Player:Heroes Of Xanadu - I just love this game so much... The game over screen of Ganon still haunt me to this day. Back when i was a kid Zelda 2 had the most intimidating soundtrack of all the game i played in the 80s. Zelda 2 had some great combat system for a game released January 14, 1987 in north america.

Despite the difficultiy its a good game despite all the criticism
I use to make this game easier for myself by racking up as much skill points as possible for hours and days early on in the game. I would just keep fighting the easy enemies over and over and over again lol. after a week or so of doing this, I would play the story and not have a hard time lol. It is kind of a boring tactic, but I was young and felt like it was worth it and necessary to beat the game. Thanks for the nostalgia though! I enjoyed watching this!
Im only 12 abt to be 13 i played this game and the first one for the very first time in February and the first one despite the graphics was a great game and i loved it iv been a zelda fan for abt 6 years and oot was my first one but zelda ll was ok i mean hard ass hell but i figured it out and after i beat it it felt like i defeated satan it was awesome
When I first played it I was 6 years old and I had no clue about the leveling up system and just played it like a normal game haha

I remember playing this game when I was 14. I can still remember the very spot I got stuck (1:22:57), A mere 20 minutes from the end. I cant imagine how many man hours it took me to fumble my way through, trial and error to get to that point. So Much Fun

The start of my gaming from 11 yrs old. I’m 40 now...so badass yet easier than the 1st Zelda. The change in gameplay and graphic mesmerized me. I went to school talking about fighting your shadow!! So unique

i havent watched this yet but i cant imagine not dying on the way to the final temple. you must have played this a ton. i still have my original game saved on my cartridge from when i first beat it 25 yrs ago. im still on my 2nd time around. you get to keep all your exp. pts when you start again. i had to use the game genie to get through the last palace the first time.
Yeah, you have to play it a ton. I managed to beat the game deathless too. Before I tried though I just ran through that final palace over and over and over again (If you get a game over in the final palace it starts you outside the palace, not at the start of the game.) Even then it wasn't easy.

Strolling down memory lane. Spiritually refreshing. I remember beating the game & restarting another quest, when I died in the 1st palace it turned to stone without me beating the boss. I assume it was just a glitch but I heard of other people doing that too.

The first cave with the magic container is easy. But yeah its an unnecessary risk to go after the trophy one without it. And I gotta say.. Ive beaten this game deathless before, and
something's just really off about how this run is going. Taking needless risks, dealing with enemies inefficiently, being careless in the places most likely to kill you (getting knocked into a pit.)
I think there's a high chance this is a tool assisted run.
Going through Death Mountain before even going to the first palace? First time I've ever seen that in a playthrough.
My custom hard mode of the game. I only choose that path on days that i feel strong enough to take on such a challenge.
Did you know that there are connections between Zelda and machinery? Link is a chain link and Gannon is a cannon and Zelda is a cell don’t you get it?

Yep..You immediately ran AWAY from the hardest enemy in the Great Palace. Fokkas can be a Fokka.
I like that you keep your stats and spells once you beat the game.
Great run! I've yet to beat it without dying, but I might be able to now with this as a reference.
+Avram Neal The only Zelda game that offer an RPG level-up system. It also has a large overworld map with caves, towns and palaces, not to mention random encounters with baddies. Throw in a number of subquests to complete and you have a good run of Zelda 2. If you have any trouble with the run, you can always get the candle or play the easier version of the game, the japanese counterpart. Good luck and send me a message if you ever complete that run so we can link both run together.

The last boss is super easy. Just go to the left side of the screen,, duck, and continue stabbing. He'll keep running into your sword and die before too long :)
+bugpadzero the *last* is, ya, but I had a heck of a time with the final boss just before Dark Link. Took me a number of tries. I remember the first time I tried battling Dark Link, I lost, and I was like "nooo!! do I really have to go all through that temple again and fight the final boss?!" and fortunately, while I did have to travel through the temple again, the boss was defeated by the time I got to the last room and I just walked straight into the battle with Dark Link and won. So relieved.
+link470 I knew about that dark link glitch secret for years now, i din't do it because some gamers call it cheap and i wanted to beat the last boss the hard way but nevertheless, that a neat little secret.

59:12 So what was the plan if an XP bag dropped here instead of the red jar? You'd be trapped between the door and the boss, without enough magic to cast reflect to fight the boss, or fairy to go back.
I can't find the original comment or whatever but people dislike this game for 2 reasons -
1. It's a departure from the first game
2. They are bad at it.
This game does nothing anymore unfair than any Dark Souls game including runs back from the start to wherever you need to get to, it takes 5-10 minutes at most, less so with the map opened up.
Unfair games are Ghosts N' Goblins and The Silver Surfer. This ain't.
It's probably the most underappreciated and misunderstood game in the entire NES library, easily the entire Zelda franchise.

