PS4 HDMI Port Repair - White Light of Death Fix - No Signal

- Please do not attempt this repair if you do not have the skill or equipment to do so. We show you how to correctly replace the HDMI port on a PS4. This job can be done in about 20 minutes if you have the experience and tools necessary.
PS4 HDMI Port Repair Tips:
-Be sure that you are using a good HDMI port. Many that you buy on eBay and Amazon don't line up correctly
-If the port is not hot enough it will not fall out and the circuit traces may tear off of the motherboard...still fixable but MUCH harder to repair.
-Don't use a heat gun...just don't.
-Soler each of the 19 pins on to the motherboard. Make sure there is no bridged solder pads and that each pin is soldered to it's corresponding pad.

Never did a repair like that, but i definitely like the quality. Precise, not too long, just professional. Thumbs up!!
Someone want to explain why this didn't become a "Sony issue" and why we're stuck fixing their crap again?
I think it’s retarded that taking out the hdmi cord does damage at
All, my cable box and computer never get damaged from me unplugging them.
@Brandon Kick I unplugged mine once just the other day since I bought it new two years ago and bam apparently it's broken
judoslap59 same man same, she’s in the shop as we speak.
Damn, I personally own 3 PS4s, and literally all of my gaming buddies have PS4s since around launch and we've unplugged our systems multiple times. Ours has never broken. Must be a you problem guys.
All it takes is one knock and it's toast. So it could last the life of the unit, or one week. Bad design; the port should have been a separate module, connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. Sony saved a dime and this is the sad result.
I’ve been watching your videos for three years and when my special edition gold PS4 stopped working, your disassembly video made me confident I could repair it. Now it works better than it has in a long time! Thanks TronicsFix!
Glad I could help
Great tutorial. Easy with the right equipment which most people dont have. You take a lot of pride in your work that HDMI port will last the life of the console now especially if you used 60/40.
Thanks! Yes, it will last the life of the console as long as people don't abuse the port.
@TronicsFix could you fix my ps4 i got it for Christmas 4 years ago and the hdmi port just stopped working I would like to know if you could fix it
@Jordan pollard 😂
@DOMINIC TEJADA sure just go do something for him for free in exchange
@DOMINIC TEJADA cool you bought a new pc to replace your broken ps4. Did you sell the broken ps4?
Reminds me of solder school at Honeywell. I started out on a magnifier but I really liked using the scope. So much more precise. Your videos are great and educational. I think I have one of those PS4s you’re speaking about, so uh oh. Not broken yet, fingers crossed!
Steve...I am new to the technical world and so far, most of what I have learned is because of your amazing skill set and professionalism. I honestly couldn't have gotten as successful as I am in this craft without your expertise. You guys by far are the BEST!
You, sir, earned a subscription. I don't know how many PS4 HDMIs I've done, and that trick to boost the pin side of the port with the tweezers is pure genius. Well done!
Thanks for the sub!
I love this dude, he even answers people back. How cool can you get.
Nice tip using the tweezers to prop the port up. I've never seen that before
Yep, works good
Also you can flip the board and a little bit of pressure and will be the same

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad I found this video! I think I'll just try & save up & send it in to your shop. I definitely don't have adequate tools for this!
Sounds great!
@@Tronicsfix hey can I have your address
looks very professional and the results are awesome.... I am a beginner in soldering and have done a number of very bad soldering perhaps because I use bad and cheap stuff. I didnt know that I need to apply soldering flux to make soldering better... To detach components have been very hard for me and by watching your work I may be better off getting one if I may afford one. Thank you for providing us with an excellent how-to tutorial to make us better at soldering.
Malin Yamato af Lääkkö Flux de-oxidizes the solder, making it flow better, and helping it to "find" the Pin/ Anchor you're trying to solder. It's a necessity for good solder work
Great video! To the point and no fluff. Very good example of how to do it right and making sure that it's better than just "good enough". Great job!
Thanks!
There should be a recall on these things!
This was my first microsoldering job and your technique works great! I ended up heating from underneath so I could see the pins line up, covering the board with aluminum foil. Thank you so much and happy holidays!
Why the aluminum foil?
@@bluepsiongamer4909 Ah I see. One concern I have is isn't aluminum a conductor, so if theres an electricity source nearby, you're risking shocking the motherboard.
Just thinking of it logically.
But I could be wrong, which I'm used to it 😅
Very well done and clearly explained.
10/10
dude I love your channel and I think you deserve to be way more popular because you put a lot of work into your videos.
Thanks man! I'm getting there...last year at this time I only had 2k subs.
@@Tronicsfix indeed you were :D
Excellent soldering job. Look forward to more of your videos.
Thanks!

