Crazy thing is, they actually made the ORIGINAL animated series in a way that you could understand without having seen it… Because, y’know, it was new! Telling instead of showing isn’t always more effective in conveying information, not only is it dull to listen to but also clunky and gives you too much info to grapple with at once. The original show is much better at conveying its themes in both a compelling, and easy to digest manner. And it doesn’t require all the dialogue to be info dumps!
OMG I DIDN'T KNOW YOU GUYS WOULD REACT TO THIS!!!! I ATE this show up, it satisfied my little girl inside, reminded me of how I used to watch the og series when I was younger. Yes the show feels a little bit rushed at times, but they had to adapt a loooong show into 8 episodes, so makes sense. I LOVED this first season, can't wait for season 2, I need it already! Hope you guys like it as much as us og fans of the cartoon!
Don’t you just love how in this world sexism isn’t real and the women just have to prove they’re better than the men and then they get to be treated equally
They did such a beutyfull job, from casting to bending an so on. Honestly this is how I picture it to be if a good live action were. I love this adoptation and can't wait for more to come
I get that the show is trying to give us an insecure “little-sister” kind of Katara to show some growth and self-confidence as her bending ability progresses… but I think the Netflix showrunners missed the point on why Katara is so iconic. In the cartoon… Katara was brave, compassionate, diplomatic, shamelessly vocal about what she believed in, and unbelievably resourceful alongside her bending abilities, rather than because of them. This was a girl who set the ATLA story into motion after vocally putting her brothers small-minded sexism in its place, and had an iceberg not been discovered, I like to believe fed-up Katara would’ve packed her bags and left home (since she’s GranGran’s granddaughter after all) and canoed her way to the NWT with to finally find a waterbending master and help end this war. Instead… all I’m seeing is the gentle, nurturing soul that Katara only chose to be from the trauma of losing her mom, and the 🥺 faces are kind of redundant. She needs a stronger presence in this series.
Yeah, yeah. I noticed that. It seems they took the softer side of Katara and decided to stick with that. Even at the end with Pakku, she didn't feel angry enough. Just kinda annoyed. The only time I felt true angry Katara actually came out was in the tunnels when she and Sokka had their big fight.
I love how they took out sokkas sexim but then made katara bland with no personality 😂 The fact that kattara can master bend after a few words from aang and cutting out her whole arc of being jealous of aangs water bending ability is crazy. She masters bending without the bulk of the training, and without anyone to actually teach her, making her feel like a weirdly infallible character. They essentially mary sue'd her, which is incredibly disappointing considering I'd argue the original Katara is one of the best, most well written female characters of all time. They butchered Azula's character. OH and why the hell doesn't aang WATER BEND?
@@jemandjemand2362 Netflix released all episodes at once and most people have already finished watching them, so... Nothing is wrong with us, we just want another season:)
They need to change the director and writers, and bring back the animation creators to write the episodes since the best episodes (1 and 6) were the ones writed by them.
idc what anyone says. this series is for me. so enjoyable that they slightly changed the story and make it enjoyable not only for people who haven’t seen this story, but also for the people who have seen this story play out. can’t wait to see where they take this story to Ozai VS Aang
"haters" um don't make a live action show and expect people to be happy if you don't use the original creators and follow their guidelines. Im still confused why aang never learned to waterbed in the entire season, even though that was the point of him leaving to the north.
@@pullimau8555 I guess you people are too young to know when USA was full of amazing child actors. being a child isn't a excuse of being a bad actor especially in this kind of important role
Been waiting on this one! You guys are my favourite react channel!! I’ve seen the whole thing, don’t listen to the hate it is a GREAT adaptation and I think you guys will love it!
They were really smart to put everything that was bad about the movie into the first couple minutes of this pilote episode and say "Look, we can make earth bending awesome, we can pronounce names, we can make Appa look good. We can show emotions. We got this."
The fact that they forgot to make Aang waterbend a single time in a season where he is supposed to learn it so next season we go earthbending is hilarious
Yes, but it was clearly an intentional choice as in this version he's dealing with his feelings of being alone, feeling like he got his masters killed, survivors guilt and it's pretty evident that these issues are holding him back from wanting to truly learn. I'm also guessing there's going to be a time skip since by the time they film and release the next book the actors will have noticeably aged. @@islamdeen2479
Don’t forget, each character has a heroes journey. Which means they need each of them needs to learn to be their best. I’m rethinking the book names, might be less about Aang and more about his teachers.
AAAAAAA i watched this w/ my dad and he enjoyed it sm, especially as someone who hasn't seen the cartoon. Excited to watch y'alls reaction! P.S. i enjoyed it just as much☺️
Long ago the Avatar fan base lived in harmony, but Everything Changed when M. Night Shamalahn Attached, only the TV Show Master of film could stop him, but when the World needed it most, it ended. Years later, the Avatar fan base discovered a new Show coming to Netflix, and although it's other shows are great, it still has a lot to learn before it can save anyone, but i believe, Netflix can save the Avatar! Edit...
I have only watched the first episode but I am happy for the most part. I had the same reactions as you guys! I plan to watch the rest when I have more free time in a couple days but it I am so stoked to see your reactions the most!
As someone who has been an ATLA fan for over a decade, here are my thoughts. Similar to the tlou adaptation, I LOVE it as an adaptation. If people want a 1:1 remake, they won't like it. But it is very promising, and while some episodes are weak, people should remember that the cartoon's first season wasn't the strongest of the seasons either haha
The 1:1 remake is such a lazy argument to excuse the actual flaws of the show. There is more problems with the show than just changes. Directing, Acting, Writing, there is plenty of valid criticisms that people have expressed. Im willing to give a season 2 a chance, but they really need to step up their game because they are lacking in a lot of places just as a show in general
you can tell the people working on this actually love the story and have respect for the characters and they pay attention to details. so glad they actually have a budget to bring bending to life
I understand the changes they did and I like most of it. They did a great job on casting for this adaptation but some of the cast needed more acting workshop. The music are good, the set is nice, the bending looks amazing. My biggest problem for this series is some of their wonky writing, it's just so "into your face" that makes some of the line delivery cringy. But all in all, I love this series, it has it's ups and downs but I enjoyed it all. I also enjoyed this reaction so much, you guys are so fun to watch, great job!
