Sean, I rewatched that video where you interviewed a guy who works at Dave Ramsey. That's the strategy I want to try. He basically said that you can look at your highest performing videos and look at your retention graph and find the best moments and make clips. Then, take the best moments from the clips based on the graph and make shorts. He also said that shorts viewers do get recommended their long form content if they engage well with it. But he said the caveat is that for your shorts strategy to work for you in this way and be a feedback loop you should at least be posting them daily. And repurposing ensures that they align with your long form content.
I love fishing, and beginning and photography so it's a real passion to be outdoors and sharing, but planning before each adventure, and just enjoying everything 😊

Honestly I want to buy all resources needed to my video or blog but as of now I'm lock of financial .maybe I need a fund to afford and need more free study from you and thank you very from some ideas I really love it for your knowledge shared to me.❤
I took your "Just hit record" advice literally and just started on RUclips last week. I am currently experimenting with both long form and short form contents. So far, the shorts don't necessarily drive traffic to the long form videos. This might change along the line, as my RUclips muscle forms😁 Thank you Think Media team for inspiring me and creating so much value here for beginners like me❤
I use shorts to grow and I keep those subscribers happy as well. But my long-form contents are most important and where atleast 75% of my focus is for this channel
I’m currently building a new RUclips channel to show new RUclipsrs how to start a new RUclips channel as well as monetize that channel within the first 30 days. This of course includes affiliate marketing and other sources of income that people can start using right now instead of waiting for their channel to be monetized. I follow you guys information a lot along with my other favorite RUclipsr Ali.
The reality is you can’t plan success. It just happens. It’s either good or it’s not. You can’t decide to make good content, the universe decides. We can pretend we know but we don’t. Some people have it, some people don’t.
Also my channel is brand new and I have videos that have hit 5k… 10k…. Then right after they go down cause I chose to post stuff that was just fun to me and I knew people wouldn’t care as much but you have to have fun as well or you’ll burn out. Try everything.
Thank you so much, Sean! We have a faceless channel and have been watching you since we started early this year. It's been disappointing to experience slow growth. We are constantly uploading, improving and experimenting. We tried our first short today and we got more action in a few hours than we have in weeks! We even got a sub, which has been a challenge for us. We understand the pro's and con's you outlined and it now makes total sense. We think people get value out of our messages, but it seems they prefer shorter content. We have a clear strategy now thanks to you. You are by far our most trusted source for growing our channel and we are truly grateful. God Bless You!
Thank you for the video and insights, I struggle in the Shorts department. I have tried clipping from long-format but doesn't work well... Now trying to create shorts individually... Long format remains my bread and butter.
I started my channel with only shorts. Lately, I’ve been doing long form videos and live streams. There’s been growth, but not as rapidly as I would like…
@itsLatrellis my friend has been pushing me to do vertical live streams. I’m getting really odd comments as I workout live. I’m thinking of turning off my comments just for subscribers because what the heck. Who are these people behind these screens. Ick
@@keshnadonia Do whatever makes you comfortable. I’ve found that live streaming helps subscribers to connect with you in real time. I would say that there are strange people in this world, if it’s too much block them.
RUclips long-form is still how I make money at the end of the day. Shorts’ revenue is next to nothing and meta doesn’t pay me even though i have at least 10M views on Instagram and 3M views on Facebook. No matter how flashy other platforms and shorts are, I’ll still spend most of my efforts on long-form content on RUclips.
I agree. Even with more run, fb and insta feels like fleeting success. But that’s just my take. Many in my business thrive on flashy platforms and do well.
Shorts definitely grow subscribers for me, but it hasn’t led to watch time very much on my long form. I’m trying to be patient, but it’s hard when you want something so badly!
We got over 51,000 subscribers in 6 months due to a combination of long videos and shorts. Your channel has to work both forms of content to become successful. Most importantly, don’t worry so much about the amount of subscribers you have, focus on having fun creating content, and everything else will work when it does.
Very helpful. Thank you. As we are really very new to YT with this channel, our strategy is inclusive of shorts, but we're not motivated to go heavy with them as they don't feel like they are the right format for what we are doing broadly speaking - at this stage. However, that may change, so your advice is valued.
I've experimented with Shorts a bit, but still haven't put any focus in it. I don't really enjoy watching Shorts much and prefer watching long form so... Hence the focus. Maybe I can find a way to balance this🤔 Good luck everyone💪
Just watched two videos back to back. So much great advice . I uploaded my first video earlier and I realize how much I need to do differently to really scale and improve my RUclips presence!
Awesome master class! Helped me out a lot. I'm in a strange place right now where all I wanna do is focus on RUclips but because I'm a personal chef, short format gets me in front of a lot more people. I'm separating them to wear social media is all about my business and my long format is me going out trying new restaurants and then coming back to make those foods I have had and create recipes to give to my subs. This video helped a lot with my clarity. Thanks again!
I think the shorts are great for views and growth. I have one short that got over 150K views in less than a week. Wish they’d all get those views 😂 I think for someone just starting out, shorts can work out well.
