Like my step kids. Their mother thinks she's hurting us but she is damaging the children. We have a 10 year old that, last year at 9 couldn't read. I bought two copies of a book to read with her to help her and the mother flipped out and said she didn't have to listen to me, that she doesn't need to learn how to read. She isn't hurting me, but her daughter is an illiterate 10 year old

@@janedavenport5989how about getting the police or child protective services involved? Yes, they might be taken away, but you'd be doing them a favor, because this way it's at least guaranteed they will be prepared to be able to live independently. As insane as that sounds, I think that's a bit more important then a happy childhood, because if they loose their "anchor" to finance them, they won't be able tu survive on their own.
My suggestion, get CPS involved. Worst case, they might not have a happy childhood, but at least will gain the ability to build themselves a happy future.
That's at least what i would've done. If it forces them to get an education, this might be best for them.

Story # 1. I'm convinced that monsters aren't born, they were made that way. No good ever comes from spoiling a child to such a degree that they are led to believe that the whole world revolves around them. Yikes, unless this is fixed he's going to eventually spend his life in prison.

    • @ttaylor8239

I find it really interesting that almost nobody in this thread has put any accountability on the mother. I've taken in tons of kids that aren't mine and came from horrible open CPS cases who have been through way more trauma probably than this child, and behind every bit of anger and frustration is PAIN. And she has everything to do with that. She basically if we go by her words that somebody else abducted her child and then she wants to blame the child for what happened in HER absence. I didn't hear anything about counseling, I didn't hear anything about a plan, I didn't hear anything about rebuilding the foundation that needed to be rebuilt. I agree with your comment and I would say in addition to it, the only thing that stands between the monsters and our children is US. I think a huge amount of this relies squarely on the mother's shoulders and the fact that she would then publicly try to shame her son for the situation that she was so intrinsically involved in creating. I find absolutely insane, and a disgrace to her as a mother.

There's clearly more to the story as taking a kidnapped child over state lines is a federal crime where a state judge has no jurisdiction. I absolutely would have appealed the judge's decision to give joint custody to this psychotic old bitch.
After the last incident, I would have requested that the judge order a Mental Health Exam (as well as sending him to a Group Home) to see if there's anything more which could be done, as well as illustrating just how profoundly that the pathologically narcissistic mother-in-law has damaged him.

Maybe the mother should take a little more accountability and responsibility and build the foundation with her son that she should have instead of pawning him off on the system now and completely giving up on him. I've taken in tons of kids that were incredibly troubled and the one thing I found behind every single one of that bit of anger was hurt and pain. The few words that we heard this kid actually say through the story had everything to do with WHY he was acting that way and maybe as a mother she should have figured that out FIRST. You have to have boundaries, but I see far too many parents do this kind of crap and then they wonder why their kids are a mess. Take responsibility, take accountability and look in the mirror FIRST as the parent. That's my advice and then you'll probably see why your kids acting like a giant f****** lunatic. Every once while there are just bad kids, but I don't think anybody who heard the story thinks that this kid started out that way. She allowed her absence to be that long, a large part of that is on HER. Nobody told her to go out and start a new family and ignore the other kid and let the grandmother take the other kid. She did that. It's technically kidnapping and as a parent you have more rights than the grandparents even in states that have grandparent rights. She let this woman take her kid is what it amounted to for the most part and then she took the easy way out because she was busy living her life and now this kid doesn't fit so easily into her life so it's a problem. Reap what you sew lady, had you put some effort into this kid along the way maybe he wouldn't be like this now and maybe that's exactly what she should be doing at this point. Put some effort into the kid that she had basically let somebody else take and then blamed him for what happened during his abduction is what it really amounts to. Would you do that to any other child that had actually technically been abducted? NO, you would get them counseling, you would get them therapy, you would go through a whole process of reunification with the primary parent, it would take time, it would take effort because the child is damaged. There's pain that has to be addressed. You can't move forward unless you do those things and to think that you can is ignorance and she'll never end up having a relationship with this kid. She will have failed him miserably as his mother and he will grow up exactly the same way he is now, but with more resentment and further trauma and further pain due to this experience that he will likely then inflict on everybody else that comes in his path because hurt people hurt people. This has everything to do with HER, and her lack of accountability I find absolutely disturbing.

I had 3 kids, fortunately mine were pretty well behaved. Because I was beat as kid, I really didn't want to do that to my kids, but I knew that a physical threat had to be there. That's why I subscribed to the 3 Swat Rule! Three seats with the hand, no more. During their entire childhood I only had to use it twice on each of my kids. The oldest girl got an extra one from mother. I was lucky. I think 6 swats for each child was pretty good. I used to get twice that with a belt. That's why I dislike corporal punishment, but the threat has to be there. Oldest girl is a teacher, middle girl is a pharmacist, son makes high quality kitchen cabinets. Good kids.

it's a sort of "do right by him" thing. I don't think she realized JUST how fucked up he was as she did it, just knew the grandmother was fucking him up based on her ex. People like that -- her ex, the son, and probably the mom -- actually live horrible lives because of how they treat other people --that, and/or deeply abuse the few who sick around-- and I think the mother was trying to save her son from that... or from becoming an abuser herself.
I don't think she realized it was too late.

  • @zero00044

To be honest the mom should have shown the judge videos of how her son turned out by being raised by her ex's mom. There would have been no shared custody and the judge would have told her that she had no business ever raising a child because she obviously had no idea how to do it. Though to be honest, at times I was just like him as a teenager. If someone wouldn't let me do what I want (usually just wanting to walk away leave whatever situation made me upset) or sometimes not get me something I wanted, I would yell and scream, then fight back when someone tried to restrain me. At the time we didn't know I had aspergers disorder. I'm 32 now and definitely got over that. The difference is that I was raised by a single mom who did everything she could to make sure that I turned out to be a successful adult. I think I turned out pretty well. Even started my own small business this year. Haven't made much money yet and definitely spent way more than I've earned so far, but I believe I will get there eventually.

Thankfully he's such a spoiled brat, he doesn't have the discipline to get fit or learn to fight so he doesn't get physically violent as often probably because my uncles, who grew up in street fights, would destroy his ass if they ever heard of something like that. He always make demands and threaten to run away if his mother doesn't agree, he demands too much money from his broke father and blames him of being a bad parent when his father literally screenshots his empty bank account and sends it to him. He wants to go on a one week holiday than says he's bored the 2nd day and says he'll run away if they don't take him back home. He's such a sad case and I can't picture a future for him.

I don't remember the OP giving her any permission to do that. And even if the father did, that's something both parents have to agree on because they are divorced and he was abusive. What kind of court system does this and *allows* it? She should be reimbursed for every court fee she had to pay to fight for custody over her son that was basically kidnapped by his grandmother, and then sue the judge for allowing her to have custody and causing this to happen, because this is the judge's fault for ruling in her favor.
