- Today on the PBP Channel we focus on the L5D KODIAK trucks ( 4500 , 5500 , 6500 )! From the factory we were highly disappointed in performance, mileage and Towing ability! Have we made up our mind to sell our Tow rig or are we looking to add another KODIAK soon to the Shop?! Watch now our D1 Hp package in action topped off with a 4 tire Dyno Run #PBPBUILT

Load that trailer down and drive the same route. That’s impressive with an empty trailer. I want to see it with some real weight on it.
Not a issue Sir ! Keep a look out for a Upcoming Video !
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE I like the results so far. If I ever get my truck, I might be looking you up.
@@treetopflyersofva2 You the man 🤟🤟
What tuner you run efi live? I have a H&S minimaxx on my lml duramax 3500 fully deleted and it makes amazing power and you can't feel anything behind you while towing
Nothing but respect for this guy
We appreciate that sir !!!!
that is the perfect power range for a truck that size it make the engine live up to the rest of the truck I am hoping to have one around spring time
Great to see you were able to wring some significant power out of this truck. That will certainly help for the folks looking to make one of these an overland camping rig.
It will would be awesome !!
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE Yeah, I've been going back and forth between an F550 and one of these Silverados, and there are certain things that are giving the Silverado the edge right now. Being able to get some bigger power numbers out of the Silverado is a game changer when added to the other features I like. Keep up the good work :)
@@themetalmaiden7462 Thank you mam and keep us posted on what you go with !
So I work for navistar for 11 year I had part in developing this truck and yes they are meant to pull and adding all the extra power the cooling pack will not be able to handle its way to small for that extra power and the reasons they are down tuned it’s becuz of dot regulations it had to be a specific power to weight. They are regulated
I own a fleet maintenance company and out of genuine curiosity...what DOT regulation requires class 3 - class8 trucks need to have a certain power : weight ratio? I've never heard of this. I was under the impression that they were de tuned for longevity and comfort
There are no dot regulations
It's all about how the government dyno them
And they are detuned for longevity. Normally these trucks are not owner operated
And they get beat to all hell
This is the power they should have damnit

I had on 05 c4500 , I have been contemplating getting a new one . Currently have a17 f250 powerstroke. My local dealer was telling me the chevy 4500 don’t have a great tow rating 🤷🏻♂️. Seems to work fine for you !
Hell yes! Love the excitement man! Keep up the good work
Pleeeeeeease show us more of this truck in the future!!! Also what’s next for mods on it?
A 4x4 stretched chassis for an EarthRoamer build would be nice $$$
Sounds good 🔥🔥🔥
why bother? the 3500 is rated for MORE GCWR. with MORE power right out of the box! these medium duty trucks were built to be vocational trucks ( mechanics truck, flatbed car hauler, box truck ect...) NOT tow rigs. they ARE rated for more GVWR which basically means they are built to take the weight ON the truck, NOT on the trailer. plus anything over 26k you need a cdl. how much does that HUGE heavy steel trailer weight? ( im guessing around 10k ) so im guessing you have a LEGAL payload of ... around .... 5000 lbs . ??
it's all fun and games until the trooper pulls out the portable scales ... but hey, on the plus side, it DOES ride like a buckboard wagon!
I take it your not a 5500 fan 🤣
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE i like the way they look ... but the weight ratings are HALF of what they SHOULD be!
edit: good job with the truck! think the transmission will hold 2x the power?
@@bobocaterpillar3697 Yes sir with lower gears in the rear end that will help out ! She’s still rocking and rolling !
Ever think of a compound turbo set up
You guys would have a blast with my 2019 4500 Silverado
😎😎
The power you gave it is what it should of had from the factory. 200 horses is embarrassing
There are to many regulations for a truck like that so it’s all about gearing and torque
It would be cool to see a Kodiak make 900-1000 whp. Like 1800-2k lb foot of tq heck maybe 2200 tq
I don't think the Duramax bottom end even when built can handle 2200 lb/ft. Even our Cummins tend to split blocks at will around that 2k mark. I know the L5P is an animal, but that's a tall order. I would certainly tune in for that though.
I’d love to see numbers on I-70 in Colorado durning July. Eastbound from Frisco!
All you did was change the turbo out? Did you change injectors too?
Okay, what parts? I need this
I want one now
I'm getting a 5500 real soon. Ordered it almost a year ago. What's the cost to have that package put on my truck?
2 questions?
1- Will your 5500 now putting out over 1 thousand lbs of torque will it spin or chirp the four rear tires??
2- I have a 2019 3500HD duel wheel steel flatbed regular cab diesel 6 speed 40,000 miles on it. Can the same or similar setup be done to it to raise the horsepower and torque numbers ? 3rd question (SORRY) I said two questions.
3- On your 5500 when you raised the horsepower and torque numbers did that increase your road speed limit ??? My 3500HD 1 ton tops out at 97 mph sometimes I’ve seen 99. Not too often do I run that speed but on the Hwy if you don’t pay attention to your speed you will stay in that area with very little trouble. I pull a 32ft LoadTrail flatbed with mega ramps with little effort loaded and empty but it sucks fuel like mad. Empty bob tailing I can see just over 700 miles on a fill up of 60 gallons factory fuel tanks. I don’t want to race my truck but just having the extra power is nice.
Thanks