That's awesome to hear! Shorts can definitely be a game changer for growth, especially for new creators. Keep experimenting, and who knows, maybe your next one will go viral too!
Thank you always for informative content. It has helped me grow! Could you please make video on when to shift from shorts to long form video for small channel under 500 subs. What strategy helps to grow subs faster and get out of tiny YT.
Very interesting and helpful info! Thank you for this! I just started my RUclips channel a month ago and I’m having fun and curious to see how it grows. I have only created shorts, but plan to create long videos eventually. 🙏🏻🙌🏼
Hi! I've experienced making both shorts and not too long forms and my journey is not making viral. Now, I'm here learning from and I'm happy with what you are sharing. Thank you for the tips. It is just so cool.
My wife and I just started out movie/tv review channel. So we shoot longform videos one week and use that content as shorts released the next week. That's all we can do right now and we're hoping for solid growth over time.
@@ThinkMediaTV We hope so. We both work full time, but we're just pressing record and doing the best we can. Just have to get back into the VRA classes and keep focused on the end goal.
This video was great, thank you! I'm in the process of reviving my YT channel and I'm finding shorts are a great way to attract new subscribers who are interested in my new content, because they're getting a lot more views than the LF videos. I have a lot of different creative interests, so I'm also playing with a new strategy of featuring different mini projects in my longer form videos, then sharing dedicated shorts for these that I can link back to the longer vlog. I'm excited to blend the two formats and have them feed into one another! :)
We hit the shorts feed right when it was pretty new and not many creators in our niche were doing shorts so our shorts really took off. We try to do a combo of shorts, long and live-streaming. It seems to be working well in growing the channel and also getting those dedicated channel members who return time and time again. It’s a lot of work and we want to grow faster but don’t we all want that? Found this video and all your videos extremely helpful. Thanks so much for helping all of us trying to figure out this complex world of RUclips!
from what I learned shorts is a dead audience when it comes to longevity. they wont watch your long form videos which is where creators really should be focusing their attention. sustainability should be the goal over going viral.
New RUclipsr here and I'm personally "long-winded" too, but I also am trying to ramp up my numbers, views-wise; so what I'm now doing is doing my long-form educational content {which fits my work personality}, and putting some motivational content up on my shorts feed because that suits my "deep-ish" personality too. And then I optimize the shorts with tags related to my long-form content.
As an animator the short format was great since I was forced to make only 60second long videos. It allowed me to practice my animation and storytelling skills but also had the satisfaction of sharing my cartoons with others.
i’m 3+ years on RUclips and have not reached 1k subs, yet I’m still here. Keep going, guys, don’t give up! Best wishes to all the small channels out there. Let’s go! 16
Overall, the shorts receive more views but my long versions receive more likes. On TikTok, it doesn’t even matter how long the video is, I get more likes and more views exponentially.
New channel here, been doing shorts which has helped get some exposure. I believe long form video's work best overall though - currently building an audience 👍
Excellent content. For me: 1. Shorts for entertainment 2. Shorts for testing audience and video ideas 3. Shorts for brand awareness 4. Shorts for sharing latest news/ ideas 5. Shorts - love 60 seconds limit 6. Keep the RUclips channel active Long form all the rest...LOL
Agreed focus on one thing at time, master how to create one good long form video a week, then figure out how to do two, then figure out how to do three, then think about diversifying ...
I’ve had a RUclips channel for just a little over four years and it’s slowly but steadily been growing. I like the long format videos I have on trains personally, but I think maybe my like of the style that I do is suffocating my growth to a certain extent.
Thanks for this, I actually started RUclips shorts this year, around September 25 or something, and I think I will keep on creating RUclips shorts until I have enough subscribers then use both formats, btw I'm a newly graduate and I really don't see myself working 9-5, I don't want someone to use my own time, and now I'm on exploration finding my purpose, and RUclips is one of them but It's not doing well as of now, but I will still keep doing it, and for those who are in the same situation, I hope you find your own purpose, Goodluck guys
Lol, I love the 'sugar high' vs 'going to the gym' analogy! It's so true. Shorts can give you a quick boost, but long-form content is the real deal for sustainable growth. Have you seen any channels that do both formats really well and manage to keep their audience engaged?
I’ve been posting 1 short daily on my new channel in the last 3 weeks. I have a lot of videos on my phone from my travels over the years so the content is there. I’m still working on quality regular videos though. I’m not used to filming horizontally.
This one’s so hard for me, man. I grew my channel 20,000 subscribers in like a few months all because of shorts and now when I’m trying to post more longform no views.
"Thank you! This is really good and practical advice. I’ve been using remixing shorts as a strategy to grow my subscribers, and it’s been working well. However, I still need to increase my watch hours. I’m thinking about slowly incorporating more of my own content into the mix. What are your thoughts on transitioning from remixes to original videos while still keeping the audience engaged and boosting watch time?"