TronicsFix , I am a canadien from quebec and the port HDMI of my ps4 is broken, how can I fix it when I am just a kid ? Can I send it too you ?
TronicsFix how much do y'all charge for a hdmi port fix? And will it be cheaper if I buy the port then send it in for replacement?

Thanks!
Oh yeah
I’ve never soldered a day in my life but thanks to this video and your instructions I was able to repair my own ps4 hdmi port!!! I am not nearly as good as you but I somehow pulled it off! Thank you so much!!
Came here hoping to fix it by myself. Walked away realising that is never going to happen.
Im 13 and I can do it
I did it bro 💀

@@yvlc oh bro I’m only 13 and it took me 2 attempts you should get a professional to do it or jus get a ps5
could you remove the port without the hot air station and just using the soldering iron?
TronicsFix thank you so much for your awesome videos, I was in a place where I needed advice and I wrote you an email and you responded promptly and were very helpful, that is what I call going the extra mile, you're alright in my book.
Great! Glad I was able to help. I don't always have time to answer every message, but I do try.
your carisma has grown man since this video, congrats!
Love your repair tutorials, would like to see one about solder mount repair. Top 5 mother board repairs .. something like that.
Nice and so smoothly, just amazing work 👍
Thanks!
Hello, can you tell me witch flux do you use for soldering when you place new HDMI port?
Yep...I use paste flux. You can find some i my Amazon shop: www.amazon.com/shop/tronicsfix
This is RMA-218 Solder Flux Solder Paste for BGA PCB Repairing?
I am impressed with the video and have a PS4 packed up and have paid for the repair service. I look forward to getting all repaired. I checked locally and could not find a company that I was confident could make the repair. Plus they all wanted more than what you charged.
Sounds great. We'll get it fixed up for you!
I replace it for 25, new port is 5 so I am good for 20 , here where I am it's quite good. Well if we count soldering flux, electricity and so on maybe I am good 18 per port , still good. I wouldn't get any job here in Bosnia if I make higher price. At the end you dong it very nicely so thumbs up for that.
That's a lot of HDMI ports and Cool video Tronic.
Hey thanks! Ya, and that's not even all of the HDMI ports!

haha Im here because You Broke Something thats a good one
I've got that same shirt!
So pro Steve, as always. Great video.
Thanks for posting this, it worked perfectly.
Thanks for the video. It takes me many hours to desolder the hdmi stick with a hot air station at 900 Fahrenheit degrees. Of course I use flux. Is it too low temperature or any tips for improving the time spent on it?
Thanks!
You can use a little bit of low melt solder to help the joint melt at a lower temperature
chances are your soldering station isnt reporting the right temp, if 900 isnt melting solder then something is wrong and most likely the air coming out if the wand ISNT actually 900, yuou should get hold of a good thermocouple and measure the actual temp.
If you are using one of those common garbage wands. That's your problem. They lie about the temp and they suck.
I really want that shirt haha
wish I had the tools and skills to be able to do this, but great video
hi, I'm trying to use hot air @480c but having hard time desoldering the mounts free. is there an alternate solution? I saw one person mix in low melting solder, then using hot air.
I replaced thermal paste, but this is another level
I have everything but the scope and the hot air station. Just found one for $50.00 and ordered it. Considering I just got this PS4 for free I think Im still ahead of the GAME...This video was perfect, thanks!
Good luck! Let us all know how it goes!
Where are u located
How for free
I fixed my ps4 but didnt really have to do much. But after watching your vids I'm super confident I can become a repair man as well. My buddy has a xbox that has a bent up hdmi and he wants me to see if I can change it so I been doing tons of research and I feel confident I'm gonna nail it.
Did you fix it
@@PandaPlayzPro yea, I've actually fixed quite a few since writing this ! =D
This week alone I've fixed a free 250 gb ps3 disk drive and also my buddy told me his ps4 wouldn't take disks in or out so I gave him 75$ for it and 30 minutes later it was running like a top. Thank you SOOOOOO much for sharing your knowledge and repair skills.
$75? he was "your buddy" You sure about that? lol
@REDNECKTECH81 yea I sold it for 150 2 days later wtf are you getting at?

