Pls don't miss out on Meet the Robinson, the ending song is nostalgic, the message is absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. I'm sure you guys will love it.
The whole point of the lanterns was to bring Rapunzel home/find her and celebrate her birth, and if you look closely the King and Queen’s lantern is very specific looking and none of the others look like it. Then Rapunzel keeps a lantern from falling into the water, and it’s the same lantern that her parents sent out. It did it’s job, it found Rapunzel. I think it’s a very sweet and cute touch.
That's my absolute favorite part, because we see how broken the king and queen are. Their lantern is like their hope, sinking and almost gone, but Rapunzel catches it and raises it back up. It's almost like she's telling them "I'm coming, just hang on a little longer."
I think Mother Gothel is such a good villain because she's so realistic. Take away the magical healing flower and it's a story about an abusive "parent" keeping a child isolated and dependent on her. A lot of Gothel's behaviors are textbook examples of emotional abuse and manipulation. I don't know if you guys have ever heard of Cinema Therapy here on RUclips, but they did an awesome video on Tangled that I would highly recommend.
@@VK-rl6wl Ooh, I hadn't heard that before, but it makes a lot of sense! I'm very happy to say that I've never seen a single episode of Dance Moms and I hope I never do.
I watched their video on this movie and that article about Gaslighting they linked hit home hard. i realized someone I called my best friend of several years met all 11 signs. Its incredible how healthy my life has been since parting ways with her
The gaslighting was strong with this one. One heck of an abusive relationship. I also have to agree about Cinema Therapy, they do have awesome videos that I also highly recommend.
One of the best little details for me in this movie is the difference that Mother always shows her affection to Rapunzel's hair while Eugene pushes it away from her face. I didn't realize until rewatching it a few times.
Yes, I love this detail!! And when she returns to her parents, you see her real mother just completely ignore her hair to reach for and touch her face directly. Like, imagine how genuine and intimate that would feel after 18 years of "love" only being shown indirectly through a wall of hair and to your wall of hair. 🥺 Mother Gothel only ever reached out to get to her hair. Her real mother reached out to get to *her.* 💕
Mother Gothel is such a great villain. She is simply terrifying and not because she has that secret strengths or is very powerful, but because the manipulating and gaslighting she does are so realistic and can meet us in our world too. It is so so important to recognize when something like this happens to you
This is so true. I just rewatched it a few week ago and as sad as it is I felt so many similarities to how I was treated and which I never realized as long as I was in that toxic relationship
the Brothers Grimm called her Dame Gothel in the original story. She was evil. The Broadway play and the live action movie Into The Woods calls her simply The Witch. In the play she was originally played by Bernadette Peter's and in the live action movie she was played by Meryl Streep
There's a channel called cinema therapy and they reviewed mother gothel and described how she portrays all the signs of gaslighting. Disney did such a great job with her.
"It's almost like her hair" I've watched so many reactions on this movie and watched it so many times myself i didn't know i could still see something new in it! What a profound comment! loved it
I swear, i went 🤯. Thats an amazing observation. Also the latern Rapunzel saves from falling into the water is the same as the one the King and Queen push into the air.
Something that was so simple in this movie but really broke me, was when the king and queen were behind the door, about to start the lantern lighting. And they stood back there, silent, the queen looks over at the king and he’s so worn down, so tired and heartbroken after having done this for 18 years, wishing so deeply for his daughter to be found. You really could feel the depth of his pain in that moment. It was such an understated moment that really stood out to me. Same goes for when one of the guards came to them, and one nod, one facial expression from him and they knew they’d finally found her. This movie is a wondrous thing. It’s exciting, funny, meaningful, dramatic, wholesome, and downright scary when you think about how horrible mother gothel really is. Truly one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. It was done beautifully.
@@withxoutxlife the crazy part is that, one of the most heartbreaking moments comes from characters that have less than a single line in the entire movie. that’s GOOD writing 👏🏽😭
My husband and I like to joke that when the king’s face in that scene was shown to the higher ups, they told the animators, “No…sadder.” “No…. SADDER!” 😂
It sounds stupid, but this movie was the first step in realizing something was wrong with my mom. I got to see it in theaters and while I adored it, I started having what I now know was a panic attack during the 'Mother Knows Best' song as I realized she sounded like my own mom. Years later, I no longer have contact with her and my life got so much better. Funnily enough, I'm engaged to a guy who would 100% be Eugene if he was a Disney prince lol
Actually, you aren't alone either! This movie made me realize that Mother Gothel was "so nice and pretty" like my own Bio Mother, when beyond what my eight-year-old self so thought, it was actually the truth of exactly what kind of person she was and still is. Textbook emotional abuse and narcissism to a literal tea, and I even remember my younger self 'complimenting' her after watching the movie for the first time and thinking telling her that "You remind me of Mother Gothel, Mom!" was a genuine compliment overshadowed by love and compassion, when in reality it was the coldest fact check eight-year-old me pulled before even understanding the truth and being confused as to why she reacted with anger and the ugliest frown I saw stretch across her features instead of the genuine love and care I held for her through manipulation and gaslighting. As well I have gone hard no contact with her for almost a year and things have been substantially better in every way without her around. Proud of you for being strong and surviving, and cheers from a fellow survivor who is still keepin' on! Rootin' for ya hun! p.s. Also rootin' for you and your fiancé! I wish the best for you both, well wishes from a fellow Rapunzel! 💜☀
This is far from stupid!! Movies, books, and different forms of media can be so incredibly helpful in realizations like this. The first time I watched this movie I didn't fully connect the dots but after a few watches, everything with Mother Gothel terrifies me because I see so many connections with my mother. The co-dependency, the manipulation, down to her catchphrase of "Great, now I'm the bad guy..." I'm so so sorry you can relate to that. It's awful. But having that realization is such an important moment, and it's so empowering! I'm so glad you were able to get away from that, and I'm so glad you found your Eugene!! I hope that happiness and peace continues!