I just started my channel, but I’m getting very little views on my videos but a bit more on my shorts. Shorts seems to be the way to get people to my channel. Hopefully I can get better at this and see how it plays out.
I found shorts are great for my art channel to grow followers, but the people that watch the 15 second short do not convert to long format views so I have had a very tough time gaining watch time. Even with almost 50 long format videos. Compared to the almost 200 shorts I have.
I started really only posting shorts but have started adding game highlights in longer videos. The views aren’t great but I know I need to keep doing it to be successful
I've been diving into animation for the past three months and have started sharing my work on RUclips. I'm thrilled to have gained 275 subscribers already! It's been an exciting journey 🚀, and I can't wait to share more🎉🎉.
What about the fact that the attention span of a short-viewer is shorter than the long-viewer? Will this not negatively impact your channel stats if you mix long and short formats? Heard of many creators that you should not do both for the same channel but to separate these from a channel perspective - what do you think??
I appreciate all the many RUclips channels I watch, but I swear, out of 50 videos I watched today, about 45 of them said “buckle your seat belt” or “buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride.” Really? Can we please find something different to say?
This was very interesting but hope you can answer a question for me. I am new to RUclips just reached over 500 subscribers which is amazing but in my YT Studio it reads 159 hours watch time but when I go to the Earn section it says only 11 hours why such a difference thanks 🙏
I feel like shorts are more important early on to get you attention and your first 1000, but really turns into low effort (hopefully from repurposing) organic brand awareness to catch your true ideal audience that’s a short watcher that also watches long form.
I feel like Shorts have actually hurt my channel in the long run. Shorts viewers don't seem to follow up and watch long form videos. Longer videos are what end up paying the bills in the end

I’ve been posting 1 short daily on my new channel in the last 3 weeks. I have a lot of videos on my phone from my travels over the years so the content is there. I’m still working on quality regular videos though. I’m not used to filming horizontally.
Thanks for the awesome advice! Good Luck everyone!
If you are reading this, don't give up, You will make it!
Just keep uploading your great content.. ❣
FYI: You can change the thumbnail on Shorts, but you have to do it through the mobile app, and you can only select frames from the short itself.
This is so helpful!!
This one’s so hard for me, man. I grew my channel 20,000 subscribers in like a few months all because of shorts and now when I’m trying to post more longform no views.
You got this guys
Shorts been growing my channel❤❤
I needed to hear this... thank you Sean ❤
Very information!Hope for the Best ❤Thanks for Sharing
I just started my channel, but I’m getting very little views on my videos but a bit more on my shorts. Shorts seems to be the way to get people to my channel. Hopefully I can get better at this and see how it plays out.
I need to start doing youtube shorts and work on my marketing.
Thanks for the information
I found shorts are great for my art channel to grow followers, but the people that watch the 15 second short do not convert to long format views so I have had a very tough time gaining watch time. Even with almost 50 long format videos. Compared to the almost 200 shorts I have.
Focus more on long-form and less on shorts.
You’re the best Sean!
thank you for the advice❤❤
Shorts continue to hurt my channel. Biggest mistake I’ve ever made.
I started really only posting shorts but have started adding game highlights in longer videos. The views aren’t great but I know I need to keep doing it to be successful
It's awesome that you're diversifying your content! Consistency is key, and every video is a step towards success. Keep pushing through!
I've been diving into animation for the past three months and have started sharing my work on RUclips. I'm thrilled to have gained 275 subscribers already! It's been an exciting journey 🚀, and I can't wait to share more🎉🎉.
How long is too long for a long form content? and how short for long form?
Here are some tips: ruclips.net/video/c8mGNK4osTw/видео.html&pp=ygUhaG93IGxvbmcgc2hvdWxkIHlvdXR1YmUgdmlkZW9zIGJl
Thanks for all the great videos
What about the fact that the attention span of a short-viewer is shorter than the long-viewer? Will this not negatively impact your channel stats if you mix long and short formats? Heard of many creators that you should not do both for the same channel but to separate these from a channel perspective - what do you think??
Long form videos got more pros. Thanks for the great info.
I appreciate all the many RUclips channels I watch, but I swear, out of 50 videos I watched today, about 45 of them said “buckle your seat belt” or “buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride.” Really? Can we please find something different to say?
Long Form video is for long term vision; and Shorts could I say it's for short term vision?
Great content! Thanks for sharing :)
Appreciate you Sean!
Thank you! I appreciate your support and kindness, it means a lot!
To all small content creators, just keep grinding. We will be monetized soon .
Very informative and helpful. Excellent 👌👍
I'm glad you found it useful!
you are amazing keep going!
For me shorts are fun to do as a creative challenge, but means little or nothing for subscribers and is 95% another audience than long format.
Thanks for sharing 🎉
Success is not built on success. It's built on failure, It's built on fraustration. it's built on fear that you have to overcome. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life.
Hey Sean. Do you or your team have any videos on the edit process? Or does anyone in the comments have a tutorial on editing videos particularly for product reviews for software and or info products?
