How do you take the oil, say olive oil, to increase absorption? Teaspoon at time of taking D3? Any other good uses for olive oil? Do tanning beds increase D3 levels? Thanks.

    • @KenDBerryMD

Some people take a spoon full of oil with their D3 gel-cap, some take Cod Liver oil which has D3 in it. Or, you could just take your D3 after a meal that contained fat...

Certain tanning beds do have good Vit D rays. You just have to ask the tanning place you go which bed they have and always request that bed. Our local place has like 10 beds and only one helps with Vit D

I found out about my severe vitamin D deficiency in March and in two months my levels went upto 33 ng from 7. I am aiming for 55ng.I started with 4K IU of d3 then went on to 10k IU along with magnesium, fish oil. It was life changing! I also had to correct my severe B12 and iron deficiency with shots and infusions respectively.I took a zinc + b complex capsule too. I also made some dietary changes by limiting dairy, gluten and sugar. I am a different person now. I used to have extreme hair fall, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, poor balance, bone pain, weak teeth, numbness in my toes, lack of concentration , poor memory, depression, anxiety and brain fog. My career, social life, relationships everything was suffering for so many years. I feel like over 75% of my problems are gone. It didn’t take too long, only a few months for this entire transformation. Please do not ignore nutritional deficiencies . I hope this helps people 🙏🏼

Do you think some people feel better than others with a vitamin D level over 50 ng/ml?
I have a friend who said he felt terrible at a level of 28 and didn't feel optimal until he hit 70.
Mine is a lot lower at 16. He said he felt depressed, irritable, and fatigued at 28. On my own lab report, they say a level of 30 is the low end of normal. I guess even getting just a bit lower than 30 can cause different people more problems than it would seem? (At least to me, this is curious if some labs are claiming that 30 is the low normal.)

My levels are very low and doc has me on D2 once a week and on D3 rest of the week...... I stopped doing this because in my head this does seem to be working and I feel its not right..... mind you my Doc never stated to take with healthy fats either.

D, so it actually can be used by the body. So, if taking the vitD make sure how your magnesium level is. And unfortunately only a intracelluler test gives the real/correct level.. Thank you, thank you for this video, Dr. Berry. This gives me hope that I could get better from this "mystery" condition of which I have been suffering for a year now. NONE of the doctors I have seen mentioned a vit D deficiency, despite all the blood tests and a 2 day hospitalization. It had been mind boggling that not one of my doctors recognized where my problem is coming from. It wasn't until I stumbled on a blood result that indicated that my vit d was at below 30 that I decided to help myself to vit D3 supplementation that my energy level allowed me to walk around on my own for an hour in the mall without feeling that I might die if I did not stop to sit down. This condition is so terrible and yet not one of my ivy league educated doctors could diagnose it. They think I had been making up my symptoms, or I am just depressed or I need exercise! Unbelievable! These so called health professionals have been disappointing and discouraging. On the other hand, your video had been helpful. Thank you.

Re the sound: volume is fine, however you have a "smooth" voice (me, too) that older listeners may have trouble absorbing. Hearing loss is not just about volume, it's also about lack of clarity in picking up consonants. Careful enunciation (but not to the point of stiffness) helps. So does taking those hearing aids out of the drawer and actually wearing them.

Another great video Dr Berry! Yes I could hear you fine. Due to having to making it short and straight to the point I understand why you didn't get into the scientific terminology and how D works, so I want to just add some info if I may. VitaD3 is actually made from animals (cholecalciferol) which is actually easier and preferred by our liver to be synthesized into 25(OH)D3 then re-synthesized again into 1,25(OH)2D3 by our the kidneys, the actual hormone that our bodies need. VitaD2 (ergocalciferol) is made from plants and cannot be fully converted into 25(OH)D3 by the liver. D2 is also cheaper to produce so I don't know why anyone would need a prescription to get a more inferior VitaD supplement. So I would 100% agree with you that #1 sun exposure to UVB rays for us to make our own D3 is best and free. Or to simply eat rich D3 foods, such as oily fish, liver, egg yolk, butter, etc #2 would be to go with D3 (oil capsules preferrably from wild cod or cod liver). #3 would be to go with regular affordable D3 tablets as a last resort taken with olive oil or other healthy fats. Personally I would not even recommend D2 because I think it's a waste of money and for the reason I stated above