@@best_mate456it’s supposed to be a joke. He said “after years of asking and asking and asking, I finally said yes” and then Rapunzel says “Eugene😑”. It’s a joke that she was the one that kept asking him instead of him asking her
There's something so funny about watching 3 grown men watch Tangled for the first time, while not expecting much. Then they're laughing throughout the entire thing and can't stop smiling haha. I love that you guys watch movies that might be out of your comfort zone and go into them with open minds. You guys do that consistently on your channel and its really appreciated 👍Can't wait for the future uploads
Lighting artists are soooooooo important in 3D animation! They create all the virtual lights within the scene, so they're in charge of the natural light like the sun as well as the dimly lit scenes like in the bar they were in. The underwater scene where her glowing hair saves them, that entire scene was made possible because of a lighting artist. It's an entire art form within itself, and it's vital to get it right so that the correct mood is set and the audience feels immersed in the scene. This can sometimes make or break a movie. I don't blame you guys for not knowing, by the way. A lot goes into these movies so it's hard to fathom if you're not already in the industry :P
Yes! I wanted to say something but you beat me to it lol I always explain things like this like a lighting artist in animation/vfx/games is "basically" doing the same things one on a real world set would do, only they're doing it in a digital, cgi space
Yeah, sometimes people forget that it takes so much time doing things post-production. And people who are often overlooked are the people in-charge with lighting, and sometimes even special sound effects.
And for the benefit of people who don't really understand the technology, I'm just going to explain that what a lighting artist is essentially doing is telling the computer WHERE the light source is, how bright it is, and what objects block or change that light, then let the computer calculate the colours and brightness of the light at a certain "distance". If you didn't do this it would be almost impossible to get things like shades, translucency, and reflections correct. An animator could manually colour the hair yellow, but they couldn't accurately predict how that will cast light on the scenery.
I love that her parents werent given any dialog but you can feel every single emotion they're feeling. I think its my favorite part of this whole movie, i get teary eyed every single time.
At the time, "gaslighting" wasn't as much of a wide known thing. It really helped a TON of people realise they were being gaslit themselves, especially by parents or authority figures. Once you see it, it's impossible to unsee! The concept existed beforehand of course, but Tangled made it real and understandable to many people. And I think it's a pretty good thing to teach your kids. Toxic relationships are not something to take lightly. The sooner you recongnize the signs, the better! Thanks so much for this great reaction (again!). Big hug to you Oak, I get wrecked everytime the parents learn their child is alive 🧡 Anyway, you guys to me are a wonderful example of non-toxic masculinity and I'm loving every one of your insights and reactions. Stay true and compassionate guys, you're a treasure!
Me. The terror I felt watching this movie the first time, seeing the uncanny resemblances between my mother and Gothel.....I don't even remember anything about the movie at the time, I was hyperventilating realizing my whole life was not what I thought. Messed me up good.
@@CloudsAndCoffins As terrible as the realization must have felt, I hope it helped you eventually break out of the abusive cycle and recover. Wishing you the best.
@@phillyphan1225 how do you misunderstand something so simple so thoroughly? Obviously the Disney movie didn’t traumatize them, the parent figure that they had did and this movie helped many understand how they were being treated by them.
To me the most amazing part of this movie was Rapunzel’s walls. All around the room you can see where she painted them all but it also tells a story of her growing up. You can see her starting off in lower areas and shelves with letters, learning the alphabet. Then it goes onto painting herself and Pascal, things she sees almost every day. Then there’s here modern phase where she is painting more abstract things and things she wants to see like the lanterns. Just a great attention to detail of what her actual progression as an artist would be.
One of my favourite Disney princess films. And I love how they chose to make Mother Gothel a terrible emotionally manipulative person rather than the usual Disney villain that has some silly reason to be the bad guy. Showing the type of villain that some people deal with in their own lives and see how Rapunzel stands up for herself and leaving a toxic environment
Yes! A lot of times, the villains (especially the older ones) in Disney are flamboyant and over the top ( not to say Gothel isn't THE drama) and their goals are power or immortality or riches, and they send out henchmen or monsters or use magic, they plot and trick and scheme. And while we can easily extrapolate lessons from that, that's usually not what we deal with in our own lives. But Gothel's main instrument to get what she wants is gaslighting and negging. "It was a joke! You're so sensitive!" "Look at yourself, you could never do that!" "Oh I was just being honest! Great, now I'm the bad guy!" Like, these are things I have heard from my own mother ( who is a good mom, but a flawed person) and it's so important for kids to clearly hear that is WRONG. That is what the villain does.
