  • A complete playthrough of the final game in the Wizards & Warriors series. This was released in 1992 and like all the Wizards & Warriors games was developed by Rare. It was published by Acclaim.
This one has a free roaming world to explore, sort of like a metroidvania where you earn new powers to access more of the map. You get these powers by joining different guilds, each one with it's own challenging test to complete. Eventually you'll be able to explore the whole map and find the crown jewels, which are needed to unlock the path to the final boss.
This plays slightly different from earlier W&W titles, the combat mechanics have changed, now you can only attack whilst standing still, which can be a pain. Also gone are the constant re-spawning enemies, thankfully, but also gone are the continues and passwords. This makes the game both easier and harder than the earlier games. Generally the game is easy as you wander about exploring but is punctuated by the hard platforming tests you have to take which are much tougher than anything in the previous games. The bosses are about the same as prior games, some easy some hard.
There's also a treasure hunting side quest, where you can find items and return them to various wise men. I don't bother with that in this playthrough because all you get is money (which is plentiful in the game) and some clues on how to progress. It just slows things down when you're trying to beat the game and isn't that interesting or challenging. I do some off the cuff exploring but most of this run is just a straight up path to completion.
