There's some TERRIBLE fucking people commenting on the fire nation girls instagrams and socials, fat shaming and shit. That stuff needs to be called out.
Probably not. They took whole character arts away from sokka and aang. They're taking away entire reasons for certain stories so they'll probably not be there. Like Suki humbling sokka and changing his sexism to eventually becoming a leader in season 3. That's not going to happen. Hell aang is already devoted to becoming the avatar when the whole reason the show started was because he was running away from his responsibilities and he was wanting to go on adventures stuff. Nope that's not part of his character anymore. It looks amazing but it's a dumpster story otherwise
42:45 I’m glad you brought this up because I have been SAYING THIS… it’s exactly how I feel and everyone on tiktok is bashing the poor girl. A literal promotion video they were on on tiktok had to mute there comments because people wouldn’t shut up
Zuko and Iroh are clearly the showrunners' favorites. The minor changes they did are great and so in line with their characters. Aang, Katara and Sokka on the other hand... All three are watered down versions. Aang lacks whimsy, wanting to goof around and he's all duty bound. Katara doesn't have her rage and passion---being the nagging yet loving mother of the group. Sokka gets all his development thrown out. The sexism element is a big deal as it is, but they also didn't really show him doing engineering machines, devising plans or strategies. They mentioned it once in the Omashu episode and didn't do anything with it. "Show, don't tell" not found.
girl give us part 2 im beggingggg!! I was so happy that someone actually enjoyed the adaptation (cause everyone seems to just shit on it) and your reactions are amazing so i neeedddd part 2 😭😭
My feelings of concern started as soon as we saw the Southern Air Temple in episode 1. Watching the reveal that Aang's people are all dead in the original shocked me as a kid. I feel like by showing it right off the bat takes away the mystery, and later on tragedy, of the situation. This raised the stakes big time, it showed the Fire Nation wasn't screwing around.
I think the violence also makes the live action not really appropriate for kids. It was hard enough for me to watch it as an adult, that would’ve been traumatizing as a kid.
personally i thought the acting and the visuals were really good, but the writing was very subpar and ended up trimming a good chunk of the meat off of all the characters and what made them (and the show) so lovable in the first place. it felt like throughout the season they were so focused on trying to convince the audience that a live action remake has potential and not enough time focusing on actually making it charming and worth falling in love with in the way that the animated version did. in other words, it was a lot of assuring the audience “don’t worry, we have muscles we can flex” and not enough of actually flexing those muscles. i completely understand why the original creators decided to depart from this remake, but i also want to just say that aang’s acting in particular was incredible. there were multiple times throughout watching where even though the writing had me feeling some type of way, i had to stop and just go “damn what good acting though”
As a hardcore avatar stan. The first movie was a shit show, Netflix was..better but it still could never compare. They’re missing something with this but I can’t figure out exactly what. It’s just missing something
Well, they removed sokkas character growth, katarra (from the 4 episodes i've watched) is kinda just there.. and Aang actor and writing is kinda meh 😅😅 does any of these ring true for you?
IMO you have to remember it's an adaptation not a recreation, a lot of things don't translate as well for live action Netflix which is why changes are made and I think they did a good job at that and it's an enjoyable watch.
it's the acting for me.... Idk they're amazing and they're still growing but the acting is meh... also, Kataras character should be "motherly" "stern" etc. the Netflix somehow erased that part of Katara who feisty for her loved ones. She's too soft for me. Sokka was horrible and not funny.
@@kuiviayea that’s probably it lol, that and I feel like they don’t have the same character dynamics. Like they’re kids, where’s the goofy unseriousness we love???