@@ginster458 Gothel is far more terrifying because of how many of her there are in this world literally doing this to people every single day. Sure Maleficent is evil and all, but Gothel scares the ever-loving crap out of me as an adult. This movie kind of marked a shift in how Disney did villains. They started becoming the more every day sort, the ones we actually have to fight.
Yes. Gothel is a great vilain, because she is a manipulative human being, rather than an all powerful sorcerer for example. Much like another vilain of the same kind: Frollo. Another great Disney vilain.
I have to say that while Gothel is awful and manipulative you can understand her position. She has a magic flower she has cared for for three hundred years then some entitled rich person gets sick and instead of using the flower properly to heal, steals the whole thing and uses it up in one go. It was a pretty selfish move on behalf of the queen too. They paint Gothel as caring for the flower as selfishly hoarding the flower and the queen destroying it as perfectly reasonable which is a strange position to take and we only accept it because Gothel is a bad person and we are told the queen is a good person.
@@jessicascoullar3737 I disagree with you. No one knew that the flower could be used through a song. Only Gothel. As far as everyone knew about the legend of the golden flower, it could only be used once. Both the queen and her unborn child were dying, and the king just wanted to seve his family in an act of desesperation. If he didn't, others would use it. If Gothel wasn't so selfish, she could have told people that they could just use a song to make the flower work. She would have saved the queen and kept the flower
One little bonus bit of trivia I recall about the movie: Zachary Levi, the actor for Flynn, credits the reason he aimed for this role to him being a fan of the video game series Kingdom Hearts. He wanted to try to get a role in a Disney movie specifically in case if that movie ever became a part of a future Kingdom Hearts game (as those games involve the main characters visiting different Disney worlds and interacting with the characters from those movies), in which case he could potentially get to hear his voice in a game series that he loved. Tangled was included in Kingdom Hearts III in 2019 and he indeed got to reprise his role as Flynn in the game :)
He and Mandy Moore also reprised both of their roles in the Tangled animated series, Tangled the Series (later renamed to Rapunzel's tangled adventure)
Ooooo I wasn’t expecting this one! So happy! I was dragged along with my younger sister to see this in theatres when it came out, completely didn’t want to go, and ended up leaving in tears and with a new favourite Disney movie ❤
I watched this while on vacation in 2020 with my family for the first time and was pleasantly surprised and found a disney princess that I actually liked, and Maximus is absolutely hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing every time he came on screen! He's the MVP of the movie by far in my opinion!
What I love is that when Mother Gothel touches Rapunzel with affection, she only ever touches her hair. She pets her head and strokes the strands and even caresses her face with it. When she grabs Rapunzels shoulders or arms, it's to subdue her, shake her, when she caresses her face or hugs her, it's to manipulate her. She calls her "Flower" or "Petal" and only by her name to scold. And then comes the boat scene, where Eugene brushes her hair out of her face, so he can freely look at her. The only times he ever touches her hair is to help her carry it or to cut her free.
The official 'Tangled Junior Novel' (issued by Disney Press) specifically recounts how Mother Gothel learned the "Healing Incantation": One day, an old woman named Mother Gothel was singing softly to herself during one of her walks along a craggy hillside. She looked down and discovered the Golden Flower. Just as she was about to pluck the flower from the ground, she noticed that it was glowing. As she kept singing, Mother Gothel's brittle voice become strong and clear. Her old bones didn't seem to ache any more. She looked at her shrivelled hand and saw that all her wrinkles were gone. suddenly, she was young again, and her eyes widened with selfish delight! Right then and there, Mother Gothel decided to leave the flower where it was, so that she could continue to use its power. It was a secret she kept all to herself. For centuries, she lived contentedly, singing to the flower each day, making it glow with the magic that kept her young and beautiful. And because of her covetous protection of the flower, no one else benefited from the blossom's healing gifts. So technically it wasn't "she knew what to sing" it's more of a "sing to the flower long enough to get healed"
I’ve always wondered how the people in the kingdom knew to look for it when the Queen was sick if Mother Gothel kept it a secret. How did they know it existed?
@@lauradawson7964 It may have been a rumor or a legend. Someone might have once seen a glowing flower, or the event where the sun drop fell and guessed from that. After all, its a world of magic. So they took that 1 in a million chance to find a magic flower.
The funny thing is, if she had told people they only had to sing to it, if she had made it a potted plant, or been a little less selfish, she could have kept the flower AND healed the queen. They dug it up because they didn't know they only had to sing to it.
@@lauradawson7964 Even though Mother Gothel had hidden the flower, other people knew of its existence, suggesting that this flower was not the first of its kind. The golden flower has been considered to be the most powerful object in "the Seven Kingdoms" according to Corona's history. In the years after the flower was picked, the spot where the flower grows became a sacred and forbidden site, with a small pedestal in its place and large, indestructible thorn-like rocks surrounding it. According to the research of Lord Demanitus, the cosmic event that created the Sundrop also created a single drop of moonlight, which took the form of an opal. From this opal were the black rocks created.