After doing 23andMe, my daughter (17) and I found out we have more than one gene 🧬 that affects how our bodies assimilate vitamin D. Her last blood draw it was low. Now we know why. I was already giving her 2000 IUs. Since the last draw I upped it to 5000. It has made a huge difference in her. She was anxious, stressed, lacked concentration and motivation. We kind of wish we had known this earlier. At 5, her pediatrician noticed her growth rate had slowed dramatically. He ran a blood panel. The only thing he noticed that was wrong was gluten sensitivity. Well...we went down that path and also saw an endocrinologist for growth issues. I think if the standard for D3 serum levels were higher and he knew to check the right one things would have been A LOT different for her. At least we know now.
    Great video by the way!!!

First of all, I want to say that I really like your videos. They have really helped me out. I am taking a daily dose of vitamin D3 now and I feel better than I have ever felt before. I have so much more energy.
Yesterday I have heard some very bad news from one of my best friends. She came back from the hospital, because she had taken some allergy tests. The doctors there have told her that she has a very rare allergy to vitamin D. They have tested her blood before and her vitamin D levels were at 14. They have also done skin tests. They told her she is the 4th person worldwide to have this rare reaction to vitamin D. She can't eat fish without throwing up. She couldn't take vitamin D capsules without throwing up.
I was with her and her family yesterday and everyone was very sad. Her mother was afraid that she might die, because one of the doctors told her that out of the 3 other people, one person died during treatment.
It was so good that I have seen many of your videos and now have a little knowledge about vitamin D. Ofcourse I will be very careful about what I say and leave things to the doctors and expert. I was able to give them some peace and rest by providing them information about vitamin D and how it works.
I can't imagine that only 4 people in the world have this ( although those are just the confirmed cases). Apparantly she has had this her entire life. The symptoms of vitamin D deficiency have been a life long experience for her. Also her skin tone has more pigment, because of her Turkish heritage.
I was wondering what your expertise says about this.

    • @momothemuppet
      @momothemuppet 4 года назад

martijn stuart - I wonder if there is a deficiency of something else that is preventing the D absorption? Vitamin D has to have cofactors like magnesium & other vitamins, minerals & trace elements in order to be absorbed properly. The sun makes D sulphate in the skin which in turn helps to make cholesterol. Some people have issues with sulphur. Vitamin D is required for B vitamin absorption & production in the gut. Because most of the research goes into drugs rather than nutrients, sadly this field is still somewhat of a mystery. There are some doctors who understand the D hormone & it’s supporting elements like Dr. Coimbra & Ken Berry, but they are few & far between.

I have been an advocate for vitamin D3 supplementation since I was diagnosed with an extremely low vitamin D level about 10 years ago. It took 6 months of taking 10,000-12,000 IUs a day for me to reach just the middle lab range. F4r I was taking was a high-quality gel-capsule containing fractionated extra virgin coconut oil. A couple of years into trying to raise my level further, I went to order the same capsules but they were out of stock. So I ordered the same ones but in the liquid drops version. Long story short (I know, too late), it turns out that my body very much prefers a liquid drops. My level rose to near the top of the range before the bottle was gone. Fast forward a few years after maintaining that nice high-level... I figured I was good with solid high-level so switch back to the capsules since they are a little cheaper. Happened to have a regular lab check two and a half months into the capsules and my level had dropped quite a bit. So I went right back to the level went right back up.
Pretty interesting. Just goes to show we have to do what works for our individual bodies.
Now, I had never heard about the losing the belly fat part of using vitamin D. I'm here to tell you if that were the case I should be skinny by now, LOL. I'm obese and it's all in the belly. So, no, that didn't work on me, so sorry to say. Keto and intermittent fasting is the answer for belly fat loss, it's really working.

Many thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing it with us. I've only just been diagnosed with very low vitamin d levels and till now like others didn't even know anything about it what it did or how it affected us or how important it is to us....
Ive been suffering chronic muscle fatigue extremely tired even to the point of tremors when holding a cup of tea and feeling absolutely knackered after work..... I've just started taking supplements so we'll have to see what happens Thanks of the information 👍👍👍