Aang going out for a midnight fly instead of full on running away from his responsibilities in fear completely crumbled the starting point for Aang's character and I don't know why they chose to do that 😭

I can't wait to see you tackle the rest of this season!
@@ammonite0257live action will never live up to animation. You have to view it differently with a sense of nostalgia to enjoy or properly. Constantly comparing it to the original will get you nowhere
@@shisurvives2635 if it will never live up to the animation, then why even make it? Seriously. And some of y’all are giving it too much lee way for what is an adaption of an already proven story
Refreshing commentary yes, but still... The scenario was often badly written, acting wasn't always the best, far from it for some... I mean, I wanted to believe it would be so good but we shouldn't kid ourselves, it just wasn't.
It's always fascinating to watch your reaction. You pull the pop card reference every time that always got me. Queen, make sure to continue the last 4 episodes as well.
I feel like the most saddest part in the original and also the live action show but specifically the original is that Angs family and civilization gets wiped out and then he gets frozen in time as a child to only wake up a hundred years later with that closure of be able to help his people , waking up a hundreds later to complet strangers and learning how to navigate this new world without any guidance as a 100 year old kid is rlly sad .
He probably felt a bit of amnesia too like when you’re not sure what day it is. But it didn’t matter, he just wanted to penguin sled since he’s happy go lucky. I would have been pissinggggggg
I haven't watched the show yet, but I do feel like people should cut Elizabeth (Azula's actor) some slack. She has some EXTREMELY BIG shoes to fill, they all do. Azula is literally psychotic, and living up to not only the original voice actor's portrayal, but also the animation where they contort the face and body in ways that are unnatural, is very hard. Let's not forget her final fight scene.👀
i honestly feel like she couldve done a pretty decent job if they just gave her better lines and direction. i think that for all of them, tbh. the actors themselves arent that bad, the writing and directing is just god awful.
@@bumbabees I agree 100%. I saw Kiiawento (not sure if I spelled that right) in Anne with an E and she was phenomenal. She has a lot of emotional depth and a wide range to her acting skills, it makes me sad that she isn't able to showcase that in this show.
@@littlesongbird1376 ive heard a lot of people say that. its such a shame. i can see from the few arguments she has with sokka, she CAN emulate that iconic katara rage and emotion. if only theyd let her :/
It's SOOOO nice to see someone else enjoying this show - whatever technical gripes I have and maybe not all 100% perfect choices and some younger actors with smaller careers - I do really love the care that obviously went into it and I do hope people do try to appreciate the level they had to reach to even do this well! Edit: ommgggg I NEEED the reaction to the next FOUUURRRR episodes!!
The Fire Nation is the best part about season one. Ozai playing on Azula’s insecurities so we get why she’s so obsessed in season 2 (instead of coming from nowhere), and Zuko & Iroh’s story. I love what the actor did with Zhao. I like the way they handled Sokka, he, Iroh & Zuko are the most accurate. I like that Bumi was mad that his friend, The Avatar, was gone when the world needed him so he held a grudge (like anyone would) and made him make tough decisions (but it’s Katara & Sokka to help Aang save Bumi proving he’s not doing it alone). And I like how they gave Suki more of a character than she ever had, having her wanting to see what was outside and Sokka “showing” her while still learning from the Kyoshi warriors. I also like the depictions of Jet, Roku, Kyoshi, Mai & Ty Lee in the few scenes they are in. It’s got its flaws, Katara mostly, a spirit knife?, Kuruk wasn’t necessary, Kyoshi seeing the future isn’t necessary as they need to learn waterbending, Katara vs Pakku could be a lot better, and Aang doesn’t learn waterbending.
I agree with this take. And I'm also happy Ash is hyping up Azula as well. The fact that some fans are dragging the actors for Azula, Mei and Ty Lee is just so embarassing and sad.