I enjoyed this so much. There are big changes ahead, some I’m not the biggest fan of, but I still love it. So much better than I ever thought we’d get. It saddens me to see so much hate. If they don’t have a second season I’ll be beyond devastated.
One thing i love about the show is the attention to detail even with the changes. Like the writers clearly know the source material and history of the show's world and i adore it
I love this! What other people are saying, i don't care. This is awesome! Can't wait for you guys to see the rest of the season. They did amazing job. I'll be watching your reactions many times. 😀👍
vfx 8-9/10, costume design 10/10, casting 8/10, makeup 7/10, child acting 5/10, Sound design 7/10, music 8/10, writing dialog 3/10, remaking scenes whether for timing, or just making creative liberties 6/10. compared to the original 6/10. As a stand alone if you don't know what they are recreating 4/10. compared to M. Night's abomination 12049437280/10 But I can see how people who are die hard and super skeptical could dislike it, I could also see how someone who is looking to like it, could enjoy it wholeheartedly. I'm kinda indifferent. but I have hope that toward the end of the season, or by season two, the kids will have found their confidence and characters, and that maybe a better writer on the team could bring the dialog up to snuff with the original, or just that of a good show in general. the dialog is what killed it for me.
I'm only basing this on seeing the first like 4 episodes, and feel I did a good job not to spoil anything or lead opinions. but the one thing I will spoil is the dialog doesn't get better, nor does the child acting in the first 3-4 episodes, and there are a couple character differences on one or two people I wholeheartedly dislike and hope their character arc comes around on me. because I can see it being one of the reasons the creators left this project. changing a fan favorite character so much is blaspheme when their cartoon version is easily replicable and loved how they are.
I think episode 5 and onward was quite good. Personally, I think these kids needed better direction with more takes to get their intonation right. With the exception of Dallas Liu, who's done an amazing job.
To honest, i wasn't too hyped to watch it on my own, but I'm going to watch it with with you guys haha The main cast looks so similar to the cartoon, they nailed in it.
I LOVE this show. It’ll surprise you in various ways coming up, so keep an open mind. Just give the show a chance! It’s really good! I’ve binge watched it twice and going on a third!🔥
i love how you guys just watch it for what it is which is an ADAPTATION of the animated one something that some people still don't get what that even means. Sure there's the flaws like the way some of them deliver their lines and some characters that could have been casted better but overall as someone who has watched the animated show 4 times now, i loved it and can't wait for Season 2.
The problem with this show is they fix problems that weren’t actually problems, like Sokka’s sexism, which they eliminate, but there’s a whole arc about him being humbled and learning he isn’t that guy. It would be one thing if he didn’t change his perspective in the original show over time, and another if his sexism received a positive response from other characters, but it is constantly challenged throughout the show and is a huge character growth arc, not only for him but for katara. He starts out as an immature boy and grows as a person as he meets incredible, capable women in the show like suki. His sexism is also a huge catalyst to the plot. They literally never would have met aang if he hadn’t made katara upset. It could have been an awesome opportunity to make sokka a role model for how he humbles himself and changes his perspective as he learns his sexist beliefs are wrong- something our hard-headed political atmosphere really needed to see. Missed opportunity there.
They removed everyone's character development. They said no to Sokka learning that women could be as strong as men, they took away Kattara's jealousy of how Aang could waterbend better than her, they minimized Zuko's trauma, and made quick work of Aang's not wanting to bear the responsibility (of being the avatar). It's not even rushing the story but downright removed character development. OH and they destroyed everything that made Azula awesome. We wanted a confident, intelligent, sociopathic fire princess. Instead, we got insecure jealous tween.
Sokkas sexism was just a little part of his character. His sexism only lasted until the kyoshi island episode and then we really hadnt seen it since then. Its just such a small arc that lasted a few episodes.
to be fair, Sokka’s storyline is effectively consolidated to Pakku, I imagine they didn’t want to do the same thing twice and they didn’t want Sokka to immediately be unlikable, especially if he was part of the main trio that we need people to care about. So it’s better to put the sexism thing into another character, and since Pakku already shares that same issue, they just used him. Through Pakku vs Katara, people can still learn to overcome the sexism.
@@islamdeen2479Azula being confident and sociopathic doesn’t mean she also wasn’t insecure and jealous. We know she was insecure and jealous about how her mother treated her differently than Zuko and how she didn’t have her love like Zuko did. And in any case, she still is in many ways confident and sociopathic, girl was smiling as she watches people burn. It’s just we also see that she is a child too, a child used and harmed by her father.
This version is written for people who don’t like to think about what they watch. It’s for the TV should turn your brain off crowd. It is not a good show for people who like to think and engage what they’re watching.
My only problems are the pacing and some of the characters. I know it’s only 8 episodes but a points it feels so rushed especially in the Omashu episodes because they were putting like 5 episodes into one. And the characters could be closer to themselves in the cartoon. Mainly katara because the way her character seems right now I couldn’t not see her being the type to get angry like she does in later episodes. And it seems like they are leaning into that route of making a character strong because they are women
Yeah Omashu was definitely the weakest for me and I feel a simple episode split would had made it flow easier. Like seeing jet perspective first and then the stumble upon his next “target” and learn his perspective and then the divide in the group based on who’s right.
I think the pacing only feels like a problem if you know they’re combining different episodes. I actually think Omashu stuff was a good and clever way to bring many storylines to one place instead of trimming one or more out. I watched with someone who didn’t know the cartoon and they didn’t have any issue with the pacing.
really? they did the omashu combination wonderfully. everything felt connected while still referencing the original characters and plot. the spirited away episode was the abomination. they took every spirit world journey even from Korra and put it in for fanservice. surprised we didnt see raava and vaatu. they put so much that it was all pointless and now the only reason they go see roku is to defeat koh who shouldnt even be a villain. its so bad. hei bai was forgotten. still debating if it made sense for katara and sokka to get sucked in
I just watched all 8 episodes and it's phenomenal! I didn't think Netflix could do that. I'm scared to die before I watch season 2, I hope they get it off soon.
@@MythicalPhoebeI doubt it, Avatar has been a really popular animated series since its first airing and it became pretty huge when it was released for streaming. Just don’t watch the show, it’s ok for other people to enjoy it and for you not to :)

