    Player:Heroes Of Xanadu - My favorite shoot 'em up game on the nes.The 80s nostalgia is back ...
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Abadox (Abadokkusu?) is a video game for the NES, subtitled The Deadly Inner War. It is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up in the vein of Gradius and R-Type. The game is notable for its unique visual design, as the game takes place inside the intestinal tract of a giant alien organism who can regenerate at fast speed and morph.The control are simple and basic like the power-up option.Abadox is also difficult, since it takes one hit from an enemy projectile to be killed[citation needed]. In Abadox, if a player is killed, one must restart from a checkpoint passed before death.In the year 5012, the planet known as Abadox is soon eaten by a
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    giant alien organism known as Parasitis. Once the planet has been consumed, the alien takes the form of the entire planet and seeks to devour other planets within the galaxy to erase some system.The galactic military tries to fight the alien, but to no avail, as Parasitis destroys the entire galactic military, except for one hospital ship. It is then discovered that Princess Maria has been devoured as well. The galactic military decides to send out their best fighter, "Second Lieutenant Nazal", to attempt to enter Parasitis' body and rescue Princess Maria before it's too late.The gameplay largely follows the conventions of side-scrolling
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    shooters of the time. The player shoots down various enemies, all of which look like various internal organs (brains, eyes and even cilia). The player can also pick weapons and power-ups. Power-ups include speed boosters, increased firepower, homing missiles and shields similar to the "Option" featured in konami game Gradius.For weapons, the player starts with the normal single shot, but can upgrade to a 3-way gun, a spread fire gun, a laser and a hoop-like weapon. However, like most shooters, if the player is killed, all of the upgrades will be lost and the player will have to restart from the last checkpoint. In some cases, if the
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    player dies, they may have to navigate through enemy fire with slow speed, which could prove more difficult than ever with many enemies coming at the player.Another aspect of Abadox that sets the game off from other shooters is the second, fourth and sixth stages. The play style changes from a side-scrolling perspective to a vertical one, but instead of scrolling upwards like a typical vertical shooter, the stage scrolls downward.The final stage involves an escape sequence where the player must navigate out of the alien's rectal cavity before the alien implodes with tremendous speed to crush the player.

    you pretty much HAVE to beat this game without dying...if you die you lose all your powerups and it dumps you into an area where you can't even kill the enemies and the game becomes impossible.
    if you die, you may as well just reset the game and start over.

      Abadox is one of the game that i own since 1990 so i know everything about this one, but even after playing it for so many years and beating the game so many time, the green phoenix still give me a hard time even to this date. Definitively the meanest enemies in the game. This playthrough was recorded without any cheats, slowdown, savestates or emulator. I recorded the game on a real nes a good while ago. You only need 4 things to beat abadox the legit way: Patience, determination, gaming skills and good reflexes.

    I could never, ever get past the 2nd part of "part 2" where you go straight down, where the arms with hands reach for ya! I gave this up in about 1993, because I always blew up no matter what! But I still have the Abadox, and the NES I bought in 1988, and I know it would still work, but my old TV died about 8 years ago and now, I wouldn't know how to hook it up to a flat screen new TV (although I'm sure it's quite simple; basic Electronics). But thanks for posting this!

    • @shaolinlueb
      @shaolinlueb 9 лет назад

      AlKevorkian you would plug the NES into the cable output in the back of the flatscreen. Or use the red white cables... ir white yellow, I can't remember. I rock my front and top loader NES on a 40 inch flat screen via the cable connection in the back, It's a tad grainy, but fun,

    • @AIKevorkian
      @AIKevorkian 9 лет назад

      shaolinlueb yes indeed, it was that easy. I forgot the old Nintendo Systems hook to a basic coax cable connection. So I rocked out Super Metroid SNES about a month ago, and it was quite grainy, but it was fun until I got to the "Mother Brain" and I was quite a bit too buzzed to defeat it! Oh well, haha, just a game. At least I didn't have to worry about the picture flipping because the vertical control function barely worked by the time my old TV was about 20 years old.

      Get both shields (the one that make the hero flashes and the second one is the rocks that circle around the hero), dodge as many projectiles so they don't hit your shield (rocks that circle around you) and your shield will remain strong. Stick with the parasitis flare (ring hoop weapons) because its clearly the best weapon in the game.

Like you said, *you need all the upgrades in the game* if you want to beat that part of the game + the *speed upgrade* to be fast enough to dodge *projectiles* and the *obstacle* that are in the way.

    As cool as it sounds, the game's story was utterly mistranslated and isn't as grimdark as it seems (and I hate it because I liked the mistranslated version much better). The events of the original story happens in the year of 5012 of Esra era (don't ask me what that means, I don't know either). A huge parasite-like alien organism called Parasitus quickly approaching Earth is detected, that is apparently gonna wipe out all the humankind once its parasitic stuff (called ParasiteX btw) will get in contact with the planet surface. To prevent the worst case scenario, Earth' military forces deploy a whole spaceship fleet to counter the Parasitus, and they utterly fail because that's what always happens right? The only survivor is young ensign Nazal (or Nazar) that was late to the battlefield due to some problem in his spaceship, and the reason he goes inside of Parasitus is to save his loved one Maria, and to avenge his fallen comrades. So none of the planets were eaten in the game (at the very least, Earth wasn't), none of princesses were kidnapped, and the game's title comes from mix between Parasite X and Abaddon, by which name the devs claimed one of the circles of Hell is called.

    too many speed upgrades makes it hard to control. I wish they had made speed upgrades after the 2nd one just slow down the enemies a bit instead. Wouldn't that be the same thing?

    The overhead stages scroll downward, which is unusual.
    It just occurred to me that that blue orb you're holding in Stage 7 must contain the princess.
    Overall, a game that gave your thumbs a thorough workout.

    • @linkinparkrulz2275
      @linkinparkrulz2275 2 года назад

      Yeah you spend about half the game scrolling downward because you're slowly descending into the core of the planet... the final sequence is the player flying out away from the core.

    It seems like your using a invincible cheat. Your character is flashing the whole time and were hit several tines and didn't die. A speed run while invincible and beating the game is pretty lame.

      To be fair, the hitboxes are just really wonky. I tried the game using save states and you realize you go through a lot that should kill you.