The one thing I love about this film is that it starts with Eugene as the narrator, telling the audience that the story was about how he died and we DID see his demise, it all cicles around
With regard to how evil and toxic the fake mom was in this, Cinema Therapy did a great episode about this movie and how it portrays gaslighting. It's definitely worth a watch!
Having a daughter, got me watching princess movies and this is my favorite of them all. It's done really well and appeals to adults as well as children and boys as well as girls. Very well done.
I loved this movie as well - one of the things I really appreciate in "Tangled" is that Flynn (Eugene) is allowed to be a character in his own right with his own need to grow and an equal part in the story, rather than simply a love interest for Rapunzel. For me, that, along with them both being willing to sacrifice for the other, does a beautiful job of showing that in a healthy relationship both people have important and equal parts to play. It's a tough balance to pull off, but to me "Tangled" did a brilliant job of making their two stories come together in a natural way while not prioritizing one character over the other.
This movie has 2 of the best animal companions ever created (even better that they don't talk) and I love that it got back to giving us a true _villain_ in Mother Gothel. There is no backstory that makes her understandable or sympathetic; she controlling, manipulative, and emotionally abusive. No redemption arc for her, she is a true Bad Guy.
Whoooa. I never considered that the lanterns were lit up like Rapunzel's hair. Amazing catch. Tangled is pretty much hands down my favourite animated movie ever. The writing and animation just hits differently and Rapunzel and Eugene are 100/10 best disney couple (and the Tangled Series is also a fun watch with some great storytelling that even explains the Sundrop Flower a bit more).
Completely Agree. I actually love The Tangled Series, much better than the movie, as all the characters are fleshed out and we get a lot of questions answered about Gothel's and the Sundrop magic.
I heard for the lyrics “Mother Knows Best” they asked the female employees what was the worst thing their mothers told them and whatever they said made it’s way into the song. Also they had “hot guy meetings” where the asked the female employees what makes a guy attractive, I think mainly physically stuff. So they brought in pictures of actors like Johnny Depp and others for inspiration. Then Flynn was born. Lol
I want to thank you guys so much for reacting to movies like this. It's so easy for people to dismiss movies like Tangled or Frozen or Moana as being "for girls" or "just kids movies" but seeing you guys watching and enjoying this is definitely helping to dismiss some stereotypes. Just because a movie has a strong central female character it doesn't mean only girls can like it - the message is for everyone!
It's funny that Quinn mentions it's something that you can watch with your neice or daughter because I watched this with my neice when I used to babysit her. No joke, watched it at least three times a day and I loved every minute of each of those rewatches.
I have so many memories of seeing this movie. It was wonderful in 3D, a favorite of my mother when I treated her to see it, and it benefitted greatly by having a three-dimensional leading male character that was genuinely entertaining. Your reactions to it is music.
PS, Mom passed in 2021 but after seeing this movie with her, I bought her a Pascal (Pasqual) Christmas tree ornament that was one of the few things I retained after selling, giving away or trashing all my things when the family sold the house. It will always be my most prized ornament as she truly loved Tangled. And it was an inspiration to give Maximus the traits of a dog. if Disney rereleases this movie in 3D again, I highly recommend giving it a look. The lantern scene is almost hypnotic.
I love how invested Oak was in this movie! If you want more Tangled content, there is a short called Tangled Ever After which is hilarious and there is a tv movie and show that are also really good.
Every time I think Badd Medicine's watched a movie I don't think they'd ever do, they surprise me, in a good way. Eugene/Flynn Ryder is the narrator and he doesn't know Mother Gothel's origin story. That is how I interpret her knowing the song. It isn't that she shouldn't know, but that we never learn how she knows because Eugene/Flynn never learned the reason.
That nod from the guard is one of my favorite, most underrated scenes from the movie! It's incredible how they were able to animate so much emotion into just one expression and nod. You look at him and just *know* exactly what he's saying without a single word. It's soo good!
This movie holds a special place for my daughter and I when she was 8. My wife(her Mom) had just died 4 months prior and this movie was something that brought her and I closer together to escape our depression and loss. It made us forget the world for two hours. Maximilian stole the show
The Pyschological manipulation & gaslighting of a narcissist study of Mother Gothel’s character & dialogue/relationship with Rapunzel is so spot on & really well Done.
I remember going with a few friends to see this and towards the end we were looking at each other like "am I...gonna cry right now? Am I crying at this?" I think it's been my favourite animated disney movie since. Love it.
Lighting is such an important job in animation! Once the characters and scenes are created, there are no real shadows or highlights to speak of, and can read very flat. It's the lighting department's job to bring to life all these scenes (warmth, glows, shadows, highlights, day, night etc.) it's a special skill and can really make or break how good you feel the animation is that you're watching.
If my daughters hadn’t been so young when this movie hit the theaters, I might not have ever seen it. But I admit that I laughed my butt off watching this the first time. I love the horse. He clearly thinks he’s a bloodhound or something. The running gag about Flynn’s nose on all the wanted posters was funny too.
The extreme gaslighting that was happening and psychological abuse is intense. Every time Gothel talked kind to Rapunzel it was actually to her hair. One thing though, is the aspect of getting old and hanging on by threads and being hundreds of years old it would be interesting to see Gothels life in the beginning in her natural youth. Have you guys seen Mulan? That would be an amazing reaction as well. A great og movie with Eddie Murphy - can’t go wrong with that.