i love that the tribes are represented by some native people and other nations by asians and they should. but when the old woman says the intro form the cartoon…i get goosebumps and cry every time lol i love your reactions!
People that have any major complaints about this series don’t know what it took to watch the show, then suffer through the movie just to get here. I have only MINOR nitpicks but I’m sure they’ll be adjusted in the next season. I’m only 4 episodes in and it keeps getting better. I’m absolutely blown away
I...did not like it. Borderline "hated" but not quite there. We managed to get through the 1st episode while internally cringing, then I skimmed through the 2nd, and I think I'm good. The writing and dialog was terrible and I can't enjoy anything with that. So much exposition said not shown. Katara and Suki's characters were re-written poorly taking away the entire point of most characters growth and maturing. And the plot was everywhere. There's just no good way to do a live-action adaptation of an already screaming amazing series. Some things are meant to stay animated, and it's a medium that I think gets disrespected so much like it's inferior for some reason. It's a beautiful way to show a story that just can't be done live-action.
Very disappointed with this show. the writers did the characters dirty by taking away so much of what made them interesting. now they're just blocks of one dimensional wood that constantly tells everyone how they feel and don't show it.
I've finished watching this and mostly I was crying during nostalgic events (which were a lot to be honest) and I can't wait to see your reaction to fan favorite scenes!
LOL at the Ultimate Warrior bit 😂 This show did a great job making the animation come to life. Watching it as animation vs a human being burned by fire benders its crazy different for me! So much more real obviously 😂 but it does make it hit hard. Gyatso man, RIP ❤
One thing I really like about starting with the air nomad genocide and then cutting to Katara and Sokka is that if this is your first introduction to the story, you find that it's been 100 years at the same time Aang does, and I think that carries a really different weight. At first, you're like "oh, it's the next morning in the water tribe", and then after Zuko "okay wow, it's been like 3 years that they've been looking for the avatar", and then you get whammied with "airbenders haven't been seen for generations" and "the last time anyone saw the comet was 100 years ago"
God I love you guys and your enthusiasm! I binged the whole series you guys had with the original and it was so awesome I still can't bring myself to watch the finale myself all the way through because I know it would be all over😔 But I loved watching this can't wait for episode 2!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌👌👌👌

