  • Please do not attempt this repair if you do not have the skill or equipment to do so. We show you how to correctly replace the HDMI port on a PS4. This job can be done in about 20 minutes if you have the experience and tools necessary.
    PS4 HDMI Port Repair Tips:
    -Be sure that you are using a good HDMI port. Many that you buy on eBay and Amazon don't line up correctly
    -If the port is not hot enough it will not fall out and the circuit traces may tear off of the motherboard...still fixable but MUCH harder to repair.
    -Don't use a heat gun...just don't.
    -Soler each of the 19 pins on to the motherboard. Make sure there is no bridged solder pads and that each pin is soldered to it's corresponding pad.

      All it takes is one knock and it's toast. So it could last the life of the unit, or one week. Bad design; the port should have been a separate module, connected to the motherboard by a ribbon cable. Sony saved a dime and this is the sad result.

      You can use a little bit of low melt solder to help the joint melt at a lower temperature

    • @the_socompsp
      @the_socompsp 3 года назад

      chances are your soldering station isnt reporting the right temp, if 900 isnt melting solder then something is wrong and most likely the air coming out if the wand ISNT actually 900, yuou should get hold of a good thermocouple and measure the actual temp.

    • @User_1795

      If you are using one of those common garbage wands. That's your problem. They lie about the temp and they suck.

    • @Tronicsfix

      Hi Mike! So it boots to the solid white light? It's always hard to know with drops or "smashes"! If it's truly and HDMI issue I'd be checking the filters and the ic chip. If you're trying to find the short then try removing the chip and see if the shorts go away. If they don't try removing other stuff until the short goes away. Keep me updated.

    When I try to look up videos on how to repair. I always see they use some solder paste from a syringe, but I can't ever seem to find a product like that. Unfortunately, all I can afford to repair these with is a hot air gun. I managed to get a Hakko FX-951 for really cheap, but otherwise I just can't afford/justify paying so much for the few repairs that I do. I still need some good solder paste though, any help? Also, I can never seem to get the previous solder to melt, it doesn't matter how long I hold that solder iron on there it seems like it takes the temperature of the sun to melt it after I've removed the port. (I had to do it in two parts, because I removed the port before realizing I didn't have the correct one and now the solder wont melt!)

    This was the most epic video I've seen about hdmi replacement. Great job Steve. I have a small question, would you recommend buying a ps4 pro or I should wait for a better version, regarding the hdmi port and heat. Again thanks steve for this video my inner geek loved it. Notice me Senpai :3

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  7 лет назад +5

      Glad you liked the video! I would probably buy the pro. It has good HDMI ports, it seems to cool relatively well and there's no way to know when Sony will be making another version. Just my opinion.

    I replaced my hdmi port a couple years ago, and worked find for about a year. However, now the picture and audio will occasionally drop out for a few seconds or less and then come back. It seems to happen more when the ps4 is just starting up, but some days it happens a lot when playing and other days it could be on for hours and not glitch out unless you touch the hdmi cable where it's plugged in. I have tried many different cables and while some are better than others, they all do it. The video and audio always seem to go out together when it happens. Do you think I need to replace the port again, or could it be a bad solder joint or bad ground? I would appreciate any insight before I replace the port again. Thank you.

    I fell asleep last night and left my ps4 on. I went to use the ps4 this morning and my controller lit up white. The Anynet (HDMI-CEC) config automatically turns my tv on when I hit the ps button on my controller... but nothing!? That's when I noticed the white light on my console. My tv recognizes that there is something connected but theres no picture. I don't move my console very often, only for dusting once in a while. Could this still be what the video describes as an hdmi port issue.* Note- I have one of the original ps4 models from when they were released.

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  7 лет назад +59

      Actually, compared to most repair shops it's a great deal. Many of them charge $150 and some of those have very little experience.
      We price it at $90 because that's what we need to charge in order to stay in business. If we could price it lower we'd love to do that but at this point that's the lowest we can go for it.
      If you're looking for a cheap repair you can always find an Ebay repairman.