About the singing a song to get the healing power: In the movie, it’s just kind of hand waved away as Gothel being old enough to know what to sing. In the tv series - which is great and I highly recommend - it’s expanded upon. Details are kind of vague bc it’s been a few years, but I remember there being 3 songs total that have magical powers. The Healing Incantation, the Hope Incantation, and the Decay/Reverse Incantation.
There was something of a sacred order that researched the Sundrop Flower and another stone with similar powers, the Moonstone Opal. They discovered the songs and wrote them down. I can’t remember if it was just hinted or stated that Gothel was either a part of this group or if she found the scrolls with the songs written on them. Either way, she searched out for the Sundrop Flower and did what she could for hundreds of years to keep it from everyone else.
She is heavily implied to be the third follower of Zhan Tiri, and before that pupil of Demanitus, both of them studied sundrop and moonstone. And she is hinted to be over 1000 years old (Yes I did look at the wiki)
I absolutely LOVE tangled. As a mother to a 7 year old, I can confirm that anytime my daughter asks to watch tangled I never dispute, matter of fact it’s usually me asking her to watch it lol. Great chemistry with Rapunzel and Flynn and max and pascal are just perfect as well. Absolutely a favorite Disney film ❤
High 5 🤚🤚🤚 to all of you for appreciating a great story no matter the form it's presented in. I love how much you enjoyed it! Thanks for a great reaction. *And kudos to The Oak for his indepth analysis... nice to know others see it as more than just a Disney show! His little boy is lucky to have him for a dad🥰!
The plot hole about how Mother Gothel knew about singing to the flower was explained in the Tangled-series that came out a few years ago. She was the apprentice og an evil demon who was researching ancient magical powers that fell from the sky, including the Sun Drop that became the magical flower.
My favourite fact: when Mother Gothel is affectionate towards Rapunzel, she's actually affectionate towards the hair - for example, she kisses her hair, not her forehead. Flynn on the other hand, brushes her hair away from her face so he can see HER, not her gift.
I've seen Rapunzel so many times but today was the first time I realized that having her tears save Eugene was taken from the original story where the prince is blinded and after years of wondering the wilderness Rapunzel and the prince find each other and her tears heal his eyes.
Loved the reaction, as always. I can't help but recommend Inside Out. It's right there with Up as one of the best, if not the best, concepts from Pixar.
06:50 Best animated horse EVER💕You actually nailed it Quinn! If you ever spend any length of time around horses you can easily see how they have very canine-like tendencies! They play similarly (look up the video 'Horse Cruz playing with ball' or just plain ole 'horse playing with ball'), they are very emotional and loving, loyal & protective and are very keen to a persons emotional state and making sure you're ok. Some indigenous nations called them 'Big Dogs' as their original language didn't have a word for them, Man's Best Friend. From the chuckling preceding this epiphany, the tone has been set! GREAT reaction guys, super fun to watch!!!
This has remained one of my favorite Disney movies since I first watched it. So many great lessons in this. It also pretty much had everything you could possibly want in a movie - the humor, action, really deep moments… and Gothel pretty much is the best/worst villain ever because how she acts towards Rapunzel is so realistic even now - which is pretty scary.
I grew up with this film, so I don't view it as something I can objectively criticize, but you guys truly made me feel like I'm watching it for the first time and falling in love with it all over again, even though I know this film by heart already... so THANK YOU for that! 💛 Also, Tangled: The Series (3 seasons) is just as outstanding as this. All the songs are of a Broadway level quality, all of the cast returned for another project and visuals are just beautiful (once you get used to it, since it's quite different from the film). It's really worth it. It's definitely not only for kids (I watched it as an adult, no regrets).
This was always one of my favorites but here's a few facts about the movie if you three are interested! 1) Flynn Rider was created by getting a ton of the female employees at disney together at what was later called the "handsome men" meeting. He is what they all considered to be the hottest guy basically. 2) Rapunzel actually catches her parents lantern they lit at the start of the festival while she and Flynn were on the lake 3) Flynn gave his position away when stealing the crown on purpose so that he could create a distraction and later get away from the stabbington brothers with the crown and keep it to himself. More profit when you don't have to split it 3 ways right? As an extra: How the mother got the song for the flower is actually described in the tv series! Tangled: The Series is also pretty good at filling in back stories and other things and is pretty interesting as well when you learn more about the world and how everything came to be. Many adults even watch it!
Mandy Moore’s voice in the duet with Zach Levi is absolutely spectacular! One of the sweetest voices ever. The comedy in this movie is OUTSTANDING! ALL the bad guys singing ‘I have a Dream’ is brilliant! 'Vladimir collects ceramic unicorns' slays me every time. I’ a 67 year old Biker and I love this movie.