OH and why the hell doesn't aang WATER BEND?
not me thinking you meant Noth West Territories when you said NWT and not Northern Water Tribe 🤣
Her water bending skill progressed too fast too for how little training she did. By ep 8, she's incredible but it didn't feel earned at all.
i personally thought she was more likeable in the live action 😆
The first episode hands down has me hooked, I think they did an okay job I’m excited for Season 2.

As soon as I saw Sokka I thought the actor would be the pefect Ember Island Players Sokka 😂
It's so refreshing to watch a director and producer that honors the source material instead of creating their "own vision."
idc what anyone says. this series is for me. so enjoyable that they slightly changed the story and make it enjoyable not only for people who haven’t seen this story, but also for the people who have seen this story play out. can’t wait to see where they take this story to Ozai VS Aang

You guys are amazing. Thank you for existing
This show has such a big place in my heart I know it has haters but srsly I am just SO happy to be back in this world and to see those characters
"haters" um don't make a live action show and expect people to be happy if you don't use the original creators and follow their guidelines. Im still confused why aang never learned to waterbed in the entire season, even though that was the point of him leaving to the north.

I'm actually tear up on first episode 😂
They were really smart to put everything that was bad about the movie into the first couple minutes of this pilote episode and say "Look, we can make earth bending awesome, we can pronounce names, we can make Appa look good. We can show emotions. We got this."
The fact that they forgot to make Aang waterbend a single time in a season where he is supposed to learn it so next season we go earthbending is hilarious
i don't think they forgot, it seems to me they wanted katara to master it first to teach him
@@herondaless The entire POINT of this season was to make sure Aang learned how to waterbend lol

