  • Nick Priegnitz, owner/CEO Of DuramaxTuner breaks down what we did with this massive L5D. The customer came to WCFab and they brought the truck to us to get more from this Duramax. What is installed on it? WCFab put up-pipes, a downpipe, Stealth 64, and our custom tuning. The result? We brought this beast to life!

    Also consider, L5D oil cooler is smaller than the L5P. I'm not sure if it's the same heat exchanger innards as the LML, but it's not the same as the 20+ L5P unit. This is worth knowing for guys that are looking for a junkyard L5P oil cooler to put on their older duramax...the L5D is not the one you want.

      Why would you want to go to the junkyard when banks has l5p oil coolers that bolt on all generations of duramax for 550 bucks on his website

    -Will the mods you performed void warranty?
    If so,
    -Could you simply install an L5P ECM with the L5P turbo and essentially have an L5P (injectors too if necessary), then flip back to your L5D ECM for warranty dealings?

      Great question! The factory likely is not going to like any custom tuning if it means they can deny a claim. We do have customers that keep their factory ECM/turbo so they can swap back at any time.

    What’s the mileage difference for your emissions compliant tuning?

      Our fuel-conscious customers typically report an increase of between 2-3mpg. However, this will only be seen if you drive the truck in a fuel-efficient manner. If you're constantly on and off of the accelerator you may see little to no increase.

      @@smithsdumpsterrental One of the most common causes of poor fuel economy that we see is actually boost leaks. Even if you are thinking about going with a tune. You should definitely boost leak test your truck first. We sell a boost leak tester that can fit your truck here on our website. Also some fresh appropriate weight oil can always help too.     I have an 08!!! I cannot find any research about it will my twin turbo kit and 60%s from my LMM work ? Lol

      @SuperDK0113 The twin kit will definitely not adapt directly too the Kodiak/TopKick engine. However, you'r 60 over injectors may.

    What is the difference in your tunes compared to deleting the truck and tuning it?

      Our tunes are industry-leading. A lot of the delete tuners don't tune for reliability.

    Just FYI, I have a bone stock 2019 5500. I was doing OTR hotshot with it. My combined GVWR was 40klbs truck and trailer and while I usually stayed under that by a bit I had no issues towing in that weight range with a stock truck. The truck is more than capable to tow factory stock. I never once felt I was being "out towed" up a hill as I could easily pass whoever I wanted even heavy.
    Also just to note, I'd estimate 85% of the miles on my truck were in tow/haul with the engine brake engaged so it was bought to tow and that's what I did with it. It lived its life with a 40ft Big Tex 25gn hooked to it.
    With that said, my truck has 150k miles on it now and it developed an emissions code p003a which appears to be something with the turbo vanes.. I loved the truck and it's been mostly trouble free but this single breakdown will stop me from buying another GM product because they've locked the computers down on these trucks and unless you have expensive computer equipment you can't fix them yourself.
    To add insult to injury, every single dealer I've called is a 4 week wait for service because none of the dealers will hire more than 1 diesel tech it seems and not all dealers are authorized to work on the MD's.
    Not even international who sell the same truck just rebadged can do anything with the computer. As a result, the truck being down almost put me out of business and I had to get another truck to replace it. Never again will I buy GM over this. I'm right now paying $1k/month for a truck sitting broken down. GM's greed killed an awesome truck because they want to force you to take it to a dealer for repair but won't even hire enough mechanics to fix them in a timely manner.

      I would suggest bringing it someplace put a new updated turbo on it get it tuned and unlocked so you can check things yourself not a big tune obviously but one turbo Wiens or turbo go out 99% of the time you’re better off upgrading anyways honestly, just my opinion

      IMO towing that much weight often you're doing good to get that out of a newer diesel of any kind. 🍺

    We went from a 92 chevy with a 366 big block so now that we have a 5500 dump truck its a power house stock😅😅😅

      @eliomorales6900 We are still waiting on CARB to test our L5P and L5D Tuning for California Emissions Compliance. It has already passed 49 state testing so as soon as CARB gets around to it we should have something for you!

      We aren't trying to get this guy to buy a new transmission. We know the limits and heard what our customer wanted and gave him that.

      Always better with a bigger turbo if it’s spools good it’s just like the TwinTurbo kitty cats. A lot of guys didn’t like them. That’s only because they didn’t know how to tune them. They made much more power with a much broader power ban and ran cooler. If tuned properly