I enjoyed your gameplay :) This was one of my favorite games growing up because as frustrating as it was, I enjoyed a game not holding my hand; I appreciated the challenge and having to become more patient through the frustration...not going to admit how many controllers I broke or cracked tv screens though...just sayin =^.^=
I'm glad to hear that other gamers like and respect this game just as i do. Definitively one of the best game on the system. There so many years of practice behind my gameplay, i been playing video game since 1988, got my first nes the same year. If you want a easier version of the game, play the famicom version on the system or emulator. The biggest difference is, basically you can select what you upgrade, sword, magic and life. I know it doesn't seem like much, but trust me, that element make the game a lot easier since you can always select the sword upgrade which i recommend to level-out to the maximum levels first (with one or two life upgrades on the side too). The soundtrack, game-control, innovative ideas, battle system etc make this a masterpiece of a game. I also like to hear nostalgic story about broken controllers, tv or stuff like that. @sunstricken I know just what you mean about the frustration level sometimes! I remember the first time I defeated the Thunderbird in the last palace and walked into the next room I saw the Triforce there so I paused the game and called my best friend who had given me the game because he couldn't figure it out. He lived across the street. I said "Come over so I can prove it!" As soon as he came over I unpaused it and Dark Link popped out and stabbed me to death and Ganon was laughing! My friend looked at me grinning and said "Dumbass" lol I won't repeat what I said. Needless to say I had to buy a new controller! 😂

Great play through! This game is ultimately too hard for me so it was very enjoyable to watch someone who is good at it destroy all of those frustrating baddies. Granted I was very young playing this game, I’m not even sure if I knew to upgrade stats or how to use to spells.

Your'e welcome. There is so many years of practice behind my gameplay. I been playing video game since 1988, i was 5 years old back at that time. I remember that there was this middle-age women babysitting me and she had three kids, all boys. They had a few nes games, all good titles. Punch-out, double dragon, duckhunt, tetris, zelda and of course, zelda II which was at the time, the newest game release. These three brothers were all much older than i was, the oldest son was around 18 and the youngest was like 13. There was around 15 other kids that the women was also babysitting including my older brother. They let us kids played with there nes, but not very often. Honestly, these 3 brothers were kinda cheap with us kids. Most of the time, we could only watch them played but eh, afterall, they had the right to do this since the nes system belong to them. That were it all began. My passion for the system and video games in general. Like i said in the description, zelda ll had the most the most intimidating soundtrack of all the games i played in the 80s. Even more intimidating for a 5 years old me. Memories that will live on forever in my heart. Of all the elements from our childhood, the one i am missing the most is the innocence. Innocence can produce such beauty, but unfortunately, it never last...

Is there a combat with Ganon or not? The combat with his shadow is a great idea but I tought that there would be a thing with Ganon, because we see him when we have game over. What is the name of the monster Link defeated?
Ganon is in the game over because the monsters use Link’s blood to resurrect him :)

this game looks like it is crossed between Mario with the flying skull heads on the bridge were in the Mario game it is flying fish and Final Fantasy wen you are walking on the paths between town and dungeons but other wise good game

Glad to hear you prefer the second game over the first. There so many sheeps out there who just fallow what the avgn is saying so most of them will prefer the first game and just hate on the second which is a real shame because zelda 2 a masterpiece. As much i as love the nerd, he spread so many lies about good game like this one but i also understand that is making a dark humour show and need to do that for the laughs. I will always defend this game.
I'm pretty sure he has a love-hate-relationship with the game, probably because this game "molested him" for years because of the insane difficulty but he also know that this game is a great one.

I don’t understand this! The wizard that gives the Reflect spell keeps telling me to come back when I’m ready but yet my life is at level 6, my magic is level 6, and my attack is at 5! I beat this game as a kid but I don’t remember this happening! Can someone tell me what this is?
It bases on how many magic bottles you have collected, not what level your magic is. If you only have 4, I don't think the Wizard will give you the Reflect.

It's a small "Myu" and it jumps in the hole by himself.
The Myu falls off the cliff. If you look closely, you can see the Myu's feet and see it walking off the cliff.

This has to be a tas. No way he could do all this stuff. He doesn’t even know the cheese way to beat iron knuckles. That alone tells me he doesn’t have the tools to beat this without dying. Subtle things like missing a downward thrust on the boss of palace 3 (which is simple to do) tells me that he is not doing a clean run. Especially getting through death mountain without dying. That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far.
