    Player: Heroes Of Xanadu: Wizards & Warrirors is a game that will make you run around, fight enemies with your sword, find keys to open tresure chests, and locked doors, get items and weapons, and find the Gems in a level. Then you have to, take the gems to the knight blocking the exit door, and you can get out and go to the next level. Through out the game, you will get items, some you keep, others can be replaced. You also, fight some bosses. Overall, playing Wizards & Warriors was a difficult but also very rewarding experience.

    Wizards & Warriors is a platforming video game developed by UK-based company Rare Ltd. for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was published by Acclaim and released in North America in December 1987 and in Europe on January 7, 1990. It was also released in Japan by Jaleco on July 15, 1988, under the title Densetsu no Kishi Elrond (伝説の騎士エルロンド?). In the game, players control Kuros, the "Knight Warrior of the Books of Excalibur", as he sets out in the Kingdom of Elrond to defeat the evil wizard Malkil, who holds the princess captive in Castle IronSpire, located deep within Elrond's forests. During the game, players make their way through forests, tunnels, and caves, battling hordes of enemies and collecting treasure, magical items, and additional weaponry to get past the obstacles and hazards that lie in their path.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It was Rare's second game released for the NES, after Slalom. Wizards & Warriors was featured in early video gaming magazines such as Nintendo Fun Club News, Nintendo Power, and VideoGames & Computer Entertainment in 1988 and 1989. The main characters Kuros and Malkil would make appearances in the animated series The Power Team (part of the TV video game reviewing show Video Power) and Captain N: The Game Master. The game would also be novelized for the Worlds of Power series of NES game adaptations, created by Seth Godin. It received general praise for its graphics, sound, difficulty, and arcade-style gameplay. Criticisms include the presence of unlimited continues, which allow players to restart the game right where they previously left off while retaining all items that were collected before.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Retro Gamer called Wizards & Warriors "a unique experience for NES gamers in 1987, and technically well ahead of other games for the console at the time". The game also spawned three sequels: Ironsword: Wizards & Warriors II, Wizards & Warriors III: Kuros: Visions of Power and Wizards & Warriors X: The Fortress of Fear. Wizards & Warriors pits the story's hero Kuros, the "Knight Warrior of the Books of Excalibur", against the main antagonist, the evil wizard Malkil. He was considered one of the greatest wizards in the land, such that Merlin was one of his students. However, the aging Malkil has gone mad and has started using his magic for evil. As a result, Malkil has captured the princess and holds her prisoner in Castle IronSpire, deep within the forests of Elrond. The game's protagonist, the brave knight Kuros, is
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    summoned to venture through the forests of Elrond. He is armed with the legendary Brightsword, a sword that is powerful enough to beat demons, insects, undead, and the other creatures which have fallen under Malkil's spell. With the sword, he ventures out through the forests of Elrond and the various caves and underground tunnels and to Castle IronSpire, where he must defeat Malkil and rescue the princess. Wizards & Warriors is a platformer in which players control Kuros as he makes his way through the forests of Elrond to Castle IronSpire, where he must defeat Malkil and rescue the princess. After starting the game, the map is briefly shown for players to look at; afterwards, gameplay starts. Starting in the Elrond forest, players must explore the trees - both on top and inside - to find items and to make it into the caves and tunnels.
    Musically, wizards and warriors is one of the better sounding games on the NES. Every theme rocks, and some of the music is simply classic. Come on, i will never forget the game over music. Classic stuff there, my friend.
      +Nocturnal Pulse All the music in this game is great. It really fits the mood. Good stuff. You'll recognize the boss theme; its a classic tune. I can't name its origin, but trust me, it'll sound familiar.
    Creeped me out when I was a child. I found it violent, brutal and dark. And loved it.
      +dexterWES The game is kinda weird and creepy but also amazing when you become good at it. The sequel, iron sword is the one in the series that has the best balance from graphics to sound and music and control but some people prefer the first game and i can't blame them because the first game is so good and come so close to the sequel standard for me. I prefer the sequel just by a inch.
    But anyway, the way back home leads through a cave full of monsters. Me? No I can't escort you. I'm going on to the next level. Good luck making it back home alive.
    I remember getting the NES from Toy"R"Us and getting home only to find out it didn't come with a game, only some thick book by Nintendo. My uncle took me back to the store just before closing and this was the first game i got for it. I stayed up all night to finish it. Memories!
    The fact that this game is different than mostly any other game out there does not make it fun, but the execution of all the innovative ideas does. While some games just stop at being innovative, wizards and warriors combines innovative ideas and a high level of fun factor.
      +Anvil ofGods I'd say that this game deserves more credit: it's so much fun. The challenge is also quite fair, with unlimited continues and no knock back. Not to mention that when you're low on life, the music changes.
    • @HeroesofXanaduSloth
      @HeroesofXanaduSloth  8 лет назад
      +Genji Kojima I love that the color palette is limited. Back then the games were all the more creepy for being primitive. This game is brought me so many good memories from the good old days.
      +Genji Kojima This was one of those games that I played for weeks on end (which is really something considering it's not an RPG) back in the day. It's simple in its execution, but has some really great ideas that you didn't really see a lot back in those days.
    I played this game a lot as a kid. It was very fun even though I never really got far until I got my game genie. You made this game look way easier than it really is. I also did not know the score capped out. Nicely done Sir Xan.
      +KWKBOX Ironsword is my favorite game in the series and Wizard and Warriors is not too far behind but the third game, oh boy, Kuros: Visions of Power is the worse game in the nes trilogy What do you think?
    That Vampire Bat kinda look like the one in Castlevania 3. Amazing skills as always!
    • @HeroesofXanaduSloth
      @HeroesofXanaduSloth  8 лет назад +1
      +Roger Willford Good eyes. When the bat is hit in castlevania 3, it will flash for a moment and then split into two smaller bats. Each time you hit him, he splits into two smaller bats. And each time you hit one of them, they split into two smaller bats, and so forth, until his life runs out. The bat in Wizards & Warriors has a few things in common with the Castlevania counterpart.
    Words cannot describe how important it is to get that feather at 9:25. If you skip it you'll be trapped in the 3rd stage until the enemy drop RNG is generous enough to give you a blue potion to clear the jump at 16:19. Being its a rare drop I hope you have at least an extra 20 minutes to kill on average.
    The play control is decent, though at times it can seem kind of '"floaty". Difficult to explain without actually playing the game. The best way i can describe it is that Kuros seems to thread air in a strange way.
    I've seen some good NES runs but this is truly impressive. This game is just about as hard as it gets (excluding infinite continues of course, but continues are for babies anyway). Well played.
    The axe is twice as strong as the dagger, inflicting 2 units of damage on enemies and bosses.
      I just beat it with the dagger. Couldn't figure out why I was having such a hard time, until I saw this video. I totally forgot about the axe. Damnit.
      Also if you collect enough of the axe powerup drops you gain the ability to throw two at once. Though you lose the power if you die.