Years later, the Avatar fan base discovered a new Show coming to Netflix, and although it's other shows are great, it still has a lot to learn before it can save anyone, but i believe, Netflix can save the Avatar! I have only watched the first episode but I am happy for the most part. I had the same reactions as you guys! I plan to watch the rest when I have more free time in a couple days but it I am so stoked to see your reactions the most!
We made it guys! All 8 episodes were very good. Yeah, the cgi is rough in some places but god. Is it stellar to watch and just feel nostalgia ❤❤❤❤
I myself didn't expect a 1:1 remake but some scenes still confused me
Some of the chapters in the animation were just fillers and kinda silly so idk why people complain about it
People are not mad with the plot, It's the acting and the script that suckk ass
The 1:1 remake is such a lazy argument to excuse the actual flaws of the show. There is more problems with the show than just changes. Directing, Acting, Writing, there is plenty of valid criticisms that people have expressed. Im willing to give a season 2 a chance, but they really need to step up their game because they are lacking in a lot of places just as a show in general

I’ve been searching for a reaction video of this live action version and OF COURSE I should’ve looked on your channel first. Awesome video guys!
Dallas Liu (Zuko actor) was chosen for his background in martial arts, and his acting skills of course.
The progression this show has, is such a blast! It just continues to get better and better! Loved it!
Really because from my perspective, it just gets worse and worse
I understand the changes they did and I like most of it. They did a great job on casting for this adaptation but some of the cast needed more acting workshop. The music are good, the set is nice, the bending looks amazing. My biggest problem for this series is some of their wonky writing, it's just so "into your face" that makes some of the line delivery cringy. But all in all, I love this series, it has it's ups and downs but I enjoyed it all. I also enjoyed this reaction so much, you guys are so fun to watch, great job!
Love the season and love your reaction! Can't wait to watch the rest with you guys!
I enjoyed this so much. There are big changes ahead, some I’m not the biggest fan of, but I still love it. So much better than I ever thought we’d get. It saddens me to see so much hate. If they don’t have a second season I’ll be beyond devastated.
Even though some changes confused me I'm still hoping for a second season
One thing i love about the show is the attention to detail even with the changes. Like the writers clearly know the source material and history of the show's world and i adore it

I really loved this live action, I'll for sure keep watching when season 2 comes ❤
The addition of Sozin starting the 100 year war was awesome and what a great choice of actor to play him.
He started it in the cartoon too. It's not like the live action made that part up.
OMG you guys teased me so hard. I was waiting to see this since thursday.
vfx 8-9/10, costume design 10/10, casting 8/10, makeup 7/10, child acting 5/10, Sound design 7/10, music 8/10, writing dialog 3/10, remaking scenes whether for timing, or just making creative liberties 6/10.
compared to the original 6/10.
As a stand alone if you don't know what they are recreating 4/10.
compared to M. Night's abomination 12049437280/10
But I can see how people who are die hard and super skeptical could dislike it, I could also see how someone who is looking to like it, could enjoy it wholeheartedly.
To honest, i wasn't too hyped to watch it on my own, but I'm going to watch it with with you guys haha
The main cast looks so similar to the cartoon, they nailed in it.
"the problem with this show" no, "my problem with this show". That's how you express your opinion.
I really enjoyed your reaction. I’m looking forward to watching more of your reaction videos to this series. 😊
This version is written for people who don’t like to think about what they watch. It’s for the TV should turn your brain off crowd.
It is not a good show for people who like to think and engage what they’re watching.
As an OG fan of the og cartoon I gotta admit it is obviously different but it’s great overall
I watched with someone who didn’t know the cartoon and they didn’t have any issue with the pacing.
really? they did the omashu combination wonderfully. everything felt connected while still referencing the original characters and plot. the spirited away episode was the abomination. they took every spirit world journey even from Korra and put it in for fanservice. surprised we didnt see raava and vaatu. they put so much that it was all pointless and now the only reason they go see roku is to defeat koh who shouldnt even be a villain. its so bad. hei bai was forgotten. still debating if it made sense for katara and sokka to get sucked in
Glad it didn't take you guys long to react to this! I totally enjoyed this adaptation 🎉

Been waiting on y'all to do this show. I haven't seen the animated one, but after finishing the live action, I'm seriously thinking about it now.
I’ve been waiting for along time for you guys to watch this ever since my cousin told us all that he was cast as Chief Arnook.
Very disappointed with this show. the writers did the characters dirty by taking away so much of what made them interesting. now they're just blocks of one dimensional wood that constantly tells everyone how they feel and don't show it.

I discovered you a few months ago and i lovvee you reactions. I started to watch airbender for watching your reaction to airbender 😂
