No Image / Black Screen on PS4 | Reset the Video Resolution

- If your PlayStation 4 all of a sudden is not displaying any image at all or just a black screen and together with a message saying "Check Cables", "No Input" etc. this can be due to a number of things.
One of the most common reasons is though that something has gone haywire with the output resolution of the PlayStation and the perceived one of your TV or monitor. Making the TV simply not understanding what´s going on. Resulting in a black screen.
Luckily the PlayStation 4 has a built in function to reset the video resolution outside of the actual operating system. A function called Safe Mode. This video showcases how to enter that function and to change the video resolution to what it should be. Something that will hopefully solve your black screen issues.

Hi! Sorry to hear that. Have you tried connecting the console to any other TV or monitor? Also, worth a go to try and disconnect both the TV and the PS4 from power for about 10 min and then retrying the procedure again after plugging them back in. // Chris

Hi, my ps4 is still showing the black screen and when i tried the safe mode it didnt show up it is still black.I checked the hdmi port and nothing seems to be wrong i also bought a new cable and nothing happened, i figured it might be because of overheating? Hi! Hm, I wouldn't say that overheating (if it is) has such a direct effect as that the console isn´t starting properly att all. However I might definitely be wrong. Turns out my old hdmi cable is not working(i tried it on another output) but the new one i bought works.. i also cleaned it as shown in the video you sent, Rip i might have to get it repaired problem is i have no money im just a kid 😭 my money is somewhere 17-20$ when exchanged to dollars

hi, my monitor turns on and off when i turned my ps4 on. And when i did the safe mode, the monitor doesn't display anything (ps ; it shows safe mode, but the monitor turns off and on automatic forever , and when i clicked on the change resolution option, it restarted the ps4 and didnt show any display on the monitor) . I've tried using my ps4 on my tv and it works normally. Please help. I bought vga converter to hdmi two times already.

Hm, hard to say what could be causing it. If you haven´t already though I would actually try with another HDMI-cable. The behavior does sound like it could potentially be a semi-broken cable. Specially if it has worked like normal before. Also I´d try another TV or monitor, again with another cable, to try and rule out what could be causing the issue. // Chris

@@user-gn1px7it6z Hm, well then it´s definitely something going on with the PS4 itself :-/ If it was me, my next thing to try would be a factory reset. Instructions can be found here: www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/how-to-factory-reset-a-ps4/ However only do this as a last resort and be sure to back up everything from the console before starting since _everything_ on it will be deleted in the process. Also, IF there is actually something wrong with the console doing a factory reset could, at worst case, make matters worse. So performing one is at your own risk. Might actually be worth taking the console to a repair shop and just have them look at it first. There might be some setting or some easy fix that will solve it :-) // Chris

Hey so when I click change resolution In safe mode I see the ps symbol but after it turns black and I can’t see the blue think that lets me change the resolution it just turns black

It didnt work for me. I got through most of the stages. When it came to picking the resolution, I picked 1080p which is my tv resolution (1920X1080) but still went back to "no signal". I tried picking Automatic as well, same thing...please help
Hi! Hm, odd! Have you been able to try the console with another TV or monitor, to see if it is the same issue there? Also be sure to go through the settings of the TV or monitor you´re using to see if there is anything in there that could be causing it. Something with refresh-rates, HDR-modes etc. // Chris

i have a similar issue, when i turn my ps4 on, it will on and later do a restart and I'll be left with black screen but I can hear the Audio and when i operate the GamePad it's functioning.
I'm using a smart TV.
but when i change the TV to non smart tv the ps4 work normal.
and if i remove the HDMI cable from the non smart TV and connect it back to the smart TV it will display normal and i can play games however if i then restart the ps it will go back to black screen again.
unless i first connect to non smart TV and then switch to the smart TV.
also once it's connected to a different TV i can turn if completely and connect it with my TV it will work but if it goes off or i restart the ps I'll end up with black screen...
and when i boot into safe mode it will display but once i select change resolution, it will restart and the screen will be black but i can change the resolution by guessing and scrolling up/down and it still won't work after that
Hi! Tricky :-/ It does sound like something odd is going on in the settings of the Smart TV-mode on your TV. I´d probably start there. Could there be some kind of energy saving setting that kicks in on the TV upon restarting the PS4 and prevents the TV from picking up the image? Other than that I am unsure what could be wrong. But I would guess that the issue is somehow related to some kind of settings, most likely in the TV. // Chris
Mine is just showing blue and it not displaying white light and when i try the safe mode it turns off
Hi! That´s odd. Have you tried unplugging the console from power for a few minutes before testing? Otherwise I´d start with that. Is it the same on all other TV:s or monitors, if you have tested others? // Chris
Do I really need to use the same usb charger that came with the game to get into safe mode?
Hi! No, any USB-cable that fits and is not a charging-only cable should work. So most micro-USB to USB cables :-) // Chris

@@VENDYCONNEZ Hm, that's odd! The cable shouldn't really have anything to do with the actual boot into safe mode. But only makes it not possible to move around in the menus if the cable isn´t capable of data transfer. Have you tried connecting the console to another TV or monitor to see what happens? // Chris
@@GetThereFaster yes I tried 3 different TVs a medium plasma tv, a small plasma tv and a large plasma tv. None of them worked

When i do the step my ps4 wont load into the change resolution setting the only thing i can use is just the safe mode nothing i even tries to reinstall software using usb it says cannot reach storage

@@GetThereFaster i tried that too but my ps4 keep turning off i even downloaded a hole brw ps4 system and data base restoring my ps4 keep freezing when I turning on and somtime turn off by it self idk what to do i even cleaned it
@@firasalkteb1555 Then I would say you have done basically all you can to rule out software issues. My guess would then fall to that there´s something hardware-related going on. Whether it´s the HDD or something more severe. Suppose you could try and replace the hard drive and see if that does anything. Next step after that is basically the motherboard, but then it's probably more cost effective to buy a new console I´m afraid :-/ // Chris
This is strange because when I connect to a PC the monitor displays well but as soon as I connect to my PS5 it goes to a black says screen resolution out of range😢

Hi! If the screen is still black after doing the video reset the issue is most likely something else than the resolution being off. Have you tried any different screens/monitors? Also make sure to check the brightness and contrast settings on the HDMI-port you’re currently using for the console. Hope you’re able to solve it! // Chris

@@GetThereFasterHey I’m having an issue in which relates to this video though in my situation, I turn on my console it starts out with a blue light color then to white after seeing the ps sign my screen then goes black, I’ve already tried changing my resolution from safe mode but after it restarting it just goes back to black screen, I even bought a new power adapter and a new hdmi cable but it’s a 4k hdmi cable so maybe that could be the problem? I might of messed up buying the wrong cable? the type of tv I use is a Panasonic i also tried on a different tv as well but nothing, I don’t know man this whole situation is stressing any information you may have would help.

I am far from no expert here but if the colors are changing during startup this _might_ indicate something odd going on with anything related to the graphics card in the console. You could try a factory reset via the Safe mode menu to see if that solves anything. Bear in mind though that that will delete everything currently stored on the console :-/ Other than that I would probably recommend having a repair shop take a look at it to see if it might be something easy-to-fix. Doubting that the HDMI-cable would be the problem if you´ve already tried a few. Hope you´re able to sort it somehow. Sorry not being of any real help :-/ // Chris