There is ONLY one score Tangled can get and it's top marks all around! Perfect scores for a perfect movie. Julie Andrews voice *Practically perfect in everyway*
If y'all are interested in more Pascal and Maximus, there is this 6 min. mini film about Eugene and Rapunzel's wedding called "Tangled Ever After", it's short and you guys can enjoy it in your own time, some great Pascal and Maximus and it just gives you a little picture to what their wedding was like. Great reactions guys, really enjoyed it. This is my favorite disney movie and I have so many fond memories of my dad playing this for me, your reactions did it justice :)
Always always appreciate and point out the role of her father the king. He didn't have much screen time but I always love to see fathers intense love for their children, it is unfortunately not shown enough that there are fathers out there with a fiercely strong love and bond with their children that is just as strong as a mothers. This man was so distraught about losing his baby girl and not being able to find her for 18 years, and it was killing him. So emotional, so beautiful. 💖💙💜
I really love this movie. I love the message of it. And honestly guys, i enjoy watching your reactions cuz who can deny it. Seeing 3 grown men, laughing hard while watching a disney princess. I'm glad you reacted to this one.
The King crying gets me every time! I had such a great relationship with my dad (who’s no longer with us) and it reminded me of him and seeing how much he loved his daughter. This movie is such Gold in so many ways! Btw, the song is explained in the tv series spoilers… It’s an incantation from an ancient book (as far as I can remember…) or written on the walls of ruins somewhere… there is a lot of lore around the sundrop(flower) and the moon stone… too much to go into but yeah… there is also a reverse song that decays everything…
This actually got a series that explains a lot of questions like the lore of the flower.. as well as explores new characters that connects to the story that adds more depth to these characters.. it's a great series
I adore Tangled (and its Television series). I think what makes Tangled stand out is the extra work put into the story for everyone. While Disney knew their Princess movies were a guaranteed hit with little girls, little boys weren't interested at all. So a new angle to the Rapunzel story was created, not only with extra action and comedy but an incredible three-dimensional male lead with Eugene. Instead of a bland prince (just there for the romance) Eugene was a living breathing character and essential part of the story. The new Disney films should pay attention to this storytelling. Rapunzel and Eugene worked great together, their action scenes were as fun as their romantic ones giving them both equal time to shine and in the end they both got to save each other. Every character in the film brought something to the story that all had great chemistry (with good messages for girls and boys how to be good people). Even the villain, Mother Gothel, while called a witch, didn't cast any magic spells but used deception, manipulation and gas-lighting to achieve her evil ends. That's a very adult take on a villain. Tangled is a family film that appeals not only to little kids but adults as well as your joy and laughter watching the film proved.
2010 and the animation is clean and still watchable even today..this was a hit during its release...maximus is the mvp with this one and so is pascal...also the expression of maximus is so funny...🤣🤣
Great reaction guys. This movie is such a credit to the animators; it's almost criminal they don't have their own Oscar category. Maximus and Pascal is ALL drawing - outstanding.
Pls don't miss out on Meet the Robinson, the ending song is nostalgic, the message is absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. I'm sure you guys will love it!!!
This movie opened the world of gaslighting to me. I couldn't even enjoy it the first time, I was too shocked watching a villain identical to my own mother on screen. It changed my life and I became so much more aware of the mental abuse I didn't realize I was going through.
I grew up under strict control of narcissistic relative and I find this movie incredibly important for children and even teenagers everywhere. It perfectly portrays how these abusers are. Extremely controlling, always damaging your self esteem and conditioning you into, what's called, learned helplessness so you'd always be too scared to leave. They can lie and manipulate for years without slipping even once. Telling you that they love you in one sentence and criticizing everything about you in another. They love the idea of owning you like an object but they don't really care about you. When this movie came out, I was already young adult and figured it al out. Several years later I cut that person off entirely.
My all time favorite Disney movie ♡ I was so sad when it didn't receive the love it deserved when it came out but at least more people are watching it now!
Seeing the King and Queen's expressions and subtle motions make me tear up, every time. You could really feel how much they loved their miracle daughter, each other, and how much it hurt them to be separated.
I saw this first time in theaters when I was a 10 year old little girl - I have never been more in love with a movie. It’s still a timeless favorite, of course. And I love watching you guys react to movies like these!
35:15 Welp! I made the mistake of looking at The Oak in this moment and I saw the split second it really hit him emotionally. The reunion scenes are done so well with no dialogue - I feel like it increases the impact on audiences because everyone can relate to the body language, and every loving parent would get hit hard by the story.
I’ve rewatched tangled at least 10 times: it’s always enjoyable, and I tear up literally every single time 🙈it was a treat to watch you guys react to it! happy you had fun! and the heartfelt thoughts at the ends were super sweet
Tangled is probably my favorite of the 3D animated Disney movies, it really nailed the balance between serious and funny elements. Also, just a little insight to share about your confusion on all the people listed under “Lighting” in the credits: creating 3D lighting is actually a career on its own in animation and game fields. It’s a lot more technically involved to create virtual lighting that looks good and communicates the setting and effects that you’re aiming for. This is generally applicable in every scene (lighting the character models and their environment in a way that passively and convincingly tells the audience when it’s daytime, nighttime, or continuing to show that they’re beside a fire, they’re under interior lighting instead of the sun, light is pooling out from light sources around them in the same way real world lights would, etc.). Also with all of the lanterns especially being such a huge highlight of this movie, getting that scene to be as pretty as it was, you can really see why it took so many talents to execute the lighting alone :)
Definitely my favorite Disney Princess movie and Disney Princess. I remember going to see this in theaters the day it came out. And that I wanted my dirty blonde hair to be just as long as Rapunzel‘s hair (never happened tho. 😂) Gotta love Pascal and Maximus they’re hilarious and true friends. Mother Gothel made me so so so extremely mad as a kid and scared the crap out of me and she still does piss me off but just doesn’t scare me anymore. Didn’t even know Zachary Levi voiced Flynn Ryder until the first Shazam movie cast was announced. Everyone who made this movie possible is amazingly talented and did an amazing job. Definitely an A++ movie for me.