Love your Hako setup!!!
Hey Steve my names Mike just had a question I got a ps4 that was smashed I put new case fan and battery it boots to wlod so took apart I'm grounded all over the place, got any suggestions on what would cause multiple grounds and boots to white light
Hi Mike! So it boots to the solid white light? It's always hard to know with drops or "smashes"! If it's truly and HDMI issue I'd be checking the filters and the ic chip. If you're trying to find the short then try removing the chip and see if the shorts go away. If they don't try removing other stuff until the short goes away. Keep me updated.
So it does boot to white light the filters are okay, I remove ic chip I still got the grounds but it's not the only thing that's grounded it seems like most of the resistors are reading to ground
Went over the board I didn't see any cracks any suggestions that would ground so much stuff at once
Great video, would love to send you my ps4 to fix but I'm assuming you don't take them from Canada, maybe I'll try fixing it myself haha
Frank Jones, all you have to do is mail it in.
When I try to look up videos on how to repair. I always see they use some solder paste from a syringe, but I can't ever seem to find a product like that. Unfortunately, all I can afford to repair these with is a hot air gun. I managed to get a Hakko FX-951 for really cheap, but otherwise I just can't afford/justify paying so much for the few repairs that I do. I still need some good solder paste though, any help? Also, I can never seem to get the previous solder to melt, it doesn't matter how long I hold that solder iron on there it seems like it takes the temperature of the sun to melt it after I've removed the port. (I had to do it in two parts, because I removed the port before realizing I didn't have the correct one and now the solder wont melt!)
Literally learning so much from this right now, can't thank you enough for your content. Is their a "cheat sheet" for testing different sizes of diodes, resisters ect.. as far as troubleshooting readings with a continuity tester?? Just wondered ??🤔 thank you again btw
Nice video
Thanks!
Do you have another place you sell the HDMI connector? Amazon shows 3 weeks for shipping, because of COVID-19. Seems a bit ridiculous.
Clint Patton i’ve ordered a lot of things on amazon recently, those 3 weeks seem to be the worst case scenario cause my things arrive within only a few days. Could just be me though
Use Ebay ma guy
I just got mine off ebay. Only took about 4-5 days.
Would you say that a cheaper HDMI port is just as efficient as a more expensive one? I’m seeing the prices range from $2 - $20.
Clear video.. clear audio... smooth.. how i like it. .:,D
Great video.........I am a big fan of your work i actually have a ps4 right now with a hdmi port to be replaced, but no one can do it where i live.............I live in the Caribbean on a island call trinidad and tobago........!!

What Hot air gun you had before its expensive to buy this one immediately
This video is gold.
do you still do these on the orginall ps4 because i need my hdmi port fixed
Shaleisha Jones THIS!!!
Yes he does.
This was the most epic video I've seen about hdmi replacement. Great job Steve. I have a small question, would you recommend buying a ps4 pro or I should wait for a better version, regarding the hdmi port and heat. Again thanks steve for this video my inner geek loved it. Notice me Senpai :3
Glad you liked the video! I would probably buy the pro. It has good HDMI ports, it seems to cool relatively well and there's no way to know when Sony will be making another version. Just my opinion.
Thanks Steve your opinion is important. You got alot of cool gadgets in your shop :3
Yep...love going to work every day!
I replaced my hdmi port a couple years ago, and worked find for about a year. However, now the picture and audio will occasionally drop out for a few seconds or less and then come back. It seems to happen more when the ps4 is just starting up, but some days it happens a lot when playing and other days it could be on for hours and not glitch out unless you touch the hdmi cable where it's plugged in. I have tried many different cables and while some are better than others, they all do it. The video and audio always seem to go out together when it happens. Do you think I need to replace the port again, or could it be a bad solder joint or bad ground? I would appreciate any insight before I replace the port again. Thank you.
You make it look so easy. Ima let a pro do mine.

I fell asleep last night and left my ps4 on. I went to use the ps4 this morning and my controller lit up white. The Anynet (HDMI-CEC) config automatically turns my tv on when I hit the ps button on my controller... but nothing!? That's when I noticed the white light on my console. My tv recognizes that there is something connected but theres no picture. I don't move my console very often, only for dusting once in a while. Could this still be what the video describes as an hdmi port issue.* Note- I have one of the original ps4 models from when they were released.

He looks nothing like The Rock lol
Why is it 90$ for repair don't you think that a little too much
Actually, compared to most repair shops it's a great deal. Many of them charge $150 and some of those have very little experience.
We price it at $90 because that's what we need to charge in order to stay in business. If we could price it lower we'd love to do that but at this point that's the lowest we can go for it.
If you're looking for a cheap repair you can always find an Ebay repairman.

Ok you can buy $1200 hot air station and $600 soldering station and rent an shop for about $3500 and take the risk to open ps4 cost about $400 if accidently something happen and then talk why it's expensive and also learn how to soldering
Is it possible that the components (like the capacitors, resistances) at the underside falls when you are heating up above?