Finally, a true fan of the original series who is also able to appreciate this live-action remake for what it is. I am not a fan of live reviews but I love that you enjoyed this because there are many things to love about this show.
What did you enjoy ? Everyone I know ( many have never seen the cartoon ) where bored out their minds !? No character emotions or grow, drama scenes are weird .. always just talking instead of showing the emotion or showing what the person is going through.. So I genuinely ask what was there to enjoy ? Maybe we missed some deep magic in the netflix show?
@@tanii7813 Perhaps you guys are in the minority because not only did the show do phenomenally well, but it has also been renewed for a 2nd and *3rd* season. And before you respond hastily, kindly google these publicly available facts. I have no doubt that you and many others who don't like it have genuine concerns. I believe, your reviews will be taken into consideration by the showrunners for the forthcoming seasons.
If I could describe the live action version in one word, it would be impatient. They scrap a lot of the character flaws (Aang’s fear of responsibility with being the Avatar, Katara’s jealousy and stubbornness, Sokka’s biases and not being the best leader) bc they either just want to get to the action or their afraid of the audience disliking or disagreeing with our characters. Even Zuko has hints of his redemption right off the bat despite him being a straight up villain in season 1 (ie they switched Zuko burning down Kyoshis village with Zhao). And Azula and Ozai…are just completely different people. Azula would NEVER defy her father, but she gets redeemed in the comics after the series so we have to set that up RIGHT AWAY rather than naturally develop it and reveal her mental distress in season 3. Who has time for intricate character development when we got action scenes we gotta get to? (Also don’t even get me started on Zuko fighting back against his father. That for me solidified that these writers don’t understand ATLA at all)
this is probably why the original ATLA creators stepped away; they could see how many changes were being made that was changing the essence of ATLA & dipped
I think theyre rushing because the lead actor is about to hit a growth spurt IRL. Dont want a stranger things situation where 35 year olds are playing 15 year olds.
When they could have done a part 1 situation and adapt just the first 10 episodes shot for shot with some of these more dark additions adding in better line art but not trying to reinvent the wheel. A hexagon doesn’t work as a wheel just cuz it’s aesthetic lmao
It's the writing that's stopping me from enjoying this as much as I want to. More specifically, the lines that they've written for almost everyone in the show are often stilted, awkward and extremely exposition heavy. All the characters say exactly what they're feeling at any given time instead of letting the audience figure it out from good acting / direction. I don't actually mind the changes they've made in terms of story details, after all, if I wanted the same exact story I'd just watch the original. I think the actors are just being fed bad lines and aren't being given good enough direction. Child actors definitely need more direction after all. Surely they can afford hiring good writers. Hopefully there are some shake ups before they make season 2 and 3.

As someone who did grow up watching the animated series, played all the games, used Aang as a nickname in school projects, and etc....I don't think the live action show is as bad as people say it is. People have to understand that animation will never translate well into live action and it will never be on the same level. They are completely different mediums and it would make the show even more pointless than it already is by trying to be 1:1. While there is valid criticisms to be made, I'm excited to see them learn from those choices and see how they do in Seasons 2 and 3.

It's near impossible to find other youtube reations that share in the same good faith. This was so fun to watch though!! I love how much you ate up Zuko's performance and JUST 👏 YOU 👏 WAIT 👏. it needs to be 2-3 episodes at least and they should expand the episodes for one season into 14 or 16 😭@@mrwatermelo50
@@Alexanderthegreat159"the whole character arc" with suki being one episode

“And to the four guys who watch this channel…” I’ve never felt so seen in my life, thank you.
I get the complaint, I do, but for 8 episodes I feel like it wouldn’t have made sense anywhere else tbh
Did…did seeing the fire nation literally kill them not show they were screwing around?
Also, there’s only 8 episodes.
I think the violence also makes the live action not really appropriate for kids. It was hard enough for me to watch it as an adult, that would’ve been traumatizing as a kid.

as a straight guy viewer, it's lonely out here lol
personally i thought the acting and the visuals were really good, but the writing was very subpar and ended up trimming a good chunk of the meat off of all the characters and what made them (and the show) so lovable in the first place. it felt like throughout the season they were so focused on trying to convince the audience that a live action remake has potential and not enough time focusing on actually making it charming and worth falling in love with in the way that the animated version did. in other words, it was a lot of assuring the audience “don’t worry, we have muscles we can flex” and not enough of actually flexing those muscles. i completely understand why the original creators decided to depart from this remake, but i also want to just say that aang’s acting in particular was incredible. there were multiple times throughout watching where even though the writing had me feeling some type of way, i had to stop and just go “damn what good acting though”
It’s the writing and short season. If it was a 12 or 13 episode season then it could have been better

