinks they can make a living of it and are way to full of themselves. She also didn´t had future plans HOW she want´s to turn her passion into money.
I'd go to the first story's wedding... and make a speech about how they cheated on me and betrayed my trust and then forced me to go to their wedding just to try and rub it in. Then finish it off by saying how I'd never forgive them for the cheating nor for being forced to go to their wedding. Mic drop, then I walk out.
OP on the last story really isn’t the jerk, if what he’s saying is true then art means nothing. I get the whole dreams and passion thing but if you’re not in a first world country then something like art would literally just be a waste of both time, energy and money
The dad in the last story is a jerk. He doesn’t seem to actually be listening to his daughter. He seems to only hear “fine art degree” then stops listening. Depending on the college they can have really good resources to help find jobs. He also isn’t coming to the table with anything. He is saying hard no without even suggesting other degrees. He doesn’t know his daughter enough to even suggest other avenues, he expects her and his wife to figure it out after he said no Edit: there are plenty of other degrees too that are “useless” because basically the only jobs you can get with them are teaching that subject or aren’t necessary to get into the field.
The first story. This one is a very weird one to be honest, why are so many people trying so hard to convince the OP to go to the wedding of those cheating backstabbers. The only theory I can up with is that the ex-boyfriend and ex-friend still feel guilty about what they had done but if the OP shows up at their wedding it might be sign that they could be forgiven for their past action. The last story. The father is a bit of a jerk for acting this way but I can also understand his position he has three children and now he has to pay for the third child's college education if he doesn't have deep pockets I can understand the risk of not wanting to waste so much money. He should have talked to his daughter personally instead of having his wife handle it, see if his daughter can prove that she has a talent for art and then weigh whether or not to take such a gamble at sending her to her dream school.
Last story: ... I wonder if there's an option for trade/vocational school? Go to school for something useful; then go to college for passion that way if college fails the daughter has a back up and can still have a career and a decent job while in school and it won't be a waste of money then..... That's what I did....
Story 1: Wow, everyone here, apart from the OP, are all major losers. How can you honestly expect someone to come to the wedding when Josh cheated on you with Ana.... and Ana was by no means your "best friend". I would've stuck to zero contact with them, and i would also cut out anybody that is on their side. I wouldn't even have given congrats to them. The fact that all these people are constantly harassing the OP.. i would be getting the police and even lawyers involved here. Get a restraining order against both Josh and Ana, and give other people a cease and desist of some kind. They clearly wont take a hint. Screw everyone here. Story 2: OP is not a jerk at all here. If this was a one-time thing, then i would think the OP is a little harsh, but this seems to happen every time the OP goes to visit them, and made worse by the unnecessary comments. I think those comments by the in-laws alone make the OP justified in feeling this way. The in-laws sound more lazy to me rather then overwhelmed. I wouldnt want to visit them again after all this. Story 3: I have a very simple solution... EVICT HIM. Who cares if he is/was a good friend, he is a clear mooch and leech and he should not be living there if he isnt contributing at all, and definitely not if his attitude is this atrocious. The fact he was on substances should also be more then enough grounds to kick him out too. Dont need that crap around. Story 4: Not a jerk in the least. What's more important here, the streaming services? Or home assistance? If the answer isn't clear, then this guy is a big loser. There's a difference between being poor with chores and just being lazy. Story 5: Yeah, i think the OP here is in need of a career change here. Stuff like this pretty much happens with 99% of restaurants, especially franchises. OP really shouldn't be surprised with this. Story 6: Yeah, the OP is a jerk here. I dont know where they are here, and i do get that a lot of students out there do squander their post-secondary time on "useless" art-like degrees, but it does sound like the daughter does have a game plan here and she very easily could get employment once she is finished. She very easily could get a job overseas, and the OP doesn't seem to understand that. It also does sound like favoritism if he paid for the other siblings without questions. Who knows what they went into. A lot of people seem to think that a stereotypical 9-5 job or career is the only thing acceptable, and that kind of sounds like the OPs mindset here.
To Story 6, it doesn´t sound like the daughter has any game plan. She has a passion for it but that doesn´t mean that she is good at it. IF she had a solid plan, then there is nothing against it but to support just some "dreamery" of her becoming a great artist is no plan at all. The father doesn´t know much about his daughter but his other kids know about how to get a job, because he didn´t even habe to ask any questions on their career. Because you are dreaming of becoming a great artist doesn´t mean you have the talent for it.
On story 1 Next time someone asks if I am going I would say ok i will go but I will also speak up and object saying cheaters and lies shouldn't be happy then walk out and watch the invitations instantly stop
Yes your the jerk because your husband is trying also you cancel your streaming service, play station, plus and theme park so hire an housekeeper with outvaskins your husband. Op is complaining and her husbands cleaning that’s a bully
With the last story. Narrator, I think you are unreasonable. You don't know the fathers financial situation. Who told you that he has money to pay for her mistakes. He is trying to secure a future for her. If she wants to waste money . Get a job. You are saying it's her life let her do what she wants to do but you are not say it's his money. That's crazy to me
Who says he’s paying for her “mistakes”. That’s just making an assumption. And he’s already said he was going to pay for university until she said what her major was going to be. Your comment gave me a headache trying to read it.
OP was originally gonna pay for her until he heard that she wanted to go into art. Also his entire reason for denying her is because he believes that it won't work out cause they aren't in a first world country. In reality though as an artist you can work worldwide from the comfort your own home, or maybe she'll get an opportunity in school to go work abroad. Sure she's gonna have to work harder at it than most careers, but as the narrator said, most people flip-flop before landing on what they want to do. So trying something out shouldn't be that big of an issue.
@bsouthmama3010 If the man says he don't want to pay for that, can you tell him what to do with his money. Why is the daughters choice more important than the father's?
New baby story, you knew he’d be upset or you would have talked it over first. Sounds like you are both adjusting to becoming new parents. It’s been 3 months. Cut him some slack. At least he tries. So many new dads just do not.

Its always easier to blame the victim apparently.
Totally. Look at our schools, they punish the kids who stand up to bullies, yet those same bullies get “diplomatic immunity”.
Right? It’s why schools (and RUclips) protect and reward bullies yet punish those who stand up to them.