1 She will do burn outs if called upon😂 2 Yes sir 3 We will red line the rpm’s before we run out of MPH ! 130 I believe sir ! We use this truck 100% as it was built for to pull heavy load , get the best mileage possible and make the engine life longer than it would off the lot !
Any more updates on this truck
You guys do any upgrades for the GM/Allison 10 speed tranny?
Just out tcm cals only sir.
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE WHAT DOES IT COST AND WILL IT HELP ON LINE PRESSURE?
What would it cost to get y'all to do this to an international CV? I'm in SW OK. Does it void warranty?
Other than some up pipes to match the stock L5P turbo, did you guys keep all of the stock charge pipes? Do these medium dutys have a bigger intercooler than the 2500/3500 platform? Also what about some piping upgrades for this truck! I know Wherli built one for himself too but havent seen any engine updates for the 5500s
3 Big Questions - Are you going to post videos of towing massive loads with this setup?
-Will the mods you performed void warranty?
-Could you simply install an L5P ECM with the L5P turbo and essentially have an L5P (injectors too if necessary), then flip back to your L5D ECM for warranty dealings?
So is there software on it that limits power in lower gears or is it just your dyno can't load it hard enough for the actual power it makes to show up? I seen some smoke that second run bound to be knocking on the door of some high egts for a long pull.
How are the clutch packs in the trans holding up?
Still going sir !
This is sweet set up
When will you come out with a package for the ram 5500?
Thank you sir ! Unfortunately we haven’t had one to do at the shop but if we do it will be up making runs on the Dyno !
@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE have you guys done the ram 5500 yet?
I got a 21, 5500 limited with a eby bed on it I've towed 41k with it, hwo much can the trannys take are they the weak point still?
How does it do haul equipment let’s even say 30 4x5 round bales
I pull a 50 foot goose neck , f-250 and a 2500 cummins eats it like candy ! Our only reason for having the truck is to pull .
Now do it on a F-650/750 🙃🥳
That's a different class truck. F550/ram 5500 would be sweet though.
Would be nice
Did you change the injectors also?
No sir
impressive!!!
Did you ever make a stock 5th gear pull?
Speed limiter wouldn’t allow us to do make a pull !
Did this leave emissions intact?
Telling you know if you put the extra power into it, it will clog up your def unless it’s deleted…more power equals smog, black smoke,,,delete it for 3k or your doing to destroying its”2500
What all did you do to it? I just bought a 2023, 4500.
Where are you guys located?
NEA Arkansas sir !
What generation L5P turbo did you use? Impressive numbers for sure!
22 2500 L5P oem charger sir !
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE that’s all you did was swap to the 2022 L5P turbo ?? Damn that’s impressive!
It not built to pull it built to have a load.
270 miles per tank… that’s not bad but still damn
My 2020 6500 gets about 11 mpg average on a hood work week is 12.2 mpg . Dont the best and the tank isnt that big at all
@@THatChevyguy91I’m looking to buy one but everyone says they can’t pull would u recommend one to tow around 30k
@@alexisgonzalez5927 we have towed heavy equipment with ares . The exhaust break is a pretty nice feature helps a lot . But if your not towing or hauling the suspension is stiff as a brick . Good power
@@alexisgonzalez5927 f450 or the dodge 5500 are you two other options.
@@THatChevyguy91 is it good for mountains we live in Utah
I have a 2019 5500 you have a kit for me.
F 450 best way to go
We do love the F450!
I want better pull, fuel mileage and cooler EGTs
What year ?
Was delivered May 2019 5500 l5d
@@POINTBLANKPERFORMANCE 2019 delivery was May 31
@@dlc423 I would do a 2500 series turbo and emission on tuning sir !!
Do you happen to know how much weight on a pintle hitch this truck could pull ?
No emblem 😂
Are the injections the same in the L5D and the L5P?
No they have smaller injectors and smaller turbo
@@onetwoyouadeadman he didn't say he changed the injectors . just computer and turbo.
WHY would you test this truck withOUT a load on the trailer ?
If you ever see us at a show look for that green trailer with always 2 trucks on it.
That trailer don’t weigh anything. What’s it weigh, 5 to 6,000 lbs.
I would agree it’s not heavy 7500. We use it to tow 2 trucks at time to shows. On the conservative side 25k . Not heavy for heavy duty but light duty it’s decent weight.
And why…I have a 550 comes detuned
4.88 gear with a 10 speed, 36 lbs of boost
Don’t worry abou egts above 1300
Random question, how’s the turn radius on this beast? Does it have a steep turn angle like the ram and Ford 4500’s?
Great truck but the turning radius is horrible
Mine turns great for the size, but I'm 2wd, the 4wd probably doesn't turn as good
Pulling a empty trailer doesn’t really show much
True ! But if you owed one you would understand its impressive that it can even pull it up a hill and not down shift sir. Thanks for the view!
That’s not a Kodiak it’s a Silverado
Please don’t use our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ name irreverently. Thank you.
if you dont like it go somewhere else .