Aang going out for a midnight fly instead of full on running away from his responsibilities in fear completely crumbled the starting point for Aang's character and I don't know why they chose to do that 😭
The Netflix adaptation had great visuals. They did Katara so dirty.
Yep & she’s one of my favorite characters 😔

Given how much negativity I've seen toward this series - the nicest reactions tend to be "it's okay I guess, but not as good as the original" - it's really refreshing to see someone who was a fan of the original and is also loving this version. I can't wait to see you tackle the rest of this season!
Live action just wasn’t up to par.
@@ammonite0257live action will never live up to animation. You have to view it differently with a sense of nostalgia to enjoy or properly. Constantly comparing it to the original will get you nowhere
@@shisurvives2635 if it will never live up to the animation, then why even make it? Seriously. They already treat animation like it’s “for kids”, but when they try to adapt it, it has dumbed down the writing as if it’s a kids show. And some of y’all are giving it too much lee way for what is an adaption of an already proven story
@@shisurvives2635it's not even about that, the writing and directing of this was just so shit
Just wanted to say I'm one of the four guys that watch your channel and I love your content. You're awesome Ash, keep doing you! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Funny coincidence that I just rewatched you vid on the movie and thought "I wonder if/when she'll do the new one"
Ash once again answering my prayers
Let's not forget her final fight scene.👀
also the scenes she has here literally do not exist in the show she she’s kinda going from scratch for this part
i honestly feel like she couldve done a pretty decent job if they just gave her better lines and direction. i think that for all of them, tbh. the actors themselves arent that bad, the writing and directing is just god awful.
ASH PLEASSE PLEASEE DO A PART TWOOOO I LOVE YOUR REACTION TO THIS SERIESSSS IM ALSO A DIEHARD FAN OF THE ANIMATED SERIES AND WATCHING YOU REACT TO THE NEW LIVE-ADAPTAION IS LIKE WATCHING IT WITH YOUUUU

As a fan we also were trying to be open minded but some things just didn't stick
I dont think this happiness lasts very long...
Ima need you to do a part 2 of this ❤️❤️
If I could describe the live action version in one word, it would be impatient.
Yeah so many horrible changes. Didn’t even feel like the same story. Why change anything when the original is perfect? 😭
“impatient” is such a good way to describe it!
When they could have done a part 1 situation and adapt just the first 10 episodes shot for shot with some of these more dark additions adding in better line art but not trying to reinvent the wheel. A hexagon doesn’t work as a wheel just cuz it’s aesthetic lmao
I was about to comment you not reacting to Leaves From The Vine playing I be the background 😭 I was literally like “Ash… ASH DO YOU HEAR IT??”
Omg yay! Glad you're reacting to this! Always Love your Reactions ❤
I can't believe out of all the youtubers who reacted to this show, you're the only one that caught on with Oma and Shu. 😁
Part two I’m begging you!!!!🙏🏻
It's the writing that's stopping me from enjoying this as much as I want to.
Same, especially with Aang. They didn't deliver him at all IMHO
Girl, You already you KNOW you better be recording the rest of these videos!!! ❤
The arcs arent... my favorite. The dialogue exhausts me. But there was some scenes in this show that are so OUTSTANDING That I really can't hate it. But man..... there's some choices here

@@camryn7023they had no reason to change Katara the way they did. They said they took out some of the misogyny and then provided us with a watered down Katara.
The actor who played Sokka nailed it, he is the most like the character, and I love the Zuko Iroh duo, they are the real main characters of this show
PLEASEEE watch the rest! your reactions have been my FAVORITE out of all that I've seen. I love how much fun you're having with it and how you've spent your time engaging with the live action instead of comparing it to the animated series the whole time. I'm an insanely big fan of the animated show and acknowledge that it is one of the best shows ever created, so I tried my best to divorce it from this series to give the live action a fair shake to do its own thing. It's near impossible to find other youtube reations that share in the same good faith.
This was so fun to watch though!! I love how much you ate up Zuko's performance and JUST 👏 YOU 👏 WAIT 👏. It gets even better!!