The movie Onward might of had the thematic elements of D&D but Tangled actually has way more of the feeling of what it's like to actually play D&D. Like that whole scene in the mining area is absolutely something I would throw at my players. Plus the main character has parental issues and that is the cornerstone for most player character backstories lol Flynn is absolutely a Rogue Rapunzel is a Sorcerer/Cleric multi-class Gothel is a Warlock

I was in my mid-30s when this came out and in a very dark place in my life. This film really helped. Couldn't not smile when watching it, some great songs and a great story about focusing on dreams no matter what. I read that the most difficult part was animating her hair, especially in the wet scenes. This is 2D and to make that work so well was really something.
I'd say this is a 4th place for my animated movies. First being "Spirit", second being "Balto" and 3rd being the "How to train your dragon" trilogy. Maybe you could react to those two as well? I really love them all.
I didn't see this addressed anywhere else, so I thought I would mention it. Donna Murphy and Zachary Levi are both Broadway stars, so it makes perfect sense that they have the pipes for their roles. Donna has been nominated 5 times for a Tony Award and has won twice for Best Actress in a Musical for Passion and The King and I. She has also been nominated for countless other awards. Zachary has been nominated for the Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for She Loves Me, and for several other awards. As for Tangled, I count it as one of my favourite Disney movies. I will never understand how people say Frozen is better than it. It holds up under multiple rewatches, has fantastic music, fantastic storytelling, and the scene with the lanterns might just be the prettiest thing I've ever seen. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it!
I highly recommend watching Tangled Ever After which is a short about Rapunzel and Eugene's wedding (but it mainly features Pascal and Maximus). Also something that I have to point out every time I watch Tangled is that whenever Mother Gothel gives Rapunzel any love and attention she always tilts her head and kisses her hair, whereas Eugene moves her hair out of her face to focus on her. ❤️
I watch this so many times i could quote it start to finish of the top of my head. I use whisper it every night to myself to help me sleep. Love this movie so much. Gothel to this day is the only disney villian to ever give me nightmares
I'm glad y'all enjoyed the movie. There's also a Tangled TV show that's really good and explains a lot about Eugene's backstory, the origin of the golden flower, and the purpose of Rapunzel's power.
Watching the three of you guys watch this movie was such a delight. I love that you allowed yourself to just enjoy this and actually get invested in it, no matter if it was “just a Disney movie.” Keep up the good work, guys!
i think what makes mother gothel such a great villain in this movie is that that kind of character is a relatable one for a sadly large audience. as someone who grew up in a household (somewhat) like rupunzel's tower, mother gothel is a character that (a bit too closely) resembles real life. she's not outlandish or extreme, she's attainable. that kind of emotional abuse happens all too often in thousands of households and i think that's what makes her character so villainous. you know someone like that exists in real life, and it makes it that much more maddening.
This was a lot of fun and the animation still holds up today. Where does this rank on your animated films list? What did we miss?

Tangled is really not one of my faves tbh 🙈 My Top 3 will probably always be "Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron", "Brother Bear" and "Anastasia" 💪💚
Please react to Coco next. You will love it.
You could also see it as her "saving her parents' light" if you wanted to
That's my absolute favorite part, because we see how broken the king and queen are. Their lantern is like their hope, sinking and almost gone, but Rapunzel catches it and raises it back up. It's almost like she's telling them "I'm coming, just hang on a little longer."
Aww I never noticed that! Makes it that much more special ♥
@@MyFireElf Never noticed that... Now I'm a mess.

Wow, good point!
Absolute most hilarious moment was when you see three grown men became legit enraged at Gothel kicking Pascal across a room.
"Haha good job lil buddy*gets kicked* AYYE WOAH AYYE 😡" 🤣🤣🤣
I know! You could see how mad they were! Like...... "Hey lady, that's not right!"
"It's almost like her hair"
I've watched so many reactions on this movie and watched it so many times myself i didn't know i could still see something new in it! What a profound comment! loved it
I swear, i went 🤯. Thats an amazing observation.
Also the latern Rapunzel saves from falling into the water is the same as the one the King and Queen push into the air.
I've never put that together 😮
right! i loved that observation, i never noticed it
Something that was so simple in this movie but really broke me, was when the king and queen were behind the door, about to start the lantern lighting.
That moment really stood out to me too. I cried the first time I saw it.
@@withxoutxlife the crazy part is that, one of the most heartbreaking moments comes from characters that have less than a single line in the entire movie. that’s GOOD writing 👏🏽😭

It isnt stupid, i hope you feel much better now
Actually, you aren't alone either!
that's not stupid at all, i'm so happy that you realized that something was wrong and got away. good for you! :)

Literally exactly what I was thinking through this entire video 😭
Yes! I wanted to say something but you beat me to it lol
I always explain things like this like a lighting artist in animation/vfx/games is "basically" doing the same things one on a real world set would do, only they're doing it in a digital, cgi space
Yep!
Thanks for explaining that!! I didn't know that either but that's super fascinating, thank you for sharing!
I love that her parents werent given any dialog but you can feel every single emotion they're feeling. I think its my favorite part of this whole movie, i get teary eyed every single time.
Like when the queen wipes the kings tear away. It's show don't tell and Disney is amazing at that..
Big hug to you Oak, I get wrecked everytime the parents learn their child is alive 🧡

Just a great attention to detail of what her actual progression as an artist would be.
whoa...
That's pretty cool. Thanks for the trivia ☺
Oh, that's great, this is some good trivia
Omg didn't know that. Cool!
that was his dream. Now he has to look for another one

The official 'Tangled Junior Novel' (issued by Disney Press) specifically recounts how Mother Gothel learned the "Healing Incantation":
One day, an old woman named Mother Gothel was singing softly to herself during one of her walks along a craggy hillside.

Absolutely! Tangled is definitely one of Disney's best, and one my all time favourites.

@@bighuge1060 So sorry for your loss. May your happiest memories of your mother lighten your darkest hours. Hugs from Canada 💓
The lantern scene in 3D was so cool!
@@denisesf5 Thank you for those words. It's deeply appreciated.
@@candidwings5609 It was. Hypnotic in 3D.
I love how invested Oak was in this movie! If you want more Tangled content, there is a short called Tangled Ever After which is hilarious and there is a tv movie and show that are also really good.
Tangled Ever After is particularly good for fans of Maximus and Pascal. 🤣
The tv show is also where those others actors they were looking for are =)
The couple also have a cameo in “Frozen” as guests at the coronation.
I can’t help but enjoy watching 3 grown man laugh their ass off watching a horse. Love you guys😂
33:07 their transition from happiness to anger bc of pascal is so funny yet cute 😭
Love it.
13 years later, and that reunion with the parents STILL gets me!
And she is hinted to be over 1000 years old
(Yes I did look at the wiki)
@@haasa2293 Thank you! completely forgot these details.
Yesssss ! This is gonna be hilarious !!! 😂 I’m betting you loved the bar scene haha 😂 always make me laugh 😊
Flynn and max is the best disney duo to ever exist i will forever love them lol
Loved the reaction, as always. I can't help but recommend Inside Out. It's right there with Up as one of the best, if not the best, concepts from Pixar.

@@BaddMedicine you guys should react to Tangled Ever After it is 6 min 30 second short about the Wedding
The horse was definitely the highlight of this movie 😭he was so hilarious
I grew up with this film, so I don't view it as something I can objectively criticize, but you guys truly made me feel like I'm watching it for the first time and falling in love with it all over again, even though I know this film by heart already... so THANK YOU for that! 💛
Also, Tangled: The Series (3 seasons) is just as outstanding as this.
2) Rapunzel actually catches her parents lantern they lit at the start of the festival while she and Flynn were on the lake
3) Flynn gave his position away when stealing the crown on purpose so that he could create a distraction and later get away from the stabbington brothers with the crown and keep it to himself.
Oh wow I never thought about that third point! I've seen this movie a million times, and you just BLEW my mind!
Maximus, Pascal and the frying pan carry the entire film on their shoulders and handle 😂
There is ONLY one score Tangled can get and it's top marks all around! Perfect scores for a perfect movie. Julie Andrews voice *Practically perfect in everyway*
I always end up bawling my eyes out when Rapunzel reunites with her parents. Love this movie ♥️
Donna Murphy is an outstanding Broadway actor. She is known for her amazing voice.
The King crying gets me every time! I had such a great relationship with my dad (who’s no longer with us) and it reminded me of him and seeing how much he loved his daughter.
This movie is such Gold in so many ways!
Btw, the song is explained in the tv series spoilers…
It’s an incantation from an ancient book (as far as I can remember…) or written on the walls of ruins somewhere… there is a lot of lore around the sundrop(flower) and the moon stone… too much to go into but yeah… there is also a reverse song that decays everything…
Fun fact: the lantern that the King and Queen lit (with the sun design on it at 26:22) was the same one that Rapunzel touched at 27:16 !
Something about 3 big men laughing at tangled is just so heartwarming lol
Seeing you guys enjoy these movies and crack up over scenes (for example with Maximus) is always amazing.
Plus the main character has parental issues and that is the cornerstone for most player character backstories lol
Flynn is absolutely a Rogue
Rapunzel is a Sorcerer/Cleric multi-class
Gothel is a Warlock

I was in my mid-30s when this came out and in a very dark place in my life. This film really helped. Couldn't not smile when watching it, some great songs and a great story about focusing on dreams no matter what.
I read that the most difficult part was animating her hair, especially in the wet scenes. This is 2D and to make that work so well was really something.

Mother Gothel's songs are among my favorite for "villains".
I love how the healing tear is taken out of the original, where the Prince has been blinded and Rapunzel brought back his sight with her tears.
